-When you say to your cousin's cat: "Have I ever told you the tale of Frodo Nine-Fingers and the Ring of Doom?"

When I was up to the lake with my obsessed friend and her family and cousins, her 8-year old brother was walking around singing over and over "Frodo Nine-Fingers and the Ring of Doooooom!!!" I think he might have gotten it from the animated ROTK, but I wouldn't know since I've only seen the Bakshi one.

When the dog you're pet sitting does something really stupid (like runs into a wall for example) you say "You fool of a Took-Ruddy-Dog!"

I often say stuff like that to my dog, but I say stuff like, "Fool of a beagle!" and "Fool of a dog!" and "Fool of a Bernie!" smilies/biggrin.gif But my rabbit's name is Pip (after Pippin) and I also say to him "Fool of a Took!"

-You walk to your friend's house barefoot, ignoring the scaldingly hot pavement and rocky backroads... *I'm gonna have blisters tomorrow*

We did that at the lake when we were in the woods looking for maple saplings to roast marshmallows with, and my friend's cousin who likes LOTR was saying "ow..." like every 5 seconds, and my brother says, "What's wrong?" She says, "My hobbit feet haven't grown in yet!" It was quite funny.
But now I walk my dog barefoot all the time, and the pavement doesn't burn my feet anymore. It's starting to get scary...

-You get your mom to do the wave for Boromir the disco king. *I couldn't help myself! They were playing disco on the radio!*

I did that too... heheheh...

~You're obsessed when sunsets look like Mount Doom erupting. (Once there was a sunset where this cloud was sorta triangular, and the sun was sitting right on top of it, and it looked like Mount Doom! smilies/tongue.gif )

~You're obsessed when every time the windows or mirrors are fogged up when you get out of the shower, you write "DO THE WAVE FOR BOROMIR THE DISCO KING!!!" (I do it all the time....)

~You're obsessed when you and your friend are hiking up a mountain and you're waaaay behind everyone else because you're stopping and exclaiming, "Mushrooms!" at every one you find and pocketing it.

In one day, I have proved my obsession beyond a shadow of a doubt.
This morning, my sister and I went shopping for notebooks, pencils, etc, in preparation for school which starts next week. We then went to lunch. So far, I seemed to all observers to be a normal teen .

At Wal-mart, I saw a vest that was very elvish and I bought it, sacrificing my lunch for almost two weeks as I spent most of my lunch money on it.

One of the things on the menu at the restaurant was Wheat Grass. Among other things, about a tablespoon of wheat grass has the nutritional quality of two pounds of vegetables. I immediately compared it to lembas, mentally at least.

When we left, I called 'Namarie' to the server.

This afternoon, I spent about an hour and a half, cutting sleeves off of an old skate dress and attaching them to an old sleeveless shirt so that I would have an elvish type shirt to wear under the vest I bought this morning.

Yeah, after you get blisters a few times it stops hurting.

yesterday I was at the store with my mom, and we went past the electronics section, and on all the TVs they were playing TTT!!! Naturally I stopped to watch for a while, and even though there was no sound I knew what people were saying. (It's very strange to watch Theoden getting de-Sarumaned on at least twenty screens)

Hmm, I've marched around places singing My Favorite Things- the LoTR version smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

Raindrops in Ent-beards
And whiskers on wizards
Bright Rings of Power
And boiled orc-gizzards
Black-mantled Nazgûl
Who’re owned by their Rings
These are a few of my favorite things.

Hobbits on ponies
And lembas with noodles
Gollum, and Gimli
And oodles and oodles
Of heated discussions
About Balrog wings.
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white armor
Who fight in the masses
Mad old Denethor
Who burns into ashes
Rohirrim warriors
That fight while they sing
These are a few of my favorite things

When the knife bites
When Shelob stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.

heh... *scurries back to dark corner where all is safe and fiddles with sword*

ElenCala, I love it.

Yes, to whoever asked on the other thread, I did get a weird look when I told the server 'Namarie.'

Today was the first day of school, and I wrote many LotR things all over those 'getting to know the students' things that the teachers give out. I even did a little Tengwar.

Yes, to whoever asked on the other thread, I did get a weird look when I told the server 'Namarie.'

That was my question smilies/biggrin.gif Weird looks are fun!

I wrote in Tengwar with chalk...all over my friend's driveway... And scraped it into the wood in a little cabin thing, and scratched it in the dirt and... heh heh... The only thing I can write is my name though, so it got kinda boring. It's just "Daisy Daisy Daisy" everywhere. And that's not even my real name; it's my hobbit name. Oh well...

