Well, I suppose rules are in order first off. This is stricktly FotR movie quotes. If a new quote isn't given in 10 days, anyone can give the next one to keep the game rolling. Lets try to keep these full & unbroken quotes, no elipses points, you can give a partial quote if it stands well by itself. The correct guesser will give the next quote to be anwered, once recognized by the giver of the quote. Hints can be asked for, but the giver of the quote doesn't have to give a hint if he/she thinks it is unneccesary, or if he/she thinks that there hasn't been enough guesses to warrant a hint yet ;). No quotes in Elvish, please :p.

Here's mine:
"They're close!"
Who said it, to whom, & where?

Mariska Greenleaf
07-09-2003, 12:49 AM
In the mines of Moria,
Gandalf to the other members of the fellowship?

The Only Real Estel
07-09-2003, 08:22 PM
Mariska Greenleaf: Nope. smilies/cool.gif

Silmiel of Imladris
07-09-2003, 10:46 PM
I know for sure that it is in the scene where they are looking for the athelas plant for Frodo. Only I can't remeber what hobbit says it so I will take a guess. I think it is Merry that says "They're close!" to the other hobbits and Aragorn refering to the Nazgul.

The Only Real Estel
07-10-2003, 03:57 PM
Silmiel of Imladris: Correct. It was Merry to the others at the time near to Weathertop. Ask away... smilies/cool.gif

Silmiel of Imladris
07-10-2003, 10:28 PM
I don't know if this is a really tough one but here goes:

"For the Shire!" Who said it and when?

The Only Real Estel
07-11-2003, 10:02 AM
Pippin to Borimir near Caradhas in the 'crowbine' scene. smilies/cool.gif

Silmiel of Imladris
07-11-2003, 09:42 PM
Not bad. I have to find harder ones next time. Your turn. smilies/wink.gif

Been gone for a few days (sorry), here's my quote ( an easy one ):
"Neither do I!"

Faye Took
07-16-2003, 08:18 PM
Gandalf to Frodo at Bag End while they are talking about the ring! smilies/biggrin.gif

Gandalf to Frodo in Moria?

The Only Real Estel
07-17-2003, 02:35 PM
Faye Took: Correct. I thought it was a bit to easy. But anyhoo, ask away! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/cool.gif

Faye Took
07-17-2003, 02:54 PM
Alright! Go me smilies/biggrin.gif . Anyways, this one should be easy but maybe kind of hard.

Hold these.

Luthien_ Tinuviel
07-17-2003, 07:03 PM
Isn't that Aragorn to the hobbits when Arwen offers to take Frodo? He hands the torches to them and walks over to debate with her over who should go.

Faye Took
07-17-2003, 09:01 PM
Nope! Good try though Luthien_Tinuviel! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/cool.gif

Eressië Ailin
07-17-2003, 10:52 PM
Merry to Sam about some cabbages in the "Shortcut to the Mushrooms" scene.

The Only Real Estel
07-19-2003, 03:47 PM
Ughh, I just returned from a short absense to see Eressië Ailin give the correct answer ahead of me. Unless I'm WAY of base, you will be next, although only Faye Took can confirm that...
smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/cool.gif

Faye Took
07-21-2003, 12:38 AM
You are right Eressië Ailin! The Only Real Estel was correct that you were right. Sorry about my absense. I had to go to Oregon for the weekend. Your turn Eressië Ailin! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/cool.gif

Eressië Ailin
07-21-2003, 10:28 AM
Gentlemen.

The Only Real Estel
07-21-2003, 10:36 AM
Aragorn to Merry, Pippin, Frodo & Sam regarding ANOTHER stop for breakfast? (Near the Midgewater Marshes I think they were called) smilies/cool.gif

Eressië Ailin
07-21-2003, 11:59 AM
That was fast... Go ahead, The Only Real Estel.

The Only Real Estel
07-21-2003, 09:02 PM
Eressie Aillen: In the right place at the right time I guess...Here's mine, I guess I'll have to keep sticking to easy ones until I can come up with some good ones: Get down!

Meneltarmacil
07-21-2003, 09:43 PM
Pippin to the rest of the Hobbits when they are fleeing the Nazgul? (or it might have been Merry...but I think it was Pippin.)

Eressië Ailin
07-21-2003, 11:42 PM
It could be what Meneltarmacil said, or maybe Gandalf to Frodo when he heard Sam outside the window at the beginning of the movie. Though I'm assuming that the former is correct, since you have the exclaimation mark there.

