Well, yes... but I thought, when it has come to this state, it makes no sense to press on it now. And not now over Christmas and such... I say we let this run to the end, but of course I urge everybody to try to make it in the three days as has been the original set-up. If somebody forgets their sketchbook or whatever, okay, that happens. But for the sake of making it at least by January, I really appeal on you all to take your part as responsibly as you can.

But TGEW, when do you think you could send your picture?

You see, Legate, if I were modding this, I'd have kicked TGEW out by now. :p
Well, maybe not. But I would have send some darned angry PMs. :D

I know that it would make no sense to start enforcing strickt rules at this stage, but for the next game I think the mod needs to be a bit strickt.

It is not fair to the people who wants to play, that they have to wait so many months for the game to end. . .

If TGEW does not submit a picture by the end of Monday, I suggest swapping her with someone else. Leave a space open at the end if she still wishes to participate, though.

Sorry to sound harsh, Greaty, but we need to get this game going before we all rot away. :(

Well sure, but I think I should have done that when such a problem occured for the first time. Which was already sometime in the first round. If I was generous in giving people time already on the first round, it made no sense to me to suddenly start being too strict. But it is true that everybody managed to send the call to me at least in a week, if not in the limit.

The point was that TGEW said she has the picture ready. But I cannot let people wait forever, so unless TGEW makes contact, Monday is the latest and I will probably swap her with somebody. The problem is, though, that I won't see much help in that: people are going to be busy around Christmas, and even though Hookbill seems to be the one active ;) he is the one to write, which is what we don't need right now. We need somebody to draw.

So I've been harassing TGEW, but apparently her computer is in the shop now, broken.

However, she said she would be going to her Aunt's house later today where she would have access to a scanner; which means she should send off her call sometime tonight. Well, that's what she said.

All right. Looks good :) Now, I am not sure whether will Lommy be able to draw the picture as fast as Hookbill did write the sentence, but hopefully she will find a bit of time on the days of Christmas preparations and celebrations... in any case, I hope we will go in the steady pace from now on (i.e. in 2-3 days on each picture). We could be getting it done after the New Year... (or if everybody is extra fast, then even before it! :) )

This is really a difficult one. . . The text I come up with, seems to resemble stuff from Crazy Captions a bit too much.

Which is not necessarily bad at all!

All right, people! We are done! Let's roll!!!

************************************************** ************************************************** ****

This year's first and the last year's last Paper Telephone started with a quite innocent sentence:

"When the number of unexpected guests at Bag-End reached dangerous size, Bilbo realised his only chance is to break the law."

Which was depicted by THE Ka, thus:

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/2c6803b1.jpg

One can imagine that after seeing it, TheGreatElvenWarrior was seemingly puzzled. After putting herself together, she wrote this:

"A puzzled Gandalf looks into the window of an ice cube factory to find dwarves, but only finds a drunken hobbit (with tea) who has OLENT GREEN coming towards him."

Hookbill had not paid his bill to Captain Hook, and before Peter Pan rescued him from the pirate ship, out of frustration, he has drawn this picture:

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/4495c35d.jpg

Lommy shot out a sentence with a completely new caliber. Such weapons often backfire, though:

"To Gandalf the Shopkeeper's consternation, Greenie lost her meaning when Alien ate a part of her, and this was enough of a reason for a Hobbitish Nogrod to start drinking coffee and wine until he passed out."

That was well acknowledged by Eönwë, who, in preparation for the War of Wrath, decided to kill Morgoth by making him laugh to death:

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/55a46534.jpg

Before anyone could react, Greenie took initiative. The horror of Paper Telephone, as well as Isengard, has been unleashed.

"Nogrod faints in his house for, to the shock of a profit-centered wizard, Greenie suffers from an identity crisis because Alien ate a piece of her elbow."

Legate of Amon Lanc
01-19-2009, 10:37 AM
Again, Agan proved a gain against all odds. (Or wens, but that's another topic.)

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/dd07055b.jpg

Upon seeing this masterpiece, Volo wrote the following sentence, to which his companion Sam Gamgee could react only with feeble "Master Volo, no":

"Nogrod faint's into Saruman the Crimson arms after learning that Lommy had now finally achieved her dream of becoming a Hugo Weaving look-alike. Alien, on the other hand, learned that Greenie's elbow is the sweetest thing ever."

Laurinquë was in a quëër situation, but that did not prevent her from making the following picture:

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/1d49dc36.jpg

Everybody knows Nogrod was never into writing sensible sentences. This is why we took him in for the job.

"Alien spoils the photo-op of a fancy-dress 'Downer meeting by attacking Greenie the air hostess trying to take a pic of Aganzir the red wizard, Rune the hobbit and Legate the indie rock star."

It happened to Form that somebody saw his picture before it was sent. They did not like it, and attacked poor Form. After being beaten for a long time, he kind of lost his Form. But the picture remained unharmed.

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/a202f050.jpg

Naz wanted to write the sentence together with her friend Gul. Unfortunately, Gul had another job to do for their friend Mor. So, Naz decided to write the sentence alone:

"The Employee of Greenie Airlines asks the band AgRuLe to "watch the Nessie," but the gleeful sea serpent is too busy laughing at Legate's Farmer Giles of Ham getup."

