View Full Version : WWJ VI: Return to Midsomer Mawlin - Kill me again

Wow. It almost worked.
I knew I was a lost cause and we accepted Kuru as martyr before we even began. Everything left to keeping Kitanna ambiguous, and it almost worked... Watching y'all go after Firefoot made me smile, that being my whole point and all. Sorry 'bout that Firefoot, but I really did need a scapegoat. :)
Well we all didn't kind of "go after Firefoot"..., quite a few of us, in the end, did. And Kitanna's "change of tactics" was probably too visible... But I admit, that without Boro's dreams we would have had really bad times with you wolf-people! (f.ex. I believed your innocence to the last moment...)
But if was great fun, and I kind of pity it ended. And believe it or not, I also was very happy about the first night gamble. That really made gaming feel like something really great and heart pumping... I don't basicaly like being suspected by everyone around me, but it sure makes gaming interesting! :D (and gives you peace at nights, when you can't defend yourself against the wolves)

Wowee, great job, all!
I can't believe how quickly all the werewolves went down. Great work to the three who had Kitanna figured out--she escaped my notice!
And Diamond, just so as you don't swear werewolf off entirely--the first game is usually always the hardest on you as a beginner. You posted, angry that some people had thought you stupid or whatever, so I sincerely hope you didn't get that impression from me, because you most certainly are not!
BTW, guys, who *am* I? I took a look at the picture, but who is the guy? *is confused*
I am shocked. This is the first time the villagers have won so quickly...and the first time I have ever been alive at the end of the game (Wolves have found it useful to keep me around until the final day then hoodwink me into my death, but I've never actually survived the end of a game). So cheers, all! :)

Wow!! Talk about a first in WW history. I have to admit, though, that's not what I thought at first when I came home to find a couple of reps from the game - I thought more like "Idiots, they lynched me." I never even guessed that the game would be over...
When I voted this morning I really was afraid that Diamond was an innocent... that seems to be what usually happens when I start going at it with someone. Oh well.
Fea - no hard feelings about being your scapegoat... I'm used to it by now. :D In fact, I should just assume any more that if someone defends me off the bat that they're a wolf.

Great suicide bluff by Diamond, it didn't work when I tried it.
Thanks, Garin. This, incidentally, was my inspiration:
Mormegil (Cursed Villager) - Cut off his own head rather than having the villagers handle his axe on Day 6
When reading over the grimoire I thought, "That's the way to do it, never let them take you alive!!" Though I really wouldn't describe my action as a bluff. I was just so sure that I was going to die (3 votes and counting at the time) and I wanted the satisfaction of doing it myself. I was aware that there was a chance people would take my post at face value and retract their votes for me, so I did it about an hour and a half before the deadline, rather than just before, but to be honest I thought there was the slimmest, slimmest chance of that happening. Mainly, I just wanted to see "Commited suicide in exasperation" beside my name in the Grimoire. :p But of course I didn't want to die if I didn't have to, so seeing that I could kill Kitanna instead made me jump for it.
And Diamond, just so as you don't swear werewolf off entirely--the first game is usually always the hardest on you as a beginner. You posted, angry that some people had thought you stupid or whatever, so I sincerely hope you didn't get that impression from me, because you most certainly are not!
I'm feeling a lot better now that the result to all that was so unexpectedly positive, heh heh. Unfortunately I was dead wrong about Firefoot, so I'm not so sure you should be assuring me I'm not stupid after all. :p
However, besides the Fear and Loathing in Midsomer Mawlin episode of yesterDay, the game was a blast.
Next time I want to be a seer or a wolf, though, being in the dark can be a real pain.

Oh! I almost forgot. The Kitanna death scene had me trying really, really hard not to laugh (because I was at work). Great job, Mith. :D That was even better than getting a death scene myself. The mental picture of Veronica Mars suffocating House with a cane is darn funny.
And Jenny... I didn't realize you were Velma, I thought you were Daphne. Velma and Veronica. Ha!

Wow.
Definitely unexpected.
Wonderful game, everyone! And if you want to keep (whatever's left of) your sanity, don't try hopping over to the "other side"...things are more confusing there. :D

Whoa...cool. A perfect game. Awesome job, guys.
And great job modding to Mith, of course. :D

Gil was Robin this time...or maybe Batman.. I had intended to have all new chars but then I let Nogrod be Clouseau until I changed him to Poirot...... and I couldn't decide whether to let Robin be the heir to the original Gil Batman of MM1 or to continue the reincarnation conceit..whatever.... it all ended too quickly for much character development - which in a way is a pity becasue there was a lot of stuff I was saving that I never needed.
Zali - you were Inspector Tom Barnaby of the inspirational ITV series "The Midsomer Murders" - which if you ever get a chance to see it features Orlando Bloom getting run through with a pitchfork in pre Legolas days in an early episode.
The actor was also "Bergerac" (another missed joke) but that is going back a bit.
Has everyone else been identified?
Well although I had to write two off the cuff death scenes (Diamond was going to be martyred a la Joan of Arc) I think this proves the excitement value of retractable votes and that you don't need a lot of extra characters to make a good game - that isn't a criticism of the games that do have them, I loved being a guardian and liked the wild card aspect of the mytho, but I think this makes it more of a challenge for the ordos.
Despite Boromir's strike rate it could have still gone the other way as the original WW game shows. Also the ill-starred Kitanna was just as successful a Seer as Boromir as far as dreams go in MM1 but was far less successful at being believed.
I hope that you don't feel shortchanged but this turned out to be an espresso game rather than a latte......

