NightKnight
04-15-2004, 03:25 PM
Sure!

Lindolirian
04-16-2004, 09:09 PM
Ah, one of my favorites of the First Age :D ... What exactly was the Mereth Aderthad and who all was there?

NightKnight
04-17-2004, 03:57 AM
It was a feast held by Fingolfin, and I think most noldor were there, but only Maedhros and Maglor of Fëanor's sons, plus a bunch of sindar.

Lindolirian
04-17-2004, 12:59 PM
Yeah, I was there too, but ole JRR left me out of the story cause all I did was cook the food... ;)

NightKnight
04-18-2004, 04:04 AM
What city was connected to the river Nenning?

Lindolirian
04-18-2004, 12:11 PM
The Haven of Eglarest.

NightKnight
04-18-2004, 12:15 PM
Yup.

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 02:49 PM
Who told Maeglin that Elenwë died in the Helcaraxë?

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 02:51 PM
Must have been Aredhel.

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 02:55 PM
Yeah, who else? Doesn't seem like anyone else talk to that guy, 'cept Morgoth of course...

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 02:58 PM
Yeah, tough luck. And when he tried to talk to Idril Tuor came and threw him off a cliff. :p

Anyway, which of Fëanor's sons died in the attack on the elves at the Mouth of Sirion?

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:04 PM
Yeah drat that Tuor, he only wanted to chat a bitsy. Anyway...
Amrod and Amras, the twinses.

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:06 PM
It was them. I actually used Amrod as the name of the main character in a story I wrote. :p

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:09 PM
Eh, good name. What's the Adunaic name for the boat from which a guy smashed some mountains with a big lizard?

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:13 PM
Rothinzil. Big lizard, eh?

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:19 PM
Well yeah big lizard, dragon, its close. And sounds pretty funny too. But you are correct, of course.

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:22 PM
Yeah, I guess dragons are just big lizards with wings and fire.

Well well... Who was the father of he that "started" Tears Unnumbered?

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:25 PM
Guilin father of Gelmir. Gelmir was tortured in front of his brother Gwindor, who launched the first offensive of that battle.

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:26 PM
Yup. Poor Gwindor. I think I would have reacted in the same way if my brother was tortured and killed in front of me.

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:47 PM
What did Huan bring to Luthien after he chased off Celegorm and Curufin?

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:48 PM
Some kind of healing herb.

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:50 PM
Yup, I bet it was actually tobacco...

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:57 PM
Hmm, either that or something very illegal. Maybe that was why they thought they could just walk into Angband and steal a silmaril?

How old was Bëor when he died?

Arvedui III
04-19-2004, 04:34 PM
He was 93, I believe.

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 04:38 PM
Yes he was.

Arvedui III
04-19-2004, 04:46 PM
On the subject of Beor, what was his original name among his people?

NightKnight
04-20-2004, 01:26 PM
Balan.

Lindolirian
05-02-2004, 07:52 PM
The ten days are up, so I'd say it's your thread, NightKnight. :D

NightKnight
05-03-2004, 12:26 AM
Yeah, I think so too. :D

How many of Finwë's grandchildren were alive at the end of the First Age?

Fingolfin II
05-03-2004, 01:06 AM
2- Maglor and Galadriel. Three if you count Finrod's reimbodiment.

NightKnight
05-03-2004, 05:37 AM
Yeah. I'm not sure if you could count Maedhros as well, but whatever. Go ahead. :)

Fingolfin II
05-04-2004, 01:29 AM
Cheers, ok, how many Elves died fighting Balrogs during the First Age?

Thorongil
05-04-2004, 05:36 AM
Hmmm, a few thousand? Or do you mean named people? I can think of three.

NightKnight
05-04-2004, 06:23 AM
I know five, Fëanor, Fingon, Rog, Ecthelion and Glorfindel. And there was another one in Gondolin, but I can't remember his name. (He was leader of one of the Houses, and was hit by a firebolt from the balrogs.) Oh, and also Rog's people, lots of them. All I can think of.

Fingolfin II
05-05-2004, 02:00 AM
Yeah, I meant name them. NightKnight got 5, so he's up.

