No don't do that. . .trust me it will be very inconvinient later!

Volo
11-10-2006, 09:49 AM
Um yea, you're right, I'll leave it for later (what if I get lost in a desert with no food).

(great picture (I guess) you sent to the picture site, btw :D)

Holbytlass
11-11-2006, 01:03 PM
well, that is what it looks like on the photopage
*checks out photopage* I stand corrected, he looks like he's got somewhere to go though and I wasn't looking there ;).

Valier
11-11-2006, 01:11 PM
could it be Farael and his running Mario?

Eomer of the Rohirrim
11-11-2006, 03:27 PM
zifnab

His avatar is a figure running around in a square.

Holbytlass
11-11-2006, 04:18 PM
yep, Eomer, he's the one with nowhere to go. Your turn.

Eomer of the Rohirrim

Thanks. :)

An odd mammal, but we unearthed it anyway.

The Saucepan Man
11-12-2006, 07:13 AM
That'd surely be doug*platypus, whose recent return is most welcome.

Eomer of the Rohirrim
11-12-2006, 01:48 PM
Yeah, I felt I had to honour him. :)

Volo

Oops! Thank you Volo. I had forgotten this thread. :)

Viking brand forfeits the victory

Thinlómien
11-22-2006, 03:44 AM
Rune Son of Bjarne comes to my mind, but I believe it's wrong since I could bet it's cryptic... :D

The Saucepan Man
11-22-2006, 06:01 AM
Nope, not Rune.

And you won your bet. :D

mormegil
12-03-2006, 01:35 AM
Is the Viking brand in reference to something only the Brits would know?

The Saucepan Man
12-03-2006, 05:46 AM
Is the Viking brand in reference to something only the Brits would know? No, I don't think so. I'm presuming that Scandinavian brands sell in the US ...

(That was a BIG hint, btw).

Thinlómien

No, I don't think so. I'm presuming that Scandinavian brands sell in the US ...
I can't think of anyone named Ikea or Nokia...

edit: Rikae? It sounds like Ikea and if you twist that crypticism it could result that way though I can't see how (I'm bad at cryptic ones even in Finnish).

The Saucepan Man
12-04-2006, 06:10 AM
Nope. None of those are correct.

However, Lommy is on the right track ...

The Saucepan Man
12-05-2006, 05:48 AM
The pronounced silence has driven me to provide this further hint.

Durelin
12-05-2006, 05:55 AM
Volo as in "Volvo"? :D

The Saucepan Man
12-05-2006, 07:24 AM
*Fanfare*

Ladies and gentleman, we have a winner!

Congrats, Durelin, and take it away ...

Volo
12-05-2006, 08:19 AM
:D That was how I was teased in primary school...

Durelin
12-05-2006, 07:54 PM
Aww, poor Volo! :D

Here be a clue:

The first ruler to burn at 5800° Kelvin.

mormegil
12-05-2006, 10:51 PM
*Varda*

Varda created the stars and was a leader. She was also the first creator of the light of the heavens ergo first leader to burn at 5800 Kelvin which is what the sun burns at.

Durelin
12-06-2006, 11:27 AM
Nope, though perhaps that would have been better! ;) You are on the right track with what's burning, though...

Legate of Amon Lanc
12-06-2006, 03:12 PM
Elennar Starfire?

Just guessing...

Durelin
12-06-2006, 04:01 PM
Nope.

Look at name and title.

mormegil
12-06-2006, 04:42 PM
Child of the 7th Age?
Spirit of the Lonely Star

In order of rep she is the first Mod with a reference to a star or sun.

Durelin
12-06-2006, 06:22 PM
Nope, the "ruler" part is still important.

King in particular.

Thinlómien
12-07-2006, 06:06 AM
Feanor of the Peredhil, Bringer of the Red Dawn?

Macalaure
12-07-2006, 07:45 AM
Finwe?

Finwe was the first King of the Noldor, and his PT is Deathless Sun

Boromir88
12-07-2006, 11:56 AM
If King is important and we are talking about burning...I'm thinking it has something to do with the Kings who would burn themselves...as Denethor did...'We shall burn as the heathen Kings of old.' These Kings were referenced to be those who were swayed by the powers of Sauron, but I don't know if we ever are told the names of these kings.

