Seconded.... mother of my godson who is totally neurotic and hypochondriac about her own health decided godson was being a drama queen when he complained of pain until she googled and discovered that it was potentially very serious. Fortunately it wasn't since it was one of those things where time is of the essence.

Having your dad take away your keys in a fit of drama. Now I can't leave the damn apartment without permission.

And I also assign google-ing potential health problems. That just leads to paranoia. Just see a doctor.

I assign to the deepest depths of Mordor all primary schools which assume that mothers do not also hold down important jobs and think it's OK to mess us about because we can just drop the duster, hang up the pinny and rush off to school.

Oh yes! Also primary school teachers that think that parents don't work at all and don't bother with knowing anything about their child's work. And teachers who can't deal with a little misbehaviour from children so they phone/email/write a note home about it asking the parents to deal with it - every freaking time it happens!

As you can probably tell, I have one particular teacher in mind...

And also ones which pitch to the lowest common denominator and assume we do not know the importance (or simple pleasure) of reading with our kids! As soon as I start being lectured my hackles go up.

Our local school has promised a home visit to all parents, so I'm hoping they feel stunned into submission by all the books crowding our living room. Or is that a teeny bit evil? :D

As a teacher should I now assign over-involved parents? :p

But no, I am assigning useless landlords. Need something fixing? Better ask a month before it actually breaks if you want it fixed any time before Christmas.

But no, I am assigning useless landlords. Need something fixing? Better ask a month before it actually breaks if you want it fixed any time before Christmas.

Tell me about it. My landlord is absolutely useless. Also, I used to know just about everybody in the building. But when he became landlord, all the decent people moved out, and a bunch of nutjobs and freaks who have severe mental health problems moved in, and they seriously scare me sometimes. My neighbor keeps yelling about Hitler at three AM. And not in a "he was an @$$hole" way, he's yelling "HI HITLER!". He isn't even saying "Heil", it's seriously, "Hi"

I had a scary, worrying experience there today... However, I did get to have a quick go on a piano. I wasn't permitted to have a go, but I had a go nonetheless.

And I also assign miserable mums who think it's a truly shocking thing that I would see a barely used piano in a school classroom and immediately think of quickly playing some nursery rhymes to entertain my four year old. I guess I'm a bit weird for ladies content to check their phones for texts while waiting (hoh, they haven't even seen the real Lal start yet!), but we did briefly have excellent fun for two minutes so our time at school today wasn't entirely wasted. :D

I'm sorry you had a nasty time Lal, I did see your FB status. Sounds ridiculous! We've got the new R intake in tomorrow and they're definitely going to be having fun! Parents are still being duped though - no way are there going to be 4/5 adults in with their children as is being pretended tomorrow.

YEs but it was only after googling that his mother realised he might need to see a doctor ..she really is demented.. I know the lad did fake appendicitis to get out of ski school a while back but in this case it did seem to be genuine... becasue well I can't imagine it was fun having an icepack applied.

Quite right, you use facebook for the preperational work, figure out her rutine and interests so you can accedentally run into her and pretend to have a lot in common.

Facebook has made stalking so easy, that it feels like cheating.

I assign the primacy of sport over culture to Mordor. And Wimbledon specifically. I think I assign it every year. Well then, this year it can go to the Void.

Fuming tonight as a much anticipated and hyped new production of Henry IV Part 1 was shunted around the schedules to make way for tennis. That's Shakespeare. Our national Bard. Eventually, it started an hour later, though even the evening news bulletin was sacrificed, ladies' tennis being more important than the news on a day when a chunk of Russia is drowning and half the UK is also under water (alas, not SW19).

Anyway, it was splendid - I've seen Henry IV Part 1 more than a few times and this was the best yet. And the cast was amazing - Jeremy Irons, Tom Hiddleston (also known as Loki), Julie Walters, Maxine Peake, Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen), Alun Armstrong, his son Joe Armstrong, Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary in Downton), Robert Pugh (Craster)...and an excellent full on, nasty battle scene. Lasses knocking balls about a lawn is better than that? Maybe on Planet Mad in the Galaxy of Insanity :D

Ummm...

