Welcome to the Quiz Room, Aragorn10123. smilies/smile.gif Please read the Quiz Room (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000386) rules, if you haven't done so already.
It's always better to put everything that you want to say into one post, rather than making consecutive posts. Also, don't expect immediate replies as this is a forum, rather than a chat room.
I suggest that you follow the usual format with this game and simply ask a question of your choosing about the films. Whoever gets it right can then continue with their own question.
The Perky Ent
02-07-2004, 10:51 AM
Um...so...how does this work?
The Saucepan Man
02-14-2004, 09:34 PM
Not very well, seemingly.
Anyone want to ask a question, or shall I just close the thread?
The Perky Ent
02-14-2004, 10:27 PM
Well, seeing as how i hate to see a thread close, i'll start us off! Apparently, the way this is suppost to work is, someone picks a topic and Aragorn10123 askes you a question. that person has to answer the question from the categories.
Question #1: Evil characters - Tror was killed by this bad person
Sleepy Ranger
02-15-2004, 12:16 AM
Tror was killed by this bad person
Whats a Tror?
Eorl of Rohan
02-15-2004, 07:34 AM
I think he means Thor the Dwarf...
The Perky Ent
02-15-2004, 09:39 AM
yes i do mean Thror. Sorry! WEll...answer!
Amanaduial the archer
02-15-2004, 10:14 AM
Thror was killed by Azog.
The Perky Ent
02-15-2004, 11:37 AM
right! yor turn!
Amanaduial the archer
02-15-2004, 01:22 PM
Also, may I just add that that isn't a film question.
Ok, not too difficult a-question on Merry and Pippin: in one of the films, they sung a song about an Inn; which film was it in and which Inn were they singing about?
The Perky Ent
02-15-2004, 04:33 PM
Um...how about 3rd movie? Green Dragon?
Return of the King
The Green Dragon
Amanaduial the archer
02-16-2004, 02:09 PM
Yes indeed, your turn Kath :) Perky Ent, you needed to say what the film was called really.
OK I can't think of a good one so . . .
In one of the films Frodo uses a gift of light to protect himself.
Which film and what was the gift?
Thats easy though more cryptic than I thought it was going to be.
The Perky Ent
02-16-2004, 05:39 PM
Return of the King
The light of Elendil
Eorl of Rohan
02-16-2004, 11:52 PM
Certainly not! I have not yet heard that Elendil had any kind of light. It may be my ignorance...
Return of the King...
The light - Earendil's silmaril.
Well done Eorl of Rohan, your turn.
Hey Eorl of Rohan, are you planning on answering here?
Eorl of Rohan
02-20-2004, 04:26 AM
Oh. Unfortunately, I know nothing about LOTR movies...
How about
Aragorn son of Arathorn had eight other names. Which three was used in the movie?
Strider
Elessar
Estel (though only in the EE)
Eorl of Rohan
02-20-2004, 04:38 AM
Correct, continue
Okay
How long was the total journey - in months.
It does say in one of the films so I want the name too.
Gil-Galad
02-21-2004, 09:28 AM
just to add on the the previous question, Longshanks was also used in the movie
Come on guys its not that hard!
Even if you can't remeber it from the film it's in the book.
NightKnight
02-22-2004, 02:07 PM
12 months? The Return of the King?
Close but no cigar.
One half of your answer is right though.
NightKnight
02-22-2004, 02:18 PM
Hmm, then I'll say 13 months, RotK.
Sleepy Ranger
02-22-2004, 02:22 PM
14 months Rotk
And the winner is NightKnight.
Your turn.
NightKnight
02-22-2004, 02:30 PM
How many times larger was Saruman's army than Theoden's during the Battle of Helm's Deep?
7 times larger - possibly.
NightKnight
02-22-2004, 02:39 PM
Nope, it was more than that.
Apocalypse_ForceS
02-22-2004, 02:39 PM
um, was it ten times as big?
Sleepy Ranger
02-22-2004, 02:39 PM
33 times larger.