Therefor the only ruler I know that did 'burn' was Denethor...do we have a member DenethorII? Am I even on the right track?

Boromir88
12-07-2006, 11:59 AM
Sorry for the double post, but I just thought of something...would it happen to be Gil-galad?

He was the high-king of the Noldor plus in his combat with Sauron, the heat from Sauron's body burned him...and if I'm not mistaken blew him to smithereens...could it be are own gil-galad?

Durelin
12-07-2006, 12:20 PM
Congratulations, Macalaure!

You get to continue the thread. :D

Finwe was indeed the answer! Though those all were some excellent guesses. Some of them almost convinced me that's what I really meant... ;)

Macalaure
12-07-2006, 03:38 PM
Wow! My first guess on this thread and already a right one!

Thanks Durelin.

Soon after the worst came to the downs, a goddess emerged.

Thinlómien
12-08-2006, 02:47 AM
Well, my first thought was "soon after Nogrod came to the 'downs, JennyHallu emerged", since she really joined just after him... :D

Anyway, I have a feeling I know what you're talking about, but I can't just come up with the name... back to research, that is.

Macalaure
12-09-2006, 05:00 AM
It's not Jenny, but you're thinking along the right lines.

Folwren
12-11-2006, 11:15 AM
Is fairychick101 the first part of your clue?

mormegil
12-11-2006, 12:30 PM
Folwren, mainly because I'm a jerk I might take that clue and guess

Valier

She joined only a couple days after Fairychick and she is from Canada just like Mac so I can see the tie in that way too.

Macalaure
12-11-2006, 04:25 PM
You have it!

Valier is the first major Downer to introduce herself on the Welcome-thread after Fairychick, who is the (unbanned) member with the worst reputation.

And 'Goddess' is more or less the translation of 'Valier'.

PS: You're making me curious, morm. What makes you think I'm Canadian (for I am none)? :p

mormegil
12-11-2006, 06:07 PM
My assumption was my conclusion. ;) :D

Next clue:

I'm your worst nightmare, well not really.

Oh and thanks and sorry to Folwren. ;)

Valier
12-11-2006, 08:12 PM
Wow I can't believe someone actually did me as a question, it feels nice. :D

And how about Legolas in spandex for a guess at yours Morm. That is kinda a worst nightmare, but not really. teehee ;)

mormegil
12-11-2006, 10:35 PM
Nope but a good comical guess.

Boromir88
12-11-2006, 10:52 PM
Would that be Hookbill the Goomba? I recently had a nightmare about fraud Hookbill...but Hookbill in general really isn't a nightmare. He's a funny and creative guy.

12-11-2006, 11:15 PM

Hmmm, could it be Macalaure? I remember you saying something like this in one of the ww games we were in.

Valier
12-13-2006, 11:50 AM
Ahhhh good job Naria!!! It was a Simpsons reference to Troy Macalaure. The thread is yours!

Naria
12-18-2006, 10:52 PM
Two guesses that's it?! Well, I'm glad somebody finally decided to ask for a clue at least.

Ok, this person doesn't have to do with an actual kaleidoscope. However, everything I said is about this person's character which is a HUGE hint in itself.

I do hope that more people will at least try this one :D

How about Mark 12_30?

Ummm should I just tell everyone who it is so this thread can keep moving?

Valier
12-28-2006, 02:03 PM
Could you maybe give us a little more of a specific clue? I would like one more go at it... :D

Naria
12-28-2006, 03:24 PM
Ok ok, it has everything to do with this person's avvie :D

Kath
12-28-2006, 03:28 PM
Maybe Nogrod? His avvie looks like something you might see through a kaleidescope.

mormegil
12-28-2006, 04:03 PM
Or Feanor's new avvie.

Naria
12-28-2006, 04:23 PM
Kath, Morm...you're both wrong.

Try Googling kaleidoscopic dance and reading up on what it is. This is my final clue :p :D

Nogrod

Cailín, to be sure! That's all shining there...