My sister and I are never on our Facebooks. In fact, when I actually went on and looked at my information, it said I was still in a relationship with a girl I broke up with two years ago, and it also said I was fifteen... I'm seventeen now!

Sis was only on to talk to her friend because since she (her friend) was away visiting her family in a different state, calling would have been pointless.

Having to move classroom. To the point of transferring all the reading books from one room to the classroom next door. Pointless and time consuming.

Accidentally winding your slightly more obliging colleague up by throwing a strop about all the stuff living in the new classroom that has nothing to do with that class and pretty much chucking it out while she watches in horror.

Deserting a tip of a room due to feeling unwell, leaving said lovely colleague in the middle of the massive mess.

I assign nightmares to Mordor. They are truly the stuff of Mordor. In tonight's episode of TeaGEW's Mind Hates Her (and Everybody Else, for That Matter) our young heroine finds herself running and hiding from she knows not what. Her great escape takes her to a never-ending claustrophobic maze of underground tunnels without a map, and she's pretty sure it's the sewer. How will she escape? Find out in part two of her adventures of terror later on tonight.
I have really bad dreams every night. It doesn't matter what I dream about, there will always be something that scares the pants off of me, so I've trained myself to wake up and not put up with the BS that my mind puts me through every night. I hate that I have to do this, but I don't think they've found a cure for brains raping dreams. Really, if I could get a night's sleep without something terrible being the premise of my dreams, I'd be happy. Is this normal? Does anyone else have nightmares all the time? I was pretty sure that all of this was supposed to stop after I "grew up", so why do they continue?

Barring Lalwende's supremely great idea, perhaps there is post traumatic stress your brain is trying to find its way out of?
That could definitely be the case. A lot of very upsetting things have happened in my life over the past two years and sometimes I have a hard time handling it.

Today I learned that my father doesn't have enough money to pay our mortgage by himself anymore, so later on this week he has renters coming in to live in our house. Renting one's home out should not be this hard, I know, but this house has been in my family since my grandparents bought it when my mother was a girl and letting someone else live in my home, even for a little while, feels like intruding. The worst part is that I knew this was coming, I just wish that it didn't happen now. This whole situation can go to Mordor. All of it. I'm just done with being disappointed.

I would assign the stores/shops that write $x.99 instead of just rounding it up a penny and having a nice round number. Why do they have to write $4.99 instead of $5.00?

having your assigned parking space be under a tree full of strange berries and pigeons that poop all over your windshield. Then, having to work on the truck while laying on all those strange berries, and every time you sweep, the pigeons move around and knock down more berries. What's worse is, the berries have pits in them that dig into my back.

It's psychological. You're more likely to buy if you see the smaller first number. Scientifically proven in studies, of course. Secondarily, because of sales tax. Everybody knows it's going to be over $5 anyway.

Apart from Marks and Spencer (but that is not JUST a shop;)). They realised that we aren't stupit and did away with that a long time ago. Also here the ticket price is what you pay unless it is somewhere which deals mainly with trade where they may show ex-VAT price.

So when I first went to the states and was ignorant of Sales Tax I thought it was rip off a tourist time..

I assign people who say that they are fat when they are skinny. You wanna know fat, look at me! I am fat... not you

I do agree about skinny people complaining all the time that they are fat. I have a feeling they do that just to hear that they are not, in fact, fat.

On a similar note, I want to assign people who complain endlessly about being fat (with or without basis), but do nothing about it; continue eating sweets instead of proper food, continue not doing any physical exersize, etc.

Boromir88
08-20-2012, 11:55 AM
You just need to know gentlemen like me who will approach it logically.

"Do we accept that I am lean? Oh we do...great. Give me one of your skirts and shirts, if I wear this around all day, you must agree never to say you're fat again in my presense. Deal?"

(Yes this did work with a friend...not sure what I would have done if the clothes didn't fit, but they were actually kind of perfectly comfortable)

littlemanpoet
08-21-2012, 10:41 AM
Thing about skinny people saying, "I'm fat," two things are going on at once: (1) they are allowing the predominant culture to dictate the terms of their worth; (2) they are actually saying, "I don't like myself."

