Actually, Sam ends up getting more fame and appreciation from the Shirefolk when he returns than Frodo does. He even becomes mayor, while Frodo is basically unappreciated.

Anyway, for that reason, along with others, I pity Frodo. He goes endures so much and undergoes so much inner-turmoil.