NightKnight
05-05-2004, 02:13 PM
And as always, I keep thinking up great questions for this thread, but I always forget them. :D

Uhm...name all the people who owned silmarils during the first age.

Lindolirian
05-05-2004, 02:37 PM
If you mean "First Age" as in after the rising of the first sun, then it would be:
Morgoth, Beren/Luthien, Carcaroth, (Mablung), Thingol, Dwarves of Belegost, Dior, Elwing, Earendil, Eonwë, Maedhros, and Maglor. If you mean anytime before the Second Age, you would have to add in Fëanor.

NightKnight
05-06-2004, 01:31 AM
I meant First Age, so you are absolutely correct. :)

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 08:04 AM
Who was the first man to see Belegaer?

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 09:24 AM
Tuor?

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 03:41 PM
Sure thing.

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 03:54 PM
When Fëanor's sons attacked the elven settlement at the Mouths of Sirion, elves from five cities lived there. Which?

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 03:56 PM
Brithombar, Egalrest, Nargothrond, Gondolin, and Menegroth.

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 03:57 PM
Yes.

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 04:03 PM
To whom did Mîm refuse to give his "earth-bread"?

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 04:04 PM
Turin?

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 04:06 PM
Nope.

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 04:13 PM
Hmm...Beleg then?

Lindolirian
05-13-2004, 09:22 PM
Umm well I don't know, but the one I'm thinking of Mîm specifically told him he wasn't gonna feed him.

symestreem
05-14-2004, 05:20 AM
The one who killed Khim. Given a name in the Narn i Nin Hurin, I believe, but I don't know it.

Firefoot
05-14-2004, 02:21 PM
Ulrad.

Lindolirian
05-14-2004, 05:57 PM
That's the fellow, Firefoot!

Firefoot
05-15-2004, 07:15 AM
Thanks. List 6 other names for Túrin.

symestreem
05-15-2004, 07:42 AM
Turambar, Gorgol, Neithan, Mormegil, Agarwaen, Wildman of the Woods.

Firefoot
05-15-2004, 07:31 PM
Yes. And congrats on your Ghost Princedom. :)

symestreem
05-16-2004, 10:57 AM
Thanks, Firefoot.
Who predicted that the Stone of the Hapless should never be thrown down? Whose bodies are in the Stone of the Hapless?

NightKnight
05-16-2004, 12:53 PM
Glirhuin; Morwen, Turin and (Nienor).

symestreem
05-16-2004, 02:26 PM
Oui.

NightKnight
05-16-2004, 03:19 PM
French...that is over my ability. :p

Where was Boromir lord?

Firefoot
05-16-2004, 03:21 PM
Ladros.

NightKnight
05-16-2004, 03:23 PM

Firefoot
05-16-2004, 03:34 PM
Who did Brandir say he hated?

NightKnight
05-16-2004, 03:37 PM
Turambar?

Firefoot
05-16-2004, 04:24 PM
Nope.

Fingolfin II
05-17-2004, 01:40 AM
Dorlas?

NightKnight
05-17-2004, 07:10 AM
Himself?

Firefoot
05-17-2004, 01:58 PM
Fingolfin has it.

Fingolfin II
05-19-2004, 02:33 AM
Cheers Firefoot.

How many High Kings of the Noldor were there in the First Age and who were they?

Thorongil
05-19-2004, 02:40 AM
Ummm, Fingolfin, Fingon, Turgon, & Gil-galad are those that I can think of, so...4?

Fingolfin II
05-20-2004, 01:19 AM
Exactly right. I'm not sure if you could call Feanor High King, though you forgot to mention Finarfin. However, since he was only HK of the Noldor in Aman your answer's good enough for me :).

Fingolfin II
05-29-2004, 07:54 PM
Thorongil?

Thorongil
05-30-2004, 04:28 AM
How many Houses of Men from the First Age is mentioned by name?

NightKnight
05-30-2004, 04:46 AM
Five, I believe: Bëor, Haleth, Hador, Bor and Ulfang.

Thorongil
06-01-2004, 03:03 AM
Exellent.