Legate of Amon Lanc

Runne sonn off Bjarrnne did drraw sommething likke thiss:

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/a5259285.jpg

THE Ka had to look at the picture twice to realise what is she supposed to describe. When it did not help, she looked thrice. When even that did not help, she looked frice, which I consider a very good word that should be included in the language and I have no idea why all you people are looking at me like that.

"After the Saruman fiasco, Grima decided to reinvent his pocketbook by reuniting the Rohan farmers' favorite: Ag Rule, with special guest Leonard the Laquacious Liopleurodon."

When she received the sentence, TGEW was just visiting her cousin, TWEG, and her uncle, TEWG. When her friends, WGET, EGWT, and GTEW started to come too, she decided it is better after all to make the picture, and so she did.

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/fd9f8c2c.jpg

Hookbill was again on the pirate ship, you know the stuff.

"It was more than three years since Grima had genetically enhanced his favorite fish. Since then it had gone on to lead a grand career in Rohan's premier rock group. His creator was left out of pocket and bitter."

It was Lommy's turn. So, she turned around and started to draw.

How long was this Paper Telephone! And how odd! Nobody can wonder about why Eönwë wrote what he wrote:

"Things aren't looking good for Denethorenstein as his masterpiece creation, the Cute Catfish of Doom, becomes the lead singer in "the Symbelmynë Brothers", the king of Rohan's own rock band, and leaves his penniless creator for fame, riches and glory."

A Little Green made just a little picture, and you can find at least two green things on it. (I know, I know, but you must realise this just had to be included.)

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/10b224f6.jpg

Aganzir, on the other hand, had nothing green in her sentence:

"Denethor is sad because his catfish decided to form a band with Théoden."

After drawing the following picture, Volo had the right to call himself Volo de Mort.

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/06bd98fe.jpg

This image was passed to Laurinquë. Had we known what is going to become of it, we'd have thought twice before doing that.

"After throughly insulting the last participant; Gondor's Got Talent hosts Goldie the Goldfish and Steve the Swordfish welcome the next contestant: Denethor Magnificent."

Nogrod was really not sure what to draw. In the end, he decided to draw a sword and kill everyone. After doing this, he produced the following artwork.

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/48bfb1b9.jpg

Legate of Amon Lanc
01-19-2009, 10:41 AM
Formendacil only quickly wrote the following sentence and then left for mending a cil, whatever it is.

"Middle-earth Idol diversifies its musical genres when Denethor follows Pippin's horrid solo with a food-induced, belching rendition of "The Drumstick Song.""

This was the end for Naz. Supplying herself with paper, pencils and all the necessary stuff, she left for the Himalayas to dwell in a mountain sanctuary for the rest of her life, supplying the world with works such as this:

http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd339/polomaci/pt/538e324f.jpg

Seeing that, Rune could only evaluate the situation by stating:

"There was much weeping when Dagor Dargorath turned out to be much more horrific than anyone had imagined."

Legate, that was an excelent starting sentence! :D
Ka's picture was incredibly good, as usual. Still not sure what OLENT GREEN is...

I was surprised at how long Alien managed to hang around this time. Oh that little creature gets everywhere...

Agan's work was spectacular! All the colours!

Nogrod's sentence made me laugh an awful lot! Good work!

Laurinquë's picture was fantastic! The expressions on the characters' faces were priceless.

Lommy's mutant fish was very impressive!

Oh, there's so much good work here! Rune, you couldn't have finished it better. ;)

OH MY GOD.

:------D

Well, Ka's pic was great
and it was hilarious how Bilbo became Nog
and Lauri's picture was wonderful
and I was laughing all along but what really, really cracked me up was Nog's sentence and the transformation of Lommy into Legate. Although do I really look like that?

Good job with portraying the band Rune. I find it surprising how often I've had to tell Downers lately that I don't wear evening gowns, though. :p

Lommy's fish is hilarious.

It's funny that the catfish I first drew in my picture made a reappearance later.

Thankses Hookie. Yours was great too. :)

Good work everyone, and thanks to Legate for modding.

Good things really are worth waiting for!

I do indeed doubt if these would be this fun if we had them every week... But yes, I must admit I laughed aloud with this (in a pub where I'm sitting right now with my laptop - you should have seen the other customers' faces...).

The initial sentence was really a good one Legate! But the Ka owes us an explanation for the "olent green" -thing to be sure.

I found all this "Greenie losing her meaning" -stuff absolutely hilarious! And hats off to Aganzir: that place is my home, especially the details, except the plant which is a bit weird (and one can recognize Greenie and me from there - I'm actually wearing the shirt from the picture right now!).

And as others have already said, Lauri's pic is just pure gold! And yes Agan, as the thought of that being a Downer-meeting came to me the red wizard looked like you more than any other I could think of - which is not to say the resemblance is great but still it was the best fitting.

Rune's Nessie is just awesomely cute!

Aganzir, Rune & Legate = Ag Ru Le = Ag Rule = Agrule = The Simbelmynë Brothers! ;)

Lommy, you're great drawing faces but you probably should practise a bit for the guitars... But Denethorenstein? :D

And the ending is just soo bad! In a good way that is.

Very good, everyone! Very much fun, everyone!

A Little Green
01-19-2009, 12:36 PM
Well, that certainly was worth waiting for!

