Well the events of 15 - 10 years ago stay in the memory of those old enough to remember them - on the whole I assume that the obsessive Tolkienism of downers does not preclude an interest in current affairs - obviously a lot of downers are in their mid teens and I am not sure how much recent history gets taught in schools.....

Let's hope that their Geography books are no older than they are! But seriously, I do recall that history textbooks seem to avoid more recent events until they has been quite thoroughly digested.

Well I remember many text books being older than me - so much so that French friends boggled when I used a very antiquated word for a sweater, I might as well have said I was going to put on a crinoline! As for History - we only ever seemed to do the industrial revolution .......