Yes, yes it would. I'm including Valier's in there too :D

Thinlómien
02-20-2007, 05:19 PM
Simply because she's born on St. Patrick's day and on St. Patrick's day you tend to drink, parade and wear green, at least in Ireland. So, when they do all this on March 17th, you can think they're doing it for Celuien.

Celuien
02-20-2007, 05:20 PM
Please explain why it is Celuien, I'm still confused on it.
Because my birthday is March 17, which is St. Patrick's Day. :D

Thinlómien
03-13-2007, 08:47 AM
??? I got some of it?

Does "three parts" mean "donkey", "burnt" and "spicy"?

Volo

No. It's the steps you have to take to get to the answer.

Volo
03-21-2007, 07:41 AM

Thinlómien
03-22-2007, 06:48 AM
Well to be honest I have no clue, but I guess for the sake of guessing... Unfortunately the only'downer that comes to my mind when thinking about on Quijote is me because of the old sig of mine... But I have no idea what would "burnt" or "spicy" have to do with me... Anyway, I guess me then.

Volo
03-22-2007, 07:01 AM
No, wrong! A not so well known member, but certainly has something to do with Don Quijote.

Thinlómien
03-22-2007, 07:03 AM
Not so well known? A pity, since my next guesses would have been Squatter and SPM... (don't ask why)

Volo
03-22-2007, 07:21 AM
Why?

And not so well known at least to me. I'm sure that you all know the member much better...

Eomer of the Rohirrim
03-22-2007, 09:03 AM
Anguirel? I wouldn't say donkey-hot, just regular hot. And Don Quijote I am not familiar with but it's something about chivalry which sounds very Ang; and spicy...spicy...isn't that a buzz-word meaning thrilling or breathtaking?

;)

Mithalwen
03-22-2007, 11:48 AM
There are at least two downers with Don Quixote sigs. Curiously (for me at least) they share the dubious privilege of having RPG characters marry my RPG characters (my "type" in RPG land is clearly Cervantes fan - Glirdan that is where Leoflic went wrong.... :p ).

So I will guess either Garen LiLorian or Envinyatar.

Volo
03-22-2007, 01:56 PM
Indeed, didn't notice Garen's... But Mith is right! Envinyatar it is!

Mithalwen
03-22-2007, 02:28 PM

Robbie the Reindeer, Part 1 in the singular

Hookbill the Goomba
03-22-2007, 03:08 PM
Rhod the Red?

The 'singular' of Robbie I took to mean 'Rob' which sounded simelar to 'Rhod' and the 'Red' seemed reminiscent of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer... so... yes.

Mithalwen
03-22-2007, 03:11 PM
Nice idea but nope ... simpler maybe?

mormegil
03-22-2007, 03:57 PM
Firefoot

Hooves of Fire in the singular is Hoof of Fire, hoof being a foot of an animal and it's rather clever because Firefoot is the name of a horse and our beloved member so it fits rather well in many respects. Of course, having said that I'll be wrong. :D

Mithalwen

Well done Morm... spot on.

Hooves of Fire was the title of the first Robbie the Reindeer animated short...so the answer, when made singular is indeed Firefoot (http://www.toonhound.com/hooves.htm)

Volo

Ok, not Nogrod?

Finwe then?

All my guesses are connected to the eternity of the PTs.

Gil-Galad is the immortal psyche.

Nogrod is the unperishable flame. The flame that labours mightly creating. And a flame needs to "draw breath" from air, but since there is no air to that flame, it should "lose its breath".

Finwe is part GG, part Nogrod...

Eomer of the Rohirrim
04-30-2007, 03:21 PM
The 'labour mightily' part is much more down-to-earth and stereotypical than immortality and all that.

A real worker.

The 'breath' part is just an amusing thought that may come from literal reading.

Gandalf_theGrey. Gandalf the Grey died - not because he lost the battle with the Balrog but because he did not turn and run while he could have.

It is not Gandalf the White because that was after he returned, and Gandalf the White didn't die.

I was tempted into trying Boromir as well...also Fingolfin...but those both fought, and they both died because they fought and lost, but also becasue they didn't run. And yet, part of the clue is that it's not because they fought and lost... Gandalf seemed to be the only reasonable answer. I'll try again though...do more thinking.