Laurinquë's pic was great, as well as Agan's, and Form's made me laugh aloud for a ridiculously long time. :D

I love Lommy's Gríma. And Eönwë's me looks deceivingly like the chairwoman of the Finnish social democratic party... :p I like how Lommy turns into Legate and how the catfish is lurking in the background in Agan's pic and then appears later as the lead singer of a band.

Great round. Loved it!

Thinlómien

What a lovely round. :D

I guess I have to explain, though. I was mightily baffled by that "olent" in Hookbill's picture, especially as Alien there looks like he's eating. For "olento" in Finnish means "creature", so I immediately thought there's just one o missing and logically, Alien has eaten it. :D And then, "green creature" is obviously Greenie (and she loses her meaning by losing the final o of "olento"), and this led me to decide that the hobbit is Nogrod - there's a resemblance, really!

And as for my picture, I know Gríma looks like Denethor. But I had problems in deciding what he should look like; weirdly enough, I don't have a very clear picture of his appearance. I always kind of liked Brad Dourif's Gríma, so I decided to go for something like that - but I thought he'd better have eyebrows, and that his hair should be grayish and blonde by all logic, not black. So that's why he ended up looking like Denethor. ;)

Agan's and Lauri's pictures were pure art. Greenie's catfish, Form's Greenie and Rune's Nessie made me laugh very much. Of the sentences, THE Ka's was absolutely the best, it was so inventive and made me laugh aloud. *happy smile*

Yes, PT makes me happy. *grin* Speaking of which, who is the next mod? S/he should put me on the list...!!!

I wonder if there was any PT for the last... let's say, a year... where either Alien or Phantom (or both) would appear...

Rune, you couldn't have finished it better.
Indeed, definitely!

and it was hilarious how Bilbo became Nog
Yes, it was quite funny and I did not quite get it. Moreover, he became Rune later :D

I do indeed doubt if these would be this fun if we had them every week... But yes, I must admit I laughed aloud with this (in a pub where I'm sitting right now with my laptop - you should have seen the other customers' faces...).

Yes, you can imagine how shocked I was when I actually saw the picture for the first time! Oh my, it was brilliant!

Lommy, you're great drawing faces but you probably should practise a bit for the guitars...
I actually like Théoden's guitar, it has really, really, really interesting shape :D

Laurinquë's pic was great, as well as Agan's, and Form's made me laugh aloud for a ridiculously long time.
I was actually amazed by Lauri's picture, even as it came right after Aganzir's. And as for Form's one, I wonder whether it's not determined by age: for I was not that amused by it, but my brother (who is about the same age as Greenie) also kept laughing at it for a very long amount of time.

I really enjoyed everybody's pictures (and sentences!), but as nobody did that yet, I would like to point out also Naz's picture. That one I find really hilarious (and there it was where my brother and me were laughing together for a ridiculous amount of time).

As for modding, I must say I quite liked that, but I would prefer now to draw again for a change. So, whoever wants to do it next...

I thought that Aganzir's sentense was by far the best. . .I thought it was perfect! It described what was on the drawing, but still left it open to interpretation.

There where so many great pictures, I was truly amazed. . .Especially Lommy's fish blew me away.

Thanks. I try to write sentences I'd like to draw myself - it can be annoying to get very long ones with lots of stuff, practically just a description of what exactly is happening in the previous pic.
Maybe the fact that I usually concentrate much more on the pictures than the sentences has something to do with my preferences though.

By the way, the next mod might want to give a bit stricter orders as to when the pics & sentences must be submitted. I mean this time it got rather out of hand at times.

I've been watching this thread for the past month or so, and it's got me interested. It seems a bit daunting with so many great artists on the Downs, not to mention I'm a perfectionist who takes hours longer than necessary to finish a piece of artwork. Personally, my life is busy enough with things that I didn't find the last game to be all that bad for pacing, complaints though there were, so I'm not see that taking too long is SUCH a bad thing... and yes, we want you to try.

THE Ka

I guess I have to explain, though. I was mightily baffled by that "olent" in Hookbill's picture, especially as Alien there looks like he's eating. For "olento" in Finnish means "creature", so I immediately thought there's just one o missing and logically, Alien has eaten it. And then, "green creature" is obviously Greenie (and she loses her meaning by losing the final o of "olento"), and this led me to decide that the hobbit is Nogrod - there's a resemblance, really!

Lommy, remind me when you can that I'd like you as my brain surgeon, if the need arises. :)

Ka's picture was incredibly good, as usual. Still not sure what OLENT GREEN is...

This is what it is: the 'S' in Olent (http://eureka3d.com/fauxnews/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/soylent_green07.jpg).

Ignore the facts, it's just good for you. I promise.

Sorry for not getting back to this thread in such a long time, I've been stuck in a pattern of working at night and sleeping all day, or generally going nocturnal for the winter.
Thanks for the compliments of course.

We descend into the maddening world of paper telephone with this strange picture found carved into a tablet of stone in ancient Mesopotamia. It was clearly a precursor of The Children of Hurin.

http://i43.tinypic.com/2wgsuh1.png

Lommy made mince meat of the picture. Then decided to write about it.

Thanks to Smaug and his little brother, King Elessar is having a really bad day

Thanks to Aganzir, there was no turning back. Or something?

http://i43.tinypic.com/9vi0z9.jpg

Legate ate a leg. Well, what can I say? Puns are scares in these troubled economic times.