-You're obsessed when you've read the two other threads on this topic and still have things to say on the third... smilies/wink.gif

Oh good! I have a million. Hopefully I'll remember them

you bring your elven cloak in for show and tell (yes, we still have show and tell)

Today was the first day of school, and I wrote many LotR things all over those 'getting to know the students' things that the teachers give out. omg!!! your stalking me, because when the thread closed I wrote those exact words on my arm. that's so scary. I swear it was those exact words.

you go by your elvish name (yay! I finally had the chance to do this)

today I was asking my choir teacher something and I meant to say "F" but I accidently said "elf" my friend is still making fun of me for it. smilies/biggrin.gif

you have a heart attack when this thread is closed for a while.

You are not afraid to crawl around on all fours and hiss and roar for your Gollum impression.
Your friend says your Gollum impression is really good and realistic.
Said friend gets scared when you do your Gollum impression.
You tell everybody you meet about the Gollum-in-the-Simpsons. You even act out scenes for them.
You were giving directions but got distracted by a Two Towers DVD Poster (with Gollum!) and you ended up going the wrong way.

How about, you get really upset when someone points to Frodo and calls him "The Lord of The Rings" or in my case "El Señor de los Anillos" and thus end up giving them a lecture on the whole trilogy and the hobbit, add in a little silmarillion, point out that they should have read the books, explain nearly all you know about film production then give them a 20 page test on it...

Hurrah for multi-taskers! Yes, I never seem to have had too much trouble doing other things during science classes. And explaining about Luthien can sometimes be quite difficult.

-I'm sure I've said this before, but I'll say it again: When you go to a sleepover and tell your mildly obssessed friends the Tale of Tinuviel throughout the day and night (it takes a long time to tell!)

-When you notice, to your utter joy, that there is an LOTR bookmark on the wall of your English class. One day when you are lingering there after school, you ask your teacher why it is taped to the wall revealing the orc side, instead of the side with Boromir on it (perhaps you all know of what I speak). You then obtain permission to switch it, and sit through your English class smiling because there's a Boromir on the wall. smilies/biggrin.gif

Top Ten ways you know you're obsessed with LOtR (just copied and pasted these jokes from a site, in which for me- some are manifested.)

10.You like to role-play scenes from the trilogy. Even in the supermarket..
9. Your ideal date has pointed ears and is six feet tall. And old..
8. You have spent all your savings on Middle-Earth merchandise.
7. You once looked up in the sky and thought you saw a Nazgul fly by.
6. You wonder what Gandalf would have done, when making all your decisions.
5. You think your short neighbour is a hobbit and therefor adore him.
4. Your dog is named Huan, your horse Shadowfax and your first baby Elanor.
3. Your doormat says, "pedo minno a mellon".
2. You can quote almost anything from the book and movies, by heart.
1. You are actually reading all this...

I'm experiencing lately that most of the things that proove that I'm obsessed have become so natural to me, that I consider them perfectly normal...
Some of these are:

-Seeing ME and Tolkien-related stuff everywhere, even if it is not there smilies/rolleyes.gif
-confusing reality and fiction, now this gets me in real trouble lately, although, and it has been mentioned before, getting weird looks is so cool.

You sit in school reading about and thinking up signs that you ar obsessed with LotR is not a bad sign either.

Nor is constant reciting of Tolkien whenever seen fit (or not) in front of family emmbers who are expressedly opposed to this behaviour.

To feel a realistic urge to rush into PJ's office sometimes and beat him, tie him up and carry him home to "the holes in Michel's delving".

A lot of my posts on this forum, where I don't think I've explained myself that well, end in "if you take my meaning".

I haven't used any balrog references, but I say I eat like a hobbit instead of eat like a horse.

Yesterday I used up a load of ink printing out a *gigantic* picture of Denethor smilies/biggrin.gif I was so pleased with myself. It had never occurred to me before to rotate pictures sideways so I could make them bigger.

I saw another ent in the garden. And I keep seeing the Valar everywhere. Manwe is always peering at me from the sky.

Now I'm starting to scare myself.

-I love to make little obscure LOTR jokes that even someone who's obssessed might take a while to understand. Then I explain them to my mom... smilies/biggrin.gif I still think they're funny, but not many other people do... What are people coming to these days?