NightKnight
06-01-2004, 08:35 AM
What did the first men call Finrod Felagund?

Lindolirian
06-01-2004, 10:44 AM
Nom which means "wisdom".

NightKnight
06-02-2004, 09:58 AM
Yeap.

Lindolirian
06-04-2004, 12:17 PM
Who was Annael?

Elwe Singollo
06-04-2004, 12:21 PM
The foster father of Turin. He was a Sindarin Elf

Firefoot
06-04-2004, 12:44 PM
A Sindarin Elf who was the fosterfather of Tuor.

Lindolirian
06-06-2004, 01:28 PM
Firefoot is right, he was the foster-father of Tuor not Turin.

Firefoot
06-11-2004, 12:06 PM
What are the Elvish names of the second, third, fourth, and fifth Battles of Beleriand, and their translations?

Lindolirian
06-11-2004, 12:30 PM
Dagor-nuin-Giliath: Battle Under the Stars
Dagor Aglareb: Glorious Battle
Dagor Bragollach: Battle of Sudden Flame
Nirnaeth Arnoediad: Battle of Unnumbered Tears

Firefoot
06-11-2004, 01:15 PM
Yep.

Lindolirian
06-13-2004, 05:40 PM
Name the three mariners who accompanied Eärendil on his vogages.

NightKnight
06-13-2004, 05:51 PM
Falathar, Erellont and Aerandir.

Lindolirian
06-13-2004, 05:52 PM
Of course. :D

NightKnight
06-13-2004, 05:54 PM
Why was Amon Rûdh called Bar-en-Danwedh?

Lindolirian
06-13-2004, 05:57 PM
It was called the House of Ransom originally because Mim was saving his own life by showing Turin and his band the way in. But when they learned that Khim, Mim's son had died, Turin said, "Now, Bar-en-Danwedh this house shall be called in truth..."

NightKnight
06-13-2004, 05:59 PM
Yup. :D

Lindolirian
06-13-2004, 06:05 PM
What awakened Turin out of his madness after he slew Beleg?

Carnimírië
06-13-2004, 11:02 PM
Drinking the water at the pool of Ivrin?

Lindolirian
06-14-2004, 09:58 AM
That's it!

Carnimírië
06-14-2004, 10:33 AM
Sooo, I get to ask the next question? Ok, what was the name of the precipice from which Eol was cast down for his execution?

NightKnight
06-14-2004, 10:57 AM
Caragdur?

Carnimírië
06-14-2004, 11:41 AM
Right you are, Knight.

NightKnight
06-14-2004, 01:37 PM
Who was Hendor?

Carnimírië
06-14-2004, 01:45 PM
One of Idril's servants who carried Earendel from Gondolin ( I don't own the Book of Lost Tales, lucky for me that I checked them out of the library :) )

NightKnight
06-14-2004, 07:24 PM
Yup, that's him. :)

Carnimírië
06-14-2004, 07:45 PM
Who is the Maia that guides Isil?

Son of Númenor
06-14-2004, 08:08 PM
That'd be Tilion.

Carnimírië
06-14-2004, 08:21 PM
Right.

Son of Númenor
06-27-2004, 09:19 AM
Give two reasons why Melkor was named Morgoth.

Fingolfin II
06-27-2004, 06:05 PM
TWO reasons!

1- Because Feanor called him 'Morgoth', or the Black Foe of the World, after he found out that Morgoth stole the Silmarils and killed his father Finwe.

2- Because Morgoth was a very bad person who had a black heart and was detested by everyone, even his own servants/slaves?

The first one was obvious, I'm not so sure about the second though .

Son of Númenor
06-28-2004, 05:56 PM
Take the reins, Fingolfin II. :smokin:

Fingolfin II
06-28-2004, 09:34 PM
Cheers, Son of Numenor.

Name 5 dwarves who died in the First Age.

NightKnight
06-29-2004, 05:28 AM
Azaghal, Mim, Khim, Ibun and the king of Nogrod (don't remember if he had a name, but he was killed by Beren in the tale of Nauglafring).

Fingolfin II
06-29-2004, 06:56 PM
Good enough for me!