A friend lived in my room for a month.

a) I have never been in the same house for so long with such a spoiled, helpless, and brainless girl of my age before. It was a nightmare.

b) My room was never so amess, even when I had clothing on the floor from a month ago. Ever heard that you leave things as you found them?

c) Not only are my things all over the place, but there are things from the kitchen, the office, the bathroom, and other rooms of the house lying in every corner. I'm glad she used them when she needed them, but how about putting them back once you're done?

I think that after that one month of her visit I need a year of recovery.

My English class. We had a chance to have a quiz and an in-class essay (basically a test). Which would have takes 2-3 hours max altogether. But no, they have to vote on doing an assignment (4-6 hours right there) and an at-home essay (I'd give it minimum 5 hours). Stupid, stupid, idiotic decisions, you stupid classmates!

Not only that, but the assignment is a presentation as well as a written paper, and it is to be done in groups. In addition, my group doesn't want to do anything that requires work.

Just why does all my class except for a couple other individuals think this is easier than to write some 6 short paragraphs in the matter of 2 hours?

That's what I usually do upon receiving mail. Wonder who might have sent it. :) In fact, I do it every time I get a rep point. I look at the thread, and then try to decide who could have written what about it in the comments before I actually read it.

On this note, I assign organisations (usually charities or communities of some sort) that send you random cards and stickers for membership. I get real mail every once in a half a year, so I'm always excited if I get anything, and usually that's just yet another card saying nothing in particular from some long-forgotten community camp thingy.

Also, I assign just barely umbrella-worthy rain and wind that nearly breaks the said umbrella. And the whole fact of rain in mid-December. There's a reasons all Christmas songs have the word "snow" in them!

It could be more Sarumanian and possibly even worse, or Wormtonguian, if they held a pseudo 'public meeting' over it then announced at the end that, 'Oh and by the way, none of your votes into this matter today count towards the actual process.'

It should be in Orthanc really because it's truly Sarumanian, but it's got more shades of Sauron because of having no say in the matter. :(I would put this kind of bullying down to Mordor too, Saruman's scouring of Isengard and The Shire being echoes of the desolation of Sauron and Smaug.
I worked for a local Wildlife Group at the time when Thatcher-the-Dark was pushing through development of Buisness Parks on green-field sites. We did help to preserve a few SSSI's with rare orchids or newts living in them, but the urban farm (Merry Hill Farm) went the way of Sandyman's Mill.

However, I'm not sure why I assign this to Mordor. The idea that one gets no vote is hardly an objection because no-one in ME, outside the White Council, got a vote either. Even at the meeting of the races in Rivendell it was Council members Elrond and Gandalf who had the last word, and the occupants of Lorien did not consult with Nimrodel before moving into her home.

When we complain that our voice has not been heard aren't we simply complaining like Boromir:

"Will you not at least let me make trial of my plan? Lend me the Ring!"

Phonetics should go to Mordor. Including all people who actually like phonetics. They scare me.

J. R. R. Tolkien obviously had to deal with phonetics in his professional career and obviously enjoyed it. I am also one of the people who actually like phonetics. So, as another example, is Tolkien author John Garth. Who I would send to Mordor is people who post a request for the pronunciation of some word but then ask that no-one use phonetics to give the pronunciation.

The difference between English and American spelling should go to Mordor, too. Honestly, why couldn't you keep it at one system and vocab?

Again, Tolkien was a linguist who knew about such differences. And there are more supposedly correct spellings than two for many words. British English has the currently taught version, used in European Common Market documents, and the Oxford English Dictionary system, used in United Nations documents and in many academic documents.

Also, the expression sanguine about definitely does not belong in a happy land. Nobody knows what that means, anyway *sulks*

The word is often used, and I think that most who use it think they know what it means. Just look up the word in a dictionary if you have doubts and really don ’t know. See http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sanguine , or http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sanguine , or http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sanguine or various other sites that will provide an answer more quickly than it took you to type the question in your post.

And evil, sarcastic, sadistic teachers - who say you argue like the American president - should be assigned to Mordor immediately.

I have sympathy for teachers who must deal with what you think is an argument.