-When you decide that your list of imaginary friends is not complete without LOTR characters, so you add Merry, Pippin, Gollum, Frodo, and Sam. smilies/biggrin.gif Hobbits galore!

-When you randomly decide to write a comic book, and by the second page you have already added hobbits to the mix of characters... (it's cool!)

-When you come to this thread every day that your on the Barrow-Downs, just to get updates. smilies/smile.gif

-We know we're already obssessed because we've started to develop our own culture. You know, "kelebrate", elvish phrases, furthuring our obssession, trying to get weird looks, the like. Someday we should form our own country....

hey, I talk to you guys more then my real friends anyway

I'm getting to be that way, too. One must wonder which group of friends is more "real". Is it the Downies because we share more interests, or the people that we see face-to-face, simply because we interact with them personally? I seem to regard some of the Downers as my friends, even though I don't really know them personally. I wonder if this is wrong? (Don't you wish there was a thoughtful graemlin?)

When you get all excited because you thought of more stuff to add to this thread

I admit it. I've done it.

Now for some updates of my own:

-When you take a fork out of the drawer, balance it on your finger, look down it's line, whip it around in the air until it makes a swishing noise, look at it thoughtfully, and say, "This is a good fork". (Then I acted it out twice more for my mom). smilies/biggrin.gif

Underwater theme it is! Why don't we meet in Ossiriand, perhaps at the Sarn Athrad, and then journey to Belegost and hold our party there? I am quite interested in seeing one of the mighty realms of the dwarves, for in all of my years upon this Middle-earth I have not yet had the privilege of surveying a dwarven hall (as long as it's all right with you, of course). As to the ale, I was going to suggest that, but one figures, leave the ale to a dwarf or a hobbit, and bring to a party something that the elves can supply (see message icon smilies/wink.gif ). And yes, Beren would like to come, if that's all right. I'm not sure what he could bring, though.

You're obsessed when you can make every single assignment in creative writing about LotR.

To expand on that: You are given a creative writing assignment that is supposed to a sort of fantasy-type thing, and you are required to use certain characters. The title you must use is The Lord of the Things (all of this is true, it is an actual assignment I had about a year and a half ago!). One of your characters immediately becomes an elf, and the evil guy makes people sick with his LIsterine Breath and doesn't like getting stabbed in the leg. smilies/tongue.gif

You know you're obsessed with lotr, if you find your long lost sibling here.

Did you really, or was that made up?

Oh, and just for the record, I've gone off Denethor temporarily, and am now torn between Boromir and Isildur.

smilies/eek.gif Did I just read what I think I read? Oh well. If I remember correctly, it has crossed my mind that Meela would like Boromir some day. It just seems quite probable, and now it has happened! Meela, what is it with you and people of Numenorean descent? smilies/rolleyes.gif

Now for my contribution to our ever-growing list:

-You constantly feel as if you should further your obssession, even though you're obssessed enough as it is.

-You are taken into a jewelry store at the mall against your will. You try to make the most of it by searching for anything that looks like a Ring of Power (I was looking for the Elven Rings, in particular, but I didn't find any smilies/frown.gif ).

-You are also taken to Eyemasters and you sit there looking at those advertisements for color contacts that say things like "Lisa enhanced her blue eyes with our Pacific Blue contacts, blah blah blah". You notice that one of the models was named Estel. (I thought that was cool!)

-I think I'm drawing my mom into my obssession. I don't know. But she knew what I was talking about when I told her about the picture of the girl named Estel wearing brown contacts, and she seems to understand a lot of the other things I do, too. So that would definately be a sign of obssession: I'm drawing others into my obssessive vortex. Go me!

(I'm amazed you guys even read my posts. They always turn out to be so long!)

You have to work at the Brat Fest (brat as in bratwurst- it's a kind of sausage, for all you non-Wisconsinites) and it strikes you as something a hobbit would enjoy very much. By the way, where I live is home to the world's largest Brat Fest (yes there is more than one)

Heh heh heh... Brat Fest? That makes me smile... We don't have such things here on the east coast. We do have Strawberry Festivals, though...

When you see the movie X-Men, you cry out "Nooo! They can't make Gandalf evil!

On the same note, when you see the tv show Mystery (which has the same guy who plays Merry in it- I've forgotten his name, I think it's Dominick something *scolds self for forgetting*) you forget that his name on the show is Jeffry and that his girlfriend's name is Janet and always call them Merry and Estella instead. You know you're obsessed with LotR when you are already planning your movie marathon party for once RotK extended edition comes out on DVD.