When Boromir left for Rivendell to undergo an eye operation, the Glaugung Guys Gruesome Gourmet Gang broke loose.

A Green. A Little Green. Yes. Well, we found this picture in the ruins of her house.

http://i39.tinypic.com/2dtsjde.jpg

Nogrod was feeling ill. Very ill. In fact, he died. This is what was written on his tomb stone;

"A squared Boromir is trying to reach Rivendell for Elrond to open his eyes but five Glaurung's hatchlings pouring out from boxes have other ideas."

Hookbill the Goomba

Odd is the oddest thing in oddvill. When this came to pass, the Oddwen appeared in the land. She bore this picture on her face;

http://i39.tinypic.com/2cgg0so.jpg

Beregond decided it was time he took matters into his own hands. So he killed the king, flooded the Shire and ate a Dwarf. Not sure what he achieved doing this. In his defence he told the court;

"Bombur the Geometric finds the path to Minis Ithil guarded by an army of pre-boxed miniature dragons."

When it came to Laurinquë, Sauron was at her door. He just wanted some spare change, but instead she gave him this;

http://i40.tinypic.com/24bm0jb.jpg

Formy had four men to kill. So he did. All the police found on the bodies were these words, written in biro across their foreheads.

The Da Vinci hobbit stumbles onto the Lilliputian toyland of Radagast, only to find it already set alight by the dark forces of not-so-distant Minas Morgul.

Brinniel found it all a bit weird. But despite the fact she was in prison for crimes against humanity, she managed to draw this on the inside of her cellmate’s intestines.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2vkhhd5.jpg

For Rune, there was nothing better than a nice cup of tea. But we soon put a stop to that. As he was dragged away, he was heard screaming;

“Radagast briefly re-named Rhosgobel, but the name was so silly that a coalition of Hobbits and Ringwraiths burned it down”

Hookbill the Goomba
03-19-2009, 11:05 AM
Eönwë found the magical portal to the land of dreams. That’s what I took from this picture anyway…

http://i44.tinypic.com/339pws7.jpg

wilwarin538 beat up wilwarin537 with a massive bat. As they both tumbled off a cliff, locked in mortal combat, they both screamed out;

Frodo, Samwise, and an oddly shaped and graffitied Nazgul, all armed with torches, join forces to set a flame to Radagast the Brown's tree-like greenhouse, in rebellion to the recent name change from Rhosgobel to This.

And thus ended part one!

Lommy started us off again with a picture as strange as her mind…

http://i40.tinypic.com/6t3fxc.jpg

Aganzir ran for the hills, cackling as the angry mob chased her. She danced and sang as they burned the forest behind her. She later told the King,

“Hobbits and a rock want to burn down a tree that promotes the greenhouse effect.”

Legate was thrown out of his house and made to walk the streets wearing a sandwich board that looked like this;

http://i39.tinypic.com/ibmbzr.jpg

A Little Green massed an army on the western coast. They grew so massive they exploded, leaving a blood stain that spelled out these words;

Orcs and Hobbits, supervised by Radagast, join forces to destroy a palm tree who looks forward to it.

Hookbill the Goomba
03-19-2009, 11:06 AM
Nogrod took up the baton. He was then thrown in prison for theft.

http://i40.tinypic.com/2lvcqau.jpg

Oddwen was granted eternal life. The special incantation she used went something like;

Radagast the Brown leads a mob of hobbits against a fruity Southern Ent, while a troupe of zombie orcs can't decide which to attack.

Beregond had some ideas above his station. It was a weather station after all…

http://i41.tinypic.com/2pyt7b9.jpg

Brinniel was not used to being fired out of a cannon. But that’s what happened. All she said as she flew was;

Radagast accused Treebeard of raising the dead while the hobbits did battle with an army of zombies

Formendacil was something of an optimist. We soon put a stop to that. In his padded cell he managed to draw this on the walls…

http://i40.tinypic.com/6roxaq.jpg

Eönwë took it all very seriously… No, not really. I was just making sure you were still listening. Reading. Thing.

Saruman of Ye Blacke Staffe commandeth ye hobbittes to raise the dead men of Dunharrow while an Ent looks on in disdain

Hookbill the Goomba
03-19-2009, 11:06 AM
Rune came next to the gallows. He was hung for the crime of drawing this picture;

http://i41.tinypic.com/vdlqg0.jpg

Laurinquë forgot what she was supposed to do and so hired a wizard to do it instead. He refused and threw her into the firry vortex of doom. As she fell, she cried;

“The pernicious Radicand the Brown initiates his hideous Hobbit Raising subterfuge with Cauliflower Man and the Quality Oath Breakers Alliance to control the minds of all hobbits in Frogmorton and bend them into doing his evil bidding.”

So, it all came to a head. wilwarin538‘s head, to be precise. When the doctors cracked it open, they found this sewn to her brain;

http://i41.tinypic.com/a29phx.jpg

That was how it ended. As time dances away, another paper telephone is ended. Who will be in the next one? Only Barry knows.

wilwarin538

Awesome!

