the phantom
08-23-2004, 12:21 AM
Well, well... I go on vacation for a few days and everybody starts talking about how they imagine me. I hope that means I was missed. :D
the phantom always reminds me of a friend of mine: about 5' 11", dark hair, dark eyes, something of a theatre geek, and always wears black
the phantom dresses in goth clothes or my name isnt Andrew Edward Ma........
hes tall taller than me about 6'3 skinny black hair slick back like Malfoy's from HP and has his eyebrow pierced hes a very creepy fellow in my mind
Ye know, ye're right...Phantom definately has an eyebrow piercing...Don't know why I didn't think of it...
I suppose if I was someone else and saw someone named "the phantom" I would probably think he looked like what you guys are describing. So I guess I should've picked a different name cause your mental pics of me are as inaccurate as a Nebraska weather forecast.

I often wear black t-shirts, sweaters, and dress shirts but that's where the similarities between your version of me and the real me end.

6'3" or 5'11"? Sure, when I'm on the step up from you.

Dark hair? Well, during the winter in bad lighting it's almost dark enough to be called light brown.

Piercings and goth? Hee hee, not even. My grandma would go goth and get piercings before I would. :p

Creepy? I really do try to be, but I'm such a sweetie that they just give me a hug and go "Awww, he's trying to be creepy, isn't that cute?"
I guess is would be considered longish. Rather floppy and laid back looking (the hair)
That's funny. I've recently grown my hair out a bit longer and put it back kind of loose and floppy. Overall a decent description Fea. You didn't cheat and look at my picture on Alka's site, did you? ;)
owns a long black cloak and a very operatic white mask
I've still got the cloak but on my trip this really loud girl named Christine stole my mask! And that after I sang such beautiful music for her!

Overall a decent description Fea. You didn't cheat and look at my picture on Alka's site, did you?
No cheating for me. My image was my own. I honestly can't remember any of the pictures on Alka's site, except burrahobbit's. And even still, I don't picture him like that. He's about 60, but a very active 60, and could beat the tar out of any of us. Scrappy ol' feller. :p He's the type of guy who yells at those confounded kids who sneak into his yard. But his berations are in the form of very short and slightly terrifying phrases. ;)

strange, when ever i think of Morai, i picture him/her as a small fellow with dark features...
Ouch, in case you'd like to know, I am a "her." (You'er forgiven.) Compared to a lot of guys I know, I am kinda "small." But, alas, I have no dark features, except my personality and a few other things.

I like to imagine every one looks more or less like their avatars. Unless they have a landscape or something instead of a person, in which case I imagine them to be like Barrow Wights of different shades and sizes... Then again there is the infamous Gil-Gallad, I wonder if he looks like that avatar in real life! :D
And of course Morsul probably looks like Willy Wonka :p Unless I'm mistake, in which case I've been living a lie my whole life. (Or death as the case may be).

Morsul the Dark

A lot of people I get lazy and picture their avvies as well but others i see people and some i judge on the name

Hookbill obviously your not, but you look like one of the goombas from Mario(the video game not the movie) :p

Hookbill the Goomba

but you look like one of the goombas from Mario(the video game not the movie)

I did have a picture once of a Goomba riding on a shell that was to be my avatar, but I lost it in a previous misadventure :'(
Besides, I don’t count the Film nor the cartoon series as part of the Super Mario Cannon as they don't fit with the game. (Would go on a rant now about how Mario is not from Brooklyn and has an Italian accent ect, but I wont.)

Besides, I like my Avatar, It’s interesting. (Stares at it and drools)

Morsul the Dark: Female, 5'5 with a bow in her blonde hair. Her name is Sally, & she likes to do the sort of things all little girls like to do-play with dolls, having tea parties, that type of thing.

Quite close there. :D I'm not blonde, but I do have blue eyes (blue-green), and I'm rarely seen without several books in hand. ^ ^

And Elennar can't be Starfire from Teen Titans; that's Sirith. *points at Sirith's avvie* See? ^_~

Okay, Elennar, I picture you about 5' 8", blonde-brown hair, blue eyes; you smile a lot, and really dislike living in Utah. ^ ~

Isn't Hookbill a boss on one of the Super Mario levels in Super Nes?

Hookbill the Goomba

Hookbill the koopa is a boss on Yoshi's island (Which as you rightly said is on the SNES).
So Hookbill the koopa + a goomba = Hookbill the goomba
Simple.

Darnit I wasn't even close!...Well I guess that's because it's 2-D -- but you probably DO have a hooked-bill.

Any other members who look/act like characters from a video-game? I was just thinking about your last post Hookbill "koopa" made me think of "kupo"--the repetitive interjection that moogles use....How random can I get!? I just had to mention that...

Just forget the last three sentences.

Why does everyone think I have blue eyes? They're green! (hazel actually, but most of the time green) Oh, I know, it's my name...Elen of the Sapphire Eyes... :D I didn't know about that when I picked the name though...

For me other BD'ers look like hobbits, elves, and oliphants. No seriously?
Hookbill the Goomba: is more like a Hobbit carring a shell on his back. (No offense) Never made the connection between you and the Mario Bros.

Everyone looks different. Plus every time I picture what everyone looks like by their name:

Lhunardawen: Partly because of your name, partly cause of the avatar:
Sandy brown hair, straight, likes "peasant skirts" and sandals. I guess you could possibly have contacts or glasses.

Close. Creepily close. My hair confuses me. Some strands are black, some are brown. Some are straight, some are wavy. I do like skirts and sandals. And I do have glasses. Oh my...

Wow! A celeb. Esga = Whoppi. Would never have thought about that. Seriously.

Hookbill the Goomba: At first it was an oliphant with a shell on its back. But then I decided that a hobbit would fit you better.

If everyone looked like their avatar, then what would that make me? Really? Its not everyday you see a hobbit with a shell on its back.

Morai
08-26-2004, 09:10 AM
Morai: almost sounds like Mordor. So perhaps... well hopefully not like Mordor at all.
I actually took the name from a book with descriptions of different fairies and pictures. Morai was green/blue, lived in a swamp/lake thingy and drowned people who swam there. So in that case, you're not so far off. *Imagines what Mordor looks like* Well, I do wear a lot of black and silver, and I do have extremely pale skin.

Sleepy Ranger: for you, there are two choices. The first, you look exactly like PJ. The second: you are a laid-back, hippie sort of person who likes outdoor activities, eg. camping, surfing, and family games of cricket. You often wear long shorts and a t-shirt. Your hair is shoulder-length, kinda scruffy, and dirty blonde bordering on light brown. You have a tan from your outdoor pursuits. You often carry a rucksack with you when you go out, containing useless pieces of every day bag-junk.

Fea: Okay, because of your name, and the avvie you used to have. I'll say red hair and tall (compared to me at least) wears brown leather clothing. Innacurate enough?
A pox on myself for using ME ME ME as an avatar... Now my secret identity is less of a secret. Actually, ID still secret, general appearance less so.

For the inaccuracy of the description... Half *does some quick counting*... actually, OVER half of my family on my da's side are redheads. It managed to skip me, but my hair is still pretty reddish when the light is just right (ie: sunset, dawn, high noon). So you are only partially inaccurate on that. Tall? Only in the eyes of a 6-year-old. Unless its different in other parts of the world, 5'3" isn't particularly tall, and I know 12-year-olds bigger than me. :o So kudos on your inaccuracy there. As for brown leather... Not my style. I much prefer the dark and generally moody appearance of black leather. But I do occasionally "borrow" my brother's brown leather jacket when the mood strikes. It's not often.