Oh yes, also: When you tell your friends that you are saving up money to spend about $100 dollars on a necklace, but don't specify what type, and they all just gape at you. And then one of them says, "Oh, it must be something from LotR." And you just grin sheepishly... smilies/rolleyes.gif (It's Arwen's pendant, by the way.)

When you go to a mountain man rendezvous (Fort Bridger, in case anyone cares) and buy everything you can find (that I could afford)that looks even slightly elvish.(celtic knot earrings and a necklace)

You call the dirks that your friend's dad has "hobbit swords," because they have a little knife, and a little fork, for eating.

When you make yourself moccasins and get extremely excited when your friend's sister says that they look elvish.

Oh, I saw a VM lookalike there, it scared me for a second.

I got a megabunch of weird looks for something I did that wasn't really LotR related,(think PotC) including a Startled Blink, and many Stares. (YAY! My first Startled Blink!) smilies/wink.gif

Can you tell that I love rendezvous? So much fun! (even if it keeps me from the 'downs for 4 days)

When you put your elven name on your assignments instead of your real name.

You don't get in trouble for that?

You've begun to wonder why a man will give his fiancee an evil ring as a token of his love.

I always notice people's plain gold wedding bands and snicker. My dad has one. Once I took my mom's ring and held it up to the light bulb of our lamp-chandelier thing to see if writing would appear on the band. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

Why thank you! smilies/biggrin.gif I've only ever gotten a chance to try Luthien colors, though, and silver and alternating dark and light blue besides that, because I spent literally months with chains on my braces, which my dentist only had in plain old boring gray. So that was kind of annoying.

Imrahil as well? You have excellent and exactly the same as mine taste
... you don't like Denethor by any chance do you?

Thanks for the compliment, Meela! I've never been too partial to Denethor, though, I'm sorry to say. Although your obssession with him has made me see him in a whole new light... and I may very well be on the way to liking him. This most excellent quiz (http://www.hobbitlore.com/personality/) even says that my personality is closest to that of Denethor. Every time. I've taken it probably about four times, I've changed my answer, and waited for months before taking it again. I've taken it at different times of day and when I'm in different moods, but every time I answer honestly and don't try to force it to give me a certain answer, I get Denethor. So I guess being like him is close to liking him. smilies/biggrin.gif

I'll probably get them turquise, though, that's sort of my "trademark" color

Well, you don't have to get turquoise every time, because you can usually change the colors every month or so. So you can have turquoise one month and LOTR colors the next!
smilies/biggrin.gif

EDIT: On the quiz, I just discovered that if I change a particular answer I get Eowyn instead of Denethor. But after reading through both descriptions, I think the Denethor one fits me a lot better. The Eowyn one I think is actually my mom's personality type. So I'm sticking with the Denethor result. smilies/biggrin.gif

I really frightened myself last night.

Apparently, I was talking in my sleep, and according to my 8-year-old brother, I was speaking in fluent Sindarin (or what appeared to be fluent Sindarin to him), and talking to Aragorn about his upcoming wedding to Arwen, and apparently, I was also referring to myself as Eowyn, which was just strange.

The weird part is, I'm not fluent in Sindarin! Heck, the only Sindarin I understand is a little of the language spoken in the movie! Not enough to talk about weddings!

When you have so many LotR bookmarks in your "favorites" list that you have to make a second folder

I have one for Downs things, one for my favorite character (Sam smilies/biggrin.gif ), and one for things having to do with LOTR. I really should divide my LOTR folder into two or three, because it is rather long.

When you just realise your party with Luthien and Beren wont work because they are dead.

But we're all dead here! smilies/biggrin.gif (Pass the pheasant, would you?)

You play 'Orc Orc Uruk-Hai' at small children's birthday parties.

I should try that...... No, I don't think I would ruin some small child's day by calling them an orc.

Sindarin sleep-talking..... hmmmm.....

-I went outside last week to look at Mars (this was the 28th, so I think it was at its brightest, correct me if I'm wrong), and it was really cool. It looked sort of like Earendil sailing through the heavens in Vingilot. So I stood out there in the middle of the night saying Aiya Earendil Elenion Acalima and A Elbereth Gilthoniel....! 'Twas fun! smilies/biggrin.gif

-When you talk to yourself in your head as if you were Gollum (sometimes not even on purpose!). So you'll just be walking around thinking about something, and then "We can't get this refrigerator door open, oh no, precious, we can't. Ah! There it is, precious, there it is. Do we have pizza, precious, do we have nice pizza? Give Smeagol good pizza..." or something along those lines.