NightKnight
06-30-2004, 04:47 AM
I suspected that after I had posted my answer. :p

What was Gar Ainion?

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-01-2004, 12:10 AM
The Place of the Gods, where Tuor and Idril were married - in Lost Tales.

NightKnight
07-08-2004, 11:14 AM
Yeppers. Your turn.

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-08-2004, 08:33 PM
So, the vale where Gondolin stood was long ago filled with what?

Gil-Galad
07-08-2004, 08:49 PM
probaly Air, then rocks, then water

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-08-2004, 09:18 PM
But let's change the wording...

...the vale [where Gondolin stood] had been a great ____ in ancient days.

There. Fill in the blank.

Gil-Galad
07-08-2004, 09:23 PM
"A big rock" was in the middle, surrounded by fields of Grass but in ancient days a great Lake from the Vales of Sirion

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-08-2004, 09:28 PM
Check the Silm, especially the beginning part of Chapter 15.

Thorongil
07-09-2004, 05:35 AM
Lake?

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-09-2004, 08:30 PM
Carry on.

Thorongil
07-24-2004, 07:08 PM
An easy one in the lack of a better question...

How long was the First Age?

Gil-Galad
07-24-2004, 07:51 PM
First Age of what? the stars? the trees? the sun?

Thorongil
07-25-2004, 05:31 AM
The first age were asking questions about. Right before Second Age.

Nice edit to the sig.

Gil-Galad
07-25-2004, 11:04 AM
strange how i can't find it...the thing i'm looking at it says the Second age starts at 0...Sinking of Beleriand is at 40 years...Numenor 32...

yeah thanks, with our little discussion i remembered it, and since this is a dead zone, i would think it'll be best to be place here...

The Perky Ent
07-25-2004, 12:08 PM
I think the first age lasted for 583 years. That was short :D

Thorongil
07-26-2004, 02:31 AM
You're right, but personally I wouldn't call 583 years short.

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-28-2004, 09:51 PM
Perks?

The Perky Ent
07-29-2004, 10:41 AM
Compare it to the Third Age, Thorongil! That's a 3,000 year difference ;) Anyways, how many High Kings of the Noldor died in the First Age?

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-29-2004, 08:15 PM
No, wait, I was talking to Perks' avvie. Nice, but now I confuse you with Son of Númenor.

Anywhen, four High Kings of the Noldor died during the First Age - of the Sun, that it.

The Perky Ent
07-29-2004, 09:42 PM
Yep! Feanor, Fingolfin, Fingon, Turgon! BTW, Hobbes looks to the skies! lol Yeah, Son of Numenor and I have very similar avatars! But Hobbes is worth it!

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-29-2004, 09:52 PM
Now, who lives in Taur-im-Duinath?

Firefoot
07-30-2004, 06:45 AM
No one.

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-30-2004, 09:16 PM
Someone does! :p

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-04-2004, 11:23 PM
It's in Quenta Silmarillion, Chapter 14.

Gil-Galad
08-05-2004, 10:26 AM
Sauron?

luthien-elvenprincess
08-05-2004, 06:04 PM
After the incredibily obvious clue :p , I will answer 'a few Dark Elves'!

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-06-2004, 12:00 AM
luthien-elvenprincess, after the obviously correct answer :p , I'll say the thread is yours. ;)

luthien-elvenprincess
08-07-2004, 02:14 PM
What was Fingolfin's blue shield set with?

Gil-Galad
08-07-2004, 04:50 PM
Wasn't it his Helm and Sword, Ringil?

luthien-elvenprincess
08-07-2004, 05:49 PM
nope

Firefoot
08-07-2004, 08:07 PM
Crystals.

luthien-elvenprincess
08-08-2004, 07:10 AM
Correct, Firefoot!

Firefoot
08-08-2004, 08:46 AM
Who was the Captain of the Guard at the outer gate of Gondolin?

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-09-2004, 12:20 AM
Elemmakil?

Firefoot
08-09-2004, 06:21 AM
Yup.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-10-2004, 10:40 PM
What does the epessë of the first wife of Finwë mean?

