You have a panic attack when some technical glitch means you can see the Downs but not post or read PMs. It happened this lunchtime but I don't know if the problem was with the computer I was using or the site. My hotmail inbox disappeared too..

Thumbs up This actualy happened!!!

When you are walking around town and see someone in a large Snoopy costume and cry out (a little too loudly) "Its Eomer of the Rohirrim!"
I then had to explain to a friend of mine what I meant.

When five years after hating a book with passion, you read it - and actually enjoy it. Or them, for that matter. And one of the reasons you even considered reading them is to be able to understand an RPG character. This is partly your fault, Anguirel.

Mwahahaha! Gotcha Glad you enjoyed it though.

I'd say have the 'Downs as first port of call on a procrastination spree is a good sign of addiction.

Thumbs up I know this joke is getting REALLY old now...

You are defiantly addicted to the mirth part of these good forums when you can't help but laugh heartily at this part of The Lord of the Rings films:

Top Ten Signs You're Addicted to Werewolf

18 days from playing in a ww-game and 10 from modding one... And you alredy feel that something important is missing from your life and you enviously stalk other people's game and read thorugh who has signed in an upcoming game.

And it will maybe take nearly two months 'til I get to werewolf again... I don't even wan't to know what is my mental condition like then...

The Barrow-downs and Barrowdowners have influenced in decisions or directly caused me to try:

Terry Pratchett
Neil Gaiman
marmite
MySpace
Xanga
MSN, Yahoo, AIM

Thanks to the Barrowdowns, I'm never leaving the house again, which was my aim all along.

You think of World Cup teams in terms of their Downer supporters... i.e., England is Sauce, Germany is Esty, Brazil is Morm, etc.

When you set up elaborate e-mail contingency plans with other members to keep you informed about Downs happenings on the chance that you won't be able to access the forum for a while.

You can help hysterical laughing when you read the following passage from LotR:
Quote:
Gandalf's eyes flashed. 'It will be my time to get angry soon', he said. 'If you say that again, I shall. Then you will see Gandalf the Grey uncloaked.' He took a step towards the hobbit, and he seemed to grow tall and menacing; his shadow filled the little room.
But it's translated to Finnish: "Then you will see Gandalf the Grey face to face." and that's not half as funny as the English one...

You're addicted...

...when your best friends are 'Downers you've never met.

...when the love of your life is a 'Downer you'd never met. (coughlalwendeanddavemcough)

...when you go away on vacation without internet access for a weekend, and you can't stop thinking that you should've posted that brilliant crazy caption before you left, because while you're away someone will either take your caption or change the picture!

Okay, so maybe that last one is just paranoia.

Ah, but seeing Gandalf face to face while he's uncloaked... that must be something.

You're addicted to the Barrow-Downs when you clean your desk and everywhere you look, you find pieces of paper, envelopes, old magazines and whatnot filled with scribblings such as LotR p. 615, Isildur IIIII I, #340 or Gurthang -> Nonnacedak. (I just recently found my notes from WW2. It was pretty cute. )

Not so Lhuna. I've been the only member here a few times. Try coming online at 2am GMT, it's like a graveyard.

You know you're addicted to the Downs when your mum has been tidying up all round the computer and there is now a whole box full of various pieces of paper with notes from WW games, or Palantir quotes, or just general random information that you can barely remember the use of!

You know you're addicted to the Downs, when your variable piles of A4-papers (I'm not sure, whether this is an international standard, but I think so) that should be your working papers, come up, time after time, infected with sheets of a RPG or WW copies - with all those addenda, made by a ballpoint pen, sometimes being so small (because of the lack of free space), that you can't read them anymore...

and also:

You know you're addicted to the Downs, when you find out, that after being killed in a WW, the RPG having a stalemate and in the GD you are waiting for an answer, you just wonder, that you have so much work to do in so little time (RL) - and kind of wonder, how did you manage, when you were playing the WW, when you were due a post to the RPG and the GD just called for your post...

So much fun, I say, being addicted.

.

Does give a rather wierd mental image considering that normally Gandalf is twice the size of a hobbit - maybe uncloaking makes him shrink..

Oh, and, when you read a book and the whole way through misread the main characters name as Cailín rather than Carlin every time, and only realise the mistake when someone else is talking about Carlin and you have no idea who they mean!