The Only Real Estel
07-22-2003, 12:35 PM
Dooh! Sorry, I forgot it was used twice in the movie smilies/frown.gif. I was talking about a different one though, with Meneltarmacil being the closest. Keep guessing & I'll try not to do that again! (Eressië Ailin: Gandalf DOES say that to Frodo at the 'eavesdropping part', but that wasn't particularly what I was thinking of...)
smilies/cool.gif

Luthien_ Tinuviel
07-22-2003, 04:34 PM
Isn't it Sam to the rest of the hobbits when they are being followed by the Nazgul?

The Only Real Estel
07-22-2003, 04:52 PM
Luthien_Tinuviel: Correct (Meneltarmacil: Sam sounds like Pippin in that particular scene, but I'm sure it's Sam). Ask away...

Have you ever seen it?

I know, it's an easy one. Oh well. smilies/smile.gif

Eressië Ailin
07-23-2003, 06:00 PM
Boromir to Aragorn in Lothlorien about the White Tower of Ecthelion.

Yes, it was easy, lol.

Luthien_ Tinuviel
07-23-2003, 06:11 PM
Incredibly easy. I couldn't think of a really hard one. Now that it's your turn, perhaps you can provide us with a more difficult quote. smilies/smile.gif

Eressië Ailin
07-23-2003, 06:18 PM
This one isn't terribly difficult, in fact it's rather easy.

My own.

The Only Real Estel
07-23-2003, 06:27 PM
Bilbp to Gandalf at Bag End regarding 'his' Ring?

Eressië Ailin
07-23-2003, 08:02 PM
Yes... Easier that I thought... go ahead.

The Only Real Estel
07-24-2003, 08:48 AM
ANOTHER easy one (sorry but my brain just turns to oatmeal whenever I try to think of a hard one! smilies/rolleyes.gif ): "Ah!" Hint: This isn't just a gasp, or something like Gimli's "oooh" in Moria when he sees Dwalendelf. If you guys think it was used to many times, just tell me, but I think it was only used once. smilies/cool.gif

Mariska Greenleaf
07-24-2003, 09:24 AM
Well, I'm not sure that this is what you're looking for, but Sam said something like that when he interrupted the secret counsel of Elrond and came out of the bushes...

The Only Real Estel
07-24-2003, 11:55 AM
Sorry, no. I think he said, "Here!" smilies/cool.gif

07-24-2003, 08:51 PM
is it Pippin, after they, being the hobbits, fall down the cliff/hill thingy in a "shortcut to Mushrooms"?

The Only Real Estel
07-24-2003, 09:22 PM
Nope. smilies/cool.gif

Mariska Greenleaf
07-25-2003, 02:28 AM
Was it Bilbo then, when he was smoking with Gandalf? "Ah", Old Toby, the finest weat...

The Only Real Estel
07-25-2003, 10:03 AM
Sorry! Try again. Perhaps I finally hit upon a hard one. Tell me if you guys ever need any small hints in the future. smilies/cool.gif

Is it Pip's scream when they let of the firework??? Or am I completly wrong... **PFC's brain explodes**

The Only Real Estel
07-25-2003, 01:13 PM
Sorry, no. It isn't any sort of scream, but rather an exlamation. If that makes any sense at all... smilies/rolleyes.gif smilies/cool.gif

Lyta_Underhill

How about everyone at Bilbo's party when he disappeared? smilies/wink.gif Or was that "Oh!"

Cheers,
Lyta

Orofaniel
07-26-2003, 04:32 AM
Was it Gandalf? When he found the gates of Moria?? I think he said something like ; "Ah, here is it."
I'm not sure however... smilies/frown.gif

The Only Real Estel
07-26-2003, 12:53 PM
Nope, & nope! Keep guessing, & tell me if you need a hint ever (this might be a little TOO hard) smilies/cool.gif

Alatáriël Lossëhelin
07-26-2003, 03:28 PM
Frodo says it to Gandalf (or to himself) when he finds the envelope with the ring, just before Gandalf grabs it and tosses it into the fire?

The Only Real Estel
07-26-2003, 06:48 PM
Alatariel: Excellent! You are correct. After I gave that qoute I released just how dificult that exclamation could be to catch, but I'm glad you caught it. Ask away. smilies/cool.gif

The Saucepan Man
07-27-2003, 08:17 PM
I think that it is best to avoid one word quotes unless they are pretty much unique. Otherwise the question just leads to a long list of answers which, although correct, are not the exact quote which the question-setter had in mind, and the question then becomes a bit of a lottery.

