View Full Version : Which Downer Am I!
symestreem
06-05-2006, 05:54 PM
symestreem! I've heard many good things about you :)
However, you're not right.
Knowing who you probably heard it from, I'm not particularly cheered...
Is it Encaitare?
Durelin
06-05-2006, 06:28 PM
Quite!
symestreem
06-05-2006, 06:59 PM
Frankenstein pen. :)
Glirdan
06-05-2006, 07:06 PM
B-W comes to mind...yet I think it's probably more cryptic isn't it?
symestreem
06-05-2006, 09:23 PM
No, and no.
:)
Alcarillo
06-05-2006, 09:41 PM
Crystal Heart comes to mind, being an RPer and having "risen from the dead".
symestreem
06-05-2006, 09:47 PM
Crystal Heart comes to mind, being an RPer and having "risen from the dead".
You're on the right track with the last part of your statement, but it's not Crystal Heart.
Actually, come to think of it, you're on the right track with the second part of your statement, too.

What in Arda are you doing here, symestreem? (And yes, I'm not used to calling you that - not anymore.)
Anyways, Diamond18? A way wild guess here. Well, she's an RPer, and she has just lately roamed around the rest of the forum again.
symestreem

Bothering your brother. ;)
Nope, not Diamond18. Here's a hint: the clue refers to a personal title.
Knowing who you probably heard it from, I'm not particularly cheered...
All good I promise :D
Envinyatar?
symestreem
06-06-2006, 05:25 AM
All good I promise :D
Envinyatar?
Yes! The Quill Revenant.
Wow, wasn't expecting that to be right! Erm, have a simple one :)
Rhyming is dangerous.
mormegil
06-06-2006, 10:39 AM
Rimbaud
Perilous poet.
That's the one morm, take it away.
mormegil
06-06-2006, 11:06 AM
Let's see how this one goes.
My pronunciation I keep secret.
OK I have two guesses. I want to say them now so I don't worry about being told they're wrong later :D
Bethberry or burrahobbit.
JennyHallu
06-06-2006, 11:49 AM
paavo?
Orominuialwen
06-06-2006, 12:43 PM
Davem? I remember there being some confusion about whether his name was pronounced dave-em or da-vem.
symestreem
06-06-2006, 12:50 PM
Wow... Orominuialwen, you could be a candidate yourself! How do you say your name?
Orominuialwen
06-06-2006, 12:56 PM
Wow... Orominuialwen, you could be a candidate yourself! How do you say your name?
Or-oh-min-ooh-ee-AL-wen. At least that's how I say it, but my Quenya and Sindarin (it's sort of a mix of the two) pronunciation is notoriously bad.
mormegil
06-06-2006, 01:00 PM
None of the above, sorry. She, yes it's a female, mentioned this specifically in a certain thread.
mormegil
06-07-2006, 02:38 PM
No and she's in the top 60 of total rep. That should narrow it down a bit.
Valier
06-07-2006, 02:53 PM
Could it be Thinlomien?
Anguirel
06-07-2006, 02:53 PM
Surely
Marileangorifurnimaluim
mormegil
06-07-2006, 03:03 PM
None of the above, she has come and said that her pronunciation is a secret that perhaps she doesn't know for certain.
symestreem
06-07-2006, 03:31 PM
Roa_Aoife?
mormegil
06-07-2006, 03:39 PM
No but this person PMed me and guessed it was her correctly. She said she wouldn't post the answer but if she feels so inclined she may.
Diamond18
06-07-2006, 05:06 PM
If I make take the liberty of two guesses:
Maeggaladiel
or
Amanaduial the archer
But I think it's Maeggaladiel....
Valier
06-07-2006, 05:10 PM
I believe Maeggaladiel is a guy.:)
Glirdan
06-07-2006, 05:15 PM
I'm inclined to guess Oromin, yet I don't think it's her...
mormegil
06-07-2006, 05:22 PM
None of the above...let me narrow this down even further. Her rep has carried her into at least the top 30.
Glirdan
06-07-2006, 05:26 PM
Then my next guess is Celuien.
Valier
06-07-2006, 05:28 PM
How 'bout Diamond18?
mormegil
06-07-2006, 05:58 PM
Nope though if you keep guessing you'll eventually be correct. I believe the thread where she stated this was the one about Fordim and the difficulty in spelling some fellow Downers names. However the conversation evolved into pronunciation. I haven't located the thread but it really should be that tough now.
Diamond18
06-07-2006, 06:01 PM
Meneltarmacil?
(But I thought Menel was a he?)
