Correct, Night Knight. Your go.

NightKnight
03-11-2004, 01:57 PM
Damn, I'm running out of questions. :p

Name the regions of Númenor.

luthien-elvenprincess
03-11-2004, 03:28 PM
Forostar-Northlands
Andustar-WEstlands
Hyarnustar-Southwestlands
Hyarrostar-Southeastlands
Orrostar-Eastlands
Mittalmar-Middleland
Arandar-Kingsland

NightKnight
03-12-2004, 07:10 AM
Correct-ness. Your turn. :)

luthien-elvenprincess
03-12-2004, 07:27 AM
Where is Scary?

Lindolirian
03-12-2004, 10:51 AM
Scary is in the mid-northern part of the East Farthing of the Shire. Its gives its name to the nearby Hills of Scary and is approximately 30 miles northeast of the Three Farthing Stone

luthien-elvenprincess
03-12-2004, 12:19 PM
:D wow, all I really needed was 'a village in the Eastfarthing"!:p
You are very correct, Lindolirian.

Lindolirian
03-12-2004, 04:33 PM
Well, sometimes you never can be too sure; some people want answers to be really specific. O well!

A little geometry problem for ye...
What is the area in square feet of the Ring of Isengard?

The Perky Ent
03-12-2004, 05:34 PM
Um...howabout 84,480 square feet?

Lindolirian
03-12-2004, 09:56 PM
That would be it if the Ring was 328 feet from rim to rim. It is much larger.

luthien-elvenprincess
03-12-2004, 10:51 PM
There would be about 21,895,626 square feet in the Ring of Isengard.

Lindolirian
03-13-2004, 01:40 PM
Very nice!

luthien-elvenprincess
03-14-2004, 08:19 AM
Leaving Bywater, I head to the place where Aragorn met Gandalf on May 1, 3018. Continuing onward for about 150 miles, I then turn north-east and voyage about 300 miles. Where am I?

The Perky Ent
03-14-2004, 01:13 PM
Angmar?

luthien-elvenprincess
03-14-2004, 08:50 PM
nope

The Perky Ent
03-14-2004, 09:43 PM
Erebor?

luthien-elvenprincess
03-15-2004, 05:52 PM
No, again.:)

Firefoot
03-15-2004, 06:03 PM
Mount Gundabad?

luthien-elvenprincess
03-15-2004, 07:52 PM
No.
Hint: you can find where Aragorn and Gandalf met on 5/1/3018 in the chapter entitled 'Strider'.:p

Lindolirian
03-15-2004, 08:05 PM
Rivendell. Taking the Greenway to Sarn Ford (the place of their meeting) and onward another 150 miles to Tharbad. Then northeast on the Greyflood/Hoarwell/Bruinen to Riven 300 miles away.

luthien-elvenprincess
03-16-2004, 06:08 AM
Perfect Lindolirian! Your turn.

Lindolirian
03-18-2004, 06:40 AM
Thank you! That last one was a good one... I dount I coulda gotten it without the hint though

What lies between Phurunargian and Nan-Curunir?

Nirvana II
03-18-2004, 09:55 AM
Rohan????becuase Nan Curunir is the Wizard's Vale...so im just guessing.

NightKnight
03-18-2004, 12:24 PM
The Misty Mountains?

Lindolirian
03-19-2004, 12:34 PM
Guessing just isn't your thing, Nirvana. NK has it!

NightKnight
03-19-2004, 12:42 PM
What is the land between Baranduin and Greyflood called?

Lindolirian
03-19-2004, 12:47 PM
No map, no books... I'm goin' with Minhiriath.

NightKnight
03-19-2004, 12:55 PM
Nope, that's between Greyflood and Isen.

Lindolirian
03-19-2004, 01:03 PM
OK If not Minhiriath, then Enedwaith.

Hmm wait a sec. I see that my edit and your reply came in the same minute, so you may not have seen that I changed it to Minhiriath and you were replying that Enedwaith was wrong. So anyways, my answer is Minhiriath.

