Oh, and what a brilliant idea this would be: As a signal that Smaug is comming Gandalf makes Bilbo climb some high place and put fire to it! Haha... The real reason for Esgaroth's destruction...

Edit: There's a certain article that I found to be quite, erm, disagreeable. I don't want to tripple-post, so I'm editing it in:

http://www.asylum.co.uk/2011/08/25/pulp-debate-the-hobbit-movie-what-could-go-wrong/ - and that's the worst that can happen, according to them. Pffft!

This (http://the-hobbit-movie.com/) site has a casting list for the movie, and among those listed is "Alfrid - Ryan Gage".

I admit to not having paid that much attention to the movie's production recently, so maybe this is old news.

But who the Utumno is Alfrid? Beorn's elderly butler who keeps the Bearcave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Pennyworth)ready?

According to this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit_(2012_film)), Alfrid is "The Master of Laketown's 'conniving' servant".

So, it wasn't enough to invent one character, eh Mr. Jackson?

But don't you get it, Zil? It's Grima's father! :p:rolleyes:

You know, sad as it is, the parallel with Wormtongue did cross my mind.

I really don't get the reasoning here. Is the Master himself not conniving enough on his own?

They should have just named the character Anni-Frid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anni-Frid_Lyngstad), and had her be a female member of a traveling minstrel troupe. Now that's script engineering. :smokin:

Remember that it's PJ we're talking about. ;)

I don't get the reasoning either, but there's just so much to complain about in his "Tolkien" movies that I'm tired of complaining.:D

About this Alfrid, I see more PJ and friends mucking with TH:
Ryan Gage as Alfrid:[34] The Master of Laketown's "conniving" servant. Gage was originally cast to play Drogo Baggins, father of Frodo Baggins. According to Jackson, "Ryan is a great young actor who we originally cast in a small role, but we liked him so much, we promoted him to the much larger Alfrid part."[/QUOTE]

Not only invent a new character but make it a "much larger" part.

Well, like dwarf tossing in the LOTR movies, with PJ

The end of 2012, I believe. (Will it be the last thing we see before the world ends? Or, is it going to be so bad that the rage of all Tolkienites around the globe will make the Earth explode, thus ending the world? I see the War of Wrath repeating itself... :D)

The war of wrath What is this new devilry

It's from The Silmarillion, a book that's about the First Age. It says that in that war the fury of the fighters was so great that it clove the earth. In a few days half the continent drowned.

See more:

It was meant as a joke on my part, though not entirely. ;)

If PJ's Warrior Princess (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xena:_Warrior_Princess) Arwen didn't usher in the End, hopefully the carnage wrought by Itaril and Alfrid will be minimal.

What does Arwen have to do with it? Curious.

I simply said that if the horror that was Liv Tyler's Arwen couldn't cause the destruction of the world, maybe The Hobbit won't, either.
