Ok, you're really going to think this one is weird...
I was cutting up my steak pie last night for dinner and I suddenly thought 'this smells like the Barrow-Downs forum'.
That kind of gave me a shock...I mean, how can a forum have a smell????
Actually, that thing about PJ PJs made me laugh. smilies/biggrin.gif Maybe they should be called PJ's PJs??? Ok, I can't stop laughing now!!! But hang on, that's what PJ's PJs are actually called (does this make any sense whatsoever? Probably not...) smilies/tongue.gif

Oooo, I hate people like that! smilies/mad.gif You feel like you want to tell them the whole history of the thing, but you don't want to waste your breath explaining something so amazing to someone without brains. *sigh* What is the world coming to?

*snicker snicker* PJ's PJs! That's marvelous! Perhaps we should design some so that the Barrow Wight can sell them to make money for the site.
You spend a grand total of 36 hours over the weekend looking for a LotR/Renaissance themed outfit for Halloween/Ren Faire/Premiere of RotK when you really should be working on your SAT/PSAT work. (I'm guilty, but it worked! I have a great Mercenary costume!)

Now you have made me laugh all over again, and my mom is giving me weird looks. PJ's PJs! I love it! But, what do they look like? (My friend has pajama pants that have the eye of Sauron on them, and she got them before the movie came out! Is that weird or what?)
~When you wonder if elves ever sneeze
~When you know who Figwit is and how he got his name
I started making my elven dress! It will be dark blue. I am planning to wear it to school. Getting weird looks at my school is hard, I only got one for wearing a Starfleet uniform! Maybe they're all getting used to my oddness, and I will have to do something drastic! Like, after I learn Irish dancing, I can bring my friend's CD player (which plays very loudly) and a celtic CD, and start dancing in the middle of the gym during a pep rally. That would be fun! Then I would steal the microphone, and yell "Wave squid at Boromir the disco king!" Oh, fun thoughts!

having been alerted to the elves sneezing question you start wondering if they did, how they would sneeze. would they put their hand to their nose and make a gentle 'atchoo'? would they turn away from you? would the take out a tissue from a beautifully embroidered drawstring purse? i think the last one.
hey finwe, one person DID do irish dancing in an assembly once! since we live in england i don't think it was that weird and people always used to show things in assembly. funny all the same though....

You use a sword to kill a spider. This is the whole story. I was practicing that move that Eowyn does with her sword in my room, when suddenly, in the next room, my younger brother (who is 8) started screaming, "SPIDER!!!! SPIDER!!!!" Naturally, I rushed over to check, and sure enough, this HUGE spider was crawling down the wall. Compared to most house spiders, this one was like Shelob! It was a tarantula as big as my hand! So utterly scary! Anyway, I took one look at my sword (in my hand) and another at the spider, decided to take my chances, and swung at the dratted thing with my sword. Sure enough, I caught it right across the middle, squashed it, and put a nice gash in the wall. Now, there's a big smear of very questionable substances on the wall, with a big cut in the middle. I'm hoping that my parents don't notice it for a while, but if they do, I can use the excuse that, "Just because Frodo and Sam were inept at killing spiders doesn't mean I have to be! I just saved him (my little brother) from Shelob!"

PJ's PJs got me in trouble at school today! I was reading this,(They won't let me post at school, isn't that annoying?) and got to that bit, and started laughing, quite loudly, until my teacher told me to be quiet.

Bananas-in pajamas-are coming down the stairs.
Bananas-in pajamas-are coming down in pairs.
Has anyone else seen Bananas in Pajamas? That's what I thought of, because the banana's pajamas are blue and white striped.
Abot elves sneezing, I have no idea if they ever sneeze. They don't get sick, but that doesn't mean that they never get dust up their noses! I have a funny mental picture of an elf sneezing violently, like I do. I mean like: ACHOO!!! and getting thrown forward by the force of the sneeze. I almost always hurt myself when I sneeze. My sneezes were once described as 'explosive'.
Ok, I will stop talking about sneezing now. The word 'sneeze' is starting to look weird to me.