NightKnight
03-19-2004, 01:04 PM
Didn't you say Enedwaith before? Minhiriath is the correct answer...

Lindolirian
03-19-2004, 01:14 PM
What was the prominent island of the Dor Firn-i-Guinar?

NightKnight
03-19-2004, 01:30 PM
Tol Galen, where Beren and Luthien lived.

Lindolirian
03-19-2004, 01:32 PM
Of course...;)

NightKnight
03-19-2004, 01:33 PM
What was the big lake in Mordor named?

Lindolirian
03-19-2004, 01:37 PM
Núrnen.

NightKnight
03-19-2004, 01:40 PM
Yeah. I'm having a hard time separating Nurnen and Rhun. :p

Lindolirian
03-22-2004, 04:04 PM
What do Calenhir and Thistle Brook have in common?

NightKnight
03-23-2004, 01:25 AM
Both are rivers?

Lindolirian
03-23-2004, 03:02 PM
Hahaha... Yes, but besides the obvious! :D

The Perky Ent
03-23-2004, 09:09 PM
They're both tributary?

Lindolirian
03-24-2004, 06:42 AM
True, but it's something that these two have in common that I think only the Shirebourne has as well. So it's a geographical one thing in common:

Thistlebrook
Shirebourne
Calenhir

luthien-elvenprincess
03-24-2004, 08:53 PM
They began in the Green Hill Country in Eastfarthing?

Lindolirian
03-25-2004, 02:51 PM
Not Calenhir... :D ;)

symestreem
03-25-2004, 06:51 PM
They all begin in the Green Hill Country or the Green Ridges... so land elevations covered in vegetation?
And, the Calenhir begins in the east Pinneth Galen, and Thistle Brook begins in the Eastfarthing. Am I on the right track?

Lindolirian
03-25-2004, 07:17 PM
Yeah it was the Green thing... :)

symestreem
03-26-2004, 04:22 PM
Name three great rivers that run roughly parallel; I am not talking about the rivers of Ossiriand.

luthien-elvenprincess
03-26-2004, 06:30 PM
Greyflood, Brandywine, and Lhun

Lindolirian
03-26-2004, 08:16 PM
"Greater" rivers would be Sirion, Gelion and Anduin.

symestreem
03-26-2004, 08:32 PM
Lindolirian has it. They all flow southwards with an eastern curve.

Lindolirian
03-29-2004, 04:54 PM
Take the distance between the Halifirien and Amon Din. Multiply that by the distance from the dwelling of a vegetarian to home of Yavanna's chosen one. This number is just short of ten times the length of what mountain range? No guessing, you have to tell me how ya got it.

luthien-elvenprincess
04-03-2004, 09:09 PM
A little help? :(

Lindolirian
04-04-2004, 12:28 PM
Ah, c'mon it's not even that cyptic at all... Just think about it... You measure two distances. One is really easy cause I tell you where from where. The second one, you have to figure out the end points. Once you have those two numbers, multiply them together then divide by ten. That is the distance of a certain mountain range. Hint: The vegetarian (cartainly not a vegan) is in the Hobbit...

Firefoot
04-04-2004, 04:00 PM
I'm going to guess the Ered Nimrais because

The distance between Amon Din and Halifirien = about 160 mi
Dwelling of a vegetarian = Bëorn's house
Yavanna's chosen one's house = Radagast's home Rhosgobel
Distance between the two = about 40 mi
160x40=6400
Length of Ered Nimrais = about 650 mi
650x10=6500

So there is about 100 mi difference.

Lindolirian
04-04-2004, 06:30 PM
Ah, good... you did it as the crow flies. I was afraid I wasn't clear enough on that bit. Very nice!

Firefoot
04-04-2004, 07:56 PM
I want to get from the Grey Havens to Pelargir. Provided that I can only use roads and waterways, what is the shortest path that I can take?
I don't want the distance in miles, just tell me which rivers, roads, etc you would travel on.

Lindolirian
04-05-2004, 01:42 PM
You hop on a boat, head west out of the Gulf of Lune, follow the coast south and turn east after you past the Cape of Andrast, through the Bay of Belfalas then north past the island Tolfalas, up the Mouths of Anduin and into Pelargir.