The only other one I can think of is Lalaith, though I have no trouble pronouncing her name....
Glirdan
06-07-2006, 06:07 PM
Well, the only other ones I can think of would be Lalwendė or Esty, yet I don't find either of them overly difficult to pronounce.
mormegil
06-07-2006, 06:34 PM
Menel is male so no and Glidan even though you guessed twice neither is correct.
Come on, it's really not that difficult.
mormegil
06-07-2006, 06:39 PM
Found the thread and it wasn't the Fordim thread, sorry.
Diamond18
06-07-2006, 06:42 PM
Surely it's not Farael because he's a guy.
symestreem
06-07-2006, 06:50 PM
There is one (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=406233&postcount=79) on the Fordim thread as well, Orominuialwen, but Glirdan already guessed her.
Is it Anguirel?
mormegil
06-07-2006, 06:52 PM
No.
Ang is a male but this female shares something in common with him that very few others, if any, in the top 30 do.
symestreem
06-07-2006, 06:59 PM
Ang is a male...
That's the second time I've done that tonight. Sorry, Anguirel. :(
Mithalwen?
Glirdan
06-07-2006, 07:12 PM
Mithalwen?
When you think about this one, it really does fit because there are many ways you could pronounce her name. As well, a thing they have in common is their none Avvatar's. So morm, what is your judgement before I give up entirely?
JennyHallu
06-07-2006, 07:45 PM
I'm going to guess Celuien.
mormegil
06-07-2006, 08:04 PM
Mithalwen is correct!
Thank you.
I've never seen so many double guesses :p.
Are my clues too difficult or to vague?
symestreem
06-07-2006, 08:13 PM
Too difficult to follow up, for me. I couldn't find the thread where she was unsure about the pronounciation of her name, even when I thought it was her. It was the avatar clue that gave it away.
He haunts Marx.
Lhunardawen
06-07-2006, 08:59 PM
I believe Maeggaladiel is a guy.:)
She's a she. :)
I'll take a stab at this, symestreem...Thenamir?
symestreem
06-07-2006, 09:03 PM
Yep! :)
Lhunardawen
06-07-2006, 10:10 PM
Because I was put on the spot, here's something...weird.
Does it play with fire?
Diamond18
06-07-2006, 10:14 PM
Arry?
Lhunardawen
06-07-2006, 10:15 PM
Nope. :)
At one point it follows the last few questions.
Valier
06-09-2006, 10:34 AM
Is it Pyroclastic Lhuna?
Lhunardawen
06-11-2006, 05:19 AM
'Fraid not.
And 'fraid it's too nonsensical that only a nonsensical girl like me can make any sense out of it.
A hint: Look at the PTs...and think flame instead of fire. That should do the trick. I hope.
spawn? Mischievous Candle?
Lhunardawen
06-11-2006, 05:27 AM
Does this mean you're nonsensical too? :p
The thread is yours, Kath. :)
Maybe I just know the way your mind works :D
Ok, this makes sense to me, but may not to anyone else:
Straight-talking solid.
Mithalwen
06-11-2006, 10:26 AM
Straight talking suggests Boromir88's PT "Laconic Loreman"
the guy who be short
06-11-2006, 10:36 AM
Or SpM's logical mind, coupled with his Saucepan's holding liquids, which are antagonistic to solids.
Yes, it's a stretch. I'm trying to think like a nut.
:p Thanks guy.
No to both I'm afraid.
Think opposites.
symestreem
06-11-2006, 11:55 AM
piosenniel?
Hey, it makes sense to me! ;)
Diamond18
06-11-2006, 01:32 PM
Bethberry.... Cryptic Aura
That's the one Di.
And to anyone who thought solid was a rubbish opposite for aura, you try and come up with one!
Glirdan
06-11-2006, 02:39 PM
Hey Kath, try Chi or Karma. True they're not the best, but I think that you're clue might have been easier if you used them. Still, I'll give you props for trying to come up with a word that can be linked to Aura. Good job! :D
Diamond18
06-11-2006, 02:45 PM
(Actually, I thought that clue was pretty obvious. :D)
This should also be easy.
Burninating the countryside.
symestreem
06-11-2006, 02:45 PM
TAnd to anyone who thought solid was a rubbish opposite for aura, you try and come up with one!
Hmm... well, aura comes from the late Middle English for breeze (and from there, from Latin from Greek), so perhaps 'gale' would have worked. Only that would have been even more obscure! ;)