When you are thnking about your freind's demon possessed sword and suddenly you wonder how the sword narsil would feel.
You are constantly tring to defend Tolkien around the mindless idiots around you.
Yesterday I met a person in my animation lab and I think I started to talk about LOTR after the SCA was braght up and so on and so forth.
I made my freind Jon go and look for my elvish to elglish dictionary out of my car. I was going to put elvish runes all over my ea pot that we are making in class but it took too long for him to comeback. I will have to live without the beutiful letters.
I watched the Hobbit the other day, and I liked it.
Needless to say I want a working well balanced sword to learn how to use. So I can be a Ranger!!!! Either that or a realy ugly elf.

- When you are over at a friends house and are talking to her little brother, who is four and he asks you something completely none related to LotR (I don't remember what he really asked unfortunately) and you mistake it for "Do cats exist in the shire?" and then go off into an entire speech about LotR and the shire, something the poor little four year old knows nothing about, and tell him that cats very well should exist in the shire and by that time he has run off to his mother or someone..
- Or when your friends little sister is sitting on the couch watching TTT and suddenly you go off into a very long and boring speech tosomeone who hasn't read the books about how the movie was done very badly then point out each and every mistake and the tell her how it should have been done and then tell her your secret plan to hunt down PJ. I don't know, what's the difference? That's okay Elennar- I've been doing Irish dancing longer than I haven't, so that's how I know. Ceili is sort of like square dancing, in that you have a partner and there is not so much footwork involved. Step dancing is like Riverdance, where you have to keep your upper body straight and do a lot with your feet, but don't interact with he other dancers so much. In my opinion, Ceili is a bit morew Hobbitish (but that's just what I think) When you're convinced that your computer hates you, because for over 24 hours it will connect to any site you want, except for the 'Downs, and feel very saddened because you can't get on and talk about LotR with all your LotR-obsessed friends, or talk about your obsession. I know! I was so worried, and then I thought it was just my computer messing up because I have the 'Downs set as my homepage, because I keep getting this virus that makes my computer freeze up whenever I go online. I then continued that way "A last alliance of Montagues and Capulets," and then when I got bored of that I wrote like JRRT; "And he took up his sword, and Tybalt was slain."
And the bowing and "May-your-beard-grow-ever-longer"ing have got me lots of weird looks, especially from my teachers. The thing with teachers is that they don't expect you to be insane to them, so they give the best "weird looks."
Time to close this thread methinks. Huzzah! Part four!

i write like tolkien in real life.
for instance, in my last essay for english entitled 'how does golding portray piggy's and simon's deaths differently?' (yes we are doing lord of the flies and every time i hear lord of the my heart leaps, only to crash back down to earth) i got bored and started writing, 'one would be hard pressed to find a more unsympatheitc or helpless deathscene, from this it is evindent that golding heartily dislikes piggy and all that he stands for'. i have an extensive vocabulary anyway, but i thought that was extraordinary. anyway, i got A+ which was highest in the class, so writing like JRRT does pay off