Firefoot
04-05-2004, 04:02 PM
There's a shorter way.

Lindolirian
04-05-2004, 05:26 PM
OK you march cross country to to Tower Hills where you pick up the Great East Road at the Undertowers. Then head east passing Greenholm and Michel Delving where you turn off toward Sarn Ford. This road merges with the Greenway which takes you to Tharbad where it changes its name to the Old South Road. Take this to the Fords of Isen in the Gap of Rohan and pass by Edoras. Somehow the name changes again to the Great West Road. Follow it along the Ered Nimrais and the Beacons of Gondor in Anorien until you reach Minas Tirith. Continue in the direction of the River Erui where the road acquires another alias: South Road. Behold, you are in Pelargir. Perhaps it's shorter, but its so much more complicated than the sea route. ;)

Then of course the absolute shortest way is to call up Gwaihir & Co. and ask for a lift...

Firefoot
04-06-2004, 07:58 AM
Okay.

Lindolirian
04-06-2004, 04:05 PM
How far (as the crow flies) is Uruktharbun from the Palath Nenui?

The Perky Ent
04-13-2004, 10:53 PM
Random guess, 50 miles!

Lindolirian
04-14-2004, 07:51 AM
Guessing won't get you anywhere even if by some odd chance you get it right. HINT: These names are rare names for well-known places.

NightKnight
04-18-2004, 10:05 AM
I really hate you for this one...I can't find Uruktharbum anywhere. Are you sure of the spelling?

Lindolirian
04-18-2004, 06:10 PM
Good call... It's actually Uruktharbun with an n rather than an m . Sorry for the confusion.

The Perky Ent
04-18-2004, 08:29 PM
Well, i think the common names are Moria and Nindalf, but i don't know the distance between them! Um...400 miles?

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 12:35 AM
Well, that made it a lot easier...375 miles?

luthien-elvenprincess
04-19-2004, 05:38 AM
That does help! I'll say about 425 miles

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 02:38 PM
375 is correct!

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 02:48 PM
That one was evil...very evil.

And to relieve everyone, I will ask an easy question.

Name three places in Middle-Earth that were named after someone.

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 02:54 PM
Hey it wasn't that evil...
Fangorn
Cerin Amroth
Nimrodel

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 02:59 PM
It was at first, when you had spelt it wrong. ;)

You're correct, and may therefore continue. :)

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:03 PM
What made Great Gelion "greater" than Little Gelion?

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:07 PM
More water flowed through it?

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:11 PM
Blast! Ye saw through me trick. You were supposed to say that it was longer (which it isn't), but No.. you had to go and be smart and give the right answer, didn't ya? :D

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:15 PM
Of course...I actually checked the length too. :p

How far is it from Meneltarma to Andunië?

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:18 PM
250 miles as the crow flies.

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:25 PM
And if it flies back home, it's 500 miles. But then it would crash into that big mountain there. :p So if you help the poor bird, it's your turn. :p

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:33 PM
Shoot, thats a really long way for a bird to fly. Though hummingbirds can make it across the Gulf of Mexico... bah who cares? (Cept for the fish that jump up and eat 'em) So now that this has nothing to do with Geography, I shall now ask a question.

Take the area of the lake around which Fingolfin settled. Add that to the area of the lake near the place that Gandalf used his influence to help keep Sauron from seeing Frodo. Then subtract that by the area of the lake in which lie the rotting bones of another big lizard. This number is the area of a lake in what region?

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:42 PM
Jeez, you really like making these things hard for me, don't you?

Well, Fingolfin settled around lake Mithrim... The lake close to Gandalf? Nen Hithoel? Nindalf? Lizard Lake is of course the Long Lake. And the sizes of those things...? Wild shot: Nurnen?

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:49 PM
Mithrim, Nen Hithoel, and Long Lake are correct. But the crucial final answer is not... :p

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:54 PM
Nenuial? Helevorn?