Mithalwen: I must admit, I rarely use your entire name, and tend to shorten it in my mind to Mith or Mitha. With this name-length switch came a slight height imagining switch. I've got you pegged as about 5'6" (as opposed to my initial 5'9"). I've never pictured you as male, you've always been a bit of a librarian-type. Not, mind you, the variety that says "SHHHHH!!!!!! This is a LIBRARY!", but the variety that, when you walk into said library, knows exactly where your favorite books are, and if you ask, tends to say things like "Did you see what just came in? More books by your favorite author!". Your hair is light brown (I dare say "tawny") and your eyes have no set color. Perhaps greyish blue.

Fea

Mithalwen

LOL ... thanks Fea.. it is a comfort.... In my mind Mithalwen is said with a welsh accent which softens it.. height ...you were closer with guess number one (I did admit my true height somewhere on the forum ..... 5"10 or a squeak under .... but I always say 5"10.... my eyes .... well yes! They are very light coloured (grey /green / blue) and change with the light and with the colours I wear (not generally to match ),

Hair .... also hard to pin down ....... born strawberry blonde darkening to strawberry mouse or "almost titian" as someone kindly called it once .... yes I will go with almost titian ..... then genetics kicked in and I started to go grey at about 17 - sadly the red seems to have gone first ..... and so the colour is whatever is on the label these days !..... I think if I stopped colouring it I would look like a slightly faded rusty badger ... I tend to go for shades near to what was once natural since they suit my pale colouring but the red never seems to last .... my eybrows and lashes are naturally dark (so even when I didn't dye people thought I did) so I have a bit of a Haldir look going on there .....Somewhere between these two is more or less it..... not for dress sense though... closer to the Rossetti unless I have to be "suited and booted" - my favourite clothes come from the the bargain rail at the Ghost factory outlet store ......... :)

This is my first go at this, but it looks like fun so here goes - and I've not cheated!

Mithalwen - I never thought you were a bloke! You don't go in for make-up too much, but sometimes you paint your toe-nails because you rather like those cute sandals with all the embrodiery on. And you love browsing in Accesorize for bracelets.

Morsul - you're about 5' 9". You wear black jeans, and like a 'cool' t-shirt, maybe something with your favourite band on. You wear contacts, and your hair is neither long nor short; you can't decide how you want to wear it.

Morai - slightly taller than average height for a girl. You like big stompy boots and you would love to dye your hair a crazy colour. You like to wear lots of silver rings.

mark 12_30 - you like to keep your hair nice and tidy (I reckon it's blonde) but you like to wear your favourite jeans most of the time and hate wearing fussy things.

Bet you're all going "eh?" now...

Morsul the Dark: So you're 5'11-6'0, & wear blue jeans & those flame or floral designed shirts? You sound more like a fight starter then one to shy away from them...:p
So, here's my new impression of you:

Morsul: 6'0, always wears a white shirt & over it he wears a flame-design shirt (unbuttoned of course). He's usually sitting at his desk, wreathed in the smoke coming from one of his enormous cigars. His teeth are a bit discolored from the cigars, he always hold them clinched tightly between his teeth in a sort of snarl while he counts & examines the cash from his latest 'business' deal. He has at least 2 bodyguards guarding the 'desk room', & usually has at least 4 plainclothes 'buddies' with him on his casino nights. Not an especially pleasant person to run into !

p.s. don't send your hitmen after me for reminding you, but you're up in FotR Movie Quotes, Morsul :D

no cigars for me thanks

Yes iI do infact wear plant themed shirts I cook go down the list of shirts I have put that would take a long time, after all there are only two things a man can't have enough of:

nice shirts
and excuses for their...uniqueness

I will however humor you, my favorite shirts are A blue shirts with white designs that make it look like that dutch blue potery and a dark blue shirt covered in palm trees and such...

Oh and me a fight starter? I see someone that wants to fight me theres only one thing to do...RUN as fast as I possibly can! :D

Oh and Fea(since its fun to bug you :p ) just make sure im a MALE chocalate chip ;)

I'll allow that it is mutual, Morsul, and yet I am in a rather... subtle... mood at the moment, and must therefore limit my tormenting to the simple stating of the fact that, as far as I know, chocolate chips are genderless. :p

Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels are crunchy when cold, gooey when hot, are undeniably popular, and generally improve whatever they are mixed in with.

However, if anyone is asking that Morsul the Dark be melted I hereby delegate that task to Durin's Bane and absolve myself of any further involvement in the matter. I have no doubt that the Balrog, like any sane person, enjoys chocolate.

Unless it's chicken.... Not that I would know or anything. ;)

Melt Morsul??!?!?! Perish the thought. Better to stick him in a freezer and keep him in his generally Hershey Kiss shape.

I have no doubt that the Balrog, like any sane person, enjoys chocolate.
It's true, you know. That whole episode in Moria? Simply happened because he was out of chocolate and had to vent his wrath some other way. Just so long as he doesn't try to steal Morsul! :p

Balrogs' favourite chocolate must be Minstrels as "they melt in the mouth, not in the hand" so the old slogan goes. Although, hold them in your hand for long enough and they will eventually melt - I spent many years at school trying to conceal and consume sweets under my desk.

OK, time for some more random and vaguely bizarre guesses - this will cheer me up, as I seem to have lost my Humphrey Carpenter Tolkien biography in the palaeozoic layer of the house.

Morsul - you like to tease your hair into weird shapes. And you wear a thumb ring. You've nearly finished school, and you carry all your books in one of those record bags, which makes you slump to one side on school days.

Sleepy Ranger - favours boots as footwear, sometimes DMs. But you don't go in for wacky bootlaces. Sometimes you wear trainers but you can't be bothered with fastening your shoes so you leave the laces slack and just force them onto your feet. And you are 6" tall.

Feanor - you used to like to wear earrings, and had your ears pierced when you were fourteen. Nowadays you don't bother so much, because the novelty has worn off.

mark 12_30 - you like to see if the textiles of garments feel nice before you buy them. You avoid red things because you reckon pet hair sticks to them. You are also pretty tall, about 5' 9".

mark12_30
08-29-2004, 11:13 AM
Lalwende: Wow. Good height, good textiles.

Is there something wrong with pet hair?

Lalwendë
08-29-2004, 11:38 AM
Actually, mark 12_30, I cheated because on your book collection photo I spied a dog bowl! And I avoid red things because they keep showing up the cat hair... And you'd need to be tall to reach those books, wheareas I would only be able to gaze upon them forlornly. ;)

Very inacurate. I lead a charmed life and I can never get injured. The worst thats happened is a hairline crack on my finger. Healed in 2 weeks.

Mithalwen
08-29-2004, 12:04 PM
This is my first go at this, but it looks like fun so here goes - and I've not cheated!

Mithalwen - I never thought you were a bloke! You don't go in for make-up too much, but sometimes you paint your toe-nails because you rather like those cute sandals with all the embrodiery on. And you love browsing in Accesorize for bracelets.

...

True I don't go in for make up ... I buy it but don't often wear it!! At the moment the nearest I get is tinted moistuiser and a dab of eight hour cream on my lips ... and that was for going out to lunch! Spooky about the toesnails ..... I haven't bothered recently because the weather has been too grim to show my feet but I often do paint them even in winter... sometimes just to cheer myself up ... and if I am working in a stuffy office I like the idea that inside the suit is a woman with sparkly blue toes lol... believe me it is a great antidepressant..... I love pretty shoes but have really long feet so have to take what I find :( but while I love accessorize I can't bear wearing stuff on my wrists especially the left one... so no bangles or bracelets and often no rings either ( don't like typing in them- and I spend so much time at a keyboard....) ...so I have some lovely jewellery and almost never wear it! Just a really cheap watch!!!