NightKnight
08-11-2004, 02:24 AM
Serinde = Broideress.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-11-2004, 11:03 PM
Your play.

NightKnight
08-12-2004, 02:38 AM
With what event did the First Age start?

Rimbaud
08-12-2004, 03:54 AM
The Return of the Noldor to Middle Earth.

NightKnight
08-12-2004, 12:32 PM
Not really. That just happened to happen at the same time.

Rimbaud
08-12-2004, 02:04 PM
I'll stand by my answer. You could mean Dagor-nuin-Giliath, of course, but that battle was entirely dependent on Feanor's return, thus also rendering my initial answer correct. Or you could mean the Awakening of Men, in Hildorien. However, as this is hardly so clearly a defined occurence as the Return, again I'll stick to my initial answer. :)

Estanesse
08-12-2004, 03:17 PM
The first moonrise

Gil-Galad
08-12-2004, 03:24 PM
When the Sun and the Moon were destined to cross the sky, or rather began it

NightKnight
08-12-2004, 06:09 PM
The moonrise is what I had in mind. Your turn, Estanesse.

Estanesse
08-18-2004, 09:37 AM
An easy one, who killed Khîm.

Firefoot
08-18-2004, 09:41 AM
Andróg.

Estanesse
08-18-2004, 10:02 AM
That’s correct carry on

Firefoot
08-18-2004, 10:14 AM
For what price did Gorlim trade news of Barahir's band with Sauron?

NightKnight
08-18-2004, 01:25 PM
Meeting his wife.

Firefoot
08-18-2004, 01:49 PM
Not quite.

luthien-elvenprincess
08-19-2004, 03:35 PM
To find his wife and to be set free with her.

Firefoot
08-19-2004, 04:01 PM
Good.

luthien-elvenprincess
08-22-2004, 08:04 AM
Probably an easy one:

How many wounds did Morgoth receive from Fingolfin?

The Perky Ent
08-22-2004, 08:55 AM
7?

luthien-elvenprincess
08-24-2004, 03:49 AM
no

NightKnight
08-24-2004, 05:46 AM
8?

luthien-elvenprincess
08-25-2004, 04:24 AM
correct, Nightknight.

NightKnight
08-25-2004, 09:13 AM
Seven during the battle and then one last blow, if I remember correctly.

Where is the giant Gilim mentioned?

InklingElf
08-25-2004, 03:10 PM
I believe Gilim is mentioned in the Lay of Leithian:

"Names she sought,
and sang of Glend the sword of Nan;
of Gilim the giant of Eruman;
and last and longest named she <then>,
the endless hair of Uinen." ("Lay of Leithian" 1495-1499, LB)

NightKnight
08-25-2004, 03:17 PM
Absolutely! I'm currently reading it, and it's great! :)

And now, I hand over the thread to you. :)

InklingElf
08-25-2004, 03:28 PM
Thank you Sir Knight I hope you're enjoying it as I have :)

Next question:
After Turgon, who is acclaimed as the bravest warrior of Gondolin?

NightKnight
08-25-2004, 03:31 PM
It was Galdor of the Tree.

InklingElf
08-25-2004, 03:34 PM
Correct! Your turn.

NightKnight
08-25-2004, 03:37 PM
Who were in the Great Wolf Hunt?

InklingElf
08-25-2004, 03:46 PM
King Thingol set out to hunt the wolf Carcaroth with the greatest of his warriors:
Mablung
Beleg
Beren Erchamion
and Huan the Hound of Valinor.

NightKnight
08-25-2004, 03:50 PM
Yup, he did. And both Beren and Huan died. Please carry on. :)

InklingElf
08-25-2004, 03:54 PM
I think we're on a roll Knight! I really wish Huan lived....

In what year of the First Age was Dior Aranel born and where?

NightKnight
08-26-2004, 12:22 AM

InklingElf
08-28-2004, 09:32 PM
I was thinking 470 but I'll accept it -- and Tol Galen is correct.

You may go on :)

Why did Finrod Felagund learn the language of Beor's people so quickly?

luthien-elvenprincess
08-29-2004, 07:37 AM
Because he could read in the minds of Men such thoughts that they wished to reveal in speech, so that their words were easily interpreted.