Or 'vacuum' could have stood in opposition to its meaning of 'atmosphere.' I actually thought it was a good clue; you just started me thinking. And my attempts reinforce your notion of the difficulty of finding an antonym...
Glirdan
06-11-2006, 03:06 PM
Um, burrahobbit?
Kitanna
06-11-2006, 03:28 PM
Burninating the countryside.
Gil-Galad?
Diamond18
06-11-2006, 03:43 PM
Kitanna has it.
Glirdan: www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail58.htm ;)
Kitanna
06-12-2006, 09:39 AM
Ok, been quite a long time since I had to come up with a clue. So it'll be pretty easy:
Look in a puddle to see this Downer
symestreem
06-12-2006, 09:42 AM
Not to be egotistical, but is it me?
Kitanna
06-12-2006, 09:57 AM
Yeah, it's you symestreem.
symestreem
06-12-2006, 10:45 AM
A rattling coffin.
This one might be a little more difficult...
mormegil
06-12-2006, 10:52 AM
Hookbill?
Alive without breath
symestreem
06-12-2006, 11:03 AM
Nope. The Downer I'm thinking of isn't so well known as Hookbill.
Durelin
06-12-2006, 02:19 PM
Orual, as the "Speaker of the Dead?"
A bit far-fetched, maybe... And Orual is pretty well known, though she definitely does not post as often as Hookbill does.
symestreem
06-12-2006, 02:42 PM
You have the dead theme right, but it's not Orual...
This member hasn't been around in a long time, though I remember him/her from my earliest days at the 'Downs.
Durelin
06-12-2006, 03:39 PM
Hmm...galpsi, then, maybe, as 'The Unquiet Dead?'
Let me tell you, digging for that name was a walk down memory lane. ;)
Though I guess I don't go far back enough to actually remember the name I just guessed...
symestreem
06-12-2006, 04:26 PM
You are correct.
And I guess remembering him makes me an old fogey... ;)
Durelin
06-12-2006, 04:47 PM
Okey, here we go...
From way back...millennia, even
Valier
06-12-2006, 05:16 PM
Is it either...
Waynethegoblin, or even the 1,000th reader?
Durelin
06-12-2006, 10:20 PM
Nope.
Much farther back than that...and the 'millennia' part is in fact a hint to the name itself.
symestreem
06-12-2006, 10:24 PM
Sounds like someone from before the switchover to VBB-- but that could be a lot of people...
But if it's someone well-known, is it Kate, onewhitetree?
Durelin
06-12-2006, 10:33 PM
Nope.
Yes, it's someone from before the switch.
But the 'millennia' part is something altogether different. It's a clue to the name of the person itself, not just how old of a member they are.
mormegil
06-12-2006, 10:59 PM
HCIsland for his static 1000 posts.
Durelin
06-13-2006, 08:31 AM
Nope.
The 'millennia' part is directly linked to the person's name.
The 'HC' part, at least, is actually kinda close, though...
symestreem
06-13-2006, 08:58 AM
Pallando B.C?
Durelin
06-13-2006, 10:41 AM
Yep!
I was hoping my clues weren't too stupid...I suppose they were fairly odd, though...
Your thread again, symestreem. :)
symestreem
06-13-2006, 12:30 PM
Medieval weaponry, meet a tint poll.
:D
symestreem
06-13-2006, 12:39 PM
Nope!
Valier
06-13-2006, 01:28 PM
How about Envinyatar?
symestreem
06-13-2006, 01:33 PM
No. This member's name doesn't have anything to do with medieval weaponry or tinted polls.
Nice sig, Valier!
Diamond18
06-13-2006, 01:49 PM
I was going to say OneAxetoRuleThemAll (I think that's a Downer) but now that medeval weaponry apparently doesn't have anything to do with it....
Is it an anagram?
symestreem
06-13-2006, 01:53 PM
Part of it is an anagram, yes.
symestreem
06-14-2006, 10:14 AM
The medieval weaponry was meant as a hint, and here's another: go for a walk. Figuratively. But stay in the category ("Middle-Earth Fun and Games".)
symestreem
06-14-2006, 11:56 AM
Yes! :)
(The medieval weaponry was meant to direct one to the Arrows 'n' Bows thread over in Mirth, which comprises anagrams. And meet a tint poll is indeed an anagram of littlemanpoet.)
Your thread, Kath!
Ah too complex for me, I needed the clue :D
Nomadic piece of history.
Mithalwen
06-14-2006, 01:33 PM
Hilde Bracegirdle - Relic of Wandering days?
Ack! Must have been too easy :p Your thread Mith.
Mithalwen
