I've seen that book and it includes a lot of stuff, but it doesn't include everything. If you feel that I have let any kind of creatures slip through the cracks, please tell me. I suppose the major...

To me, Gollum is one of the most likable characters, even though the things he does should drive the reader away from him. He provides most of the comic relief for me (almost all of the humor that...

I guess it could include whatever you want it to. Eventually it might include all of the races and subraces. I was merely noting the lack of text citations, in case somebody asked, "Hey, where'd that...

Thumbs up Tolkien Monster Manual

So, this is a bit ambitious, but all of the other attempts I have seen at this have left me disappointed. Would anyone be interested in trying to come up with a complete bestiary of Middle-Earth....

Types of Dragons

So, were there combos of any of these? Winged cold-drakes? We are told about Scatha, who was a cold-drake, and the dragon who drove the drove Thorin's folk from the Grey Mountains was presumably a...

I try not to read to much into Tolkien, symbolically. Especially since I read that bit in the prologue about "applicability". Beyond that, it seems that Morgoth being bound to the earth helped...

I give it a tie between Gothmog-Gandalf-Witch King. Gothmog was probably the best fighter. Gandalf had great powers, but was able only to defeat an unamed Balrog and he himself perished for a time....

Tolkien The world and the word

For me it started with the story. It took me a long time to realize the massive scope of the world, which will never be rivaled again by any author, I think. My final conclusion about Tolkien,...

The Eye Trolls,

As far as I know there are Cave Trolls, Hill Trolls, Stone Trolls (Bill, Burt & Tom), Mountain Trolls, Snow Trolls, and the Olog-hai. I'm not sure where all this information comes from, though.

The Eye Gongs or Gongers

Both in TME (Tolkien Monster Encyclopedia?) there is an entrance for Gongers, which are said to be like goblins. This same definition is given in a Tolkien quiz. Does anyone have a book reference?

I am having trouble visualizing how Maedhros defended his realm, especially after the Dagor Bragollach, when the enemy was active all around him. As far as I know, all he controlled were the hills of...
