[Hookbill the Goomba]

Okay, this is slightly more unusual than your average Mirth game, but it's worth it.
I discovered this game while on this forum (http://www.fcmidi.net/forum/index.php).

I am not sure such an art focused game is a conventional Barrow Downs thread, but when I saw the results (http://www.fcmidi.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=78579#78579), I couldn't hep but think the Downers deserve to share in the experience.

The first player comes up with a sentence and shows it to the second player in private.
The second player draws a picture to illustrate this sentence and shows it to the third player in private.
The third player then writes a sentence to describe this picture and shows it to the fourth player in private.
And so on.

Normally the results are fantastic, but it's slightly more difficult to play on a forum than at a regular party. So here's how it works:

People sign up to play.
I (as the first player) think of a sentence and PM it to the second player.
The second player draws a picture and PMs it back to me.
I PM this picture to the third player, who writes a suitable sentence and PMs it to me. And so on and so forth till the end

This way we have the entire chain at one person's disposal, so that once it's finished it can be posted quickly and easily.

Pictures can be created in any medium - computer-created or scanned. Be creative.

Sign up now. I want at least 10 people so we get 5 pictures. It may take some time, but I think it will be worth it.

Oh, and the first sentence will be Middle Earth related. So worry not.

If you think this thread inappropriate for the Downs, I'll completely understand. But the results of this game literally had me in tears with laughter when I first read it, so I thought some folks here would like it...

Agreed. So long as this stays Tolkien-related it can continue. If it gets out of control and evolves to something that is 100% non-Tolkien-related, which I can see happening quickly if we're not careful, I will shut it down.

Generally it probably shouldn't be allowed, yes. Unless its a joke and doesn’t give too much away, I'll probably let it slide. For example, you could have a Balrog saying, "I don't have wings!" or something.

I think for the next game, we'll need to put a proper time limit on the pictures and sentences. That way we can work out when each player will need to work.

Rather comical. I must say THE Ka's drawing of what I stated was spot on.

With the Entwife, I thought, "Hmmm, in Candy Land there is a tree called 'Mama Ginger Tree' and she runs a orchard operation with painfully happy gingerbread children..." Then, it just made me picture how your little coloured plastic children/hobbit-like pieces 'visit' the orchard, and thus the sign. :p
With Alatar, well, my father has been going crazy over the new Bond movie, and that influenced the 'B.W.' parachuted Alatar. Plus, I thought it looked cool.

Glirdan's was wonderful though, definately has me laughing... :)

In Elrondsdaughter's drawing, the little fellow flying overhead reminds me of the singing sparrow in Thumbelina. I watched it with my cousin once, that sparrow had nice boots.

What all does modding entail? Obviously, pm'ing people with pictures and sentences etc, but what how are all the pictures kept/communicated? I haven't done a lot with imaging online. If it's not too hard, I could probably do it.

Well, the basics are as follows:

I keep a word document that keeps track of the sentences and URLs of the pictures.

PM, of course, the first sentence to the first player, along with your E-mail address. They E-mail you the picture. using something like Photobucket or Tinypic, you upload the picture and copy the URL into the word document*. Then you send the URL to the next player and they PM the sentence back, which you then copy into word. Then you PM the sentence to the next player and so on and so forth...


*Especially if using Tinypic.com as it doesnt keep a record for you.

I have a photobucket account which is free.

A person will email me their picture, I save it "My Documents" I title the picture as PT5pic2 (or whatever the number is). Then I go to my photobucket-download the picture from "my documents". Then I go to the PM's and pm the next person with the link to the picture from the photobucket. They pm me back the sentence they made up.

To keep everything straight- I keep a list of everyone's picture link or sentence in a saved wordpad in "my documents" entitled Papertelephone5.

The only one who stayed through the whole game was Gollum. But even he was turned to Frodo at one phase! :p That was so funny. But quite accurate too since the party-theme lasted til the end.

All the pictures and texts were just fantastic, but I must say that the one spawn came up with left me quite speechless. Wow!

I'm pretty hooked. :D If there's a flood of people who did not play in this game and who want to play I'll step aside, if not, I'd love to have another round with either writing or drawing.

Wow! I really like Hookbill's description, as well as Volo's (I like, and also wonder, how you came to the conclusion that it was Frodo turned to Gollum :D ) and Nimrodel's (good observation with the hair, I was first wondering where did you get it). The pics are also great, I like TM's quite a lot. The Gollum character, however, seems to look the best of all the participants at all the pictures (namely Lommy and Damrod have really good Gollums. And then, of course, there is Damrod's Boromir the Disco King...) :D

Funny how a small party of three grew into a full-blown rave. :D Absolutely great drawings and sentences, everyone. The small details there are wonderful, and Lommy's Gollum and Holby's Bombur actually made me laugh out loud.

I think I'm developing an addiction to this... so yes, I'd like to join the next round. Also, thanks for your comments, guys. I downloaded GIMP a while ago so I thought to try coloring a pic with it.

A crazy looking Davem dressed up in wizard robes has a cook book in one hand and with the other he is pointing Saruman's staff at the Saucepanman who suddently seems to have a brilliant idea.
Next to the Saucepanman there's a table with a piece of cheese and Frodo's head on top. Next to two very stylishly dressed up Uruk-hai with forks and Orc swords in their hands are preparing to have dinner.

Legate of Amon Lanc’s paintbrush was filled with gold. So he got a new one and drew this:

Maybe, I don't quite remember. :p
I do remember I felt like eating a petit-dej. around dejeuner, so 'fly' became similar to the act of making crepes or making the infamous pancake. So, then of course soaking in oil reminded me of fish (I seem to have an obsession with eating fish, something still a mystery to myself), and Sam was drawn as soaking in batter.

Also, Saruman has always struck me as the culinary type, so it just came to my mind, somehow.
I believe too many a late night studying has taken it's affect, don't you say?

The ending this time was bloody awesome :P