06-14-2006, 01:40 PM
No ..just unlucky ... it just happened to ring a bell ... Hilde is a croney from the old codgers club..... :p
Mithalwen
06-15-2006, 12:15 PM
Beethoven 73 : Haydn 76
Valier
06-15-2006, 01:11 PM
Could it be Encaitare? with the bittersweet symphony?
Mithalwen
06-15-2006, 01:55 PM
Could it be Encaitare? with the bittersweet symphony?
Well neither is a symphony and it is more topical..:D
Celuien
06-15-2006, 04:25 PM
Anguirel the Emperor Penguin, Concerto and Quartet?
Mithalwen
06-16-2006, 02:16 AM
Indeed, thread is all yours... :D
Celuien
06-16-2006, 03:32 AM
:D
Turn the top e over, if you insist. You won't find the stone giant or woman there.
mormegil
06-21-2006, 07:32 PM
This has baffled me and I humbly request a hint.
Celuien
06-21-2006, 07:42 PM
Hint:
If you don't find the giant or woman, you may find their opposites.
Turn around is a cryptic instruction. ;)
EDIT: And the clue refers to a screen name.
mormegil
06-21-2006, 07:43 PM
The Guy Who Would Be Short.
A wonderful clue but sadly given to a lethargic mind.
Celuien
06-21-2006, 07:44 PM
On the right track... But no. ;)
mormegil
06-21-2006, 07:45 PM
Okay...
Littlemanpoet...
too many of these short men around here.
Celuien
06-21-2006, 07:46 PM
You have it!
Also: turn around -> anagram of top e -> poet
You got the rest already.
The thread is yours.
mormegil
06-21-2006, 07:54 PM
Perhaps this will work hopefully it's not too vague.
The first of the first on the first in a series of many but not in Wilwa's threads
Celuien
06-22-2006, 12:11 PM
I'm probably being too literal here, (and too obsessed with a certain topic in Mirth ;)) but:
Series of many - the werewolf threads.
First of the series - the original TiG thread
First on the thread - The Barrow-Wight, who was not in Wilwa's game.
So, The Barrow-Wight?
mormegil
06-22-2006, 01:58 PM
No but it was a good thought.
mormegil
06-25-2006, 05:28 PM
Okay are hints needed?
Celuien
06-25-2006, 05:30 PM
Okay are hints needed?
Quite possibly. :)
I'm stumped...
Gil-Galad
06-25-2006, 07:06 PM
Davem perhaps because he began the first Polls on the Downs?
EDIT: or H-I... i'm confused but whomever made the most Polls in the downs
Celuien
06-25-2006, 07:15 PM
I'm thinking that Wilwa's threads might be cryptic...but the only non-butterfly thread I can come up with is a spider's web (spider instead of butterfly/silkworm silk).
So, that would give me dancing spawn of ungoliant with Ungoliant as the first spider, but I have serious doubts.
From too literal to too symbolic.
mormegil
06-25-2006, 08:56 PM
No, Wilwa isn't cryptic as much as a hint to help you get on the right track. Use a Wilwa thread for a clue but realize it's WW related. :D
Celuien
06-25-2006, 09:22 PM
Last guess for the night:
Mithalwen, as the first person to have a Barrow-Downs dream analyzed by our own Dr. Elempi Dream (as far as I can tell). The dream was werewolf related, and not posted on Wilwa's dream thread, but instead on the "Your LOTR Dream" thread by laziieye.
And I'll need some rest before puzzling over this one anymore. :p
EDIT: My mistake. That would be Cailin, not Mithalwen, whose dream was analyzed. Mith made a werewolf related comment that was incorporated into the post...
Good night.
mormegil
06-25-2006, 10:39 PM
The expression "You're so close, yet so far" would be appropriate here :D
Mithalwen
06-26-2006, 01:31 PM
Wasn't Shelob the first ever werewolf victim? But I don't get the Wilwa ref unless she played a bit longer in that game...
Celuien
06-26-2006, 01:39 PM
Ah ha. She wasn't in Wilwa's game...
That might just be it.
mormegil
06-26-2006, 02:48 PM
You are both very close but your too focused on Wilwa's game, I said nothing of her game only her threads.
Mithalwen
06-27-2006, 01:34 PM
Well apart from WWX she has started 3 threads. Barrow downs dreams..... What colour is Legolas' Hair and double scrambled quotes......
So it (self obsessedly) be me since I don't tend to have dreams of my own.
Or it could be Legolas himself ...or
It could be something completely different...
mormegil