Lalwendë
08-29-2004, 12:21 PM
Mithalwen - Hurrah! I got something right! Another guess - you wear really smart clothes for work, and you never have a hanging thread or a button missing. You have one of those handbags that seems to contain everything you own, and you're never without an umbrella. But at weekend you're completely the opposite! BTW, I have the opposite problem, really small feet...I've been known to stuff the toes of shoes that are four sizes too big for me.

Sleepy Ranger - As you never seem to get injured, I reckon that you must do a lot of active things, or else surely you'd not actually notice this strange fact. I'm guessing you like mountain biking and a bit of climbing. You also like a beer!

Sleepy Ranger

Mountain biking? lost my bike
Climbing? once

Feanor - you used to like to wear earrings, and had your ears pierced when you were fourteen. Nowadays you don't bother so much, because the novelty has worn off.
True... I did used to wear earrings a lot more, but for different reasons than novelty... or so I'd like to think. I had my ears pierced some 12 years ago, and my ears got absurdly infected, so I let them close up. I had them repierced some 5 years ago under the foolish impression that they wouldn't get so bleedin' screwed up again... foolish hopes. So I let them 'close' and the only ear that did close is the one that never got infected! So now, I occasionally go for the 'pirate look', as I so dubbed it, and once in a great while, I'll wear a single earring (usually long, dangly, and somewhat hippie looking). But, like you said, the novelty just isn't there, so I wear an earring maybe once every few months...

Noooo not having an avatar is cool and mysterious.... well that's my excuse!
I guess you're right, but as soon I find a picture that'll make a good avvie, watch out! (Don't worry, I won't spoil all the fun by posting an actuall picture of myself.)
Anyway, I think that the word Morai looks kind of like Moria. So I imagine he/she (I'm never sure and don't like to assume) looks dark and mysterious like Kazad-dum is at the end of the third age!
I knew someone would say that eventually (the whole Moria thing) someone actually called me that in a thread once by mistake. I'm a she, it's okay though, I kinda have a gender-neutral name anyway. Dark and mysterious, hmmm...depends where I am and what I'm feeling.
Morai - slightly taller than average height for a girl. You like big stompy boots and you would love to dye your hair a crazy colour. You like to wear lots of silver rings.
I would love to dye my hair a crazy colour, except only with the wash-out stuff. Mostly because get tired of things really quick. But that's as close as you got. But I kinda like that image, keep it if you like.
Why so terrifying? Was I being imagined as some tall and imposing figure? I assure you, I'm imposing (or so I'd like to think... simple confidence, and when that fails, bravado, do a lot for presumed appearance), if not particularly tall. As for orange flames... why orange flames?
It's not terrifying because of my imagination, I assure you. But I still won't say the reason, you'll have to guess. Orange flames because the word "Feanor" makes me think of fire. (I'm strange, I know)
Morsul the Dark-- the Chocolate Chip.
Morsul : Yep, that's a permanent image in my head too. I can't believe I didn't notice that before! Anyway, you might as well get a avvie of that. It's just to quirky to ignore. ;)

Feanor of the Peredhil

I never thought I'd ever come across as a black person least of all Whoopi, (not that theres anything wrong with people of colour) I just can't imagine anyone who doesn't know what I look like thinking I look that way.

So to fix the problem I'm pale and tall, there, that should be enough to get you people back on track, even though you've guessed me correctly already, go ahead give it another try without looking back. ;)

So your view of me changes on a day to day basis, thats fine with me! I suppose it makes it far more interesting that way. And speaking of presence I suppose Ellenar would have a light presence (not as in weight, not saying your fat Ellenar) but as in radiance, I've never caught her doing something mean, unless it was just a joke to begin with so I suppose I imagine other BDers not in a physical way but in non- corporial way, very much like a wight I suppose.

I would have to agree with you there, Eswen. I don't think I've imagined you yet (at least in a post.) So here it goes:
Mostly because of your last few avatars (not the one you have presently) I see you with short, messy hair. It's so unkempt, that it's beginning to form tiny dreadlocks. As for clothing, I see you wearing a long black cloak, that's glittery blue when the light shines on it in a certain way. Where your height is concerned, I think of you as the same height as me.

For some reason you always have a slightly wicked, amused look on your face. It's kinda hard to explain exactly how I picture you (or anyone), I don't know why.

Elannar Starfire: I think you have dirty blond hair, medium length. You must be very intelligent and classy. You are fashionable with a slightly European feel. Hope you enjoy my imagination!

Feanor of the Peredhil: You must wear comfortable cloths with a bit of an artsy touch that I wish I could capture. Yes, and I believe you have dark hair. That's all for now.

If we're going by Presences that make little sense to anyone but ourselves... Eomer's got a... tartan... presence. Hahahaha.... Please don't ask me to explain it. But Eomer's image in my mind, regardless of me having a decent idea of what he actually looks like (see back pages), is that of Karl Urban in a red and black kilt.

Elennar is more like a wisp of cloud. A friendly wisp of cloud mind you, but a wisp none the less.

Morai has the essence of a long past time in my head. Crimson corsets and black gowns. Full length gloves, operas, and a tumble of dark curls.

Thankyou for taking an interest in me, I'm very much an ignored entity around here.
Why does everyone imagine me as raven-haired? Of course I'm very flattered, but I'm not so fortunate as to actually possess raven hair. I'm the sort of person who should have raven hair, but Fate got in the way, and my hair is actually a tangle of heated copper and dark desires.

Crimson corsets and black gowns. Full length gloves, operas, and a tumble of dark curls.

I'd like to steal this towards myself. Perhaps not the full length gloves and operas, but I'm definitely a corset-and-gown person. Sleepy looks like Peter Jackson just after he's rolled out of bed.

Then again, PJ always looks like he just rolled out of bed.

Also, Sleepy is girt with a plastic version of Anduril and a wears a poorly sewn Strider costume.

:p

I can assure you, its not plastic ;)
And I don't have curly hair to get people off of that curly hair kick. And I always look I rolled out of bed so score for you.

Hee hee... your sig is cool. SPM is awesome.

ok, here's my stab at describing you, Sleepy...

you're around 6 feet tall, and since I hardly believe that you're 100 years old, you're about 17. You've got short, spiky black hair. (as my picture is fuzzy, I can't tell if it's dyed or natural.) Your eyes are either black or very dark blue (as I said, my picture's fuzzy). Your clothes are rather wrinkled, but you don't care. Your closet functions only as a place to shove unwanted stuff. no clothes whatsoever. those are all on your floor. Clean ones folded and stacked, and half worn ones scattered about the room.

how's that?

Heights close. I'll keep quiet about the age part. My hair is anything but short. Spiky? I change my hairstyle every 5 minutes. Its natural black, kinda brownish and looks green in photos. My eye color was wrong. How right you are, I don't care about my clothes, only shoes. I have a closet? You mean that thing filled with my moms stuff and a few of my clothes? Right you are about unwanted stuff.

Estel, to me you look like your avatar. No matter how many times you change it.
but seriously, this is how I picture you---

Your hair is dirty-blondish, about 2 inches long.
You have grey/blue eyes. They change with your mood. When you're angry, they're grey. Happy, they're blue.
You have had braces in the past, but no longer (yay!)

Hmm, the hiar is right, the eyes are part right, & I did used to have braces, though I don't anymore (yay!). Not at all a bad picture of me, I seem to be losing some of my invincibility!

