How many times did the army of the Eldar come within sight of the gates of Angband?

LadyLúthien
08-25-2005, 02:50 PM
I'll take a guess and say one.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-25-2005, 06:54 PM
It's more than one.

Alcarillo
08-25-2005, 06:59 PM
Four times, perhaps? (including the War of Wrath)

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-25-2005, 08:08 PM
Please enumerate them.

(Thread owner's prerogative. ;) )

Alcarillo
08-25-2005, 08:49 PM
And whoops! I was counting times they came into sight of Thangorodrim.

They came within sight of the gates of Angband in the Dagor Aglareb, the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and the War of Wrath. The Dagor Aglareb actually says within sight of the gates of Angband, in the Nirnaeth elves got to Angaband's steps, so I assume it was within sight of the gates, and in the War of Wrath I'm also assuming some Vanyar and Noldor got within sight. Angband was destroyed in that battle, after all.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-25-2005, 09:12 PM
You need one more, one that happened earlier.

They were close to the gate then, surely they must see it. ;)

Eonwe
08-31-2005, 07:56 PM
ehem

Eonwe
09-03-2005, 02:36 PM

mormegil
09-03-2005, 02:38 PM
That would be Galadriel to Melian

Eonwe
09-03-2005, 04:17 PM
Galadriel it was not.

Gil-Galad
09-03-2005, 11:42 PM
Maedhros?

Eonwe
09-04-2005, 05:46 AM
Neither was it Maedhros. This is the first elf to openly speak of the kinslaying.

LadyLúthien
09-04-2005, 11:23 AM
Was is Fëanor?

The Perky Ent
09-04-2005, 12:18 PM

The Perky Ent
09-05-2005, 11:08 AM
Finarfin?

Gil-Galad
09-05-2005, 03:53 PM
Finrod?

Eonwe
09-05-2005, 06:34 PM
it says that wispered tales went abrode about the kinslaying, but Thingol is the first to actually mention it; and since he is speaking to finrod, i'll give it you you gil-galad. carry on:)

Gil-Galad
09-05-2005, 06:56 PM

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-05-2005, 09:13 PM
So, who killed a son of Mîm?

The Perky Ent
09-05-2005, 10:34 PM

Dimturiel
09-06-2005, 12:22 PM
Onodrim?

The Perky Ent
09-06-2005, 04:11 PM
Nope :D

Telchar
09-07-2005, 04:54 AM
Onod = An ent

(Enyd is plural, that is "ents". Onodrim is the name for the race ents... For comparison, A man, Men and Mankind)

The Perky Ent
09-07-2005, 06:05 AM
:D exactly! Your go Telchar!

Telchar
09-07-2005, 06:37 AM
Name ALL those who died directly or indirectly as a result of Turins quest to slay Glaurung.

Dimcollowen
09-07-2005, 10:18 AM
ummm....wow.....i really don't know.... :(

Dimturiel
09-07-2005, 11:06 AM

Telchar
09-07-2005, 02:20 PM

Dimturiel
09-08-2005, 05:29 AM
Who was the one that sugessted that Felagund should give his crown to a steward when he left with Beren?

Telchar
09-08-2005, 06:57 AM
Maybe Gelmir? Maybe someone related to him?

Dimturiel
09-08-2005, 11:01 AM
Nope, not Gelmir and, as far as I know, the peson I want is not related to him.

Hiriel
09-08-2005, 02:39 PM
I think that was an elf called Edrahil.

Dimturiel

Yep, that's the one!

Hiriel
09-09-2005, 10:43 AM
Cool.

Who of Brethil made the song that proclaimed the Stone of the Hapless would never be thrown down or taken by Morgoth, as actually did happen?

NightKnight

It was indeed. Your turn, Dimturiel.

Dimturiel
09-13-2005, 09:33 AM
What was the name that Aredhel gave to her son and what does it mean? A bit easy, I know but I cannot think of anything else at the moment.

Telchar
09-13-2005, 09:42 AM
She called him Lómion which is 'Child of Twilight'. The name is Noldorin, and was therefore keept secret from the childs father.