This isn't really dastardly enough to assign to Mordor, but I think I'll assign an English text book for 10-14 year olds (or so) I was looking at today at work which asked students to view and write an introduction for the LotR films, but named two characters from the opening as "Saron" and "Gollom".

Putting the disservice to the text aside, how unprofessional is it to not bother researching the correct spellings of the names of fictional characters in an educational publication?!? I believe another title in the same series set the Star Wars films as science fiction texts for study and named the primary antagonist from them as "Emperor Paladin". Utterly pathetic.

Around these parts we have "critter control" businesses that specialize in wildlife removal and sealing homes against further invasion. They aren't cheap though, and I suspect it's the same if they operate in your neck of the woods.

Years ago we had a problem with mockingbirds building a nest in our chimney, culminating with one flying down into the fireplace and being unable to get out. It took a section of chicken wire mortared into the top of the chimney to end that issue.

Oh, we used to have a squirrel live on our balcony. She was very sweet and we almost tamed her, but then she discovered that she can bite through the screen on the balcony. One day we come home to find her in our kitchen, a jar of peanuts knocked over and half the plants dug up. We would find peanuts tucked into random places around the house for weeks afterwards. My father got a new screen that was made of some harder metal, but squirrel teeth were harder still. Eventually we had to remove her nest completely cause she was just way too good at getting into our house when we weren't looking. Also, the nest was making moisture seep into one of the walls, so it would have had to go anyways.

This is a bit literal, but on the side of my apartment building which my balcony faces (our other side has a nice view of a river, a park and central Sydney) there's an abandoned lot from a failed building project which is extremely Dagorlad/Morannon-like: a waste of rusted metal and great piled-up heaps of blasted stone. When it flooded after a series of recent rains it didn't do much to improve its appearance. It might be in need of being subjected to a time when "the Great Sea should enter in and wash it with oblivion."

I just realized with one evening to get work done, that I forgot to do an assignment earlier on in my class. I have to do that tomorrow night, and post to the class discussion, clean my room, and pack for a long weekend in South Carolina. This is all in one night. I am so upset. I knew I was missing something, but I was blissfully unaware of the paper I haven't written yet. Thankfully it's only supposed to be two pages, which I can write quickly. But I have to say that the APA styling can be obnoxious.

Scumbag technology.

Computer works perfectly when all I need it for is procrastination. As soon as I actually need the computer at a certain time, it refuses to turn on.

First time that happened, it wouldn't turn on in the campus library for 15 minutes, which made me late for a meeting.

Second time, I was supposed to use it to write an exam, and it wouldn't turn on for the whole evening.

Last time, I had to use it for a presentation. It was working fine in the few days past, and even on the presentation morning, but come the critical hour - nope, turning on is too much trouble for this piece of metal rubbish.

I am fond of my computer, but it can really be a jerk.

Odd, I didn't think it was your rule; I thought it was a forum rule that politics weren't to be discussed here. But, hey, if we're allowed to make exceptions, because reasons (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/because_reasons), well, I've got a manifesto or two that I'd love to post.

By the way, I'd caution you and any other non-Americans against trying to tell Americans how to vote. "The Guardian" found out the hard way in '04 that such efforts have a way of backfiring (http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/vote2004/2004-11-04-brits-letters_x.htm). ;)

When your bank card randomly blocks your card purchases. It has happened before on occasion, but now I'm trying to make important purchases online and not a single one is going through because the bank refuses to transfer the money. Flipping idiots! There's nothing even wrong with the card, there's enough money on it and everything, they're just being obnoxious. 'Oh, we didn't realize you were using your card abroad!..' Idiots! I've been using my card abroad for months now and you were letting me. But every once in a while you went 'nah, suspicious, someone must be using her card to buy potatoes', and blocked specific transfers. Now you're just blocking everything. Stupid, stupid bureaucrats, who must be in cahoots with whoever collects the money for international calls - because emails are not secure enough to confirm I do not have an official block on my card. Nasssty, mean, fat idiots!

Definitely those "fresh food and recipes to your door" delivery companies like HelloFresh (I think they have different ones in Europe and the USA). Anything that creates two kilos of cardboard and plastic waste per delivery, takes all the challenge and creativity out of cooking, and encourages people to spend less time shopping for food and more time working falls squarely in with the hypermodern industrial devilry of Orthanc and Barad-dur.