NightKnight
02-22-2004, 02:48 PM
Sleepy Ranger is correct. "300 against 10000." - Legolas
Arvedui III
02-26-2004, 11:45 PM
*Bump*
Sleepy?
Sleepy Ranger
02-27-2004, 02:30 AM
Sorry. From next time I'll pose a new one as soon as I answer. Heres the next one.
Which actor neary died while filming and how?
Evisse the Blue
02-27-2004, 04:56 AM
Orlando fell off a horse, and broke a rib. That the one?
Gil-Galad
02-27-2004, 08:02 AM
Boromir* refused to fly and climbed up the mountains, in full costume, to do the mountain shots, so i guess he could haev nearly died, Sean also cut his foot
*don't remember actors name
Sleepy Ranger
02-27-2004, 09:09 AM
Nope. None of them.
Arvedui III
02-27-2004, 11:56 AM
Gimli's scale double* nearly drowned when he and Orlando were shooting the Aragornath scenes, and the boat sank.
*Not good with names, don't remember his.
It could be Viggo Mortensen.
When he did the scene from The Two Towers where he floats down the river after falling off the cliff, he nearly drowned n one of the practices.
Smeagol11
02-27-2004, 01:57 PM
dis probably isn't it but viggo also broke a toe when he kicked the orc helmet in TTT
Evisse the Blue
02-27-2004, 02:10 PM
He also broke a tooth and then glued it back on but I too doubt this is it...:p ;)
Sleepy Ranger
02-29-2004, 09:49 AM
Kath has it. It was Viggo. Good thing he didn't die. If he did I wonder what excuse they'd have for him lookin' different. Yes I'm starnge.
Thorongil
02-29-2004, 10:23 AM
Was there even one of the actors that weren't in mortal danger?
Gil-Galad
02-29-2004, 08:23 PM
probaly some of the hobbits, Sam could have gotten infection i guess.. but slim
OK since we're on the subject of actors getting hurt the question is:
Other than hurting his foot, what else happenned to Sam while filming?
Arvedui III
03-02-2004, 09:06 PM
Herm...can't think of much. Andy Serkis ripped his wig off.
The Perky Ent
03-02-2004, 09:51 PM
Um...also can't think of anything. He was paranoid about landing helicopters?
rutslegolas
03-02-2004, 10:59 PM
i cant think of anything i think he could have tripped on emyn muil and broken his jaw or something :smokin:
Arvedui III
03-03-2004, 06:40 PM
Thanks. Herm...How long did it take to shoot Helm's Deep?
Mithisilien
03-03-2004, 08:43 PM
was it 6 weeks?
rutslegolas
03-04-2004, 07:52 AM
i think it was 30 days:smokin:
Wasn't it something like 4 weeks.
Eowyn Skywalker
03-04-2004, 04:50 PM
Wasn't it two months?
Ug, movie trivia is hard.
-Eowyn Skywalker
The Perky Ent
03-04-2004, 05:17 PM
Um...3 months?
Arvedui III
03-04-2004, 06:52 PM
So far as I know, it took 6 weeks to shoot Helm's Deep. Good job Mithisilien. Your go. :)
Mithisilien
03-04-2004, 07:08 PM
Heh, I'd love to borrow the question from LOTR Trivial Pursuit- "How many legs does Shelob have?", but I won't :D
What happened to Billy Boyd when shooting the fireworks scene in the tent in FOTR? (there are 2 things)
Eowyn Skywalker
03-04-2004, 07:58 PM
He peed his pants and screamed.
Why: he didn';t know that they really were going to explode the fireworks.
The scream in the movie is real!
-Eowyn Sywalker
Please tell me I'm right!
Mithisilien
03-04-2004, 08:00 PM
That's about as right as you can get, Eowyn! Your turn!
Eowyn Skywalker
03-04-2004, 09:06 PM
(Jumps up and down) Yay! I'm right!!!!!! I've always wanted to be right!
Okay, here goes nothing...
Which actor has a scar for life because of a mishap while shooting the Mines of Moria? Name the actor with the scar, and the actor who gave the scar to him.
