When you decide to attempt to use the internet via your cell phone in order to access the Downs and check up on the WW thread while waiting for a movie to start in the theatre. That's what I did Thursday evening. I don't know how people manage to use their phones for internet on a regular basis...it's quite hard to read from the tiny screen. But I did manage to get through half a page...

A friend of mine is into Historical Fencing, and all of their drills have names/abbreviations that are of Italian origin. Her brother's sword was in their home today (she keeps her own at the training place), so she took it and asked me if I wanted to see [her perform] Form. Yes, sure, that'd be nice. Do you buy him plane tickets?

I have mentioned it here before, but it's been some time, and right now I have actually started to listen again to the music of Tony Iommi. It's some good music, but I doubt I would have paid enough attention to it in the first place, had I not been a Barrow-Downer...

When you always laugh when you see a Kelloggs Multi Grain package because you always misread the last word...

And also, when it makes you smile to see a downer's last name in a car register plate.

And lastly, related to what Legate just said, I might have to thank an old BD dream of mine for starting to listen to a band called Kent...

2. Yes, mostly. That way I can fit more müsli in there... ;)

I think it could be considered a sign of addiction that I seem to have taken to the habit of systematically using Downers as example persons if some schoolwork seems to require it.
There's at least one person who appears in my writings more often than any other. :p

I've been there, Gollum!:D It's also fun to make comparisons between ancient heroes and Tolkien's heroes, achilles the prideful Numenorean, Ajax the Dwarf, Diomedes the Elf! Oh the possibilities are endless!:D:D

What about recieving calls and text messaging?
For overseas calls, I don't think that's possible. Feel free to try as I'd love to receive calls or texts, but it probably won't go through unfortunately.

For now, I'll have to rely on Skype (which I still haven't actually downloaded since I bought my new laptop). Btw, more BDers should get a Skype account as it's a lot of fun...all you need is a microphone. The webcam is a bonus.

At first I though it was going to be a great movie, but it soon took a turn for the worst when the typical Hollywood political correctness started showing (hate it when that happens). You know you're addicted to the Barrow-Downs when you are plotting, so far in advance to ask your mum if you can send out more Christmas cards to Barrow-Downers this year. I would like to exchange cards with many BDers, but my mum gets a bit creeped out with people on the internet; so I must ask before I send. The one I got last year was very lovely.

Mum also gets antsy when I talk excessively about the BD, like in the car coming home from school, or in the supermarket, or walking down the road, or before bedtime. She now knows about Hookbill, Lommy, Aganzir, Volo, and many others because of my ramblings.

I am not sure if this is a sign that I am addicted to the Downs... but my brother started to play the melody from Fungoltch and Shcmurt on guitar!

...and even worse, it seems like he is making a song based on it... :eek:I've got that type of brother. Yesterday he drew a P and A. But not only did he draw a Phantom and Alien, but also was coming up with a whole cart-load of ideas for new ones, like he wants to write them.

But concerning myself, and Lauri. Someone at school was talking about something, and I think she said something like "lammy", Laurinque pipes up and says "Is that like Lommy?"

When you're in a new job and have to start one hour earlier than was your wont, plus 40 minutes of driving to work, all of which really sucks because you've always been a late sleeper - and yet you manage to get up another 5 minutes early just so you can spend those 5 minutes on the Downs reading last Night's narration from your current WW game and finding out who was killed.

As I was making my normal, routine trip to Starbucks yesterday morning. I parked next to a lime-green Honda Civic. On the side, in yellow print was "The Green Dragon" and beneath it something about rewarder's points.

I chuckled and considered taking a picture, but thought it would be unethical. What I did not know, is the man in front of me in line at Starbucks was the driver of The Green Dragon vehicle. So, as we were walking out and both back to our respective cars, I asked where I could find The Green Dragon, because I heard it has the best ale north of the Ohio River. I could not resist the temptation.

I thought it was funny, the guy just stared at me awkwardly, as if waiting to find out whether he heard me correctly and not wanting to put him through anymore awkwardness just said "have a good day."

At school, we had a project in which we had to design a video game.
For mine, my first thought was of a LOTR parody that went something like this:

The LOTR Dance-Off

Scenario: You have been trapped by the evil side and they have decided to allow one of you to escape. This is decided by a dance-off for their amusement.

Contestants:
G-Wizz (the dance-floor wizard)
Leggy-lass (the beautiful female)
Argon (the noble air)
And last but not least, Boromir the Disco King (It was by this time that I realised that I would be posting on this thread)

Judges:
Sour-One
Sourer-Man
Mr G'lum

And then I realised that no-one in my school would get all of the references (A depressing thought really), so I changes my idea to something more serious.

Well, 2010 can wait, the Downs cannot. Besides, why not be on the Downs whilst everyone else is partying. It is much quieter.

The news was on randomly, and I saw the scroll on the bottom say:

Italian PM vows to defeat Mafia!

And it took me a long time to figure out that they meant Prime Minister, not private message.

I definitely was just thinking "Private messages that are italicized!?" until I read the rest of your post!

So, I'm in my community theatre's production of West Side Story, and one of the songs is a dream sequence and I play Riff (who is one of the leads that croaks like half way through btw). Anyways, so we're in a polishing rehearsal (for those non-theatre folk, that's a rehearsal for fixing and tweaking choreography, making sure everyone's doing the same thing at the same time with the right and movements and all that jazz) and we were told by our choreographer to think of a happy place (which I think is hilarious because by this time in the play I'm dead). And me, being me, said out loud for all to hear "Boston!". So long story short, I have Bostonmoot and thus the Downs on the brain even while performing

Okay, I just discovered something very interesting which is definitely a proof of strong BD influence. I found my notes from some university lecture from sometime in spring 2008. The particular note is scribbled on the edge of the paper, apparently I wanted to note something in haste and used a BD referrence to save time. The note goes like this:

Twin imagination (Coleridge) - follow. germ. idealism - already what enters us from the outside (aesthema) is also primary imagination (reputedly Leibniz/reputedly from Kabbalah/reputedly from Talmud-Kitanna's avvie).

I am unable to uncover anymore what exactly is the avvie part referring to; but apparently during that time it was something so obvious that I used it while writing the note to sum up something I would otherwise have to describe with many words :)

5. I feel contempt for people that say that LotR is useless but never read it and don't know who Tolkien is
