But Yavanna228 and Turambar can take it to a tie-break if either of them answer both of the remaining questions correctly.
In any event, it has been the practice in the past to ask all 10 questions even when a clear winner has emerged before the end (the final ones being for honour alone smilies/wink.gif ).
Which is to say I think that you should continue. smilies/smile.gif

Actually, Telchar, you're right to question that question. smilies/smile.gif After I answered it, alq wasn't sure whether or not to give me credit. Apparently alq chose to do so. But I do understand what you mean, and since there was somewhat of a conflict between the different passages that we used to arrive at the conclusion of the answers, I told alq to decide if she wanted to give me credit or not. So, if she decides to revoke that, it's perfectly fine. Thanks for keeping a tight reign on us, Telchar. smilies/smile.gif

03-16-2004, 04:50 PM
righti-o! your turn NightKnight!
NightKnight
03-17-2004, 12:39 AM
Yay!
So, the new topic is edain.
First question: Which House came to Beleriand first?
Thorongil
03-17-2004, 04:47 AM
Hador's House?
Firefoot
03-17-2004, 05:48 AM
Bëor's House?
NightKnight
03-18-2004, 12:37 PM
Nope.
Firefoot
03-18-2004, 03:01 PM
Marach's house?
Phervasaion
03-18-2004, 03:02 PM
Are sure it was not the house of Beor? I dont think it was anyone else.
NightKnight
03-19-2004, 09:06 AM
Oops, I must have missed Firefoot's post. Sorry about that. :(
Firefoot - 1
Second question: Who led the Third House into Beleriand?
Miriel
03-19-2004, 12:07 PM
Marach?
NightKnight
03-19-2004, 12:15 PM
Correct. :)
Firefoot - 1
Miriel - 1
Third question: Who was the grandfather of both Rian and Morwen?
Miriel
03-19-2004, 12:18 PM
Bregolas.
NightKnight
03-19-2004, 12:25 PM
Right again. ;)
Firefoot - 1
Miriel - 2
Fourth question: What was the name of Brodda's wife?
Miriel
03-19-2004, 12:31 PM
Oooh, this is fun. ;)
Aerin.
Okay, I feel kinda guilty taking advantage of the fact we're both connected, so, I'll shut up awhile and let others answer. ;)
NightKnight
03-19-2004, 12:44 PM
Yeah, it's a bit unfair. But at least you got yourself a nice big lead. ;)
Firefoot - 1
Miriel - 3
Fifth question: Who was the leader of those who went back over the Blue Mountains?
Lindolirian
03-19-2004, 01:19 PM
Shoot, Miriel could eat us up with her lead, but I'll have fun giving her a run for her money :D
Oi... Just a guess, I think it was Bereg?
NightKnight
03-19-2004, 01:24 PM
Bereg it was.
Firefoot - 1
Miriel - 3
Lindolirian - 1
Sixth question: Where did the Haladin live when they first came over the mountains, and why did they move?
Lindolirian
03-19-2004, 01:30 PM
First they lived in Thargelion, but they were too proud to live sheltered by the Elves in a land that was given to them out of charity. Something of the sorts...
NightKnight
03-19-2004, 01:32 PM
The first part is right, and the second is close. Could you explain it a little bit more?
Thorongil
03-20-2004, 05:00 AM
Didn't they go to Brethil after that?
NightKnight
03-20-2004, 05:32 AM
They did, but that's not the question. ;)
Firefoot
03-20-2004, 06:24 AM
While they were living in Thargelion there was an orc raid and when her father and brother died Haleth took control and when they were victorious Caranthir honored them and asked them to move farther north to have the friendship and protection of the Elves but Haleth and her people were too proud to be ruled so they went further west where other men had gone.
I think that should answer the question. :)
NightKnight
03-20-2004, 07:15 AM
Very good. :)
Firefoot - 2
Miriel - 3
Lindolirian - 1
Seventh question: How old was Bëor when he died?

Firefoot
03-20-2004, 07:34 AM
He was slain in the Dagor Bragollach at Eithel Sirion. His nickname meant "Goldenhead."
NightKnight
03-20-2004, 07:36 AM
Right-o...
Firefoot - 3
Miriel - 4
Lindolirian - 1
This is turning out to be a duel. ;)
Ninth question: Where did Bëor's people dwell (after Estolad)?
Miriel
03-20-2004, 07:40 AM
Thanks, Firefoot. I was trying hard to refrain from answering that one, but my strength of will was slowly beginning to falter. ;)
Anyway, I've decided I'm allowed to go for another one now...
So, is this Dorthonion?
Edit: Actually, you may be looking for Ladros...? When Boromir was appointed Lord of Ladros, those who had moved north gathered there ... so, yeah, Dorthonion or Ladros.
NightKnight
03-20-2004, 08:42 AM
Ladros was what I was looking for.
Firefoot - 3
Miriel - 5
Lindolirian - 1
Well, we have a winner: Miriel. :) But I will ask the last question anyway.
Tenth and last question: Who were Beren's parents?
Miriel
03-20-2004, 09:01 AM
Woohoo!! :D
And, Barahir and Emeldir. ;)
Should I start a new thread, as this is at 11 pages?
NightKnight
03-20-2004, 09:30 AM
Correct again, and you win at 6 points. :)
That's probably a good idea. :)
The Saucepan Man
03-21-2004, 05:48 PM
Yes, Miriel, I'd be grateful if you would open a new thread. Please could you include some brief guidance on how the game works with your first post.
Thanks. :)
This thread is closed.