Mae govannen all you crazy LOTR-obsessed people! smilies/wink.gif
I’ve read this entire thread, as well as number one and two. I’ve been meaning to post some of my own obsessiveness for quite some time now, but (I don’t know why…) I never did. But still, here’s some (not all by far!) of it:
There in the order they pop into my head, and some, most, are fairly old
You know you’re obsessed with LOTR when:
• You pop anything LOTR-related in any conversation, no matter what it’s about. (This seems to be a trademark for us Tolkienites, ey? smilies/wink.gif ) My friends no longer give me weird looks though…
• After you read the ‘What’s the worst that could happen?’-thread, your so worried and depressed (about the changes in FOTR and TT, and what PJ might changes in ROTK), that when you call your best friend (who had never read anything from Tolkien, while she says she likes good books!) you start ranting about all the changes, mainly Arwen / Glorfindel, Faramir, the Ents, the elves at Helms deep, and so on. She had seen FOTR, but not the TT, so besides ranting, I got to explain the story to her. You go on and on about it, even though I had to ask her what the time to meet each other the next day.
• With your rambling about LOTR, you’ve made said friend so curious, that the next day when you’re going to town together, she helps you hunt for LOTR-books. (I did some other obsessive thing on that trip, but that something different all together). And the moment she got her salary, she brought her own copy of The lord of the Rings! I love her, she’s a great friend. For know I have someone to discuss hobbits, elves and so on with.
• You try to pursue said friend to join the Barrow Downs. To bad she’s an internet-hater, so it’s going to take some time. But I will win! I will not let the White City fall! smilies/wink.gif
• When somebody you don't know (or know) comes to pick up your little brother, and he is walks barefoot, you immediately think: “A Hobbit!!!"
• When you are supposed to write down: 'That was also the time that Hitler came to power', and you almost mistake Sauron for Hitler.
• When you agree with everything that has been said on this thread, as well as all the others!
I’d say that’s enough for now, don’t you all think?
*silence*
Hello-oh?
*comes out of her little corner, still nibbling on her lembas, and sees everyone a sleep, because of her constant, stupid I might add, rambling*
~Deep Sigh~
Everybody, weak up! *pokes everybody awake with her pokey pokeystick of doom*
Yeah, I’ll stop now… *sheepless look*
Just one more question, please: Could anybody give me a link to that thread about a LOTR-community? I can’t find it, but I would really like to read. And enter. Oh, my vote so far goes to Rivendell (if you can’t choose Edoras of Minas Tirith, that is).
Thanks a whole lot!

Woohoo, page 16, um I think part 4 will be needed soon.
Last night we had potatoes with dinner, and evey time my mom said "potato" I responded with "Po-ta-toes! Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!" ...She said it a lot, but eventually stopped when she found out what I was doing. I tricked her into saying it a couple times...
"Hey mom, can you pass me those?"
"The potaoes?"
"Po-ta-toes! Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!"
Omg, after reading that post (and ROFL) the next day one of my classes was having sign ups for different dishes we could bring for a party we were having. Then my friend (who's not obsessed...yet) said " Maybe I should bring mashed potatoes." and I instantly said "Po-ta-toes! Boil'em, mash'em, stick'em in a stew!" Yeah, quite a few stares on that one.
My contributions:
~when you're watching your favorite show Smallville and at one point Lex Luthor is talking about this samurai sword that he owns that apparently was forged in the fires of Mt. Fuji, and you thought Mt. Doom, and almost yelled " That's an evil sword!"
~later on you think about it and almost imagine Gandalf coming in and throwing it into the fireplace to see if it was authentic. The thought made you laugh so hard you got even more stares during quiet time in Algebra. I need to stop doing that.
~You're planning on making a collage in memory of all who passed away in the books, even the villains. I might just save time by adding a picture of Helms Deep, just cut out all the elves since they weren't supposed to be there.
By the way I vote Lothlorien!

When your sister asks you 'If you could eat anything in the world for lunch what would it be,' and you say the first thing that pops into your head: 'Lovely big golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish.'
When, after doing something stupid, you think, 'An elf would never do that! And I call myself an elf...'
When watching another movie, you keep finding ways it might have something in common with LotR. Of course, the fact that it was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, so it had JRD in it didn't help any!
When you are able to find LotR references in anything.
When talking about books with a friend, even though you've already talked all about LotR, you still can't keep yourself from turning the conversation back to LotR anyways.