Interesting that I just discovered this thread, lol.

Fordhim and Davem-I must say you two professor's I sort of imagine as that Tolkien picture with a pipe in his mouth, hmmm. :smokin: .

Eomer- sort of like a Gilbert Godfrey. With that scratchy voice.

Child of the 7th Age- One of those professor's at Harvard, who majored in law.
I'm a professor at Harrrrvard, and I studied in the degree of lhhaw. Whilst driving down the street in my vollllvo...

Boromir, you're "true" appearance alludes me. However, I place your age at about 28, and your looks to be that of a slightly unkempt teacher, rushing between classes. Your dark brown hair tends to look like you forgot about the haircut you were supposed to get some two weeks ago, and rather likes to stick up in odd places. This, however, doesn't make you look like a slob, but rather like a bookworm who runs his fingers through his hair at frequent intervals. Your eyes are what capture me: hidden behind wire-framed glasses, your gray eyes are usually alight with academic enthusiasm. I'd say you are relatively thin... not "skinny", but not big. I place your height at about 5'9". Your desk is organized in that you always know where everything is, but is complete chaos to anyone else. Piled with well-worn copies of ancient writings, as well as random notes to yourself, it is not always possible to see the bottom. There is always a good chance of finding ink spatters or pencil smudges on your hands.

I don't even want to guess how inaccurate that is, but that's the fun of the thread, is it not?

Feanor, I am impressed how close you are lol.

I'm 37, but people say I look younger, don't ask me why. I do have dark brown hair, and yes there are times when I will take a shower, go to bed, and it will be a mess in the morning, and I won't even bother fixing it. I have contacts, but used to have glasses, they were that thin type. You were close in height 6'1, and I am rather thin. I must say I'm not a school teacher, I sort of thought about teaching, but I do have this neatly organized desk with little posted notes. I must say I am impressed. ;)

I've not had a go at this in 'donkeys' years', and last time I was quite bad at it, mainly as my mind works in surreal, overly imaginative ways, so here goes:

I just can't place how old Boromir88 is, but I think 'he' is male, and likes a good old chinwag, although he can also be a quiet sort of person and enjoys nostalgia - maybe a bit of collecting of memorabilia, watching old TV shows from his youth, and that kind of thing. 'He' is often really busy, and he drives a big car - but whether it's old or new I can't tell, that would depend on age I suppose. And uses a laptop rather than a PC!

Boromir88
11-07-2004, 12:27 PM
Jeez a man, another fairly accurate description by Lalwende. I do like those old TV shows from youth (Star Trek, with Shatner and Nemoy, The Brady Bunch, Bonanza). Yes, I am a rather busy guy, working for a fireworks company and all, especially during the season I'm always travelling around from store to store. I DO HAVE A LABTOP!

Lalwendë

Hurrah! I got something right! :) Those fireworks, it's made me think, you could be a modern-day Gandalf! That must be every boy's dream, to work in the fireworks business!

OK, buoyed up by my wildcard success, time for another guess: you like to listen to music in your car as you travel about, but you tend to go for your favourite CDs - I would guess REM, U2 are amongst them? - rather than the radio, apart from the news, and you sometimes listen to a talking book/drama CD.

Several empty bottles of vodka?! Which leaves us with three options: that the Barrow Wight doesn't clean his flat and they can therefore be several months old; that he is possessed of a surprisingly strong, probably Russian constitution; or that he is actually lying in a coma, cow-boy boots and all, in a corner.

Definitely option three. ;)

You should have seen me Halloween Weekend. Friday: powdered white face, with heavily lined (black) eyes, and blood red lipstick. Clean... cut? Occasionally. Like if I need to make a split second first impression on someone close-minded. Or if I feel like it. Artsy? More than you could possibly guess. Black... quite often, but not for the "usual" reasons. White... often as well, only I need to remember to stop... at least on Fridays. Coffee shop... Indeed. As it’s been a while since I last visited this thread, and as I have, in that time, formed several new acquaintances in the Downs…

Boromir88 is tall and very shaggy: he has a florid red beard that matches the wild, out of control mop of curls upon his head, all of which perfectly frames frighteningly intense hazel eyes. He rarely smiles in a pleasant manner, but he is not frightening or intimidating. Rather, he is more of a mystery to those he meets, and whose hands he clasps in his own giant paws. He is built rather like an oak tree in autumn: spare, but weighed with the promise of vigour. His clothes are neat, but simple. He looks as though he would be most at home out in his backyard hoeing the garden or chopping a cord or two of wood before breakfast.

Mithalwen is of medium height, with slightly curling dark brown hair to her shoulders and an incredibly mischievous glint in her earthy brown eyes. Her hands and fingers are slender and clever, and her complexion is fair, although touched with red from her time spent outdoors, just wandering and listening to birdsong. She wears cotton and wool, usually of muted tones but not dark. She never wears hats, preferring instead to feel the light of the sun and the touch of the wind on her face. She smiles constantly, but never speaks much, particularly in groups. She is fleet of foot.

Lalwende looks about twelve years old, but she is actually much older. She has long blonde hair that can appear a bit red in the sun, and her eyes glitter grey or blue with her mood. She is an almost inexhaustible talker, but well worth the listening to. She wears glasses and is entirely unconscious to her beauty, which makes men fall in love with her upon first sight. She has a mole upon one shoulder that shows only when she is wearing that ragged old shirt that she prefers to wear when out running. She is not slender, but the extra pounds suit her extremely well, lending her a glow of health and vitality that skinnier people envy.

Aiwendil is extremely tall and extremely slender. He looks like a conductor and bears himself like a tyrant, although a benevolent one. His beard, hair and demeanour are all black, but he does not intimidate or threaten. Instead, he commands almost instant respect with the intensity of his gaze. His lips are somewhat too thin for his face and his grey eyes seem oddly devoid of colour. He always wears a suit that appears to be quite expensive, but upon closer inspection appears to be a bit threadbare about the edges. Despite the elegance of his appearance, he is somewhat awkward in his movements, as though his body has a mind of its own – or, more properly, as though his mind is elsewhere…or elsewhen. He is a chain smoker of expensive, imported Turkish cigarettes.

Child of the Seventh Age looks exactly like my mother. In fact, I think she might be my mother. (This is not as bad as it sounds, as I am very fond of my mother and she holds three graduate degrees in two different disciplines… Yes, there are times when I feel my mother is perhaps too smart to be true…much as I feel about Child!)

Mark 12_30 looks just like a hobbit, albeit one who wears glasses. She is not very tall, not particularly slender, and has short curly hair. She smiles often and laughs even oftener. Her cheeks are red from lots of time spent outdoors, and she has many freckles, for her complexion is fair but she refuses to wear a hat. She likes to wear large sensible boots at every opportunity.

Rimbaud looks precisely like Chatterton in the famous painting of the dead youth – except, y’know, not dead.

davem

The time has come to tackle one of my favourite Downers. Surprisingly, davem is remarkably clear to me, despite the subtle mysteries of his mind:

He is the same height as myself, but of slightly lighter build. His hair is brown and somewhat wavy; it might also be touched with a few hints of grey, but these hairs lend him dignity. He is a man who would look good in glasses, but he does not wear any. His arms and fingers are long and graceful. His eyebrows are faintly bushy over intensely focused eyes, which can sometimes become oddly distant as he wanders through the labyrinths of his dreams, even in the waking world. He has a very closely cropped beard.

davem wears brown clothes; not all brown, but many earth tones, with the occasional touch of dark colour thrown in. He dresses surprisingly well, if conservatively. He wears jackets every day.