-When you pride yourself on the fact that everything you've ever posted on this thread is something that you've done ar are pretty sure that you've done or are going to do (in other words, none of it has been made up).

Everyone who took the quiz, would you mind posting the results? I'm interested..... And Meela: Take the quiz! See if you get Denethor! (Or Beregond, or Imrahil, or Elladan, or Isildur, or Boromir, or.....)

Well, here's my result (oh, no, now you're going to know all about me!):

Denethor, Son of Ecthelion, Lord and Steward of Minas Tirith

People like you are rare. Unfortunately the closest person is Denethor. His obsession with knowing the future and suspicion of others is characteristic.

Everything that happens is important and you do not want to miss any of it. Others often look to you for courage, leadership, and wisdom. Social interaction energizes you. The more people the merrier. You have a tendency to introspection. While providing compassion and being considerate, you may have the tendency of being soft-hearted or even "too emotional" You like keeping your options open. Closure is probably not one of your strong suits.

The Orcs display the evil side of this personality with their lengthy torture methods.

Traits: Empathic, benevolent, looking to the future. On the dark side you could be sadistic.

Took the quiz again. I was a bit more honest this time, and this is what I got:

"You are most like
Boromir, Heir of Denethor, Captain of the White Tower

You are good at winning others' confidence and not shy at telling others what to do. Social interaction energizes you. The more people the merrier. You have good observational skills. In your desire for clarity in life, you may have the tendency of being remote or even "heartless". You like keeping your options open. Closure is probably not one of your strong suits.

Like Boromir, you are not content to sit on the sidelines while the action takes place around you.

Traits: Open minded, easy going, persuassive, optimistic about the future. On the dark side you could be exploitative and an opportunist."

So would that make Meela my adopted mom? smilies/eek.gif j/k. I love you, Meela! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

A very good quiz indeed, Luthien_Tinuviel! I got Frodo: With many acquaitenances, Frodo is deeply attached to a few people, like Bilbo, Aragorn, Gandalf, and Sam. His high ethics come out in his treatment of Gollum and Saruman. Frodo has pity on Gollum and believes that change can occur.

You have a strong personal morality. You are committed to relationships and their growth. You tend to be an idealist, believing the best of the world around you. Time alone is important and solitary activities refresh you.

That describes me very well! (Except for the sadistic bit...but I guess I'm not an orc.)

In band we are playing music from LotR! smilies/smile.gif I'm so excited. But that may partially be because my mom is the band teacher at my high school, and I practically forced her to let us play LotR. smilies/tongue.gif

Today, my French teacher said he couldn't stand to watch LotR because "it was three hours of the most boring, never-ending chase scene." smilies/mad.gif That made me very angry. What's worse, he said he loved the Harry Potter movies, which were not that great compared with the books, and definitely not as good as the LotR movies! smilies/eek.gif Well, different tastes, I guess...I suppose it's not for everybody. Anyway, that wasn't exactly on topic, but oh well.

just took that personality test, here's my result:

You are most like
Frodo Baggins, Son of Drogo

With many acquaitenances, Frodo is deeply attached to a few people, like Bilbo, Aragorn, Gandalf, and Sam.

Some of that is quite accurate actually! especially about being an idealist...and no, closure is DEFINITELY not my forte!

OK. Here is what it says about me:

The Dwarves

As the halls of Moria show, Dwarves like building and inventing.
Curiosity is one of your strong points as it allows you to think of better ways to acheive goals. You may try to outwit the system of you get bored or annoyed with it. Social interaction energizes you. The more people the merrier. You have a tendency to introspection. In your desire for clarity in life, you may have the tendency of being remote or even "heartless". You like keeping your options open. Closure is probably not one of your strong suits.

As the foil to Aragorn, Sauron clearly embodies the evil side of this personality.

Traits: Pragmatic, autonomous, ingenious, resolute. On the dark side you could desire power and domination.

OK. I'm a dwarf but somewhat like Aragorn. Yay! To the last part! Aragorn is my fave character

You know you're obsessed when

- You know the exact minute in TTT when Legolas slides down the steps on a shiled. (Battle at Helm's Deep).

- You deicide the Elves are smiling on you (and frequently tell peole so) cos ROTK is released on the same day as your birthday and much to the horror of your non-obsessed friends decide to have 2 themed parties. One for your b/day and one for the movie release.