06-27-2006, 11:31 PM
It could be something completely different
Again I think you are to focused on the Wilwa part. It was only meant to give you an indicating of what the first was.
Durelin
06-29-2006, 10:12 AM
Okay, here are my guesses (I'm such a cheat with two...):
1. It's you, because you were the first to sign up on the very first WW game (is one allowed to pick him/herself, though?) :p
2. It's Anguirel, as the first Wolf to be lynched in the game (and actually the first person to be killed period, I think...).
mormegil
06-29-2006, 11:43 AM
Durelin you are getting very close but you haven't added up all the 'firsts'.
And yes one is allowed to pick oneself.
Eomer of the Rohirrim
06-29-2006, 12:49 PM
Is it Feanor of the Peredhil?
The first in the first refers to the players who played in that game.
The first of that lot to post in the actual game was Fea.
mormegil
06-29-2006, 11:28 PM
The First in the first (game) on the first.
The first game is correct. Other than that you are close but no.
Eomer of the Rohirrim
06-30-2006, 10:32 AM
If you stare at the word 'first' long enough, it begins to look really weird. :D
So the game itself is the second 'first'? I thought it must be the third 'first' because the third 'first' is the one in the series.
mormegil
06-30-2006, 11:06 AM
It really could go any way I guess....
In the first game on the first....
Valesse
06-30-2006, 12:22 PM
Perhaps you mean that it was the first game on the first of a month... or the first person to post on the first of a month? Or, maybe, a year?
mormegil
06-30-2006, 12:38 PM
No I meant the first WW game ever!
I'm moderately egocentric okay. (there's a hint)
Edit: Think of how you can add in the Wilwa's thread bit into the mix and how it could relate to firsts.
Mithalwen
07-01-2006, 04:01 AM
Well I did wonder if it were you Morm dear, as the first seer but I you didn't play Wilwa's game. However Kuruharan was the first victorious werewolf (in the first game) but in Wilwas he was the Werewolf Hunter. Is that it?
mormegil
07-01-2006, 07:36 AM
No sorry. Remember I'm a bit egocentric here, so it's something I did.
Feanor of the Peredhil
07-01-2006, 08:24 AM
Good grief... Aime was right about looking at the word 'first'. It doesn't even make sense any more!
The first of the first on the first in a series of many but not in Wilwa's threads
*looks at the original Tol-in-Gaurhoth thread, on page 10 where the June 1st posts begin*
First thread... on the first... first post was Holby, but the first person that volunteered to play that day was mormegil who was also, interestingly enough, the very first to volunteer to play WW on the 'Downs at all...
Hold on... Morm was the first of the first players, and he was also the first player to volunteer on the first of June on the first of the Werewolf threads... but he um... didn't play in Wilwa's game...
I hate the word first now, morm. Thanks much. :p
mormegil
07-01-2006, 12:27 PM
GACK!!!
Okay sorry this clue is awful...let me spell it a little more clearly. It does have something to do with the first WW game ever it has absolutely NOTHING to do with Wilwa's game. Something from a thread Wilwa created gives you a clue about what the first was in the first WW game.
Hope that helps.
Eomer of the Rohirrim
07-01-2006, 12:33 PM
Firefoot!
mormegil
07-01-2006, 12:46 PM
YES!!
YES!!!
YES!!!!
She was the first person dreamt of in the first game on the frist night...Wilwa's BD dreams was the clue on that, it also got you to WW.
Thank you good sir and the thread is gladly yours.
Eomer of the Rohirrim
07-01-2006, 01:33 PM
Morm, that was a really entertaining clue. The fact that it took us so long reflects only on its intricacies. :)
Celuien, that's exactly why I didn't explain my answer. I knew that it might be crucial to save a few moments and just get my answer out there. :D
I'll go think of a clue.
Eomer of the Rohirrim
07-01-2006, 02:01 PM
This might be very easy if anyone remembers it. If not, then it might require a clue.
The Downs' notorious sly teen.
Eomer of the Rohirrim