His face is angular but not jagged, giving him the look of an aesthete, but this initial impression is overborne when he laughs at jokes that others do not find funny for his wit is not common, sharp as it might be. He loves trees and wooded lanes, and will speak to himself audibly when he knows that he is alone. He likes to ride the bus and look at the other people, imagining what they are like when at home.

He smokes a pipe when he reads, and drinks ale rather than lager. He is friendly to strangers, and kind to animals.

Meh! :D I'd like to say it's all true, but it isn't! One thing you did get right is that I never stop talking - I spent many hours in 'punishment corner' at primary school for my inability to shut up - alas it was no punishment for there were many good books there. And I am wearing glasses now, but I don't wear them if I can help it, and yes, I am remarkably unwrinkled for my age. But I think you may have to guess again. :)

Now...
Fordim - is not tall, although he 'thinks tall', and he holds himself proudly so that you would think he was a giant. He wears those glasses which have almost invisible metal frames (the gold coloured ones), and he has short hair which is 'messy on top'. He usually wears mis-matched jackets and trousers in the day, without a tie, and any old thing when he gets home; he somehow seems to get ink stains on his cuffs all the time so he rolls his sleeves up a lot. Secretly, he yearns for the days when a gentleman could go about in a frock coat, carrying a cane and a pair of kid gloves.

Mithalwen - has regular haircuts and likes to look neat and tidy in the daytime, but she does like the odd biscuit so she's forever checking her clothes for traces of crumbs. She sometimes wears glasses, especially when doing work on the computer, and she certainly wasn't happy about it when the optician recommended her for them. She really does have two sides to her as at home she likes to wear floaty, beautiful clothes, but nothing luridly patterned. Her laugh is ringing, especially after a few glasses of wine.

Fordim's description of Rimbaud was unsurpassable, but I can try my own, as I have a definite impression. He is tall, and has dark hair. He has been known to experiment with different beard and sideburn combinations, and can't quite shake off his old style of dress from his student days. He favours long coats in dark colours, but these days, that is about the only everyday left over from his glory years and now he has to wear a shirt and tie, so he figures they may as well be lively ones.

Child likes to wear grey and silver clothes and she always has a book in her pocket or handbag (this handbag is actually a brown leather rucksack). She likes flowing trousers and tunics, and also long sets of beads, but these are always in a tasteful style, and only occasionally does she wear something loud, mainly for fun. She does not favour lots of make up and she has bright blue eyes, and dark brown hair.

I must say Fordhim, the only think you practically got right was tall and hazel eyes. I am not that much shaggy, just my hair, i did use to have a goatee but not anymore, and know not red curly hair, more of a light brown, straight hair, lol. But, I applaud you for the attempt, here's mine. I will say, my humor is that of an odd one, for I'm often critisized for having out of day cheesy jokes, lol. For example, What do you call a mushroom thath as a date everyday? A very
FUN-GI (Guy)

Fordhim- Fairly tall, maybe 5'11. I'd say brown eyes. More of a British sort of dry comedy humor, where you make jokes about yourself, and your society, :p .
I imagine you as a professor of some university, teaching about 20th Century English authors (hopefully I got the century right), or maybe a class on Brittish romantics. Hmm, I guess I sort of think of you as a brittish kind of guy :) .

Funny, I happen to picture Davem the same way, makes me wonder if you are two long lost seperated, identical twins?

Though I have seen a picture of Bethberry, she is not how I pictured her in the least...which is odd since I'm not really quite sure how I pictured her in the first place.

On the one hand I see a slim woman perched behind a desk that is drowning in the middle of the library, where tomes are piled on end. She wears spectacles that insist on sliding off the end of her nose, and she scribbles furiously across the paper, filling the paper with witty words. Brown hair shot with blonde tumbling down her shoulders...

On the other hand I picture her as something like a human faerie...dancing through the woods, robed in green...with glimmering golden hair.

Extremely short blonde hair- nope. Long dark brown
Or did you mean I am extremely short? Yes, I am short.
Brown eyes- Yes, almost black.
Freckles- Not as many as I used to have.
Lots of jewelry- If you count my ring and One Ring (and one of those clips you put on your belt loop) as being a lot. ;)
Bandana somewhere- In the summer, yes, now no.
Treats the world like a bouncy castle- Otay! Sounds good! :D

Funny you should say that about Feanor, Morai. I imagine him the same way.
It's amazing (and occasionally scary) what my muses can think up. :D
I can think of one important difference between your image of me, and Morai's.
Hehehe....nothing like mixups in gender to brighten up my foggy day. :)

Anyway here's another:
The Ka: I see you as a person that walks around in a whiteish/gray cloak. You have platinium blonde hair and icy blue eyes. The hair is usually spiked and on occasion you put red tips on them. Your silent-brooding personality sometimes frightens people, but once they get to know you they like you a lot.

I wonder if I am too mysterious for people to guess about me.

THE Ka I can't help imagining as Eowyn, ever since Oddwen's little crazy scene starring Eowyn as Ka and Arwen as me. Except, Ka doesn't have such tidy hair.

Wish i could come over and paint a big old Jareth in for you... to make you feel better.
Heh. Actually, I've got a big empty wall I need to do something with...probably just LotR posters and such, since I have very little artistic talent for anything looking remotely realistic...I'm just good at designing jewelry! (and making it...but what I make is never as good as my designs...why does copper have to be so hard to work with?)

Oh, and I have my closet back. But still no door...

I did that in the hall today...loudly...with my Labyrinth-fan friend who's been conspiring with me to get people to watch it... (three guesses which part I did ;) )so far two successes, and lots more people who want to see it...we'll just have to throw another movie party! :D

Believe it or not I have no image of any other downers. I've tried racking my brains but nothing. I shall correct Fordim slightly, though.

He is the same height as myself, but of slightly lighter build.
(He's 5'10)

His hair is brown and somewhat wavy; it might also be touched with a few hints of grey, but these hairs lend him dignity. He is a man who would look good in glasses, but he does not wear any.
(Yes he does)

His arms and fingers are long and graceful. His eyebrows are faintly bushy over intensely focused eyes, which can sometimes become oddly distant as he wanders through the labyrinths of his dreams, even in the waking world. He has a very closely cropped beard.
(No beard)

davem wears brown clothes; not all brown, but many earth tones, with the occasional touch of dark colour thrown in. He dresses surprisingly well, if conservatively. He wears jackets every day.
(Actually he mostly wears jeans, & only wears a shirt & tie for work)

His face is angular but not jagged, giving him the look of an aesthete, but this initial impression is overborne when he laughs at jokes that others do not find funny for his wit is not common, sharp as it might be.
(No, his face is round, but his jaw is slightly angular)

He loves trees and wooded lanes, and will speak to himself audibly when he knows that he is alone. He likes to ride the bus and look at the other people, imagining what they are like when at home.

He smokes a pipe when he reads, and drinks ale rather than lager. He is friendly to strangers, and kind to animals.

(He tends to avoid strangers, being overly shy. He (i)never(/i) smokes his pipe while reading, as coffee-caramel tobacco creates such thick clouds of smoke that that would be impossible)

Mark 12_30 - Fordim's description of you was actually closer to me, apart from the hair, as mine is the whole opposite of short, and I come from a real life Hobbit family. Want to do a swap? ;)

Someone I have a really clear picture of is Saucepan Man. I think he is somewhere twixt 35 and 43, tall and wiry, and likes outdoor pursuits, e.g. hiking, climbing and so on when he gets the time. He likes dogs. He has hair that's a bit messy, and he contrives to wear it as spikey as possible, just as much as he can get away with. He has a long nose, blue eyes and goes 'tsch' when he laughs.