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 03:56 PM
No and no. The number is exact which intrigued me and prompted me to ask this question.

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 03:57 PM
Where do you find the numbers? Just measure on a map?

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 04:00 PM
The Atlas of Middle Earth. But yes it is possible to estimate by measuring. Thats what got me to look it up.

NightKnight
04-19-2004, 04:02 PM
I think I'll give up on this one. Too hard for me, but it is a great question. :)

The Saucepan Man
04-19-2004, 06:04 PM
Lake Mithrim is 256 sq miles.
Nen Hithoel is 244 sq miles.
Long Lake is 93 sq miles.

256 + 244 - 93 = 407, the area in sq miles of Lake Linaewen in Nevrast.

Of course, my finding the answer has nothing to do with my owning a copy of the Atlas of Middle-earth. ;)

Lindolirian
04-19-2004, 08:19 PM
Geography and Maths.. you're darn right! I couldn't resist the temptation to put a spin on it. In any case, you are correct. And of course, that book had absolutely nothing to do with your answer. You are just that good at measuring shapless lakes on maps..

The Saucepan Man
04-20-2004, 06:18 AM
When it comes to maths, adding and subtracting a few numbers just about stretches me to the limit.

Name three areas (excluding any part of Mordor) that became barren wastelands in consequence of evil.

Lindolirian
04-20-2004, 06:45 AM
Hey I never said you couldn't use a calculator! ;) :D

Places left desolate by evil:
Ard-Galen (Anfauglith)
Dale (Desolation of Smaug)
Dagorlad*
Hollin
Field beneath the Party Tree in Hobbiton.**

*I don't know if this counts a a part of Mordor or not because its so close.
** A little small to count as a region, but it could work...

The Saucepan Man
04-20-2004, 07:05 AM
I'll give you Anfauglith and the Desolation of Smaug.

But Dagorlad was not, as I understand it, "changed" by the Battle of Dagorlad. It was a dry dusty plain bordered by marshes before. I don't really picture Hollin as a barren wasteland. And as for the Party Field, well just no.

So I still need one more ...

Lindolirian
04-20-2004, 07:08 AM
Yeah I didn't expect those to work; I had hoped that at least one might make it. But now I feel rather silly that I didn't think of the Brown Lands straight away...

The Saucepan Man
04-20-2004, 07:16 AM
Actually, the other one that I had was the Withered Heath, but the Brown Lands fits the bill admirably.

So now you get to go. :)

Lindolirian
04-20-2004, 07:39 PM
What do these places have in common?

Caradhras
Ealges' Eyrie in Eastern Misty Mts.
Tol Sirion
Esgalduin

***Gandalf***
04-20-2004, 07:42 PM
they were all visited by gandalf?

Bombadil
04-20-2004, 07:48 PM
they are all located in or around mountain ranges?

Lindolirian
04-20-2004, 07:54 PM
It is much more in depth than that. Something happened at or near these places.
And no, Gandalf was never recorded being at Tol Sirion or Esgalduin.

Bombadil
04-20-2004, 07:58 PM
hmmm, im pretty sure this is wrong but...

at least one of the rings of power have passed through one of these places at some time?

Lindolirian
04-20-2004, 08:05 PM
Tol Sirion and Esgalduin were well under the Sea before the formation of the Gwaith-i-Mirdain, so those wouldn't fit. Sorry. :(
HINT: Death

The Saucepan Man
04-20-2004, 08:42 PM
Death of a Wolf or Wolves (at or near all of these places).

Caradhras: The Warg that attacked the Fellowship in Eregion (killed by Gandalf).
Ealges' Eyrie in Eastern Misty Mts: A number of the Wargs who, with the Goblins, had Thorin & Co trapped in the trees (killed by Gandalf).
Tol Sirion: Draugluin (killed by Huan).
Esgalduin: Carcharoth (killed by Huan)

Lindolirian
04-20-2004, 08:47 PM
The Man of the Pans has it!

The Saucepan Man
04-21-2004, 07:25 AM
Cheers Lindol. :)

Name three coastal bodies of water in Third Age Middle-earth.