I hope that's not too hard.
-Eowyn Skywalker
Sleepy Ranger
03-10-2004, 04:21 AM
Hint please?
rutslegolas
03-10-2004, 07:30 AM
ya we need a hint this is too hard
Gil-Galad
03-10-2004, 06:42 PM
Wasn't it Gimli that gave a scar to Aragorn or Legolas? or Aragorn to Gimli or Legolas?
Eowyn Skywalker
03-10-2004, 10:19 PM
Fine... a hint. Sorry, Gil Galad, but you are wrong...
Oh, yes. A hint...
The actor with the scar is one of the hobbits... the other was not a hobbit. But I'm not telling anytihng else at the moment save that the scar-giver was one of the 'Big people'!
So... name the hobbit's actor and the big person's actor.
-Eowyn Skywalker.
(Common, this isn't that hard. It was one of the first things I ever learned about... oops...)
Well? Answer me. I love coming up with hard questions!
Phervasaion
03-11-2004, 03:52 PM
Did Orlando Bloom give it to Dom Monaghan?
Arwen Imladris
03-11-2004, 04:57 PM
Viggo to Elijah?
I don't remember hearing about this one, I know Viggo managed to get a chipped tooth and a whole bunch of stuff, but hobbits?
Eowyn Skywalker
03-11-2004, 05:02 PM
Sorry Arwen Imladris. You are wrong too.
Phervasaion, you are getting close... but not right yet either. I never thought that this would be this hard...
Can't anyone get it right for a chance?
-Eowyn Skywalker, the elf who stole Luke Skywalker's lightsaber and is thinking about finding a new trivia if no one gets it soon.
Gil-Galad
03-11-2004, 05:26 PM
Sean Bean and....Sean Astin or Eijah
Eowyn Skywalker
03-11-2004, 05:41 PM
Gil-Galad, you are sooooo close... but not. I'm sorry, but you're still wrong.
Come on peoples, can't you get this right?!
-Eowyn Skywalker
Gil-Galad
03-11-2004, 05:46 PM
Sean bean and Dom, or that other guy(hobbit)
Viggo and AStin or that other guy? (hobbit)
Eowyn Skywalker
03-11-2004, 05:59 PM
Gil-Galad, it's one of them... but which one...? Oh, and that other guy is Billy Boyd, if you didn't know.
One of those is right... but which one...?
-Eowyn Skywalker:)
Gil-Galad
03-11-2004, 06:07 PM
i knew, just have bad memory
ooooooooohhhh.......
i think Sean and billy.....
Eowyn Skywalker
03-11-2004, 08:20 PM
Nope, sorry Gil-Galad, but that's not it.
-Eowyn Skywalker:)
Gil-Galad
03-11-2004, 08:23 PM
Sean and dom!
Samwise
03-11-2004, 08:54 PM
Very interesting question...wish I knew the answer! :(
Sean Bean to Sean Astin?
Eowyn Skywalker
03-11-2004, 09:05 PM
Samwise, I love your signature... to bad you didn't know it, ehh? Gil-Galad, by elimination, you have it... now you know another piece of triva. You seemed to really want to get this one... you have a really hard one, ehh?
Oh well, Gil-Galad, you have it.
Enjoy...
-Eowyn Skywalker:)
Samwise
03-11-2004, 09:07 PM
Thank you, Miss Eyown....but since you're giving it to Mr. Gil-Galad anyway, what WAS the answer? :(
Eowyn Skywalker
03-11-2004, 09:25 PM
Samwise, it was Dominic who ended up with the scar, and Sean Bean that gave it to him. Is that all right with you?
I still love your sig... I may have to borrow that last piece for one of my fanfiction.net spoofs...
Well, Gil-Galad, good luck. My eye is upon you now... we will see who gets yours now... me, the lady of Rohan who stole Luke Skywalker's lightsaber... or the dear hobbit, Samwise Gamgee.
(Theme music...)
-Eowyn Skywalker
Samwise
03-11-2004, 10:07 PM
Is that all right with you?