Another clear picture in my mind is Imladris - she's around 17, and is quite shy, but has a small group of really good friends. She can be serious, and loves reading, and she sometimes wears those ribbons and badges for good causes. She wears contacts. She has short red hair and is of average height.

Finally, davem if you read this, where did you get coffee-caramel tobacco from, as it sounds great. Once made whisky tobacco, but it was rather smelly, and a waste of good Glenfiddich, ahem. Not that I'm condoning smoking, kids... ;)

Most tobacconists sell it - James Barber's is a good source on line. They also sell some nice pipes, including 'Churchwardens' (long stemmed pipes).

An online tobacconists? What a good idea! Surprisingly, for a Northern city, there are no tobacconists left around here.

What I have learned from all of this is that some of us 'Downers might be good at picking up the teeniest little details from Tolkien, but we are not, perhaps, quite so good at picking up things about each other. Still, it makes me laugh on a regular basis... :)

Shall I try the opposite? You have spent much time within reputable hostelries building up a finely crafted 'Nature's Tea Tray' and have a close relationship with the sofa? ;)

Kudos to Mr. Fordim Hedgethistle for a very fine job of resurrecting the fun of this thread!

Like davem, I tend not to create mental images of the people here. Still and all, though, sometimes a Downer is so unique in his or her posting style and form of argument and particular point of view, that a picture comes willnilly into my mind, particularly when he or she rather adamently refuses to concede any of my points. ;) except in comments when he or see reps me. :D

davem is one such Downer to me. While he says he is not bearded, I do see him as somewhat Druidic, striding purposefully with long legs in a way that makes him appear talker than he is. His hair flows, unless it is tied back and for some reason a receding hairline seems to go with that pipe of which he speaks. If he wears jeans, I bet he also wears Army surplus boots--something nononsense but not punk. Does he carry around his beloved copies of Tolkien in a leather satchel? Only, I think, to 'Moots. I am willing to bet he could wear any hat he wanted to and wear it with aplomb. Does he wear any jewellry? This is the question. Perhaps if it bears some affinity to something Anglo Saxon or Scandinavian. No Rings though!

And now on to Imladris, about whom I haven't the faintest idea concerning hair colour and eye colour. But I think she moves with speed and grace, covering the ground rapidly like a cat or a cloud. She has sharp eyes and speaks very directly, no mumbling for her or hesitation. I wouldn't think her lips are full, but they could be and she simply purses them to make them appear thinner. I bet that photographs of her are deceptive; she is more striking in person than in print. And no, I don't think she has a zig zag scar on her forehead.

What Imadris does have is a clever imagination. How could she have guessed that there are several aspects to Bethberry ? If only she could see my writing room and my garden! Perhaps somehow she has . . .

Lalwendë, I'd stick with the Glenfiddich, neat.

In terms of swapping descriptions-- I'm rather fond of the one I got! Maybe because the more I dress like a hobbit (in the winter, anyway) the more I get mistaken for an elf. Them's the breaks. Child would say it must be the Fallohide blood; maybe I'm a Lorien throwback. :D Pass the mushrooms, please.

Alas and to my great sadness, I do not have red hair. *sobs*

Well, being a child with red hair is not always a blessing. Going by the alternate name of 'duracell' until I was about 8 was not nice, but thankfully from then on it darkened to a more mahogany tone. And remember, there's not need to be sad for it's easy to be a fake redhead. ;)

Someone I had imagined to have very dark red hair was davem, but it appears I was wrong. I think Bethberry may be another redhead, as Mithalwen may be, too. I think it's the sparky temperament. I know it all too well myself. :)

I don't really draw up too many mental images of people's appearances, but some 'Downers do come through strongly, mainly where they remind me of other people. What I do often get strong images of though, is people's personalities, whether they are outgoing or shy, if they are sitting at a messy desk, what kind of thing they may be wearing. It's such fun to guess though... :)

Mithalwen
11-10-2004, 12:40 PM
Now...
.
Her laugh is ringing, especially after a few glasses of wine.

.

this .. isn't bad ..... but I have never been to a proper hairdresser in my life and so my idea of regular haircuts is lopping the straglier ends off with my desk scissors. So when I "scrub up" I tend to put my hair up. How I dress during the day depends on the type of office I am working in - but I am one of those people who find smart casual a strain so I find a formal office has its advantages.. but is true the clothing of choice is diametrically opposed to the "suited and booted" look ..I scour the sale bargain rails of the GHOST outlet store to find lovely gauzy garments that I can afford.... It is also true that I find it hard to maintain the pristine look... My shirts are coffee magnets and untuck themselves .. my natural state is possibly to look like I have been "dragged through a hedge backwards" despite my best efforts. And yes.... I never get drunk anymore... but a few glasses of wine, especially with a good meal and good friends is one of the great pleasures of life for me. another good strike (unless you have trawled back very thoroughly) is the hair ..... not true red but naturally "almost titian" (dark strawberry blonde - so bad tempered and stupid ;) ) now alas synthetically reproduced, having acquired my first grey hairs at 17 :(

My eysight is perpetually on the point of needing glasses - one eye is much stronger than the other becasue I never wore the ones Iwas prescribed as a child :D - but I got away with artificial tears last time (I do find VDU a strain) ...

I am fact a "she", it would help if I could find an avatar, but lately I haven't found any of the right size. Thank goodness I haven't had one of Elijah Wood in a while, for that would only lead you in the wrong direction. I wouldn't consider my hair long, but it would be if I was a guy. Oh indeed. And if you were to use, habitually, an old quill pen and ink well, I would see you with a perpetually inked finger, possibly with nails bitten short, but not to the quick. For some reason I imagine you write in a small, round hand, no flourishes. But as to leather satchel or backback/rucksack, I cannot decide. You dress smartly rather than romantically but your comment about Damien Hirsch's art might have led me astray there.

And as to Mithalwen, well. Black wardrobe, but a beatnik or ballet black style rather than goth. Tallish and slender, with a Jane Austen propensity for a sharp social eye. I have a black bouclé three-quarter length sweater in mind that I can see you wearing, maybe with scarves and an angora hat, not a beret but a round hat with a tall crown. There's something rather Cheshire catish about you too.

Son of Numenor is well-muscled yet trim. He moves with an air of assurance. He's privileged and he knows it and he both is proud of that fact and very much aware of the burden it entails. He wouldn't be caught dead in Tommy Hilfinger, much less Hugo Boss, although he could carry that off if he wanted to. There are a fair number of sandal, sneakers and walking shoes in his closet and he probably owns more than one pair of swimming trunks.

I have had so much fun writing this. I almost feel as if I am creating characters for RPGs here. :D

Saucepan Man: A man of genuis, though often hidden by his somewhat odd appearance. He always wears a cotton longsleeve shirt that is tattered & torn, rarely wears shoes, but sometimes knee-high socks, wears long 'cargo' shorts & allows his hair to grow almost as much as my friend's hair (now you can see the attachment :p). Naturally, he always wears a saucepan on his head; &, like everyone else, keeps tabs on what's 'in'. He started with the handle facing forwards (like a typical baseball hat), then adjusted it to the side, now he's done a complete 180 from his original style & wears his pan 'backwards'. He makes ridiculous one-handed turn-around-fade-away jumpshots look easy in all the basketball pickup games & never needs a batting helmet when he plays baseball (the pan was always good enough for him). But he never was very good at stealthy games such as 'Capture the Flag.' Everone could hear the pan rattling as he made a mad dash for the oposing team's flag & they'd all yell "There goes Saucy!" at the top of their lungs. Despite his considerable age (;)), he still continues to play sports & capture the flag, when he's not busy on the downs.