NightKnight
04-21-2004, 08:01 AM
The bay of Belfalas, the gulf of Lhun and the bay of Forochel?

The Saucepan Man
04-21-2004, 08:26 AM
Those are the ones that I had, so you're up next NightKnight. :)

NightKnight
04-22-2004, 01:53 PM
Name three elven kings that had realms that bordered the sea.

Bombadil
04-22-2004, 02:52 PM
Cirdan the shipwright, Gil-Galad, and Fingolfin?

NightKnight
04-23-2004, 03:54 AM
Sure. :)

Bombadil
04-23-2004, 09:03 PM
Angmar
Barad-Dur
Dol Gulder
Angband
Minas Morgul
Halls of Mandos

NightKnight
04-24-2004, 03:58 AM
Angmar and Minas Morgul - Both were ruled by one or more Nazgûl
Barad-Dur and Dol Guldur - Both were ruled by Sauron
Angband and Halls of Mandos - Both were ruled by a vala

Bombadil
04-24-2004, 07:24 AM
Very good! :)

NightKnight
04-25-2004, 04:00 AM
Kinda like the Matching Game there...

Anyway...

Which was the easternmost region of Beleriand, and who lived there?

Bombadil
04-25-2004, 01:58 PM
Ossiriand, Denethor and the Nandor lived there?

NightKnight
04-27-2004, 04:35 AM
As did Luthien, Beren, Dior, Nimloth, Elured, Elurin and Elwing. :p Your turn. :)

Bombadil
04-27-2004, 08:10 AM
define

Amon

and

Emyn

NightKnight
04-27-2004, 09:52 AM
Amon - Hill or mountain, Emyn - Hills or mountains. :p

Bombadil
04-27-2004, 05:55 PM
Parfait!

NightKnight
04-27-2004, 11:58 PM
Name three regions where you could find Mallorn-trees.

Tulkas the Mighty
04-28-2004, 06:27 AM
Lorien, Numenor, and the Shire?

NightKnight
04-28-2004, 08:10 AM
Sure.

Tulkas the Mighty
04-30-2004, 06:57 AM
Where was the Rimdath?

Lindolirian
04-30-2004, 02:27 PM
The Rhimdath was a tributary of the Anduin, north of the Carrock.

Tulkas the Mighty
05-04-2004, 03:33 PM
Yeah sorry about the mispelling

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 07:56 AM
Where is the Mound of Avarice?

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 09:26 AM
Menegroth?

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 03:42 PM
Right on!

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 03:51 PM
Who guarded the High Pass at the end of the third age?

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 03:57 PM
The Beornings?

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 03:59 PM
It was them, led by Grimbeorn the old, Beorn's son.

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 04:05 PM
Describe the location of Amon Darthir.

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 04:09 PM
It was a peak in southern Ered Wethrin, and near it lay the only pass from Dor-Lomin to Beleriand.

Lindolirian
05-12-2004, 04:10 PM
Yes.

NightKnight
05-12-2004, 04:12 PM
For how long did Ascar flow before it reached Gelion?

luthien-elvenprincess
05-12-2004, 05:06 PM
about 100 miles.

NightKnight
05-13-2004, 11:19 AM
Something like that.

luthien-elvenprincess
05-13-2004, 06:24 PM
ah...clue me in...is the answer correct or not?

Lindolirian
05-13-2004, 09:25 PM
I see the river's length being closer to 80 miles, but I think NK's answer is in the affirmative. I'd say you can go ahead.

NightKnight
05-14-2004, 04:56 AM
Yes, that's what I meant. I would have accepted anything between 80-100.

luthien-elvenprincess
05-15-2004, 10:25 AM
What river flowed north from its beginning in Harrowdale, eventually dumping into the Entwash?