I must say I wondered how can someone have drawn an "oddly shaped and graffitied Nazgûl" but now I understand. What I can't understand is that I didn't get the obvious Túrin references... *headdesk* :D

I loved it all. I like all the dragons in the pictures, they're incredibly cute and Legate's, Nogrod's and Beregond's trees are gorgeous too (and wilwa's cauliflower as well ;)) and so is pretty much everything else (Brinn's and Eönwë's nazgûl!) but what I actually liked the best was Rune's sentence. Thanks everybody, and Hookbill of course especially! :)

Hey, that was fun! Aside from the apparent masterpieces art-wise, I find Lommy's graffited Nazgul and wilwa's CM incredibly cuuute :D Although what I liked really the most was the portrayal of Bombur the Geomethric :D (but also the square-shaped characters). I just loved Form's picture, though, and Eönwë's consequent sentence ("Saruman of Ye Blacke Staffe commandeth..." :D ) And I also like Hookbill's original pic a lot.

By the way, when looking at it, I found it interesting that on my picture, Radagast reappeared again (even though he was already not in the text anymore by then).

That was a really excellent round. I was particularly impressed with the palm trees and Radagast's (and Rhosgobel's) frequent visits, despite my best efforts to re-christen him Radicand. Love your picture Beregond. Aganzir too.

That was fun. It's interesting to see how the telephone developed into the sentence/drawing you were given, and see what it became after answering the call.

Everyone's drawings/sentences were so amusing. I must say Beregond's picture is my favourite. Though I loved Hookbill, Aganzir, and Nogrod's drawings as well. Good work to everyone. It's good to have a laugh and while it was a long wait, it was worth it. :)

I also noticed that while the drawing is so much more time consuming, it's so much easier to come up with an image than a sentence!

03-20-2009, 10:19 PM
Hehe, great round! :D

But wait...where was Alien? Phantom appeared, but no Alien! In a paper telephone?

And did I say Minis Ithil? Must have been the painkillers.

I was surprised with the similarities between Nog's pic and mine: the tree on the right, hobbit weapons, Orcs in the background, and pointing Radagasteses (in fact three drawings in a row feature a pointing Radagand!).

Brilliant Cauliflower, wilwarin.

Way to think outside the box, Rune (raising the dead, indeed)!

Everyone's drawings were ace this round, but I especially liked Agan's, Hookbill's, Lauri's and Oddwen's.

Final thoughts: recurring themes, in this and past rounds, seem to be Radagast, ents, and Nazgul.

By the way, Nogrod, why is one of the Orcs a Cyclope? :D

Other than the generally brilliant pieces of artwork, some of the more specific highlights of pictures and sentence for me were Nogrod's tree, Laurinquë's Vitruvian Bombur and Aganzir's, Greenie's and Rune's sentences, but to name a few.

PS. Do I take it you Hookbill will take this round or are you seriously offering me a squaremile or two somewhere? :)

Well, I was thinking of getting a massive skip full of soil delivered to your house. You seen, I don't have time for modding, mainly because sourcing a massive skip and some soil is taking up most of my day. ;)

Nogrod

I don't have time for moddingSo you have time for taking part then. I'll add you to the list. :) (Oh, you were there already..., sorry)

The list of players:

Right you are sir.

By the way Greenie I love your sig.

Nogrod
04-03-2009, 06:10 PM
Okay we have twelve participants right now - and that is probably quite enough for a decent double round... Let's say we give a couple of days to the "late-awakers" and then we begin?

TheGreatElvenWarrior
Laurinquë
wilwarin538
Eönwë
Hookbill
Legate
Mnemosyne
Isabellkya
Oddwen
Lommy
Greenie
Aganzir

Anyone wishing to join, please do it! This is no art-competition where only the best can apply but more like fun we all celebrate with each other.

A couple of days to brave yourselves to get involved in a lots of fun... and then it will be too late - this time. :)

Brinniel

I was trying to debate whether I'll have enough time, but meh. I'll do it. I notice this moves at fairly slow pace, so there's a chance I'll be finished with my most stressful projects by the time it's my turn to draw anyway.

Consider yourself in Form. And welcome.

But in fact we would be much better off with an uneven number of participants. So anyone wishing to join please come forwards!

I'll put you into the list within a few days Form, but I'll first wait if someone still joins and makes making the list a bit easier. :)

It's almost two weeks since Eönwë was last online...If he doesn't appear in a few days would you Naz take his place?

Let's wait for a day or two anyway... but not indefinitively.

Nogrod
04-16-2009, 01:53 PM
I sent a PM to Naz three days ago asking if she would take Eönwë's place. She hasn't received the PM (and neither has Eönwë). If neither of them answers in a day or two I'll send Wilwa's sentence to Hookbill and modify the lists accordingly (the order in which you write and draw will then turn upside down with those who have not done anything yet).

In that case I hope we'd get either of them or someone else to take one place in the end of the list to make the number of participants remain uneven as that is the easiest way to control this thing.

So thumbs up!

And if anyone knows either of them outside the 'Downs could you please ask them (Naz or Eönwë) to take contact?

TheGreatElvenWarrior
04-17-2009, 02:58 PM

Nogrod

I'll send the sentence to Hookbill in something like 24 hours (little less I presume) unless Naz or Eönwë come around before that.

Nogrod
05-12-2009, 12:12 PM
Greenie has had her theater-production's premiere yesterday and they will have shows for a few days to come.

But then again, it's just a sentence, so she should be able to do it.

Keep up the pressure Lommy! :)

You "Facebookers" could remind her about it?