Oh, how utterly perfect. That is just the accent I would have selected for you davem. Heretofore, I will know how to read your posts!

As for myself, while I was -- by my best reckoning -- conceived in Sheffield, I was born and bred in Canada: the Ottawa Valley to be exact. As a result I have the generic Canadian accent with the bit of local dialect not driven from me by my education.

Scary coincidences, I live there. I don't have the accent, not unless I talk to a fellow Lancastrian, who will then inform me that I do have it. While Yorkshire folk always pick up on my Lancastrian accent and ask me to stop 'singing'.

I'm a very 'inky' kind of person, as I'm naturally quite messy - I gather dinner medals, cat hairs and stains very quickly! Plus I write notes on my hand. But my handwriting is a strained, spidery type of copper plate - we were expected to use it at primary school, but alas I did not have the patience to learn to handwrite perfectly, I was probably too busy talking. As for being smart, well...my mother would laugh at that one. She must have thought when she finally had a girl that she could indulge in the urge to buy 'girlie' things and what she actually got was this wild little banshee who would come home covered in all kinds of nasty stuff, having spent the day in a ditch or up a tree. :)

I have no doubt some of them would make great characters. Too bad I don't have time for RPGs anymore. Since I don't think I've described you yet, here it goes:
Bethberry: I've always imgagined you with medium length rusty brunnette hair that you kept in a bun. For special occasions you wear elegant flowing dresses, but most of the time you'll settle for blouses and trousers. Oddly, I can see you sitting at your typewriter thinking up ideas when the sun sets in the west.
Amen to that!
Nimmy: Longer than shoulder length hair and greeish blue eyes. You have copper freckles all over your cheeks and arms. White and green are some of your favorite colors. Since you have a bubbily personality, it doesn't take you too long to make new friends. When/ If your in class you like pass notes to your companions, always coming up with new techniques to get them passed the teacher.

Son of Numenor: I have to admit my mental image of you is your avatar. Same hair, same look on your face most of the time; so I guess I'll just have to create your other details here :p. SoN is not that into horror movies, he doesn't see the point of being scared, but does like most of the PG-13 action movies along the lines of the Bourne movies, Pirates of the Caribbean, & obviously LotR. He has nothing to do with any of the tobacco that's been mentioned formerly in this thread, but I could easily see a cigarette being edited into his avatar (he doesn't smoke, but it still fits my 'avatar image' of him). Looks very 'Matrixy' in black sunglasses & a black leather trenchcoat. Doesn't have a great hand for art, but he's pretty decent at drawing. Listens to a little music, but not much. Has considered growing a goatee before, but never followed through on it. ;)

Bethberry, I love you forever for mentioning me in the same sentence as a rather more illustrious Hampshire woman. Yes, I have a lot of black in my wardrobe but NOT goth. Tallish? 5"10 ..so tall unless in Brobdingnag. Slender .... alas no, (but curves can be good :) ) I am desperately looking for a new sweater and that sounds very nice ... I adore hats and scarves (especially my precious pashminas) and today's are pink to "lift" the black. The hat is wool and round but I also have a corduroy cap, a black felt one which has yet to make a public appearance and many, many more...

Being a grin without a cat perhaps!!! :D (ALthough a certain downer did offer to remedy my catless state......!)

So do I, but I attend orchestra concerts occasionally... my parents drag me. I usually don't mind much once I'm there.
Well, my parents dragged me to a Youth Symphony concert last spring, and I was bored out of my mind! Though the Bass concerto was interesting. (I didn't know they such a large range of pitch.) Don't get me wrong though, I also find most band concerts equally boring.
Since we've made small talk, I'll think you'll be my next victim:
Elrond's-Daughter: Because of your name, my description will be more fantastical rather than realistic. You have long cinnamon brown hair and greyish-blue eyes. Your big lips do nothing but compliment your narrow cheeks. They tend to be rosy from time from time, but not from makeup. I see you in long flowing robes and you love to walk around large gardens and think about times past and the future.

You were right on everything except greenish blue eyes and freckles on cheeks. Good job!
Yay! That means I'm improving my personality guesses. Watchout everyone! ;)

Mithalwen: For some strange reason, I have the same mental image of you as mark12_30...Blonde hair, blue eyes, very motherly, and has an infectious laugh. But since she mentioned that she and Mister Underhill are twins...

Fordim and davem: You are twins in my imagination. Perhaps you should check your family trees. You might be related to each other...and to Tolkien (at least that's how I see it). Oh, and a pipe always comes to mind.

Boromir88: I was under the impression that you are a teenager! Albeit a more mature one.

Boromir88: I was under the impression that you are a teenager! Albeit a more mature one.

As did I, Lhunardawen! Since most of my friends and I were born in 1988, a lot of their screen names have an 88 somewhere in there... I just saw it and assumed, "Ok, so he was born then, too." I guess I was wrong!

When I picture Encaitare, I see a girl with medium length darker brown hair, kind of tall, and with a very Elven appearance. Sometimes this Elf has a pirate hat on, which looks rather cool to my mind's eye. You are musically inclined, probably in a band outside of school. You are probably one of the cool people at school, and have a very eclectic group of friends.
Also, last but certainly not least, you have an uncanny ability to get into characters' heads when writing fanfiction. :)

It seems recent posters are always my latest victims of description:
Lhunardawen : I usually derive my mental images from a persons name, so here it goes. You have long silky black hair. It usually falls in front of your face, giving you a mysterious aura. On occasion you tend to slouch forward a little, but only because you're looking for interesting trinckets and/or money on the ground in front of you. You have a quiet, shy demeanor, but that doesn't keep you from chatting happily with close friends.

StarJewel: Again because of the name, here is what comes to mind: You seem to be Lhunardawen's complete opposite. Your hair is shiny platinum blonde and you have piercing ice cold eyes. Usually your stance is of a confident nature, as if you are performing before an audience. Your voice is high and clear, and easily gets the attention of those you are speaking to.

I picture Encaitare as being a tall, slim gothish girl. She has medium length black hair with a layered cut. Stylish cat like black rimmed glasses that she twirls around her fingers when she's bored. Her eyes are a dark brown, bordering on black.

Though I believe I have seen a pic of The Saucepan Man on the Barrowdowns picture site (I could be mistaken -- I have an abysmal memory), I'll always picture him as tall and lanky, with a friendly clever grin.

StarJewel--

Sometimes this Elf has a pirate hat on, which looks rather cool to my mind's eye.

Gee, I wonder where you got that idea... ;) I actually have a great fondness for fedoras. I've got a black fuzzy angora one, and a black one with a flower on the side that I tucked a white feather into.

You are musically inclined, probably in a band outside of school.

Indeed I am.

You are probably one of the cool people at school, and have a very eclectic group of friends.

That depends on how you define "cool," heh heh. My friends are indeed quite eclectic and bizarre.

Also, last but certainly not least, you have an uncanny ability to get into characters' heads when writing fanfiction.

*Enca blushes madly and grins to self.* As do you, as do you.

Imladris--

You got the "tall, slim, gothish" bit right, but otherwise no.

----

Hmm... now how do I picture you two?

