I'm also from Oregon - the Willamette Valley. I've always thought of this part of the country as very close to Middle-earth. The lush forests, the farmlands in the valles, the rushing rivers - we even have Angband in the North ( industrialized Portland with it's mechanical dragon MAX snaking through it) and Mordor in the South (the polluted areas of Medford and its surrounds).
And the evil and easily corrupted peoples of the far south come from you know where! smilies/wink.gif
That is cool to find someone else from Oregon, northern valley or southern? I live in a college town, hence college student.

I am from the Southwest... of Idaho, that is. We're famous for our potatoes. I don't like potatoes. We should be famous for Sun Valley, skiing and gems. I like all three of those things. You think NC is Hickville? Try living in a state with a poulation of less than one million statewide and being famous for overgrown, edible roots. Our downtown is about five buildings big. And that's Boise. Everywhere else is a TOWN that's about five buildings big. The rest is barren desert and mountains. *Bursts into tears* I hate Idaho! I wanna leave as soon as I graduate!
Do not feel alone, Ith, as I have grown up in the rural communities. Often time still considered a village because we have only about 700 inhabitants and growing smaller.

hi everyone. im from Kent in England. i live in a town called Chatham, and the girls from our town are known as 'Chavs'.
a Chav must include the following:
- massive fake gold earrings (usually hoops with a ball on them
- no hairbrsuh (they just throw up their hair and look a state, but they think they look good
- they must at least once go into mcdonalds or burger king and ask for a cheese burger, but without the cheese
- have a clown necklace (a moveable gold clown usually, although may strtch to a doll)
- lastly, they must wear as much make up as humanly possible (but they still look ugly)
my school is full of these people, and everywhere you go in chatham, you are garenteed to see one!

Oh, and to stay on topic: Currently I am in College Station, Texas (WHOOP!), not so very far from Houston. (How would Durham compare to College Station? me wonders.)
Lush, surely North Carolina isn't that bad.
It isn't bad for hog farmers, tobacco growers, and some other people, I can concede that.
By the way, I'm going to Kiev this summer
Me too! I'll be coming home for a while. Let me know, and if we're there at the same time, you can give me a call.
any tips?
Bring a gun. Just kidding. Funny ha ha. A gun wouldn't make it past border officials anyway. Bring lots of cash to bribe people. Bring a smile. A camera (the architecture in Kiev is amazing in some parts, well worth your film). Bring a good guide. Seriously, I could give you some phone numbers just in case.

Hi everybody, one from Finland here! Like this country quite a bit, specially summer times. In the forests around my home (yah, I'm from the countryside) you can sense the spirit of Shire - peace and the thing called easy-living... Too bad I have to live in the city for my studies at the moment.

I hate Idaho! I wanna leave as soon as I graduate!
That's how all us Idahoans under 18 feel. Unfortunately, only about 30% of high school students go to an out-of-state college. smilies/frown.gif Everything about Idaho sucks; the economy, the education, the government....I could go on. All Idaho is known for is potatoes, skiing, and stupid Nazis. And then it takes hours and hours just to drive out of Idaho and see another state (it's too big a state for such a small population). That's why I made a promise to myself to make sure I leave this darned state and move far, far away.
Ok, I'm sure you've heard enough of complaining from this Idahoan. Carry on. smilies/rolleyes.gif
Gorwingel
02-16-2003, 03:49 PM
Why do all you Idahoians hate Idaho? I have visited there many times and I have always thought of it being a really great state. Where do you live? do you live in the south or the north, because I prefer the north to the south. It is very beautiful state. I enjoy Boise (yes, it is kind of small), Sun Valley, and Court d'Alene (sorry I think I am spelling that wrong), is it just because I am a tourist? smilies/frown.gif
I just wanted to add, that it is not like I am Miss Outdoorsperson or anything. I don't ski, hike, mountain bike, boat, or anything like that. It is just that I live in Washington State, and we motorhome, so to get basically anywhere else in the entire United States we have to go through Idaho, and I have always had a fondness for it. I just never knew that the natives dispised it so much, but I don't really live in a small town, or a place with few people, so maybe I just don't understand.