Aganzir

Nogrod
05-27-2009, 04:20 PM
(I think you could get an account there too, though. ;))Yes, I could...

I've nothing against it as such, just that I fear a Facebook account would take too much of my time that seems to be so scarce anyway...

But as it is looking like it is where most of the at-the-moment-communication nowadays happens (an e-mail is soo slow and outdated no-one checks them any more) I maybe forced to do it... just to get to the people when I need to find them.

Interesting changes in our culture, but understandable. I hate it having to check three or five different places behind a username and a code to find out what I should know myself as well. One shared place would be fine.

So bye-bye choice?

Nogrod
08-03-2009, 11:06 AM
Nogrod started with an experiment on how fast a simple picture with only a few twists would turn into something totally weird and unfathomable… Even if there clearly were a few different interpretations available during the first rounds they somehow always came back to the original theme. But the wealth of widespread artistic styles sure make the first rounds worthwhile even if the main theme kind of lulled to and fro with minor steps… but this wouldn’t be a Paper Telephone if it wouldn’t run amok at some stage. And well, it really did! With the help of Morgoth it was indeed corrupted stage by stage as you can see.

So here’s what Nogrod managed to draw with his Paint. You know, when middle-aged men are given free hands to do whatever they wish this is the best they can come up with…

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/PT109.jpg

TheGreatElvenWarrior should be given the “keenest eyes ever” –reward for spotting that unlit torch from the darkness.

“As he walks into Shelob's cave, Frodo's torch decides not to work.”

“Mehr licht” called Goethe when he died. Laurinque agreed – and a touch of a female eye to interior design is never out of place.

Wilwa dived spot-on to the core of the matter: the gender issue!

“A feminine Frodo Baggins, armed with a flashlight, approaches Shelob in her very homey cave.”

Being male and all, Hookbill clearly struggled with trying to visualize a “homey” cave, so he went with a typical men’s solution eg. to his childhood and his mom.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/papperystuff.jpg

Legate then rushed on to reveal the whole depth of his learning in popular culture: The ‘Downer (which indeed is a nice crossbreed of Alien movies and Phantom cartoons!), The LotR, The Simpsons and The Star Wars.

“After Alien once again buried Phantom underground, Shelob the Chef lured the crossbreed of Frodo and Luke Skywalker armed with a flashlight into her lair.”

Nogrod

Eönwë went with the mood – and the complexity of the situation – being the literary guy he is.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/EnwsPapertelephone6.png

But Mnemosyne was even deeper into the Star Wars mythology – but less knowledgeable of the ‘Downer. Which probably is the wrong order of priorities.

“Alien infiltrates a crack!AU!crossover of The Two Towers and The Empire Strikes Back, so that in the "enter the cave, face your enemies, and discover yourself" phase of the myth, Frodo will not see his own face after striking Shelob down, but Phantom's.”

Isabellkya was very true to the Star Wars but all her nice and laborous hints were overlooked… which would be sad if this wasn’t a Tolkien fan-site where we consider her pic’s fate as just decent. (Frodo beats Luke a Gazillion times, right?)

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/PaperT.jpg

So as hinted already, Oddwen brought things back into the LotR – although there were clearly some major disturbances in the force… umm… in Eru’s graceful design…? Blame it to Morgoth.

“Samwise bravely attacked Shelob with a lightsaber and glowing clam, however Shelob is confident despite her severed leg and breaks the fourth wall.”

Clearly it was the work of Morgoth as Lommy managed to call in the next item… it was indeed something completely different.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/051.jpg

So Greenie’s attempt was doomed to failure even before she concentrated into the pic. The Circus was let loose.

“A jedi Sam is in trouble fighting a surprisingly powerful Monty Python -freak Shelob.”

Nogrod

One can see the powers of the other Valar trying to retake control in Aganzir’s pic – but the dissonance is visible enough to carry further... cancer-like, it is.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/pt12.jpg

And the dissonance grew stronger in the dark recesses of Brinn’s brain and got this kind of literary form:

“Unsheathing his sword, the fat hobbit Samwise Gamgee braced himself as he prepared to overtake the great and ugly She who says....Ni!”

The famous post-modern artist from the late eighties called Formendacil produced a masterpiece. But a question remains: are we positive Form has nothing to do with Bakshi’s animation as well? Maybe he has just lied to us about his age even more? You know, an Inkling and all… Anyway, there was no turning back after this one.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/PapierTelephone.jpg

Morgoth clearly had no liking in High-Culture and whispered the catch-word to Beregond’s ear. And what else did he whisper to him or was it just the sickness of Beregond’s imagination?

“Braving its orange glow, Samwise confronts the hexapod knight who supports women's loos with narry a "Ni".”

Not knowing about Form’s post-modern artistic tendencies The Great Elven Warrior continued his style in her overall presentation of her work. Was that Gandalf’s brave last try to twist Morgoth’s plan (all evil loves classicism!)? Anyway the corruption was now holding the purity firmly on the edge.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/PTTabbyHanson.jpg

Laurinque was clearly overrun by the evil bringing in politics and fear. Melkor had championed over the prof.!

“A terrified Samwise quakes in fear at the prospect of having to assault the utterly fearsome, pro-British National Party (which happens to support women’s loos), Hexapod Knight.”