You know you're obsessed when in law, you match every case to Lotr in some way. Actually, I spent the session going into Denethor overload because of this case:
A man killed his violent, tyrranical father, who was abusing the younger son. The elder son had been away for eight years, and returned home to protect his younger brother.
Likens to Denethor, Faramir, and Boromir, only Boromir never clubbed his dad over the head with a sledgehammer...
I must think to do that Meela... Though i do admit thinking how i could defend an Uruk-hai at a Gondorian trial. (Though i doubt they wouldnt kill him before capture)

I have to admit, I got it from the animated version. The tune for that song isn't too bad, but the rest of the songs in the animated one, well, better not to go there. All the other songs I hum, I make up a tune for them. (Although I did use the tune from the Pippin/Merry EE bit for the bath song)

aethelwine, the big read is this big televised competition going on in the UK to find the nations favourite book. LOTR made it to teh final 21 (of course) and the panel were very rude about it on the programme, which made me even more resolved to vote as many times as i could. it is currently winning and you can vote here: www.bbc.co.uk/arts/bigread (http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/bigread)
vote as many times as you can and vote from every computer you get your hands on to make sure that LOTR wins. i can't wait to see the look on those witless people's faces when it wins smilies/biggrin.gif . if it doesn't, i just don't trust the poll.
-when you talk to you Tolkien books and tell your mother that the books spoke to you saying you needed another bookcase.
-you spend 1/2 an hour staring at the map of beleriand in the bookshop but decide not to get it 'because you would need 2- one to put on the wall and one to keep for posterity and the nasty little man just stole the other one'
-you are delighted when said nasty little man picks up the map of beleriand, tales from the perilous realm and roverandom in turn and then decide you don't like him (he stole my map smilies/evil.gif ) but resolve to meet his friend (somehow) who he is buying them for.

Anyway, I looked at the rules on the site, and it says that each person can only vote once a week. So instead of voting constantly, I'll just encourage all the people I know who can be trusted not to vote for some other book *coughcoughHPcough* . For instance, I won't ask my mom to vote, because I know she might be "tempted" to vote for Pride and Prejudice instead (it's a good book, but nowhere near LotR in greatness)

When everytime you hear the word Legoland or even Lego, you immediately think of Legolas. Whe n you drive past Legoland too, for that matter.
When your favourite number is eleven, because in German it it 'elf'!!!!!!!!!!
About the Big Read, I started a thread on it in the books section. I manage to vote around 5 times on each computer. You? I would do all the ones at school, but I'm on half-term, darn it.
WHAT IS THIS WHOLE THING ABOUT BOROMIR THE DISCO KING????????????????????????? I want to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not knowing is beginning to kill me...come on, I'm an Elf, this is serious!!!

When everywhere you go, you are surrounded by LOTR...ex:
Cadet activity: Survival excercise, meaning we go out in the bush, eat packaged food for a weekend.
LOTR: Friend Corry, finds long stick with roots attached, names it Gandalf staff, and himself, Gandalf the white(He's albino) wields the staff and does a skit on LOTR. "You shall not pass" and whatnot.
Weird: Every-bloody-one whistling Howard Shore score under their breath, got quite anoying after awhile.
Everyone asking LOTR questions to me all weekend. Didn't mind this, but the whistling, I started to threaten to put on my ring and rip off their lips.
Fun weekend though.

back on topic:
-a friendly sword (ok drumstick) fight from pirates of teh caribbean (i was jack, of course) becomes a full blown re enactment of both LOTR and PotC. you gather a crowd and ask them to guess the film (we had dialogue too), challenging them to a dual when they guessed wrong (stigmata, anyone?)