I like the idea of having your room decorated LOTR style. However, my mum won't let me paint it again (I had it done recently before I came obsessed). Tis light- bright green and lilac. I'm guessing a wood of some sort. What do you reckon?

Meela
09-06-2003, 04:46 AM
My room is also green and lilac. I intend to redecorate in a more Lotr style soon, though.
Green and lilac... yeh, I can imagine a gorgeous sunlit wood, the floor carpeted with lilac flowers. Perhaps somewhere in the Shire, or an Elven woodland.
If you wanted a more woodland effect, you could get a few pieces of old sponge and some different shades of green paint (sample pots are usually enough), and and sponge a leafy, woodland effect all over the green walls. Well, that's what I might do, anyway smilies/smile.gif

I'm so sad. I just started in a new school, and I have sooo much homework. Plus, I got TTT as a birthday present on Wednesday, and I didn't even have time to watch it untill last night smilies/frown.gif smilies/frown.gif . Lucky... My mom's not much of a book person. I tried to get her to read LotR, but she wouldn't... But I guess they're just sick of me... smilies/wink.gif Btw, Happy Belated Birthday!

Woo! I'm finally making an Elvish dress smilies/biggrin.gif *squee* I found a pattern I liked, and I bought fabrics and stuff...so I'm gonna make one! I shall have to post a picture when I'm done...

-When you have to make up an element for science class and decide to name yours in Elvish *heh heh*

-When you do your Elvish homework before your school homework *Hey, I have my priorities!*

-When you enjoy your Elvish homework so much that you more of it than you're required to do.

As you can see, I'm taking a course in Elvish ^_^ I'm doing the Sindarin course at Council of Elrond (http://www.councilofelrond.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Workbook&file=workbook&dp=workbook) It's great fun! I'm enjoying it smilies/smile.gif

YYYYYYYYYYYAAY! *breathes a sigh of relief*
I'm so sad. I just started in a new school, and I have sooo much homework. This is the first time in almost a week that I've gotten to go on the Downs-- I think I was starting to go into withdrawal when I couldn't. I know how you feel. I have been soooo busy and my internet was down for two days. It got so bad my family even pointed out I was going through withdrawls. And people would call and ask "so, what are you doing" and I would reply "Well, it looks like I'm doing nothing, since the internet is down!"

Today, my French teacher said he couldn't stand to watch LotR because "it was three hours of the most boring, never-ending chase scene." That made me very angry. What's worse, he said he loved the Harry Potter movies, which were not that great compared with the books, and definitely not as good as the LotR movies! my old english teacher said she hated harry potter because she had a whole group of obsessed fans in her class and it annoyed her. By the end of the semester it only took me to annoy her into hating lotr. I'm quite proud of that actually (not that I want her to hate lotr, I just accept the inevitable)

I convinced her to read LotR, and she just finished it about a week ago my mom read Lotr long before I did. Although she never finished Rotk. One day she says she will borrow my copy and finish.

ok... now for mine:
I was getting some miles in for the WTR and I started pretending I was actually walking to Rivendell. (I.e. talking to chars and such) I got some strange looks.

A local politician was speaking on the news and I was upset with what he was saying so I started yelling things like "son of snakes" in Elvish.

I am now convinced that I really do have the one ring, because I had the one I always wear around my neck and I was laying on the bed and my cat hopped up onto it and came over and was sort of entranced by it. And what was wierd was it wasn't hanging down or swinging, so it's not like he wanted to play with it and instead of batting at it he tried to grab it with his claws. (whew long run-on I hope that made sense)

I haven't done that yet but I am planning to soon. I have a quill, and I have ink, now all I have to do is take them to school.

Thoroughly dependable, Faramir is loyal to his father. He keeps a watchful eye on the east border of Gondor.

- you DID want a whole load of dvds for your birthday because you are an enormous film fan and want to be a film critic/columnist in a newspaper but instead you decide you want nenya and arwen's necklace

-if you don't get nenya and arwen's necklace, you decide that you will buy them with your birthday money

Also when I was done I patrolled around a while to make sure no one messed it up again and this young couple was holding up Eomer and saying "Is it him or that other blonde dude that he likes" I cringed....

Then the oddest thing happened today my sister came home from work and told me a girl who worked their too and went to the same school as me told her(my sister) there was a girl at school that looked like her (my sisters and I look an awful lot alike) that is obsessed with faeries (*sigh* it's elves darn it!) and goes by a funky name (my elvish name) hehe smilies/biggrin.gif My sister told me the girls name and I had never heard of her. Oh, Rilwen, how sad!