Bombadil
05-15-2004, 10:48 AM
Merring?

luthien-elvenprincess
05-15-2004, 03:43 PM
No

Son of Númenor
05-15-2004, 03:57 PM
Might it be the Snowbourn?

luthien-elvenprincess
05-16-2004, 07:36 PM
Correct, Son of Numenor. Your turn. :)

luthien-elvenprincess
06-03-2004, 05:40 PM
Bumpin it. Son of Numenor :)

Tulkas the Mighty
06-07-2004, 11:47 PM
10 days are up! I'll take it...
The River Glanhir was a border between what two countries?

NightKnight
06-08-2004, 12:53 AM
Rohan and Gondor.

Tulkas the Mighty
06-08-2004, 08:29 PM
Right.

NightKnight
06-09-2004, 12:32 AM
In what river was Dor Firn-i-Guinar?

Fingolfin II
06-09-2004, 01:01 AM
The River Adurant.

NightKnight
06-09-2004, 05:07 AM
Right-o! :p

Fingolfin II
06-22-2004, 01:42 AM
Which river flowed along the eastern border of Beleriand?

Bombadil
06-22-2004, 07:19 AM
The River gelion?

Fingolfin II
06-23-2004, 01:48 AM
Yes.

Bombadil
06-23-2004, 07:43 AM
Name the mountains that bordered Ossiriand, and two Dwarven realms within them.

The Perky Ent
06-23-2004, 06:27 PM
That would be the Ered Luin, the blue mountains. And the dwarven cities were Nogrod and Belegost. Why does this question seem familiar. What a minute. Now I remember. Bombadil, did you get this question from Dwarf Jeopardy?

Bombadil
06-23-2004, 07:11 PM
haha! If I did, I didn't realize it at the time. :o Correct of course Perky!

The Perky Ent
06-23-2004, 07:21 PM
:D That's my job! Anyways, new question...new question. Here's one: What is Deer’s Leap called in Elvish, and what is it?

Fingolfin II
06-24-2004, 08:34 PM
It is called Cabed-en-Aras, but was changed to Cabed Naermarth ('Leap of Dreadful Doom') after Nienor jumped into it. It is a chasm in the Ravines of the Teiglin River.

The Perky Ent
06-27-2004, 09:12 AM
Correct, Correct, and of course, Correct!

Fingolfin II
06-27-2004, 06:02 PM
Since I have a mind freeze, where was the last place that Arwen went to before she died?

The Perky Ent
06-27-2004, 08:33 PM
Isn't it Cerin Amroth or something like that?

Fingolfin II
06-28-2004, 03:12 AM
Sure is.

The Perky Ent
06-28-2004, 04:18 PM
Right! What is the name of the mountains east of where the elves awoke (Cunuvien i think it's called. Well, I know what it's called, but I can't spell it :D)

Phervasaion
06-28-2004, 04:30 PM
Im not sure, but are they the Orocarni?

The Perky Ent
06-28-2004, 04:31 PM
Yes they are!

Phervasaion
06-28-2004, 04:37 PM
Great! In that case, i'll continue. What is the place beyond River Gelion, in which beren adn Luthien dwelt?... Quite easy i suppose, but not to those that haven't read the silmarillion!

NightKnight
06-28-2004, 04:38 PM
The Dor Firn-I-Guinar (Spelling? Too lazy to look it up. ;)), the Land of the dead that live or something. Or are you looking for Ossiriand?

Phervasaion
06-28-2004, 04:43 PM
I am looking for Ossiriand, but for a certain place there.

NightKnight
06-28-2004, 04:44 PM

Phervasaion

NightKnight
06-28-2004, 04:47 PM

In which region of Tol Eressea was Mar Vanwa Tyaliéva?

Nilpaurion Felagund
06-30-2004, 11:13 PM
Near Kortirion?

NightKnight
07-08-2004, 11:14 AM
It was in a special region. So, you're wrong. :p

Iaurhirwen
07-09-2004, 09:50 PM
that region that is called Alalminore or the "Land of Elms", whcih the Gnomes call Gar Lossion, or the "Place of Flowers".

NightKnight
07-14-2004, 06:55 AM
Yup. :)

Iaurhirwen
07-14-2004, 07:41 PM
Ok, I don't have much time, having an essay due in 2 hours, so this will be an easy one.

What is another name for the Red Mountains?