Moral of the story, kids: don't play with Erech stones, don't try to fix what isn't broken, and most importantly, check the spam folders of your emails for BD messages containing simple instructions for resurrection back to life- that is, back to death.

When the browser changes the way the bookmarks bar looks, and now everything is a little too far to the left, and it looks off-putting, but you can't even remember what was there before - was there anything in the far left of the bar taking up space? Did the bookmarks just start further right, not at the very edge of the page? Or am I just going crazy? We may never know, but until I get used to this new layout it's gonna drive me crazy. Not to mention that every time I "reach" for the BD bookmark by visual/muscle memory, I end up hitting email instead.

I somehow landed on the dining table of a Chinese bot which sends recorded messages, and if I don't pick up the phone it leaves them in the voicemail - which is more annoying because I have to go through the trouble of erasing them to clear the notifications on my phone. If I listened carefully to every Chinese recording I got, I would probably know the language by now, but I usually don't get past "nihau". What a waste of everybody's time - botting people who don't even speak the language of your advertisement.

For a while I was trying to emulate my troll hero, James Veitch (an example (https://youtu.be/4o5hSxvN_-s) of his fine work). But you can only troll live spammers, you can't troll bots with recordings! And the rare time it's a living person, they are usually not in possession of sufficient English to understand they are being trolled, and it just goes nowhere.

https://twitter.com/TheMiddleborne/status/1554678568524943361

Galadriel never picked up a sword in any Tolkien story. Not even once. She didn't have to because her massive power and wisdom were always implied, like the power of water held by a dam. It was briefly revealed, only once, when Frodo offered her the Ring.

‘And now at last it comes. You will give me the Ring freely! In place of the Dark Lord you will set up a Queen. And I shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night! Fair as the Sea and the Sun and the Snow upon the Mountain! Dreadful as the Storm and the Lightning! Stronger than the foundations of the earth. All shall love me and despair!’

She lifted up her hand and from the ring that she wore there issued a great light that illumined her alone and left all else dark. She stood before Frodo seeming now tall beyond measurement, and beautiful beyond enduring, terrible and worshipful.

This whole thing is just a (Marvelverse) square peg, sledgehammered into a (Middle Earth) round hole.

All Snakes.- Also known as "Satan's Tape Measures" or "Nope-Ropes"

All Spiders- Yes, even the ones that 'eat harmful pests'. THEY are harmful pests.

Intense Study Of The English Language At The Age Of 10- Don't diagram the sentence any more! Just put it's mutilated corpse to rest!

Rats- You can say what you like, I still think they were responsible for the ol' Bubonic.

Ads- The others might be controversial, but we can all agree that the orcs deserve to be interupted every 90 seconds by The Mouth of Sauron's ad for re-election.

The Legolas-Tauriel-Kili Love Triangle- This one needs no explanation.

The Mithril Subplot- I was going to just assign Rings of Power, but I don't really want to offend people who might have enjoyed it (after all, I enjoyed Peter Jackson's The Hobbit movies), so I will just assign my most disliked part. I mean, think about it. It would be like if someone said:

A: "We are all dying from cancer, but I have the cure.... It's gold!"

B: "Well, okay. It seems kind of odd that a generic metal, however valuable, just happens to cure cancer. But this is going to save thousands of lives! So let's get busy. I mean we are going to need to adminster this cure to the entire population. Wait, are we going to inject them or do they eat it."

A: "Uh, neither. They just have to be exposed to it. Bathed in it's light."

B: "Okay, that's a bit strange. But, great! Wait, what about the people who have already been around gold?"

A: "Well, I guess they are good to go."

*some time later*

B: "We don't have enough gold. We just have this one little piece. So, I am thinking we just line 'em up and hold it up, they just walk by and Bam! Immune to cancer!"

A: ... Orrrrr, we could just forge like, three rings or something, and three of us get one and Bam! Immune!

B: Oh, yes. Three of us having golden rings will definitely cure the entire population of cancer.