Second off – tough luck wolves, having two people like Fea & Khuru can hurt because you both are vets that the seer would want to find out about ASAP.
-Estel-
I would say that given the impressive line up it would have been hard to draw three wolves without including two people who would be priorities for a seer.... and some who might not have been priorities at the beginning will now be I am sure. Actually I think it was the overall strength of the group that made the game.

Mith,
Are you going to do the awards? I really enjoyed that in MM1 and would like to see it reprised, albeit this was a short game.

Night 1 Boromir88 as youall know now dreamt of Fea. Since the game started on March 15 the title was one of the opportunistic references used. The chamomile tea bit was a small homage to the Squatter of Amon Rudh refering to his comments about a certain type of novel in a recent "Which Downer am I " post. here (http://69.51.5.41/showpost.php?p=449409&postcount=473) . The rest is picking up on elements from the original MM game.
The secong part was just clues to the player's identities - the UK ones unfortunately being a bit obscure for the predominantly North American group of players. A witless silence was a nod to the French and Saunders parody of "Silent Witness" (cf Oddwen)
Day One
Boromir and Mormegil fight it out for the least in character player.
Jenny stays in character.
The paranoid moderator who vetoed anagrams thinks everyone is deliberately winding her up.
Fea who got away with some outrageous play as a wolf in MM1 pushes her luck.
So...
The Icarus Award goes to Feanor of the Peredhil
And for the seeming random, casual vote that turned out to be a catalyst for the hat-trick -
"The Poisoned Chalice" award goes to Sleepy Ranger
A "random" vote due to time constraints is a possible seer tactic so this, I guess cost Sleepy his life that night and protected the Seer.
when I checked in a lunchtime, it looked like Nogrod or maybe gil was for the chop. Slightly sad that Nogrod was seemingly being lynched for not being a native speaker (though it took me a while to realise that!!! - I too thought he was just extremely fierce in Kitanna's game!!!).
I wonder what would have happened if Fea had been around... but anyway Fea talked herself from the gallows and caused "Ad Hoc " lynching No1 with apologies to Messrs Pratchett and Adams.
So Nogrod gets the Hobbyhorse award for championing so effectively retractable votes. He doesn't get the Maths prize.
On the subject of things equine, Gil-galad gets the Shergar Award - now Gil-galad can't be here tonight to accept the award ... ;)
Day 2
Rather obvious references to Sleepy's character in his death.
Boromir gets less than subtle and earns himself The Phantom Award for modesty
Mormegil gets the Sidney Carton award for attempted self sacrifice though his attempt was foiled... by Boromir
. He gets a Treebeard Medal for condemning hastiness
to be continued

Kuruharan gets the "With friends like these " award (held by Firefoot since WW1).
Kitanna receives the Oliver Hardy trophy ("That's another fine mess, you've got me into, Mithalwen").

Still holding that grudge eh? The funny thing about that is I feel that I was a failure and I pressed you far too much and exposed myself. I feel like I was key in us loosing our first game.

I ddi plan further awards / comments but tiem has been short due to RL hassles and I guess you have all moved on now!!! I did want to mention Nogrod whose presence certainly adds excitement and debate to a game. I look forward to him playing a wolf. Jenny gave me another "Groundhog Day" moment when she seemed that she might attach herself to a wolf with her defence of Fea on Day 1 but she turned the tables on day 3. Her insticts are sharpening!! Diamond has the best dramatic timing of anyone I have ever met... if I hadn't "refreshed" before closing voting......
Oddwen, Zali and Firefoot - well all were stymied by time or timezone constraints to some extent but they are people it is great to have in a game. Their analytical approach would have come in to it's own in a longer game. Firefoot has such good instincts for this game and stays focused. Zali is a bit unlucky with her votes (but then so have I lately!). Thank you all for playing. It was truly an honour.

I would go for Diamond's award - and call for the "first feeble theory to really hit (after quite a many trials in quite a many games)" -award for myself...

Oh if you insist.. I will have a think...
OK Diamond gets the "Gwaihir Award" for arriving in the nick of time.
Jenny gets the "If I were a horse, there would be a Stewards' Enquiry" Award for her dramatic change of form ;)
I can't think of appropriate awards but I am grateful to Zali and Oddwen for playing and making such efforts to contribute well despite their time pressures. It is appreciated. Once again I rue that Firefoots timetable is incompatible with mine. This was a particular factor in a game with retractable votes. It seems unbelievable that players of this calibre were slightly sidelined due to the shortness of the game. I was a very fortunate moderator to have such a great group of players especially in the face of competition from Nilp's large and innovative game.

Fortunate, maybe, but a good one as well! I really enjoyed this one, and must agree with your kind of vexation: even though it was great to get all the three wolves in the first three days, it was kind of sad it ended so soon...