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-14-2004, 09:09 PM
Orocarni?

Iaurhirwen
07-14-2004, 09:32 PM

Lindolirian
07-16-2004, 10:58 PM
Narog and Nenning.

Lindo...bump!!

Lindolirian
08-01-2004, 09:39 PM
Oh silly me, I had forgotten all about it.

Where is Girdley Island?

The Perky Ent
08-01-2004, 09:41 PM
In the middle of the Branduin River, 10 miles north of the Bridge of Stonebones

Lindolirian
08-01-2004, 09:45 PM
Yeah, and I have a little house on it. :D

The Perky Ent
08-01-2004, 09:47 PM
Do you know? :D Anyways, what is Sarn Athrad?

Lindolirian
08-01-2004, 09:48 PM
The Ford of Stones in, I think, the River Ascar near Nan Elmoth.

The Perky Ent
08-01-2004, 09:49 PM
Good try, but nope

Lindolirian
08-01-2004, 09:51 PM
Yeah I just checked myself, it's pretty far from Nan Elmoth(hmmm), but it is close to Ascar, however it actually crosses Gelion at the Dwarf Road.

I was originally thinking of Arossiach which crosses the Aros, so I got Ascar and Aros confused... Woe is me.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-01-2004, 10:56 PM
...or Sarn Ford is the ford on Baranduin for those passing through the Númenorean North-South road.

The Perky Ent
08-02-2004, 11:28 AM
No, Lindolirian got it right. Sorry Nilpaurion ;)

Lindolirian
08-17-2004, 09:02 PM
Blast! I forgot another thread!
How many miles was the Bindbale Wood from Annuminas?

Tuor of Gondolin
08-24-2004, 07:55 PM
About 150 miles?

luthien-elvenprincess

luthien-elvenprincess
09-06-2004, 06:50 PM

NightKnight
09-07-2004, 08:34 AM

Nanedhel
09-20-2004, 09:09 PM
I will give it a try.

What is the westernmost of the beacons of Gondor?

NightKnight

Nilpaurion Felagund

Yup. :)

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-27-2004, 12:39 AM
How many islands were on Sirion?

NightKnight
09-27-2004, 01:04 PM
First we've got the big Tol Sirion, then I guess some smaller ones at Aelin-Uial, and then some more sandy islands at the delta...

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-27-2004, 08:04 PM
Stupid question. I forgot Aelin-uial.
Although technically, the deltaic deposits at the mouths of Sirion are not islands.

It's yours, anyway.

NightKnight
09-29-2004, 11:54 PM
Thanks.

Whose grave lay between Rohan and Gondor?

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-30-2004, 12:02 AM
. . . but it was relocated soon thereafter, as Halifirien was no longer the middle of the South Kingdom.

NightKnight
09-30-2004, 12:30 AM
Yep. :)

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-30-2004, 01:01 AM

NightKnight
09-30-2004, 08:44 AM

What is the waterfall in Ithilien that Faramir shows Frodo and Sam called?

luthien-elvenprincess
10-02-2004, 05:09 PM
IS it called the "Curtain"?

Boromir88
10-02-2004, 05:52 PM
Hennuth Annun, which is also called "The Curtain" but just in case if you were looking for either. :)

NightKnight
10-03-2004, 10:44 AM
Luthien, your turn. :)

luthien-elvenprincess
10-05-2004, 04:31 PM
What waterway would I cross to get from the 'Hill of the Eye' to the 'Hill of the Ear'?

NightKnight
10-06-2004, 12:22 AM
The Anduin, or more precisely Nen Hithoel.

luthien-elvenprincess
10-06-2004, 04:44 PM
of course! your turn :)

NightKnight
10-07-2004, 12:05 AM
In what mountain range was Dolmed?

Nilpaurion Felagund
10-07-2004, 12:21 AM
*chuckles* The Blue . . .
Not you, Evisse. ;)

NightKnight
10-07-2004, 11:04 AM
Yes, yes, indeed. And unknowingly of this thread, I just called Evisse "blue one" in another thread. ;)

Nilpaurion Felagund
10-07-2004, 10:27 PM
Meteorologically speaking, to which region does Nevrast belong to?

luthien-elvenprincess
10-09-2004, 07:14 AM
humid mild winters, humid mild summers; cooler weather after Morgoth's power increased.