Elentari, this may not make any sense, but I'm to lazy to go find the thread right now. A while back, someone (I think it was either Arafangwen or Arestevana. I may be wrong) started a thread called "Make your own crazy scenes with pics." The idea was to take those s from the movie picture sites and make totally unrelated scenes with them. Well, Oddwen (I think it was Oddwen) had someone (Aragorn, I believe) take disco lessons and an entire disco contest began. Boromir won, and now he is the disco king. DO THE WAVE FOR BOROMIR THE DISCO KING! Later, someone had Boromir eat squid (and then Merry and Pippin cause he thought they were giant squid) and someone took that and made "do the wave" into "WAVE SQUID AT BOROMIR THE DISCO KING!" Then Oddwen switched it around, and it became "WAVE KINGS AT BOROMIR THE DISCO SQUID!" And that is the story of Boromir the disco king.
Anyway, to get back on topic:
--When you have to make something out of clay in Art and all of your designs are LotR related. Dragon-related, mostly.
--When you are known by your obsession with LotR. (Hey, aren't you the g.irl who is crazy about those books...)
--When you read part of LotR for your theater class. Sadly, only about three of the people in it understood any of it. Stupid fat fressshmenses. We hates them, preciousss!
--When you lecture random people about why LotR is better than Harry Potter.

-Since your friend runs that mud, you manage to convince him that the pre-packaged area with a part called 'Mount Doom' should be changed a bit. He's working on changing it, but he went the humour road. smilies/rolleyes.gif Ah well, at least he changed it.

Arwen, that costume site was wonderful. Thanks!
I'm not much of a seamstress. I haven't sewn in ages, really. I just shop hard when I find stores with flowy, airy dresses... But now that I've seen that cloak pattern the the Fellowship cloak, hmmmm, I might sew just one thing. That grey material... One could line it with forest & woodland green, and get the camoflage effect just by reversing the cloak; green for summer, grey for winter...
I wonder... I've often toyed with the idea of actually finding a camoflage material, and making a cloak from that. But then, I like *not* being seen when I'm out in the woods.
Such happy thoughts! Thanks, Arwen!

When you are an elf for Halloween, and while taking your sisters trick-or-treating, you decide to dress up in your costume for the dance at your school. at every single house after they say "thank-you," you tell the person in the house "Namarie." I don't mean to brag, but my costume looked very good! I wore one of my Mom's old bridesmaid dresses and pinned a (fake) diamond pin at the neck. I also had ears.

Earlier today, in math class, I was graphing 1/x²+1, and the guy next to me remarked that it looked like a speed bump, to which I replied that it was a speed bump. Or trying to fit the speed bump on the Council table? I guessed that it would crush half of the Council. smilies/biggrin.gif Or Isildur trying to cut a speed bump off of Sauron's hand.) * you know all the lines in the movie
* you give your friends elvish names without their consent, then they just sorta stare at you until you call them by their real name...::true story::
* when you get an out of uniform day and you realize you have no LOTR shirts, so while watching the movies you run, get a white shirt, and a permanent marker, and write "Frodo Lives" all over it :: ^.^ ::

Hi everyone! I'm new here-this is my first post in a forum EVER. Yay me!
Anyway, here goes!
When you like your middle name better than your first because it sounds more "Elvish". My middle name's Elizabeth. I also like it because in the movie Elizabeth, Cate Blanchett plays Elizabeth, and she's Galadriel! That mean's 'm connected to LOTR!!!
When you listen to your brother play video games, and you hear "have a taste of dwarven magic" you immediatly think of Gimli. Then, later, you hear your brother ask your cousin, "Should I be Fatty?" and nearly crack up.
When your mom thinks you need a therapist because all you talk about has something to do w/ LOTR. My mom thinks I need a therapist, even though my dad was also obsessed w/ LOTR when he was my age. And he actually had a friend who liked it too.
When the only reason you go to church for a few weeks is because you're watching FOTR in youth forum (and in January we get to watch TTT! Yay!)
When nobody at school talks to you because they don't like 2-hour lectures on why TTT was an awful movie (from my viewpoint, although I'm adjusting to the horrendous changes. I can't have the normal DVD because I want the EV and my mom will only let me buy one. That's the only reason why I don't have the EV FOTR.)
I seriously have scared quite a few people w/ LOTR. But my history teacher saw me reading An Atlas of Middle-Earth and told me that he thought that all this, well I don't know any other way to describe it, hysteria was based on LOTR. I spent the better part of 15 min. talking to him about Tolkien.
When you have already decided the names of your future pets-and all of them are LOTR or The Hobbit based (I'm naming all of my future dogs after Thorin & Co.!)
Well, that's my bit. Now I have people to talk to about my greatest joy in life ( other than my dachshunds)!