Nogrod

Wilwa was clearly revealed to be a Brit and not a Canadian… The opinions differ into whether that is delightful and splendid… or just bad news.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/pt.jpg

Lommy went deeper into crushing Tolkien’s work. The gender-politics Wilwa had unknowingly called forwards a long time ago got finally named, and at the same time the male hero was greatly diminished - as the common status of men (unless you're a Scot)...

“Robin Smallburrow was frightened by the new feminist British party that even forced knights wear skirts.”

Legate had a clear view of how feminists look like and tried to hold true to the sentence not having the faintest of how Melkor would twist his work…

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/ptdoubleukrijun09.jpg

Aganzir seeemed to be liberally gender indifferent and that was the weak-spot Melkor hit into, diminishing the male heroes even more…

“Nogrod and Legate think crusaders should quit harassing hobbits.”

Mnemosyne had willpower enough to stay the course and tried to bring forwards some dignity… but what seeds of further discrepancy did she sow!

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/PaperTelephone.jpg

With Isabellkya it was all lost. Now where’s all the decency? What would have the prof said of this?!

“Nog and TUD (The Unidentifiable Downer), express outrage at the lack of humanity over the headline story in the latest issue of The Downer newspaper - which features SPM the Crusader repetitively pestering the miniature curly brown-haired girl; while wearing a sharp and intimidating sword.”

Nogrod
08-03-2009, 11:09 AM
Oddwen tried straightforward tactics putting the moral message into the headline. You can see her calling help from the higher powers in there! There is hope! And note the nice copy of my earlier Facebook pic! (the beard though…)

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/papertelephone071901.jpg

Or there was hope before Hookbill took his turn. The infamous yellow journalism had a total triumph!

“Mr Underhill's usual morning ritual of staring at a bearded man was interupted by news of the Saucepan Man's latest 'child beating' fiasco.”

Greenie was squared… sorry, scared about the news and tried to give it the nicest possible interpretation.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/helmipt.jpg

But Eönwë was more into the gore… and anyway totally under influence of something: too much Freud and HP at least, a pinch of Morgoth to be sure.

“A smiling sun looks on as Samwise Gamgee cuts Hagrid's head off with his laser vision while drinking tea, only possible because he watched SpM hitting himself with a carpet beater as a child, according to the strange singing man.”

Brinn tried to bring the PT into the relatively sane trails – if you can call drawing Eönwë’s sentence sane in any measure possible. But she did a decent job there: all the details involved! What wounds this left in Brinn’s soul remains to be seen and studied by anthropologists, psychologists and the students of behaviorism.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc90/NogrodU/IMG_2378.jpg

Did Form just reveal the roots of his true identity and childhood experiences or is this just an evil trick?

“The baby Saucepan Man levitates before an onlooker in the 1930s while Beorn has his head blasted off by the hip young lovechild of Frodo and Cyclops.”

Nogrod

What was left to Beregond was just to wrap it up in a somewhat intelligible fashion – and it proved quite a task. Thence the captions… But it was a brave effort indeed! Even taking in some discussions from the thread!

So there you go! :rolleyes::D

Hookbill the Goomba
08-03-2009, 11:39 AM
Oh my word! So much of this was fantastic!!! :D

Nogrod, were you TRYING to be as vague as possible with that starting picture? Those evil eyes are terrifying, though.

Laurinque continues to produce a wonderful masterpiece for our entertainment. I bow. *bows and falls over*

Thank you, Wilwa, for providing me with such an interesting sentence to deal with... It's a shame no one took on the purple hand coming out of the ground.

I should have guessed that Legate would pick up on Alien's cameo. Oh the humanity.

Eönwë's Frodo looks pretty good. I like the gradient background.

Mnemosyne... Your sentence was EPIC. That is all.

I think that Isabellkya's picture could qualify as a piece of modern art of the highest order. What does the Phantom's appearance in Shelob's eye represent? The downfall of society, of course.

Lommy, did your felt pens explode? Yes, though, it's a great pic.

Aganzir’s Sam is amazing! Without the 'Ni', someone might think it to be an illustration straight from the books!

I think Formy's been drinking...

The Great Elven Warrior's multi-legged night looksstartled by his orange glow. But who wouldn't be?

Wilwa, your Hobbit with a wig was brilliant... wait...

Legate should be assigned to do political satire paintings for a job. ;)

Thanks to Aganzir for bringing us to the inevitable Downs based stream.

Let us all bother Mnemosyne about the obvious Potter Puppet Pals reference.

Oddwen, why did your paper contain so many stories about Beef. *checks back catalogue*, oh, I see. Carry on...

Greenie's picture actually pushed me over the edge into tears of laughter. I love the singing bloke delivering the news!

When I saw Brinn's Baby Saucepan Man I had to take a break for a moment or two. Then I fell over again. Too funny!

Beregond, thank you for remembering that the only way to end something like this is 'AND THE DRAGON IS COMING.'

Excellent work, everyone!

Ahahahaha

Wilwa, your Hobbit with a wig was brilliant... wait...

:p

Wow, that was so funny. Very worth the wait. :D

I looooved Greenie's picture, haha, made me giggle quite a bit.

Izzy's sentence was awesome, especially cause she didn't recognise Legate's avvie, haha.

And Beregond included a Dragon!!!! Whoopie!!! :D

Great job to all!!!

Count me in for the next one!!!