NightKnight
08-29-2004, 10:31 AM
Precisely. :)

luthien-elvenprincess
08-30-2004, 09:47 PM
Where did the pearls come from that Thingol used to reward the dwarves who helped build Menegroth?

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-30-2004, 11:50 PM
The Bay of Balar.

luthien-elvenprincess
09-01-2004, 07:42 PM
Yes indeed.

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-01-2004, 11:55 PM
What First Age Elf-Kingdom survived the longest?

NightKnight
09-02-2004, 12:47 AM
As in the longest time total? Doriath?

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-02-2004, 01:00 AM
Your turn. :)

NightKnight
09-03-2004, 12:54 PM
What was close to giving Morgoth the victory in the War of Wrath?

Gil-Galad
09-03-2004, 04:48 PM
When he destroyed all of the elf kingdoms...

NightKnight
09-04-2004, 05:45 AM
Nope.

luthien-elvenprincess
09-04-2004, 06:02 AM
When he released the winged dragons from Angband?

NightKnight
09-05-2004, 03:36 AM
Exactly! But then came Eärendil and the eagles and turned the tide. :p Please continue. :)

luthien-elvenprincess
09-05-2004, 03:26 PM
What abode where the sorcery of Sauron and the power of Melian came together?

NightKnight
09-06-2004, 01:24 PM
Big, scary spiders, in Nan Dungortheb.

luthien-elvenprincess
09-06-2004, 06:41 PM
Yes, you are right, Nightknight

NightKnight
09-07-2004, 08:39 AM
Thank you. :)

What big event occured in the year 455?

luthien-elvenprincess
09-07-2004, 05:32 PM
Dagor Bragollach, perhaps?

NightKnight
09-08-2004, 05:22 AM
Yupses. :)

luthien-elvenprincess
09-08-2004, 08:46 PM
What craft did Maeglin love above all others?

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-08-2004, 08:50 PM
Smithcraft and mining?

luthien-elvenprincess
09-11-2004, 08:51 AM
correct!

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-12-2004, 11:42 PM
Who was the father of Gorlim the Unhappy.

NightKnight
09-12-2004, 11:50 PM
It was Angrim.

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-13-2004, 12:18 AM
Your thread. :)

NightKnight
09-13-2004, 05:46 AM
Oohh... a thread! :D

Who killed Celegorm?

Gil-Galad
09-13-2004, 07:18 AM
Dior i beleive, in the SoF attack on Doriath...

NightKnight
09-13-2004, 11:50 AM
Yup.

Gil-Galad
09-13-2004, 04:26 PM

NightKnight
09-15-2004, 10:06 AM

Who, except Beren, was held captive by Tevildo?

Nanedhel
09-19-2004, 09:26 PM
Tinuviel was held captive by Tevildo, prince of cats, when she went to rescue Beren.

Lindolirian
09-20-2004, 07:46 AM
Also Gimli who was an elderly looking Gnome...;)

NightKnight
09-20-2004, 09:42 AM
Nanedhel, she wasn't really his prisoner. Gimli, however, was. So that means it's Lindo's turn. But since he's not on much, you can go Nanedhel.

Nanedhel
09-20-2004, 04:37 PM
OK, I'll have a go.

What was the first light in Valinor after the death of the two trees?

Gil-Galad
09-21-2004, 07:21 AM
The Stars i beleive, but there were also the Silmarils, which were made during the Two Trees so i'll say STars

NightKnight
09-21-2004, 12:33 PM
The sparks of Oromë's horse Nahar.

Nanedhel
09-21-2004, 04:16 PM
NightKnight has it.

The the pursuit was begun; and the earth shook beheath the horses of the host of Oromé, and the fire that was stricken from the hooves of Nahar was the first light that returned to Valinor.

NightKnight

Why did Turgon have a scarlet heart on his banner?

Lindolirian
09-22-2004, 03:39 PM
You were quite right to go on without me there. I had an extra minute or two in study hall and came here to see how things were doing. I just couldn't resist answering the question, but I should have, since today was the first time I've thought of it since then. Ah... silly me. And now I must resist answering this one for the same reason. Blast!