Dimturiel
09-13-2005, 09:53 AM
That was fast! Very good, the thread is yours.

Telchar
09-14-2005, 03:05 AM
Barahir and his stout men tarried around a lake. What was special about that lake and what was it's name?

The Perky Ent
09-14-2005, 12:07 PM
I think it was called Tarn Aeluin, and Melain hallowed it

Telchar
09-14-2005, 02:27 PM
Precisely - you're up... :)

Eonwe
09-21-2005, 06:16 AM

(Perks last posted here 9-15, so it's 10 days, right?)

Name all kills of Anglachel/Gurthang in Túrin's hands (in chronological order).

Well, not all, you don't have to include the Orcs. Just those with names, perhaps.

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-29-2005, 08:35 PM
Anyone?

Dimturiel
09-30-2005, 11:34 AM
All the kills of Gurthang in Turin's hands: Brodda(and other Easterlings from his hall), Glaurung, Brandir and Turin himself. I do hope I have not forgotten anyone.

mormegil
09-30-2005, 11:45 AM
You forgot Beleg, though I think you deserve the thread if we are correct

Dimturiel
09-30-2005, 12:13 PM
You forgot Beleg Now would be the perfect moment to dig a very deep whole in the ground and spend the rest of my life there :o. Indeed, I left out Beleg .

Nilpaurion Felagund
10-02-2005, 07:07 AM
You both got it.

But since morm said Dimturiel could have it, the thread is hers.

Take the floor. :)

Dimturiel
10-02-2005, 11:22 AM

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-09-2005, 11:46 AM
thats right, your turn.

I would allso have accepted it if Telchar had been added as he made the thing. I would allso have accepted if Hurin had been left out as he never used it. (He must have possesed it as it was an heirloom of the House of Hador)

Beleg
12-09-2005, 12:22 PM
My first one.

Name of the refuge of Turin and Beleg (with Mîm)

Telchar
12-11-2005, 07:00 AM
Are you thinking of Bar-en-Nibin-noeg?
That would be wrong anyway.

Beleg
12-11-2005, 11:46 AM
It is not. Do you need a hint?

Dimturiel
12-11-2005, 12:09 PM
Is it Dor-Cuarthol, Land of Bow and Helm?

Beleg
12-11-2005, 12:13 PM
Sorry no, but I believe you're quite close. It is a name given by Turin and his folks to this place.

Dimturiel
12-11-2005, 12:26 PM
Then it has to be Echad i Sedryn, Camp of the Faithful.

Beleg
12-12-2005, 04:12 AM
It is indeed.

Dimturiel
12-12-2005, 11:32 AM

Rune Son of Bjarne
01-31-2006, 06:58 AM
It was Gelmir and Arminas of Angrods people, but they had lived with Cirdan since Dagor Bragollach.

Beleg
01-31-2006, 12:12 PM
It is. Your turn I guess..

Rune Son of Bjarne

Beleg
01-31-2006, 02:52 PM
Is it not the Dragon's Helm of Dor-lomin which belonged to Maedhros?

(again, as I remember this question :) )

Rune Son of Bjarne
01-31-2006, 03:04 PM
Yes it was the Dragon Helm, but who made it ?

Gil-Galad
01-31-2006, 05:54 PM
Felagund i beleive... oh Telchar... or the Petty Dwarves

Rune Son of Bjarne
01-31-2006, 06:52 PM

Anyway Telchar is the right answer, your turn.

Gil-Galad
01-31-2006, 11:07 PM

473?

Nilpaurion Felagund
04-26-2006, 06:39 AM
Your turn. :smokin:

Tuor of Gondolin
04-27-2006, 06:03 AM
In what ways, and by whom, was
the Annon-in-Gelydh important
in the history of Beleriand?

Valier
04-27-2006, 03:09 PM
uuummm Tuor found it on his way to Nevrast. It is called the gate of the Noldor. Turgon's people built it when they dwelt there. It led Tuor to the dark tunnel, where his trail was unmarked.:)

I'm not sure if that was what you were looking for...if not, please be a bit more specific.;)

Tuor in Gondolin
04-28-2006, 09:25 AM
Almost there. Any specific elves using it
in Tuor's time? And why did they use it?