Try kelebrating Random Band-Aid week for weird looks. (I'm not sure when it is at this time, but I can find out) On Random Band-Aid week you put a brightly-colored band-aid somewhere noticeable (like on your face) and every day of the week you change it, and put a different band-aid somewhere else.

Another good way to get weird looks is to put a small sticker on the tip of your nose. I did this with a sticker that said "4", and when people asked me why it was there, I said it was the number of lembas I ate that morning.

I'll think up more later, hope that helps!

On the day before Viggo Mortensen's birthday, I went around with fake Elf Band-Aid ears to celebrate. smilies/biggrin.gif That's bloody genius!

Let's see...I haven't been here in a whole *gasp* two days, so I have a lot to add...

-You put the One Ring in your still life for art, even though it has nothing to do with the rest of your objects, you just want to draw it... smilies/wink.gif

-You label your school-books in Tengwar

-You draw the Doors of Durin on your pizza box so that no one else will eat it

-You read Frodo's horoscope in the newspaper (he's a Virgo smilies/wink.gif ) and think of what sign the other characters would be if you don't have thier birthdays

-While fabric shopping, you notice that hugging a piece of folded velvet is probably just like what it would feel like to hug Frodo...

Dinosars! Hee hee hee! I will definately try that, but with ordinary band-aids. *chuckles at funny mental picture of elves with dinosaurs on their ears* smilies/biggrin.gif

I feel awful for not posting on this thread in a while. It must have something to do with my advanced classes and the fact that I'm having a bit of difficulty keeping up with certain classes...

Anyway, today in my Physics class, we played pictionary (don't ask) and one of the guys said that he knew greek (I can't remember why), I said, "I know elvish" with kind of a shrug, and then he said, "I want to learn that." I was so excited. And then we ended up talking about LotR during notes (bad us! smilies/biggrin.gif ) and I told him about BD so maybe he'll show up here someday soon and that would be so cool!

Finwe, I'm so jealous! I want to date an elf! *plots to steal Finwe's b/friend so that she can date an elf smilies/evil.gif smilies/wink.gif *

And, sadly, that's all I can think of at the moment. Which is sad for my obsessiveness.

You know you're obsessed with LotR when:

--You are walking home and know where all the good places to get sword-straight sticks are on the way.

--You get one of those sticks and act out one of the RPGs that you're in (playing someone else's character because yours is male and you aren't).

--You behead several stalks of grass, about a dozen m.ushrooms, and one tree-branch, calling them orcs and trolls, and shouting "Gurth G.othrim Tel'Laiqataure!" (which means Dea,th to the foes of the Greenwood! (courtesy of Nerindel))

--After you have destroyed the foul minions of Sauron, you run across a poor, (presumably)i.nnocent spider, and kill it, shouting, "Die you evil spawn of Ungoliant!"

--Your sword breaks, and you stop beheading plants.

--Now Greenwood is peaceful apparently, because you pick a handful of small white flowers, calling them 'niphredil' and braid them into a coronet.

--You almost cry when said coronet isn't quite big enough to fit on your head.

--You 'kelebrate' because you can wear it after all. (arrange it like a tiara)

--You sing the ME version of 'My Favorite Things' at the top of your lungs while walking home.

--You call a few guys who got on your nerves by calling out at you as you walked past 'Bill Ferny and Friends' (under my breath, so they didn't hear me. I had heard enough from them, hanon le.)

After all this, you finally get home and immediately go to the Downs to post it all. smilies/biggrin.gif

Edit: I apologize for the periods in weird places; my computer censors the oddest words...

She said, "That's crazy!" and turned back to her work. But it was a good crazy! Like...crazy as in "I never knew they made those...that's kind of weird..."

Not much of a story, but I was quite excited. Ya know what? In real life I'm pretty shy and quiet but on the Downs I'm more...outspoken. Hmm... Ah well.

The thin one, who looked to be the oldest was Frodo, the one who kept following him around and talking to him was Sam, the one who kept jumping around like a maniac was Pippin, and the other one was Merry... Then I was Boromir and my friend was Aragorn. smilies/biggrin.gif

I fought my first orc today! My sword was two branches that had twisted together into one, so it was a bit weird looking....but it worked just fine!