Dunno why it would have to be, but certainly. ;)
Waitin' for the next question.
Eowyn Skywalker
03-11-2004, 10:57 PM
I agree with Samwise... when's the next question?
Sam, I guess it'll be a battle beween us to answer the question right... when, of course, Gil-Galad posts it.
heh heh...
So, Gil-Galad, you have it right, it's your turn to post.
-Eowyn Skywalker
Gil-Galad
03-12-2004, 08:22 AM
i remember Sean Bean did the scar to someone...
well next question!
Name the actor who did crazy things to get to the place for shooting AND name the other actor who used his camera to tape the actor.
Lindir
03-12-2004, 03:55 PM
1. Sean Bean; he climbed up mts. and things to get to the set, because he didn't like flying in the helicopter.
2. Um.....Sean Astin? Dunno
The Perky Ent
03-12-2004, 05:36 PM
1) Sean Bean
2)Elijah Wood?
Samwise
03-12-2004, 05:45 PM
Sean Bean?
Viggo Mortensen?
Lyta_Underhill
03-12-2004, 06:34 PM
How about a guess of Sean Bean and Orlando Bloom? *off the top of my addled head*
Cheers!
Lyta
Gil-Galad
03-12-2004, 07:59 PM
Perky Ent has it!
The Perky Ent
03-13-2004, 06:59 PM
Name the actor who disliked music in the morning! Easy, but fun!
Phervasaion
03-14-2004, 05:54 AM
Ian McKellen. The Hobbits always annoyed him with their loud music that want to his taste:rolleyes: .
The Perky Ent
03-14-2004, 07:43 AM
It's correct, It's correct It's correct!
Phervasaion
03-14-2004, 01:53 PM
okay heres one. Who got involved with the police for wielding a weapon around a public area? Name the actor.
symestreem
03-14-2004, 01:54 PM
I'm going to say Viggo Mortenson, because he carried his sword everywhere.
Phervasaion
03-14-2004, 01:57 PM
Yep that was right symestreem. Your go.
symestreem
03-14-2004, 06:21 PM
Give me a day or two. I don't know much actor trivia.
symestreem
03-16-2004, 06:07 PM
I had a substance in my hair that would be considered a waste, because the starving people of the world could benefit from it. Which actor am I?
The Saucepan Man
03-16-2004, 08:04 PM
Did Orlando Bloom have GM hair, then? :D
Samwise
03-16-2004, 08:56 PM
Not a clue....Liv Tyler?
Thorongil
03-17-2004, 02:07 PM
Viggo Mortensen?
symestreem
03-17-2004, 02:58 PM
None of the above. ;) The substance is a food of some sort.
The Perky Ent
03-17-2004, 07:18 PM
Is it Sean Asten? Because he kinda had lembas in his hair, which is something starving people would want
Lindir
03-17-2004, 09:59 PM
Cate Blanchett?
Thorongil
03-18-2004, 12:07 AM
Ian McKellen?
Mithisilien
03-21-2004, 02:16 PM
Elijah Wood- didn't he have a piece of wheat stuck in his hair at one point, as Frodo in the movie?
Orcrist
03-21-2004, 02:56 PM
Sean astin
symestreem
03-21-2004, 03:31 PM
Nope. It was part of this person's costume.
NightKnight
03-21-2004, 04:02 PM
Hugo Weaving?
Samwise
03-21-2004, 04:29 PM
Uh......???......David Wenham?.....*still no clue...*
Orcrist
03-21-2004, 04:29 PM
John Rhys-Davies: he had crumbs in his beard
symestreem
03-22-2004, 03:53 PM
None of those. I mean it was part of his costume for the entire movie(s?) And it was scalp hair, not facial hair. It was put there deliberately to look like something else. The food is a fruit or vegetable.
Arvedui III
03-22-2004, 05:54 PM
Er, no idea, Sala Baker?