The Only Real Estel
07-28-2003, 05:59 PM

Estel:

Would it be possible to have another hint? Its really hard! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/cool.gif

Horse-Maiden of the Shire
07-30-2003, 02:41 PM
Faye, Alatariel got the correct answer:
Frodo says it to Gandalf (or to himself) when he finds the envelope with the ring, just before Gandalf grabs it and tosses it into the fire?
Just to point it out. smilies/smile.gif

The Only Real Estel
07-30-2003, 08:28 PM
Yeah, now we're just waiting for him/her to give her/his quote...I'll try to shy away from the one-worders from now on, though. Or at least the more common ones... smilies/cool.gif

Faye Took
07-30-2003, 08:54 PM
Thank you Horse-Madien of the Shire! I seem to be lagging. Sorry about that Estel. smilies/tongue.gif

Alatáriël Lossëhelin
07-30-2003, 09:18 PM
Ooops! Sorry for the delay...I forgot about this thread. How about this?

Faster

Horse-Maiden of the Shire
07-30-2003, 10:16 PM
Hm. Is it Merry shrieking at Frodo when the four hobbits are running to the Ferry?

Alatáriël Lossëhelin
07-30-2003, 10:54 PM
Nope, sorry, that's not it. The hobbits are yelling "Jump Frodo! Go on faster! Jump!" where 'faster' is part of a phrase. "Faster" is the entire quote/sentence.

The Only Real Estel
07-31-2003, 11:24 AM
I know this one I think (I WAS going to use it in a bit, but oh well...): Is it Borimir to Merry near Caradhas (regarding another sword drill)? smilies/cool.gif

Alatáriël Lossëhelin
07-31-2003, 12:42 PM
Excellent, Estel! You guessed it. Your turn.

The Only Real Estel
07-31-2003, 02:11 PM
Score! Here's mine: "Come on!" I think this was only used once, but I might be wrong on that (but I doubt it). smilies/cool.gif

Diamond Green

Frodo to Sam, when Sam was saying that it was the farthest away from home he had ever been.

The Only Real Estel
07-31-2003, 08:49 PM
Sorry, no. He actually says, "Come on, Sam." So you're close, but not quite. smilies/cool.gif

The Saucepan Man
08-01-2003, 05:43 AM
I'm still hoping to see proper quotes on this thread, rather than just exclamations.

Sorry, no. He actually says, "Come on, Sam."

This, I think, illustrates the problem pretty well.

It would be a shame to have to close this thread down ... smilies/eek.gif

The Only Real Estel
08-01-2003, 03:28 PM
Saucepan Man: Yes, but it is hard to sneak a DEFICULT longish quote in there. Although I'll try to do just that after it gets back around to me. smilies/cool.gif

The Saucepan Man
08-01-2003, 05:49 PM
... it is hard to sneak a DEFICULT longish quote in there.

I'm not saying don't ever use one word or exclamation quotes - just not every question.

Surely there must be a fair few phrases and sentences amongst scenes of dialogue that are not immediately obvious. If you can't think of any of the top of your head, you can always try looking through the scripts that are available on-line.

Then again, if you've all seen the film so many times that this game doesn't present any challenge, perhaps it is time to close it down ...

Then again, if you've all seen the film so many times that this game doesn't present any challenge, perhaps it is time to close it down ...No, there's no need for that. But where can I find this script? I can't seem to find it anywhere on line...& for those who have lost my quote in our conversation here it is again ( smilies/biggrin.gif ): "Come on!"

Faye Took
08-01-2003, 10:37 PM

You can find the scripts for both Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers here (http://www.seatofkings.net) smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

Firondoiel

Frodo to Sam near the end of the movie in the boat.

or...

Bilbo to Gandalf when he arrives at Bag-End.

or....

Pippin and Sam to Frodo at Buckleburry Ferry.

or....

Either Boromir or Legolas (I can't tell which one) to Aragorn and Frodo in Moria when the stairs are collapsing.

Is one of these the one you're looking for?

The Only Real Estel
08-02-2003, 01:38 PM
Nope, it's in the first fourth or so of the movie, between the beginning & Weathertop though. smilies/cool.gif

Firondoiel
08-02-2003, 03:01 PM
Do you mean Frodo outside of Bree to Merry, Pippin, and Sam?

The Only Real Estel
08-02-2003, 06:29 PM
Firondoiel: Aye. That was it. Lets hold off a bit on the short explamation type quotes for a while now (that's just a caution). Go ahead, Firondoiel. smilies/cool.gif

Firondoiel
08-06-2003, 02:57 PM
"If it comes at all."

Faye Took

It was Bilbo in the Extended Version while he was writting 'The Hobbit'. smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/cool.gif

Correct! Please continue Miss Took. smilies/smile.gif

Faye Took

Is that so hard?

Gandalf to Bilbo in Bag End after the party.

The Only Real Estel

Pippin to Merry in the Mines of Moria, regarding his 'opinion' on there being lost at the three-way-place?