StarJewel is sparkly. That's just how I think of her, due to her name. But in reality, I guess she has dirty blonde hair that she sometimes can't be bothered to brush, but it looks good all the same. She has hazel eyes, and likes to wear shiny jewelry, but her rings sometimes get in the way as she's trying to write or type something quickly. When she needs to, she puts her hair back in a ponytail, but it's usually down. I can see her putting some braids in it from time to time. Since she's a great poet, I imagine that she has no small number of poetry books on her shelves, or web sites bookmarked. She reads Poe and Sylvia Plath, and sometimes speaks poetically and dramatically and confuses her friends.

Imladris is very pretty, with straight, dark brown hair and brown eyes. She still has a nice tan leftover from the summer because she loves the beach. She is a bookworm, and I bet she has a ton of bookmarks but she can never find one, because they're all in use. So, she had to make do with the nearest slip of paper. She likes to write in crazy colors of ink, like purple and green. She likes to doodle while she's waiting for the food in the microwave to be done or for the computer to load. She's very responsible but a bit of a daydreamer.

Encaitarë, for some reason, reminds me of Eowyn. Something about your association with Grima, I guess. And Imladris brings to mind a tall, willowy lady that could pass for an Elven maiden. Long, straight, dark hair and clear dark eyes, and a fair complexion to die for.

Encaitare - firstly, the Plath link - wow - the site is now in my favourites. :)

OK, Encaitare has brown, shoulder length hair; sometimes she dyes it, but never permanently, as she doesn't know what mood she will be in tomorrow, and also, she's quite happy with her natural self, so doesn't want to change too much. She has lots of friends, both male and female, and looks forwards to lunch breaks so they can hang out and laugh, talk about books, play music and so on. Encaitare always has a notebook on her, as do her friends, and they collect favourite sayings, write poems, and draw pictures in them. Sometimes she wonders what she wants to do in life as there are just so many interesting things, but one thing she does know is that she wants to attend university. ;)

Ooh, how I love having people try and describe me!

Encaitarë, for some reason, reminds me of Eowyn.

Lhunardawen-- you're the closest in looks so far, being the only one to have gotten the blonde, Nordic look correct.

Lalwende-- isn't Sylvia Plath amazing? I just finished reading the Bell Jar. Wonderful book. You're right on the money about me personality-wise! I've never dyed my hair, though; my hair's so light I'm afraid it won't ever wash out. And I've chosen my major! As the glutton for punishment and overachiever that I am, I'm going to double-major in Music Performance and Education. And you're so right about the notebook bit. I love my notebook!

Morai-- I'm a she. ;) But you're pretty much correct!

Now for you all!

I don't really have a clear image of Lhunardawen yet, but the soulful Eowyn of her avatar always makes me think of her that way. However, I think she's said she looks nothing like Eowyn, so that shoots down that theory! I get the impression that Lhun has dabbled in writing, and she's a pretty good artist.

Lalwende, contrary to her avatar, does not look like Bilbo Baggins! I imagine her as having a nice cozy little house with lots of pictures on the walls. She has all sorts of unusual books and cool-looking things from museum gift shops and little stores she's discovered covering every flat surface. She always has a couple of candles burning. She likes gardening, and the crunch leaves make beneath her feet in the fall. She loves bright and sunny days, but appreciates the rainy ones too because they give her an excuse to sleep late.

Morai's name has a dark sound to it, so I imagine her as a slender girl (apologies if you're male!) with straight, dark brown hair. She's quiet around people she doesn't know, but is loud and funny when she's with her friends.

Blimey! That's close! All apart from the candles; although I do have some, they are more for decoration as I'm scared of fire! Though I do have an open fireplace, which is great in winter. And though I do not look like Bilbo Baggins, apart from first thing in the morning, I'm about his size, heh.

I knew you would have notebooks! I used to keep them for years and have stacks of them full of writing by me and my old friends. As for Sylvia Plath, I could go on for ages; I specialised in her work at university (I'm a big poetry nut) - there's a lot more to her work than meets the eye. I think Lady Lazarus is my favourite, but Ican also recommend Ted Hughes' Birthday Letters, apart from being marvellous themselves, as they shed a lot of light on her work from a biographical viewpoint. Sorry, I'm on the wrong board for this topic here, aren't I? ;)

You're right personality wise, but as for the looks, not quite. I did want straight hair for a long time, but it looks quite strange when straightened since it's so thick and naturally curly. I am quite slender, so your right on that one. As for dark brown hair, not a chance. :p

I did a report on her, just a month ago, for English class. Reports on dead american poets...we made up tombstones, and stuck them on the wall...methinks my english teacher is a bit morbid sometimes...(but what does that make me...? I asked specifically for Sylvia Plath, rather than be assigned someone... I've been fascinated ever since I randomly found a magazine article on her last year, read it, was depressed for a week...)

Anyway, I've not yet read the Bell Jar, but I have read lots of her poetry.

Ok...on topic now...

Lalwende, in my mental image, does look a bit like Bilbo...from a distance out of the corner of your eye. She has the same colour hair, curly and shoulder-length. Her eyes are brownish hazel. Well, you could conjure up some truly frightening images if you think about it. For me, you might get:

Someone who was born near your birthplace - Marc Almond
Someone who could be said to be 'symbolic' of your county/state - Fred Dibnah.

Rimbaud is a man of average height and build. He doesn't dress fashionably - he dresses perfectly: neatly pressed shirts and slacks, jackets always perfectly fitted and suited in make and hue to the season. He may wear slender gold-framed glasses for reading, but prefers not to. His hair is grey-brown, straight and fashionably not-quite-perfectly-kempt. He always walks at a brisk pace, with an air of confidence, and his face in its natural state is expressionless, save for a subtle glint of thoughtfulness in his grey eyes. He has a charming half-chuckle which he is wont to use when he finds a story or joke half-amusing, but reserves a loud, hearty laugh for the finer jokes and moments shared with friends.

Bb seems like a very dreamy sort of person, who, when in the passenger seat of a car, sits and stares out the window contemplatively for much of the time. She loves poetry and all sorts of literature from way back when. As an RPGer, she's very creative and probably loves telling stories. I see her as short and smiley (actually, the first thing that comes to mind is a cherry, but I doubt that's how you look, Bb ;) ), a generally happy person. She has very friendly eyes, probably green or brown, or somewhere in between, and when she wears her hair up little wisps are constantly falling into her face. Well.... he was the coach of the Nebraska Cornhusker football team for twenty-five years and retired as the winningest active coach in 1997 after winning the national championship for the third time in four years. Nebraska won at least nine games and went to a bowl game every year under his leadership (something no other team has done).

Off the field he and his wife were the nicest people you could hope to meet. He was always working for kids and donating money.

He now represents Nebraska in Congress. Here's a link to his Congressional site (http://www.house.gov/osborne/).

I just saw your post, Estel.
who always seemed to beat my Kansas State Wildcats
:D

Yeah, Coach Tom never lost to K-State.

Come to think of it, he never lost to Kansas either.

He went 50-0 against teams from Kansas.

K-state finally broke through after Coach Tom left, but we will be beating them again soon (once coach Callahan's recruits start arriving- Solich was decent coach but he really let recruiting fall off).

And Kansas... what can you say? Thirty-five years in a row.

Well anyway, Estel, at least K-State can say that they beat us in baseball... oh wait... we always beat you in that too. Umm... track? no... volleyball? no.... boy... you'll have to give me a bit... I'm sure I'll come up with something to make you feel better... maybe...

:p :p

Good, hopefully Nebraska never will (I can't stand the in-state rivals).

Don't keep up much with baseball or volleyball (not that I'd admit to anyway ;)), but I know this year's football game was fun to listen to :p. Anyway, I think I'm getting a little to far off topic...:D