Oh, this was great! Especially the Monty Python references! Brilliant!

Laurinque, that was a lovely pic! I especially loved Frodo, he looks so realistic!

And, now I get where the Hexapod Knight came from. That was the most ridiculous picture I've ever had to draw! Formy must be insane to make a pic like that! Whoa!

EDIT: And, of course I want to join in the next round. I would be insane not to, it's so much fun!:D

And I'm sorry if my sentence scarred you all for life. ;)

Now that was amazing. Just absolutely incredible!

I may need to get my computer repaired; I was sobbing from the hilarity of it and the computer paid the price of my glee. Tears all over the keyboard.

I agree with you Nogrod, I am amazed at the visual acuity of TheGreatElvenWarrior. You must be commended for your amorphous picture.

By the way, Elijah Woods really does have extraordinarily long eyelashes. I couldn't help it. He had to look properly distressed. Oh, and did anyone notice the vintage LOTR poster behind 'Frieda' Baggins? My mother used to have one of those. :(

Lommy, Formendacil - those were just brilliant. I an a great fan of your let's say surreal artwork Formy.

I think glowing knights maybe a speciality of yours TheGreatElvenWarrior, keep it up!

I must say, I believe I enjoyed your drawing the very most Mnemosyne, particularly the avatar-stick figure. That was the last nail in the coffin of my dwindling sanity. Thank you.

Good summery of The Downer Oddwen, I approve.

Hookbill's sentence caused me no end of glee. And resulted in a most amusing drawing by Greenie.

I loved your picture Brinn, I really did. The laser eyes were everything. And Formendacil - that sentence was definitely this round's best. I had to stop reading for a while to recover from it. That IS a complement by the way.

" . . . and the DRAGON is coming . . . " Perfect Beregond! How DID you come up with that? :D

Laurinque continues to produce a wonderful masterpiece for our entertainment. I bow. *bows and falls over*

Thank you, thank you. *falls off the stage to great applause*

Laurinque, that was a lovely pic! I especially loved Frodo, he looks so realistic!

You flatter me. Thank you.

I can only agree that this was totally hilarious at times... already when I got Hookbill's pic I presumed that it will be so and later Lommy's sentence only confirmed that.

Is it just me, or do you think Form's pictures are getting more and more... how to say it... sophisticated...? Really good, that is. As well as the sentence.

Besides his masterpiece, I must say I was once again amazed by the expressivity of especially Lauri's, Isa's, Lommy's and Oddie's paintings.

TGEW's Frodo is quite funny and has a priceless expression!

I like the bubble at Mnemo's pic ("Bother Bother!")... as well as the stick-characters with the avvies instead of their head (though apparently, not enough to recognise all the participants ;) ). For some reason, what Nog says there seems to me as a thing the real Nog would really say...

And I just love Brinn's picture, as much as Greenie's too. Greenie's square people and the obligatory stellar objects watching over the scene are a classic, and I just love poor Hagrid and the eye-killer Samwise.

And Beregond's final one is just hilarious too - I like the Frodo crossbreed and Beorn with his head chopped off, as well as the baby SpM, and the captions everywhere.

And of course thanks to the Nod, sorry, I meant Mog, including the really thoughtfully open opening picture.

Besides his masterpiece,

All this is going straight to my head... I hope you two know that!

Especially since the picture was done as such mostly because, well, MSPaint was my only functional option--no scanner--and I was trying for something other than run-of-the-mill with that limited option. Glad to see it worked.

Personally, though, I don't think you can top Beregond's "and then the dragon came!" and Brinn's floating Saucepan Baby is still my favourite visual.

An excellent round entirely, though.

Do we need a mod for the next game?

Laurinque's Shelob actually made me utter the word "gah!", until I took a second look at her eyes. Then I thought she was cute.

Formy's Hexapod is a psychadelic feast.

Eonwe's sentence and Brinn's following pic are brilliant.

This was a hilarious round and you all should feel as warm and fuzzy as Shelob inside. :D Please to count me into the next round.

Nogrod and Laurinque, while your artistry was quite commendable, I must remind you:

Elijah Wood does not equal Frodo Baggins. Even if that is the best way to get everyone else to recognize him.

I, for one, shall see this as a strike against us Brown-Eyed Frodo activists.

*removes canon glasses*

Now that I've got that off my chest: please sign me up for the next round!

Though I'll request that I be put on writing first so as I won't have scanner access for another fortnight...

If this gets organized quickly enough that that will matter... :D

I don't seem to recall anyone wanting to Moderate this--the last few have been noble, but reluctant fill-ins. On the assumption that no one actually wants it, I'm willing to step in and handle the job. I'd also gladly step aside if anyone actually wants it--it has merely occurred to me that moderating Paper Telephone is a sight easier than moderating WW, and I could probably handle it.

So far, if I'm correct, we have...

Okay... because I'm nice, I won't cut this off at thirteen--even though that was a nice number. Instead, we'll just have a super-long game. We should wrap up about....

I dunno... April?

In all seriousness, we're going to try for three days a person, if possible, and I reserve the right to skip people if we've gone past that point, even though I'm easygoing about this game and won't, in any case, be curious to see what's next, since I'll have it.

We still have room for one person--so as to have an even number to start things off. I'll send a sentence or picture to Wilwa later tonight (picture if I'm motivated, sentence if I'm not. :p)