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-23-2004, 01:03 AM
Because he cut out the heart of his father, Finwë Nólemë, after his death in the Battle of the Unnumbered Tears.

NightKnight
09-23-2004, 10:52 AM
Very close, but not quite it.

Nanedhel
10-14-2004, 07:10 PM
During the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, Turgon recovered the body of his father, Nólemë (Finwë), including his heart, which had been cut out by Orcs. His father's heart became his emblem.

NightKnight
10-17-2004, 08:51 AM
Perfect!

Nanedhel
10-17-2004, 09:27 AM
Who feared neither sword nor knife nor scimitar, no dart of bow, nor cast of spear, master or man?

Lindolirian
10-17-2004, 01:14 PM
Huan

Nanedhel
10-17-2004, 06:11 PM
You are right, Lindolirian

Lindolirian
10-17-2004, 08:49 PM
Who were the last casualties in the War of the Jewels?

NightKnight
10-18-2004, 05:22 AM
Maedhros (and Maglor)?

Lindolirian
10-19-2004, 02:15 PM
Not really, since he killed himself.

Gil-Galad
10-19-2004, 06:25 PM
probaly will be the casualties in the War of the Wrath

Lindolirian
10-19-2004, 06:59 PM
Close, but technically that was over by the time these ones were killed.

luthien-elvenprincess
10-19-2004, 07:44 PM
The guards at the camp of Eonwe.

Lindolirian
10-19-2004, 08:34 PM
That's it!

luthien-elvenprincess
10-25-2004, 04:36 PM
Ohhh, missed this thread for a while. Here goes...

What did Luthien see as a white light starting from a green jewel?

NightKnight
10-26-2004, 05:11 AM
The Silmaril?

luthien-elvenprincess
10-26-2004, 03:12 PM
nope

luthien-elvenprincess
10-31-2004, 07:47 AM
Another clue perhaps...Luthien had to look down to see this 'white light starting from a green jewel'.

Lindolirian
10-31-2004, 12:49 PM
O! That did it for me. Gondolin! Why couldn't I think of it before?

luthien-elvenprincess
11-02-2004, 06:22 PM
Correct!

Lindolirian
11-02-2004, 07:36 PM
What are the seven names of the previous answer?

luthien-elvenprincess
11-03-2004, 03:49 AM
Then said Tuor: “What be those names?” And the chief of the Guard made answer: “ ‘Tis said and ‘tis sung: ‘Gondobar am I called and Gondothlimbar, City of Stone and City of the Dwellers in Stone; Gondolin the Stone of Song and Gwarestrin am I named, the Tower of the Guard, Gar Thurion or the Secret Place, for I am hidden from the eyes of Melko; but they who love me most greatly call me Loth, for like the flower am I, even Lothengriol the flower that blooms on the plain.’ Yet,” said he, “in our daily speech we speak and we name it mostly Gondolin.”

Lindolirian
11-03-2004, 04:55 PM
Erm.. well yeah, I'll take it. :)

luthien-elvenprincess
11-04-2004, 05:03 PM
Somehow I expected more enthusiasm for a quoted answer :p But, I'll take it :D

Why did Ulmo and Tulkas obey Manwe's judgement concerning Melkor?

Lindolirian
11-04-2004, 08:34 PM
Because those who defend authority from rebellion must not themselves rebel.
Not in quotes, cause its from memory and I don't know if it's verbatim. ;)

My lack of enthusiasm was because I wasn't expecting the HoME version, but since I didn't specify, I gave it to you. :p

luthien-elvenprincess
11-05-2004, 07:06 AM
You got it, Lindolirian!

luthien-elvenprincess
11-15-2004, 09:16 AM
yoo-hoo, Lindo :p

Lindolirian
11-17-2004, 07:23 AM
I'm sorry, I totally forgot about this thread!
Who built the hall beneath Mt. Taras?

Nilpaurion Felagund
11-18-2004, 01:09 AM
Turgon?

Lindolirian
11-18-2004, 10:12 AM
Turgon it was!