A continuation of The Topic Game, which was closed due to length.

Alatariel, Artanis, Nerwen
Firefoot
05-31-2004, 07:29 PM
I rather miss this game, and according to the Members List, Miriel hasn't been around for more than a month, so would it be okay if I started a new set of questions?
The Saucepan Man
05-31-2004, 08:02 PM
Go ahead Firefoot. :)
Lindolirian
05-31-2004, 08:21 PM
Yeah Firefoot, you had me on this one anyway. I think you and Miriel must live in a different time zone than I, because I would always find that you two posted while I was asleep
Firefoot
06-01-2004, 01:44 PM
Alrighty, then. The topic is Animals of Arda.
1. Name two horses that killed someone.
The Saucepan Man
06-01-2004, 05:36 PM

No
Lindolirian
06-01-2004, 09:11 PM

7. How large was Thorondor?
Lindolirian
06-02-2004, 02:52 PM
His wings were 30 fathoms and a fathom is six feet, so with a wing span of 180 feet, he was quite huge.
Firefoot
06-02-2004, 04:12 PM
Uh-huh.
Lindo - 4
SpM - 2
NK - 1
8. Name a horse that is not gray or white.
Lindolirian
06-02-2004, 05:46 PM

Firefoot
06-02-2004, 06:22 PM
No, Arod is gray.
NightKnight
06-03-2004, 01:48 AM
Firefoot?
Firefoot
06-03-2004, 05:43 AM
No, Firefoot is gray too.
Maybe I shouldn't have said 'name'... just which horse.
The Saucepan Man
06-03-2004, 10:07 AM
Ah well, in that case I shall say the Witch King of Angmar's horse, which is black (along with the eight ridden by the other Nazgul).
But that's probably not the answer that you had in mind ... :( ;)
Firefoot
06-03-2004, 04:05 PM

Firefoot
06-04-2004, 10:43 AM
Perfect.
And with 5 points, Lindolirian is the winner! Your turn.
Lindolirian

NK-1
2. Who made the Elessar?
Firefoot
06-04-2004, 03:55 PM

Fingolfin II
06-07-2004, 01:26 AM
The Dwarves of the Blue Mountains treasured the Nauglamir and/or the Silmaril set in it above gold, and Thorin treasured the Arkenstone above a mountain of gold? Not sure about the first one though.
Lindolirian
06-07-2004, 12:13 PM
I'm not too sure about the first one either. Try again. :)
It is close though...
Gil-Galad
06-07-2004, 03:27 PM
the Silmaril which was on a "mountain" of gold in the treasury of doriath, and that arkenstone
Lindolirian
06-07-2004, 04:04 PM
No, you're thinking too cryptically. It's put rather plainly that this certain dwarf lord prized it above a mountain of wealth.
BTW, the Arkenstone is correct...
Tulkas the Mighty
06-07-2004, 11:55 PM
Could it be Gimli and Aglarond?
NightKnight
06-08-2004, 12:52 AM
Mîm and his son, Khim?
Lindolirian
06-08-2004, 08:23 AM
No, and no. Think richer dwarves.
HINT: This thing was given to the dwarf lord by Cirdan...;)
Firefoot
06-11-2004, 12:02 PM
Nimphelos was prized by the chieftain of the Dwarves of Belegost.
(And the Arkenstone...)

06-13-2004, 09:50 AM
Correct!
Firefoot- 3
NK- 1
5. What river had a "precious" riverbed?
Firefoot
06-13-2004, 11:24 AM

Lindolirian
06-13-2004, 05:37 PM
Right on!
Firefoot- 4
NK- 1
6. What significance did a necklace of dragon teeth hold for the son of Frumgar?
NightKnight
06-13-2004, 05:52 PM
It was made from the teeth of the dragon Scatha that he (Fram) slew.

Very good! This game was about to become a little one sided...
Firefoot- 4

Lindolirian

Firefoot- 4
NK- 3
8. What assured Aragorn that that it was safe to pass the Hoarwell, and who left this token?
Firefoot
06-13-2004, 06:06 PM