It's an anagram. :p
Anguirel

Sorry for being so dim Eomer...should have got it long ago
Estelyn of course
Eomer of the Rohirrim

Bingo Baggins! :D
Take it away.
Anguirel
07-10-2006, 09:48 AM
Hmmm.
Depraved at dusk
Glirdan
07-10-2006, 10:30 AM
Would this be in reference to an avatar? Because if so, my guess would be Esty.
Anguirel
07-10-2006, 10:31 AM
'Fraid avatars are red herrings in this particular case.
Valier
07-10-2006, 11:03 AM
Could it be Fea's? The Bringer red dawn
Anguirel
07-10-2006, 11:11 AM
I'm dealing with dusk, not dawn! But you're looking at the right thingamajig. Keep searching...

Thanks,
Note that the difference is a majority
Valier
07-10-2006, 01:35 PM
I swear I will get one of these one day...... Could it be Saucepanman? He is the person on top of the list for reps.... and the difference is a majority...:D
Mithalwen
07-10-2006, 02:00 PM
No... and the clue would apply to the person regardless of their palce in the list. Think of other meanings :D
mormegil
07-10-2006, 02:18 PM
Fordim? A possible stretch but he does have the majority of polls and he usually chooses the answer which conforms to the majority.
Mithalwen
07-11-2006, 06:25 AM
Again I Say think of other meanings............
Eomer of the Rohirrim
07-11-2006, 06:35 AM
Looking in the thesaurus, I find that 'majority' can also mean 'adulthood', 'manhood', 'womanhood' or 'seniority'. I never knew that. Is the clue to do with that?
Maybe we're looking for our oldest Downer?
Mithalwen
07-12-2006, 06:04 AM
Eomer ..that is the meaning I was thinking of.... :D but not the right conclusion
The Saucepan Man
07-12-2006, 06:18 AM
In the UK and many other countries, the legal age of majority is 18. So ...
Diamond18?
Mithalwen
07-12-2006, 06:24 AM
You are getting warmer but the rest of the clue is not irrelevant..... I do try, but not always succeed, to follow the conventions.

