				Computer passwords for work

When the easiest to remember alpha-numeric combinations for passwords are barrow-downers screen names? When you need an eight letter password and your RPG spouse's name works perfectly.... Yes I know.. I need to get out more.....

When you're writing an RPG post in the middle of a very boring lesson, and then realise that you've written your characters name on the piece of work you've just handed in instead of your own. Getting it back was interesting!

When you see a picture of anyone looking surprised or horrified, you instantly say that they have just seen Gandalf the grey uncloaked. I've had some very strange looks. Or At school / collage, you attach small wheels to a paper mashie volcano someone in another class has made and label it 'Mount Zoom'. Yes, I did do it! Or indeed: Whenever asked to write your occupation, you nearly write 'Downer'. Not guilty... yet.

When your Chem lab instructor asked you to come up with a code name for your unknown analysis, you choose Aluměne Umfuěl - partly because you just realized the wittiness of the name the previous night (thanks to your brother), but for a larger part because you want to hear your lab instructor fumble as he tries to pronounce the name. *insert evil smilie here* Fea, if you ever read this, I want you to know that you are one of the most brilliant people I had the honor to know. When you start thinking twenty four/sevem about who the Wolves will decide to attack at Night and if they'll get lucky and get a Gifted. Oh, and lets not forget when you start talking out loud to yourself about the games. I admit it, I'm obsessed.

I think this is not so much what an "addict" does...maybe more like masochist. Out of sheer boredom, you search for your oldest posts that the Search function can come up with, and spend a lot of time cringing at the posts of your newly-deceased self. Hasn't this been mentioned before? |

You've been awake for about 30 hours, you're dead tired and have reading to do, and you're still clicking the refresh button on the forums index. You work on posts by saving them in your email so that so you can work on them while away from home. You once typed a fairly long RPG post on your tiny PDA screen while you were supposed to be listening to a lecture. Granted, it was a very borrrrring lecture that I had absolutely no interest in hearing and that had no educational value for me, but still...

			1) When you have a folder on your computer named 'Werewolves'. 2) When you jump up every time you hear someone say anything vaguely Tolkien-related. 3) When you try to think of a way to subtly incorporate in a post that you have finished the Silmarillion, just so you will always remember the exact date. 4) When you know the screen-names of all members on the first and second page by heart, including their personal titles - if they have one. (Though this is not as obsessive as it may sound - I have an extremely good memory when it comes to names. No really!). 5) When, on a rather uneventful night, you start reading ancient threads to know what all the 'oldies' are always referring to. I must say, it was a revelation. It's quite unbelievable to see how many Downers, now greatly esteemed for their eloquence, used to type things as lol and u every once in a while (I shan't name names). And ha - he might hate me forever for this - but the guy who be short was so cute! 6) When you start writing posts like these, just to have something to say even though you are too weary to make much sense. 7) When a 'Downers MSN group' and 'Downs Time' sound strangely appealing. I'm sure there are more points to come some other day. -- P.S. I know, I know. I cringe when I read some of my earlier posts as well. P.P.S. I am clearly guilty of all the above, with the possible exception of the first since I just saw it isn't actually called werewolves, but plain wolves. P.P.P.S. Quote:

Bewildering, but a distinct lack of hatred. I also remember having something of an aversion to capital letters. You know you're obsessed when you have recurring BDs dreams. Well, the dreams don't recur, but the BDs theme does. | |

When you spend a lot of your time messing with Lord of the Rings related pictures and editing them for amusement with he sole purpose of posting them on the Downs. OR Whenever you see snoopy on the Television you feel inclined to say "Wow, Eomer!"

Okay, I got some! You are here for more than four hours... Your mom or husband or whoever you have always assummes where you are on the internet. They have gone accustomed to you talking about certain people on here... If you go somewhere else, ( huh, me??? ) then you hear the explitave," The world is coming to an end!!!." and very oh-so- tentavily correct them that "Arda is coming to an end." People who see what your Christmas tree looks like politely offer to buy you another one. The only friends you now have know about this site. K |