NightKnight
10-09-2004, 02:11 PM
I know it's in Silm, but I haven't got it here... so Beleriand?

Tuor of Gondolin
10-09-2004, 02:26 PM
Hithlum?

Nilpaurion Felagund
10-13-2004, 06:25 PM
Geographically, Nevrast belongs to Hithlum, but its mild summers and winters belong more to Beleriand, so there!

Go! ;)

NightKnight
10-14-2004, 12:20 AM
Ha! :p

Which was the last noldorin stronghold in ME in the first age?

Nanedhel

Gondolin?

Yep.

Nanedhel
10-17-2004, 09:24 AM
What place did the refugees of Gondolin go to and rest for a while after their escape from the ruin of the kingdom?

luthien-elvenprincess
10-18-2004, 03:10 AM
Nan-thathren, the Land of Willows.

Nanedhel
10-18-2004, 08:50 PM
You are right

luthien-elvenprincess
10-19-2004, 07:09 PM
If I leave The Floating Log and travel in a straight line to Brandy Hall , what rivers would I have to cross?

Lindolirian
10-19-2004, 07:13 PM
If you were to go along the roads, you would only cross the Brandywine, but since you insist on hiking it cross-country (must be avoiding someone ;)), then you'd have to cross the Stockbrook just a little beofe you reached the Brandywine.

luthien-elvenprincess
10-19-2004, 07:37 PM
Yes, I wanted to break in my new hiking boots...now I have blisters. :( You are entirely correct. Your go.

Lindolirian
10-19-2004, 08:38 PM
Where is Brownhay?

NightKnight
10-20-2004, 12:13 PM
Sounds like the Brown Lands, but that's probably wrong. ;)

Lindolirian
10-20-2004, 03:11 PM
You know me better than that ;)... I don't make 'em that easy!

Lindolirian
10-26-2004, 06:37 AM
I don't make them that easy, but I also didn't mean to kill the thread.
HINT: It's an alternate name of something that you've heard of, but Brownhay was only used in HoME.

luthien-elvenprincess
10-26-2004, 03:21 PM
ahaaaa...at last! [Puts away all Tolkien books and lets keyboard cool down from net search]

luthien-elvenprincess
10-27-2004, 03:49 AM
If I start out from the place that was 'three days from the Black Stone' and travel to some culumalda trees; then traveled to where Merry saw oak trees off to his right; then went to an 'elf-haven' and finally to see the Ethir Anduin.

What then, general geometric shape did I make in my traveling, and what places did I visit?

Nanedhel
11-03-2004, 09:10 PM
The place that was 'three days from the Black Stone' - Linhir. The grey company arrived at Linhir on the third day after they set out from Erech with the company of oathbreakers.

Some culumalda trees - These trees grow near the Fields of Cormallen

Where Merry saw oak trees off to his right - Merry (and the Rohirrim) was oak trees on their right at Fenmarch

An 'elf-haven' - The elf haven of Edhellond, near Dol Amroth, is the most logical haven for this riddle

The Ethir Anduin - Pelargir

If I have the places right, the path looks like a slightly lopsided square, or a lower case 'e'

luthien-elvenprincess
11-04-2004, 04:56 PM
Wow Nanedhel, a most excellent job! :) I was trying to make a square.
Your turn.

Lindolirian
11-04-2004, 08:36 PM

Nilpaurion Felagund
11-15-2004, 11:37 PM

Which Tower of Teeth came from a spur of Ered Lithui and which came from Ephel Duath?

luthien-elvenprincess
11-21-2004, 07:53 PM
Carchost was a part of Ephel Duath and Narchost was part of Ered Lithui.

Lindolirian
11-22-2004, 07:26 PM
Yup!

luthien-elvenprincess
11-23-2004, 01:58 PM
