The way I see it Peter Jackson made my favourite book into a spectacular and thought provoking movie, the greatest movie of all time in my view, he worked for many years and sacrificed much but eventually the movies got made.
Unfortunately some were not satisfied were they? Where was Bombadil? Why did Faramir not act as he did in the book? Why did Frodo enter Shelob's Lair alone? Now, I do not wish to disregard these concerns but many of said concerns have been stated in a snide and holier-than-thou manner which I can not accept.
Wasn't it enough that the movies were made? That the cast and crew spent so much time and effort trying to please us?
Does that mean nothing?
And so, when I think of the movies I always think of the word "ingrattitude".
Again, I'm not naming names and I trust you all to draw your own conclusions.

You might be interested in this old thread, which I started shortly after watching TTT because I found myself rather taken aback by what I considered to be some rather extreme reactions to the films:

It's rather hard going at first, I am afraid, because of the changes in the site's formatting since it was first started, but it's worth a look. While "anger" is perhaps an overstatement of what many people felt, many certainly felt disappointment and dismay at the films and they provide insightful explanations in that thread of why they felt like this.

For many, I think, the the character alterations and simplification that were necessary (in my view) to bring these films to a mass audience in some way mar something (the book or particular aspects of it) that they hold dear. And this, I think is understandable, given how special the book is to most here. There is also regret at "what could have been".

For myself, while I share some of the concerns expressed about the films and do find myself getting irritated by internal inconsistencies and continuity issues, I still think that as films they are exceptional examples of their genre. And while the book remains very dear to me, I do not feel the same disappointment and dismay as many others because I hold the films as separate from the book. The characters and the events portrayed are slightly different and so, in my view, do not "change" or "mar" or affect in any way the story that Tolkien wrote or my feelings about it. The films provide an approximation, not a reproduction, of the story told by Tolkien, and I am able to enjoy them as such.

Oh how silly of us! Here we thought New Line and Paramount and PJ et al were just making a commercial film to earn some income and make a profit but really they were simply thinking of us and our tastes and values all along and we just couldn't see that. How positively unfair of us to have critical tastes that they didn't address.

I didn't wanna watch these movies untill few days ago because all my friend like them very much and I was sooo sick hearing them talking about these movies all the time so few days ago I decided to watch them all one by one. Its hard to say but I was wrong because I didn't want to watch them. I have to admit this trilogy is real masterpiece. I would like to know is there more similar movies? Also I know World Of Warcraft game is similar to this movie but its only for online playing, so does someone know some similar game which has single player campaign? I mean I like this kind of games, but I don't like strategy genre so I can't play LOTR game or older versions of Warcraft. I would like some third person or first person game surounded with world similar to Tolkin's. If you know for such a game please post it here.