Valier
04-28-2006, 11:20 AM
was it Gwindor? He was bringing Tuor there?

Tuor in Gondolin
04-29-2006, 08:44 AM
Nope. It involves two elves on a seperate mission of their
own who providentially meet and help Tuor. But what's
their mission and who are they?

Nilpaurion Felagund
05-01-2006, 08:29 PM
They were Gelmir and Arminas, formerly of the house of Finarfin, then stayed with Cirdan at Balar after the destruction of the domain of Angrod and Aegnor. They passed through the gate to bring a message to Nargothrond from Ulmo.

Tuor of Gondolin
05-02-2006, 05:41 AM
Correct. of course, it may be up to
the vala to decide who's turn it is,

Nilpaurion Felagund or Valier .

Nilpaurion Felagund

Why thank you very much Nilp! Ok Where did Turin Turambar die and what was written on his grave stone?

Thinlómien
05-18-2006, 07:39 AM
He died near Cabed-en-Aras and in his grave was carved "Túrin Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga".

Valier
05-18-2006, 11:15 AM
Exactly correct Thinlomien! Take it away....:)

Thinlómien
05-24-2006, 11:00 AM
I know I'm boring, but

Who was Eilinel?

Valier
05-24-2006, 11:07 AM
I know this one! She was the wife of Gorlim the unhappy. He would do whatever Sauron wanted to free his wife from thralldom, but alas she was already dead.

Thinlómien
05-24-2006, 02:28 PM
Correct, Valier!

Valier
05-24-2006, 03:07 PM
Thanks Lommy!!!:D :)

what is the name of Turgon's sister and what was she called?

Gil-Galad
05-24-2006, 05:33 PM
Turgon of Gondolin i persume, well her name was Aredhel which means Noble Elf... though she is also called the White Lady

Valier
05-24-2006, 05:57 PM
Correct Gil-Galad!!! Your turn....:D

Gil-Galad
05-24-2006, 06:19 PM
Other one of the Septenary

hope its good...

Valier
05-25-2006, 11:33 AM
Ummm I'm not so sure as to what you want.....Septenary is a base 7 numeral system, so are you looking for another system?

Edit:Perhaps...The lamed and the hanged man?

05-25-2006, 06:21 PM

06-19-2006, 10:41 PM
MAJOR HINT: think of the number seven

Valier
06-20-2006, 12:10 PM
Ok so would it be the dwarves who got the seven rings....How bout Durin the deathless? Am I even on the right path?

Gil-Galad
06-20-2006, 01:44 PM
not really no... what else involves seven?

also Seven rings of the dwarves would be second age

Valier
07-11-2006, 11:40 AM
Ok Gil......help us out:D

Gil-Galad
07-12-2006, 07:07 AM
*sigh* i can't say no to that Epileptic/seizure-induced Kitty of yours...

well again think seven, if i say its a person then that will give a big hint...

Macalaure
07-12-2006, 07:35 AM
Seven Gates of Gondolin?
Seven Rivers of Ossiriand?

Denethor, maybe?

Gil-Galad
07-13-2006, 06:55 AM
but why? and no those all wrong... and i don't see how the seven gates and seven rivers are a person...

Rune Son of Bjarne
07-13-2006, 08:52 AM
I know you said they were wrong, but if it was the seven gates of Gondolin then Elemmakil would be a guess.

Gil-Galad
07-13-2006, 01:25 PM
its funny cause your all missing the obvious seven

Rune Son of Bjarne
07-13-2006, 01:33 PM
then there is the seven Palantíri. . . but I got no idea what the answer would be

Gil-Galad
07-13-2006, 01:45 PM
Its a person... so there would be no use of guessing non-living things.

Valier
07-13-2006, 01:49 PM
How bout Oin?

Gil-Galad
07-13-2006, 01:54 PM