It's probably because you're a tourist. Yes, Idaho's a great place for outdoor activities, but after a while it can get old (I've lived in Idaho my entire life). There is no real entertainment in Boise for teens during winter except for the movie theater. Also, there isn't much opportunity in Idaho for someone looking for a job. I believe Idaho has one of the worst economies in the US.
But I suppose it's a great place to visit during summer if you like the outdoors.

Idaho can actually be great for outdoorsy people. And skiing is great. So is whitewater rafting, camping, wildlife, farming... but here's the catch. Boise is a really small "biggest city in the state." I mean REALLY small. The economy is going downhill when it was bad already, there are only about five colleges in Idaho, and there are very few job opportunities. Another thing is some people can't stand the cold. My friend has a condition where she's very cold-blooded, and she hates going out in the winter.
For another thing, public education is basically bad, and getting worse. Last year Gov. Kempthorne cut the budget for public schools in half. When I get to high school, I have to go halfway across town one period a day just to take Latin. There are other classes they cut out completely. They're giving more money to the prisons than they are to children. When I go to college, I'm definitely going out of state.
Then there's just big dreamers. There's no showbiz in Idaho, no outstanding colleges (except maybe Albertsons). I want to expand my horizons, and I can't do it here.
So there ya go. That's why I'd leave Idaho.

Im from Canada! And its snowed on April first (april fools day if anyone didn't know), thats even odd for us!
The other day (I think it was yesterday, but I can't remember) the weather in our town was completely wacked out:
I woke up to discover it had snowed a tid overnight. When I left for school it was raining. In my 8th period class I looked out the window and discovered it was hailing and snowing quite hard. Later in the early evening the wind picked up and it began to thunder and rain. An hour later, I swear I saw sunlight before it clouded up and began raining again. And if that's not weird enough, the temperature in Boise was in the 70s on Monday, while yesterday's high was only 44 degrees (F)! Still, I guess this weather shouldn't be too surprising considering it was raining in December (it was supposed to snow). Boise sure is a confusing place to live. smilies/rolleyes.gif

Adelaide, the city of church’s in Australia and a more beautiful place I have yet to find. The people are friendly and the town has a relaxed feel to it. If you ever visit Oz forget Sidney or Melbourne, Adelaide is the place to go.

It is interesting how everyone from a reputed farming center has to loudly make the claim that they are NOT farmers or "cowpeople!" And on that note, I live in rural Tennessee, USA, where I am the only one in my area who is NOT a farmer! smilies/biggrin.gif And there isn't even a town near me...if there were, there would be about 25 people in it--maybe. I think there are probably more Ents than people here, but they're not giving themselves away just yet!
Cheers,

I think there are probably more Ents than people here, but they're not giving themselves away just yet! Cheers smilies/smile.gif In my part of the world we have hardly any people, but no Ents. I'd like an Ent for a neighbour, there's plenty of forest for him to live in smilies/biggrin.gif Not only do I live in a country some people actually think is the capital of Sweden, but I even live far away from anything that might be considered civilisation. Ah well, I don't mind too much, as long as I've got my computer I'll survive. I'm moving as soon as I'm done with secondary school though. I live on the west coast! Technically. I actually live in the large, sweltering, pit of Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite what may be your first thought, i have absolutly NO FUN living here. It smells funny when it gets above 115 degrees (f), which is every day from May to September.
Dont come here, any of you. you will die a painful, slow, boring, hot death.

Sorry, I meant no meanness with my remark. :D I only meant that most of the people I've met on here are from Europe, and thus have something in common, like GMT! But that is not to say that everyone else isn't cool, despite the lack of GMT. :D I'm from the U.S, and I know alot of cool people. (not me though, I'm too socially inept to be cool ;) )