The Saucepan Man
03-22-2004, 06:42 PM
Lawrence Makoare? After all, he did play Mr Potato-Head (aka Gothmog). :D
symestreem
03-22-2004, 07:01 PM
No, but Mr. Man is on the right track.
Orcrist
03-22-2004, 08:43 PM
How about a clue?
Mad Baggins
03-22-2004, 08:56 PM
The right track? Hmm...Jed Brophy?
Nimikôi Angarauko
03-23-2004, 02:13 PM
John Rhys Davies, because of his allergy to laytex they had to use a wheat based glue, instead of the standard laytex based, to bing his prostetics to his face
symestreem
03-24-2004, 06:08 PM
No, it was in his hair. It was a replacement for another product that would have melted uner the lights.
The Making of the Movie Trilogy
Nimikôi Angarauko
03-24-2004, 06:26 PM
During the filming of the the pass of the Caradhras sequence instead of using real snow they used a synthetic snow, I can't remember exactly what it was amde of thouigh.
symestreem
03-24-2004, 06:52 PM
*shakes head* Something edible.
Orcrist
03-24-2004, 08:38 PM
Was it gelatin? (I have no idea)
Samwise
03-25-2004, 05:34 PM
It was New Zealand, so...it wasn't vegemite, was it? :p
symestreem
03-26-2004, 12:38 PM
It was something you would go to the store, buy a box of, and prepare for dinner. So no vegemite. What is that, anyway?
Samwise
03-26-2004, 04:11 PM
Vegemite is this really yucky "spread";p (for crackers and the like) that they use "down under".(No offense to any Aussies or NZers).
A can or a box....?
I want to say macaroni, but I never heard of macaroni in a can....or spaghetti sauce for some odd reason comes to mind, but never heard of that in a box... :(
~Samwise, the clueless Hobbit.
symestreem
03-26-2004, 04:32 PM
Erm... no... that would be kind of messy. You can eat this by itself, so it's not a sauce.
P.S. IMHO, the kind that comes out of the box is inferior.
Samwise
03-26-2004, 04:44 PM
I guess it would be messy, wouldn't it....
Powdered or condensed milk? No, tat would be messy, too....
*takes another stab in the dark*
Mashed potatoes?
Mithisilien
03-26-2004, 05:47 PM
I think another hint is in order. Is it a prominant feature? Like a nose or something?
The Saucepan Man
03-26-2004, 06:11 PM
Come on folks, you're supposed to be guessing the actor not the type of food. Identifying the food may help, but your guesses should be actors.
So far we've had:
Orlando Bloom
Liv Tyler
Cate Blanchett (twice)
Viggo Mortenson
Sean Astin (twice)
Ian McKellen
Elijah Wood
Hugo Weaving
John Rhys-Davies (twice)
Sala Baker
Lawrence Makaore (said to be on the right track)
Jed Brophy
So come on. There can't be too many more candidates...
Mithisilien
03-26-2004, 06:26 PM
Andy Serkis? He had a lot of makeup in the "Gollum Transformation scene" in Rotk...
Gil-Galad
03-26-2004, 06:37 PM
Billy Boyd or Dom?
Orcrist
03-26-2004, 08:36 PM
Sean Bean?
symestreem
03-26-2004, 08:39 PM
It wasn't Lawrence Makaore, it was the Mr. Potato-head that was on the right track. Samwise has the food, now just find the actor. :)
Who or what does Jed Brophy play??...
Orcrist
03-26-2004, 09:04 PM
Brad Dourif(Wormtongue). He had potato flakes in his hair for dandruff. At first they used soap flakes but those wouldn't stick under the lights.
The Perky Ent
03-27-2004, 07:55 AM
Bernard Hill, or however you spelll it. The guy who played Theoden
symestreem
03-27-2004, 08:11 AM
Orcrist has it. This is also the guy who shaved off his eyebrows... (Brad Dourif, I mean, not Orcrist.)
Orcrist
03-27-2004, 01:14 PM
Which main actor was not at the Fellowship Priemere(sp?)
symestreem
03-27-2004, 01:18 PM
I believe it was Cate Blanchett; she had just had a child.