you are right to think of note but you are getting cooler on the whole. 18 is significant too.... the whole clue should "work" . If the Pan Man gets it easily now I will know it has.

07-12-2006, 03:10 PM
Is it one of those clues only Brits would understand?
Next I simply must do an American only one. :p
wilwarin538
07-12-2006, 04:05 PM
mark12_30
The difference between 12 and 30 is 18, which is the legal age of majority(like Saucie said). :D
Mithalwen
07-13-2006, 06:25 AM
Well a Canadian managed .... and Note can be synonymous with Mark....
Well done wilwa!
wilwarin538
07-14-2006, 11:54 AM
Thank you!
I'm not very good at coming up with questions, so this one might be easy, but it probably will require the use of Google, or another search engine. ;)
Daphne Anderson, Amanda Donohoe and Felicity Dean were all called by this Downer's name.
Good luck! :D
Eomer of the Rohirrim
07-15-2006, 10:23 AM
Well, I came across the name Nora, and found that there was actually a Downer called that.
I have no idea what it all means.
wilwarin538
07-15-2006, 10:32 AM
That's not it Eomer.
Maybe it's harder then I thought. :o
If no one gets it by tomorrow I'll give you another woman's name. :)
Ok, slightly random guess inspied by google - Guinevere?
wilwarin538
07-16-2006, 08:05 AM
Kath got it!
The three woman I mentioned were all actresses who played Lady Guinevere in a film.
Your thread Kath. :)
Thanks wilwa, methinks I need to go assign Google to the Shire! :D
A name with little sanity.
Now while this makes sense to me it may not to anyone else

07-17-2006, 06:52 AM
hmmm... there are alot of names like that... LMP?
Valier
07-20-2006, 10:43 AM
How about either Fordim or even the Perky Ent?
No.
It's not the actual name that indicates insanity. Also, part of the clue is an anagram. Hope that helps.
Valier
07-20-2006, 12:24 PM
Anagram!!!!! I'll never get it now.....Ok I'll try.
Feanor of the Peredhil
07-20-2006, 12:35 PM
Throw in an apostrophe with some bad grammar and the whole dratted thing is
I amn't Estelyn with a tail.
So the answer is obviously not a betailed Esty...
Wait!
It man Estelyn with a tail.
So all we have to do... is find a male Esty... that does have a tail!
Fea, though I think you're already quite aware of this, that is not the answer.
Nice try though! :D
Is another clue necessary?
Eomer of the Rohirrim
07-26-2006, 03:38 PM
You know it is. :p
Ok, well, try looking at people's locations.

First time guesser; long time viewer here :smokin: . I'll give it a try how about Lhuna?
Not Lhuna I'm afraid - but nice to see you guessing!
mormegil
07-27-2006, 04:28 PM
Mithalwen?
Somewhere between flaky and barking mad
Though I'm not sure of the anagram though you can extract Mithalwen from your clue.
You are correct morm. The anagram bit was:
name with l ----> Mithalwen
Not a great one seeing as I'm bad at them myself, but I thought I'd give it a shot. At any rate, it's your thread :)