While riding your bike, you hear a car coming behind you, and decide to pretend it's a Nazgul. You shout "Noro lim, Asfaloth!" to your bike and try to go faster than the car. (It didn't work, I'm too slow.)

Haha! That's great. smilies/biggrin.gif

And congrats on your shade-dom, Elennar Starfire! *cheers* smilies/biggrin.gif

Good girl. smilies/biggrin.gif And don't forget the last Sunday of this month; when the hobbits reach the Barrow-Downs! smilies/wink.gif

Guess what? You know how certain theaters will be doing a special promo of RotK, showing the Fellowship and Towers EV's on the 16th and then showing RotK at midnight? I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE THEATER BY ME HAS BEEN CHOSEN TO DO THAT!!!!! *jumps up and down in hyper-ness* I'm so excited! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

Wow! That's so exciting! I wish that was happening near me. smilies/frown.gif Oh well...lucky you! *cheers for Sapphire* smilies/biggrin.gif

You know you are obsessed with LotR when, on your (so easy for native English speakers that it was insulting) English grammar homework, when you are asked to write the plural of "leaf" (I told you it was easy), you write "lassi" but then realize it was English grammer, not Quenya.

p.s. - Welcome to the Downs, Pirate Lailosse! smilies/smile.gif

When you name random strangers after LotR characters.

Yep, I do that too, except I only name lookalikes. And guess what? Eowyn transferred into my dance class! smilies/cool.gif I know her real name now, and she's really fun to talk to. I'm Arwen, and Eowyn is my friend! smilies/biggrin.gif

And congrats on your shade-dom, Elennar Starfire! *cheers*

Thank you, Goldberry! I'm so proud, I'm a shade! smilies/biggrin.gif

And what grade are you in? I get a lot of insultingly easy assignments in my English class too. The sad thing is that some people actually don't understand it. I pity them.

I actually didn't get as many weird looks as I expected for dressing up today, lots of people knew that its talk like a pirate day, and there were three Jack Sparrows that I saw at my school, (including me) and lots more un-sparrish pirates. It was fun though.

Edit: How long will this be on the 6th page? It's been like this for several days!
GET POSTING ALL YOU PEOPLE!!! smilies/wink.gif

You know your obsessed with lotr when you
A. Talk to people you know in real life about other downers
B.Change every name and place when you are doing work in class into LotR
Finally, this is the mother of all things you can do to know, You write about LotR for your college essay

you dress up and show your friend your new Easterling/Haradrim spy costume (complete with dirt smudges and gold and black designs on face) and it is so convincing that he picks up your sword (which was conveniently lying on my sofa) and starts chasing after you, screaming "Herio!"

(Don't ask, I have strange friends.)

Last night, because I am in the downs for the walk to rivendell I wore my costume equipped with my sword and bow and arrow (Imagine the looks I got). Then I saw a bunny and yelled " It's a wight!" and shot passed it. (of course purposely missing) My mom was quite worried smilies/rolleyes.gif

*squee* Lucky! I don't know if my theater's doing that... I'll have to find out. I certainly hope so!

-All your friends know who Glorfindel is but they haven't read the books, it's just your kind inputs smilies/wink.gif

-You find yourself humming "Gil-Galad the Elven-King" subconsiously

-Your friends can always tell when you're about to make a LotR refrence because your face lights up and you start giggling... *Me? Guilty? Nahhh...* *shifty eyes*

-You tell LotR jokes to everyone you see, even if they don't get them. If they don't, you spend some good quality time explaining.

I am a firm believer that the Jokes (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=17&t=000456) thread should be revived smilies/wink.gif If only I had a joke...

Don't meant to dampen thy parade, but it's Gil-Galad WAS AN elven king." I should know, I've memorised it.

when you get annoyed when people don't pronounce the double "n" in "Yavanna".

When nobody you know says Yavanna so you try to make them say it just so you can shout at them and then post about it here. smilies/smile.gif

Hannon le, mellyn nin! smilies/biggrin.gif I sure hope a theater near you is doing that, Amarantha; if not, you're always welcome to come join me at The Commons!

Okay, this was actually kinda creepy:

I fell asleep last night, but I forgot to take my Ring off before I went to bed (I was *that* tired...), so I still had the chain around my neck. Then I woke up in the middle of the night and my hand had clenched around the Ring while I slept. smilies/eek.gif

My brother just got the Bionicle: Mask of Light movie, and I was able to liken most of the characters and the main plot to LotR. Go me! smilies/biggrin.gif