Mithisilien
03-27-2004, 01:21 PM
I'm gonna say Viggo Mortensen, he's so anti social
Samwise
03-27-2004, 01:40 PM
Christopher Lee? I know he boycotted one of the films because PJ cut out some of his scenes or something.
The Perky Ent
03-27-2004, 02:10 PM
Andy Sercis (sp?) He's a main character and since he wasn't really in FORT, i guess he didn't show?
Orcrist
03-27-2004, 02:40 PM
You got it symestreem. ( Ican see you read THe Making of the Trilog)
symestreem
03-27-2004, 03:29 PM

MUAHAHAHA, the thread is mine once more!!!!!!!!! *thunder crashes*
:p Sorry. I have to go hunt up trickssy questionses, Precious. I'll be back later.
symestreem
03-27-2004, 05:02 PM
What was wrong with the scene in which the Ringwraiths pursue Arwen and Frodo? (It has nothing to do with the stunt doubles.)
Orcrist
03-27-2004, 05:26 PM
On the first day of shooting, one of the Ringwraiths fell off his horse.
symestreem
03-27-2004, 05:37 PM
Not what I'm looking for.
This "thing" is apparent if you watch the movie.
Eowyn Skywalker
03-27-2004, 05:50 PM
I haven't watched that scene in so long... *grrrrrr*
Okay, but I think I've heard something about this... There weren't enough, or there were too many wraiths... something like that.
I really have no clue, beyond that possibility...
-Eowyn Skywalker
Samwise
03-27-2004, 06:17 PM
Maybe hey couldn't make the sizes of "Arwen" and "Frodo" the right proportion?
Orcrist
03-27-2004, 06:23 PM
One of the Ringwraiths' horses was brown instead of black?
Samwise
03-27-2004, 06:29 PM
Well, for one thing, Arwen wasn't even supposed to be there....
Uh....Arwen spoke a line in English when it was supposed to be Elvish?
Arvedui III
03-27-2004, 06:58 PM
In some parts of it, Frodo has that greenish nasty stuff around his mouth and in other parts he doesn't.

No to all of the above. What do you mean about the line in English, Samwise?
This is a cinch. A blind man could get it. :D

Just when she says "No, no, you must not." I don't really know what language that was supposed to be in; I was just throwing something out, 'cause I really have no clue.

In the middle of the sequence, when you can see them all in the field, there are only eight Ringwraiths. At the ford, when they are hit by the river, there are nine. :D

You are on the right track with the hoofbeats, Ms. Skywalker, but it's not that simple. Keep with it.
Samwise, is the line you're thinking of possible "Noro lim, noro lim, Asfaloth!"? (Ride on, ride on, Asfaloth!)
The answer was listed as an "Easter Egg" in a newstand magazine shortly before RotK came out. Unfortunately, I don't remember which magazine :( so I can't help you there. I don't know if its available in other countries, either.

That must be it.
Um.... The sound of the hoofbeats didn't match the footfalls (hooffalls) of the horses? No...you said a blind man could get it....at one point the hoofbeats cut out?
Mithisilien
03-27-2004, 10:43 PM
Hmmm.....listening to it, it sounds like there's about one or two horses galloping, when you can hear the hoofbeats at all. I'm gonna say there aren't enough hoofbeats for the number of horses.
symestreem
03-28-2004, 09:56 AM
I'm going to give it to Samwise. What happened was when they filmed the scene, the horses were galloping, but the hoofbeats weren't picked up by the microphone. So they went back and added the sound in, but they accidentally added in the sound of cantering horses. (A canter is a bit slower than gallop, if I'm not mistaken. Plus, a canter is three beats and a gallop is four beats.) You can read about it here (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3540652/).

Mad Baggins is right. The Lord of the Rings Weapons and Warfare book says... shoot. It's buried at the bottom of a huge pile of books.
Fine time to organize your library, symestreem.

Okay, here's one for the mathematical set: What was the minimum amount of silicone Weta was using daily?