I am often seen but seldom heard
Diamond18
07-27-2006, 06:30 PM
First guess, Hookbil. His PT is Alive without breath and you if you don't have breath you can't speak, hence seldom heard. But he does a lot of graphic stuff, ergo often seen.
mormegil
07-27-2006, 09:04 PM
Nope but an understandable guess.
Glirdan
07-27-2006, 09:06 PM
First guesses that come to mind are Wayne or Wilwa. Both of them have been seen around quite often, yet as of recently, they became rather quiet.
mormegil
07-27-2006, 09:13 PM
Again no, I fear you are both looking in the incorrect direction.

the Perky Ent? you always see him as a user online or viewing a thread but he usually doesn't post

It is (often unfairly) said that children are best seen and not heard.
So, Child of the 7th Age?
mormegil
07-28-2006, 12:05 PM
Sauce that is a good guess and I like the logic but no on both accounts.
However perhaps Chris De Burgh could be of some help.
Diamond18
07-28-2006, 04:03 PM
Well, using the Chris de Burgh hint -- is it Me  or Fea?
He has a song called "Diamond in the Dark" and a song called "Lady in Red" which is what motivates those guesses. Yet how either of us would tie in to the first clue, I don't know.
Diamond18
07-28-2006, 04:11 PM
Oh wait wait, I change my guess! JennyHallu perhaps? She has a lady in red in her avatar and being a "hallucination" she is something you usually see rather than hear.
mormegil
07-28-2006, 04:56 PM
It really is a bit more literal than that Diamond but I love to see the wonderful ways in which you all think.
Valier
07-28-2006, 05:06 PM
So what does Chris De Burgh have to do with anything?....I was thinking Jenny too.:)
mormegil
07-28-2006, 05:18 PM
So what does Chris De Burgh have to do with anything?....I was thinking Jenny too.:)
Now if I told you that it would give away the whole thing but it is somewhat related to his song 'Lady in Red'
Gil-Galad
07-28-2006, 05:47 PM
Feanor perhaps? her 'Bringer of the Red Dawn' title
Valier
07-28-2006, 08:16 PM
Or Perhaps Roa? Her Avie is a red-haired girl :D
mormegil
07-28-2006, 08:43 PM
No she's not a well known downer because the clue is fairly literal on not heard often. Much more so than the downers you are mentioning.
Diamond18
07-28-2006, 08:49 PM
Would it be.... red?
I don't think she's been here in years. :p
Or, possibly, Rhod the Red.

Cross Devo with Chris De Burgh and it may help.
Diamond18
07-30-2006, 12:23 AM
I see. A lady in red who whips it good. I am begining to fear for this thread. :p
But I still don't know the answer unfortunately. Does someone have a reference to Devo in their location/sig? I know that someone has "Just what is Devo whipping anyway?" or something of that sort, but that might be someone on a different forum.

Does it have anything to do with Balrogs?:D
No, and it's much easier than you are making it :) . Think literal here...seen often heard seldom (if ever) lady in red and whip it. I think those truly are sufficient clues to get it, but if more are needed I can help.
Rune Son of Bjarne
07-31-2006, 12:50 PM
I take that it was not Lush then. . .
mormegil
07-31-2006, 02:11 PM

Sorry but no.
You were on the correct track when you were thinking of avatar's ;)
Is it **sparkle fairy**? Her avatar is a woman in red holding what looks like a whip.

07-31-2006, 02:31 PM
Is it **sparkle fairy**? Her avatar is a woman in red holding what looks like a whip.
Yes!!!
Thanks. Whenever I click on 'Members List' she is the easiest person to pick out as she is the first avatar on there and it's a motion avvie. She hasn't posted in over a year and when she did it was seldom, hence seen often but heard seldom.
An interesting side note the day I started this guess, 7/28 I believe, was her birthday but it was merely coincidental.
Have at her Kath.
And yet I skimmed right past her every time I headed to the members list to search  Well happy birthday sparkle if you're reading this.
Screaming creature in mythical city.

Good clue as she is the Banshee of Camelot. She and I had too much interaction in Palantir of Fortune to forget this.
