I didn't get to read the full book of The Return of the King but I've heard of him or it. I know quite a lot about The Return of the King like what happens to Frodo after Shelob attcks him but I'm not embarressed to say that I didn't read the entire third book.

Perhaps you should read the entire book. It really helps matters!
The King of the Dead is the leader of the Army of the Dead, who "live" in the Paths of the Dead (no kidding!). The Dead were originally Men (of a lower "level" than the Numenoreans) who had pledged allegiance to Isildur, son of Elendil, when the latter first came to Middle-earth. When the recruitment for the Last Alliance started however, the later-named Dead Men refused to help, since they had worshipped Sauron earlier (don't ask why, some people are just.... strange). Isildur then cursed them to be undead until they pledged their allegiance to his heir, in the distant future, to fight against the same evil. (The Heir was Aragorn, and the evil was Sauron risen again).

yes as Finwe said hes the Leader of the army of the Dead, and whom Aragorn must convince to help them in the battle and make good their oath so they can be fulfilled (If I remember correctly...)
but a word to the wise: you really might want to read the entire book for yourself, you cant always trust what people tell you, and you really cant get the whole effect of the story if you just hear bits and pieces from other people... |