Firondoiel
08-12-2003, 09:17 PM
Indeed you are correct Mister Estel. I apologize for the long wait. I'm visiting my older sister in her apartment at college and I've been without internet for quite some time. She got it hooked up yesterday and I logged on the the Downs and wouldn't you know it, the forum was closed. However, pray continue Estel.

"I've never heard"

The Only Real Estel

Firondoiel
08-22-2003, 01:05 PM
Hehehehe. Yes I am quite sure it is real. I was scrolling throught the script really fast and this one caught my eye. smilies/biggrin.gif

The Only Real Estel
08-23-2003, 11:59 AM

It is in both Master Estel.

Faye Took
08-23-2003, 01:48 PM

Arwen Eruantale
08-23-2003, 02:10 PM
Sorry this is a bit off topic, but can we use Elvish quotes?

And -getting back on topic- I think Faye's right. smilies/biggrin.gif

Frodo Lives! Revive the slogan!

Firondoiel
08-23-2003, 08:22 PM
Faye does indeed have it! Your turn.

I think you can use elvish quotes as long as they are from the FOTR movie. smilies/smile.gif

The Only Real Estel
08-24-2003, 06:31 PM
Faye: Legolas to Aragorn in the Mines of Moria ('Tomb Room')?

Arwen Eruantale: I haven't given much thought to the elvish quotes. I guess they can be given unless, after thinking, I decide otherwise.

Faye Took
08-24-2003, 07:03 PM
Arwen is correct!

Good guess though Estel ^_^.

The Only Real Estel
08-24-2003, 07:37 PM

Faye Took
08-24-2003, 08:43 PM
Oh you're right Estel! I'm so sorry! You're right, you're right! Silly me smilies/frown.gif . You're turn Estel.

Sorry Arwen.

Sorry about the confusion!

Arwen Eruantale
08-25-2003, 07:31 AM
No problem. smilies/biggrin.gif
But didn't he say something to that effect at the end as well?

The Only Real Estel
08-25-2003, 11:24 AM
Here you go:
"Hold him."

Arwen Eruantale on second thought lets not do Elvish quotes just yet. It usually ends up just being a race to the nearest site that features the script to see who can find it there first. So lets hold off on those for now.. smilies/smile.gif

Firondoiel
08-25-2003, 01:38 PM
Pippin to Merry when tackling Boromir. smilies/biggrin.gif

The Only Real Estel
08-25-2003, 02:03 PM
Aye. Go ahead, Firondoiel.

P.S. Although I origanally said in the introductory post that we wouldn't do partial quotes, I thought about it & decided that if it sounds like it could stand alone (like Firondoiel's "I've never heard" quote) then it would be acceptable. smilies/smile.gif

Gandalf in fotr, right after he tells Frodo to "make for the village of Bree", and before he says he's going to visit Saruman.

If you're looking for another quote, I've come up with a close one:

As for the other usage of the quote, I'll give you a big hint, in case you still wanted to know what it is - it's in a flashback.

Mithisilien
09-06-2003, 01:14 PM
About the "follow me" quote, Was it Elrond to Isildur to follow him into the cracks of Doom and destroy the ring? ((and could you tell that I put up the one from TTT at 2 AM? sorry about that, I'm not good at stuff that early...hehehe))

Goldberry
09-06-2003, 04:15 PM
Yep Mithisilien, the other "follow me" was Elrond to Isildur. smilies/smile.gif

It's been 11 days, so instead of posting my own quote, I'll act in the place of HorseMaiden & award the quote to Sleepy Ranger. I do believe it was Pippin to Frodo (the accent is pretty much unmistakable). Go ahead , Sleepy Ranger!

P.S. Btw, Sleepy Ranger, try to keep your posts to one guess each smilies/wink.gif. Thanks!

That would be Aragorn to Gimli when they are resting on Parth Galen (is it still that in the movie?) Anyway, it's Aragorn. And Gimli also says it after, in a mocking kind of way.

ok, only people who have actually read the book know who really does this in moria and who asks him why:

"Boromir, why did you do that?"

I will only give one hint. The person who says this isn't Aragorn smilies/wink.gif

The Ka: please read the game rules first if you want to join in (first page, first post [mine]), at the moment, it is probably going to be Goldberry's turn to ask the next quote, but we're waiting for confirmation on that smilies/smile.gif.

P.S. By the way, this thread is only for Fellowship of the Ring Movie quotes, although if you want to do book quotes I'm sure there are a lot of threads on the downs for that smilies/smile.gif.

Ok, ok, I'll give you a hint...and a rather large hint at that. smilies/tongue.gif

This quote was spoken by somebody whose name is not specified in the movie; kind of an extra.

Ah! Would that be the hobbit at Sam & the Gaffer's table back in an inn in the Shire? Saying: "Far off tales & children's stories, that's all that is."
