Which 50th edition did you get? I saw a very nice boxed set of the new hardbacks with a Readers' Companion, in Waterstones, yesterday but alas, the box was damaged!

Okay, this is going to be a stretch, but I really don't buy LOTR merchandise very often. So here it goes:

Last night I went to a concert of a band from New Zealand. Turns out that they live about half-an-hour away from where Hobbiton was filmed. "We're about as close to hobbits as you are ever going to get." I bought one of their cds. So indirectly I guess, I added to my LOTR collection.

I have seen the Boxed version, but I did not get it. It was a Birthday present and is just the hardback book with all the pretty pictures... well, the pages from MArbulaz (no idea if that is the correct spelling) and the big maps... but all the same...

That's a mighty fine birthday present.

The damaged boxed set is still lurking on the shelves of our local Waterstones - I'm hoping it goes into the sale after Christmas as the tear on the binding might be repairable.

Darn it, the damaged box set of LotR in our local Waterstones has not gone into the sale.

But anyway...

I bought davem the Lord of the Rings Trivia Game for Christmas, and I can recommend it. It's not the Trivial Pursuit one, this one has artwork by Ted Nasmith, and the questions are set by members of the Tolkien Society and Daeron's Books, and it also has a fun traditional board game element (and is less than half the price of the 'Triv' version!). We found the questions in 'Triv' far too easy, but the ones in this are not always easy, and you can make answering them more difficult if you wish. Plus it looks nice. We had two games of it straight after Doctor Who and really enjoyed it.

Indeed. It is a great game with exceptional artwork and book-based questions. Only problem I have is finding someone willing to play it with me. Mrs Saucepan and I have played a few games, but since I always managed to win ...

"New" Tolkien Calendars

I have been fortunate to catalog three "new" calendars (ones I had not previously discovered). Have acquired two of them and am working on the third. Will add them to my compilation when I receive them. You can check them out at:

www.angelfire.com/tn3/tolkiencalendars

And check out the "Calendar of the Month" feature. Comments on the site are always welcome!

Away from the Green Hill Country,

Parmastahir
