How about giving yourselves sidekicks to carry along with your characters. No need to go into a long character description -

Just:

NAME

AGE

WEAPONS

AND A VERY SMALL BLURB ON ANY INTERESTING PHYSICAL FEATURES

These are the sorts of characters you can use for dialog if you need it or have them killed etc . . .