Welcome to the Barrow Downs and I hope you enjoy being dead!!!!
You pray to Eru and Elbereth that you have extremely easy midterm exams on Dec. 18th so you can go see RotK on Dec. 17th with your 8-year-old younger brother who's getting pretty obsessed with LotR (Yes, I corrupted him! I also corrupted the 2-year-old in the house, and the other day, he said something like "Ah-gon" and pointed to my Aragorn cut-out. I squealed!!!! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif)

Oh well. I'm gonna ask anyway. What's the "December 17th dance"?
Heh heh...I was in a state of ecstasy because someone asked me when RotK is coming out, so I started dancing. ...Randomly... I just hopped around waving my arms and grinning like an idiot. The December 17th dance is anything that expresses your anticipation for RotK smilies/biggrin.gif
You annoy the people at the theater when you go to see Matrix III, by quoting the character's lines along with the characters in the RotK trailer that shows before the movie.
Hee hee...I'm going to go see it this Sunday, so I can assure you I'll scare some people smilies/wink.gif
When you plan to camp out in front of Best Buy in order to get the RotK soundtrack the second it comes in.
Me too! I can't wait! *twitch twitch*
~ When you paint your fingernails to say 'Frodo Lives' and are sad because you don't have enough fingers for an exclamation mark.
You don't? *counts fingers* Uh oh...Looks like something grew overnight... Must just be me... smilies/wink.gif

Of course, you don't have to tell me, because I could potentially be some evil person who's out to get you (which I am not) smilies/tongue.gif Btw, Laitoste, welcome to the 'Downs and enjoy your death!
Okay, now what I wanted to post earlier:

And back on topic...
~When you and your brother are sleeping in your basement (it's long story why), and your mom comes down to get something. The lights were off, and she turned them on and then turned the back off again really fast. You have your eyes closed, so it looked like the part of the trailer where Sauron's Eye flashes on screen, right after Legolas says "He is here". You proceed to say that it looks like this, Which leads your mom to say "Sauron is not in our basement." Your brother suggests that maybe it reminds him (Sauron) of Barad Dur, so you then list all the things which your basement has that Barad Dur does not, including your old Barbies. We then started imagining Sauron playing with Barbies! smilies/biggrin.gif
Au revoir, mes amis!

Hi I havent been back here in ages school started again for me so I had to study for my school certificate and all but now I can finally post again.
Anyway you know your obsessed when you go shopping for formal dresses and you spend about 4 hours refusing to buy every dress your sisters hand you cause they havent got an elvish look.
And when you start jumping up and down while shrieking for joy because you found really cool ring and bracelet set that looks very elvish.
When you have a casual teacher and she spends the lesson giving you strange looks because you spend the whole lesson speaking elvish to your friend (WHO DOESN'T LIKE MIDDLE EARTH) I might add.
Oh my English teacher really likes lord of the rings and she has these really cool pictures like the ones in the books on the walls with some lines form the books and everything...Anyway we had a compertion one time and I won she was going to give the winner a prise so I asked her if I could have the pictures on the wall and she said no. smilies/frown.gif smilies/frown.gif smilies/frown.gif smilies/frown.gif

-When you spend most of Japanese class staring at a girl's earrings from afar because they look like the Evenstar and you can't tell if they are or not
-When you start squeeing madly because you hear someone say "Not all those who wander are lost" on a hotel commercial.
-When you then proceed to recite "All that is gold does not glitter" to your family.
-When you're more looking forward to seeing the RotK trailer before the Matrix than you're looking forward to seeing the Matrix itself.
