View Full Version : How do you imagine other BDers

Eomer:  Another thoroughly inaccurate but nevertheless interesting description that I can add to my repertoire. ;)
I'd do one for you but anymore you look like either your pic from the photo page or Snoopy. :D
The Perky Ent

thats an interesting thing to bet...do you not know your own height?
Perky Ent: he must have been a real ent since hes been absent for awhile... i guess his old ent habits gotten to him, but i see him as a blonde boy of Scandinavian descent...
Blonde boy of Scandinavian Descent?!?

Eomer is Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. I just can't make that image (or voice) go away. Maybe it's because I heard that Karl Urban is high on the list of possible new Bonds?

I imagined Captain of Despair much like his avatar. Dark and somber. His picture kind of shattered that image. I was going for long dark hair. Not short red hair. The pale skin is on though. I imagined you fairly short, around 5'8" or so with a fairly lean build.

Thanks, Abercrombie, I was beginning to feel perhaps I was vapor in people's minds! :D You are definitely spot on with the ears, I like my ears, they're nice.

Perky Ent - He's probably about my height, though I don't see him as such, so in my head he's closer to 5'4"-5'5". He has almost-blonde brown hair that isn't really long or short and is never tidy. He's almost always grinning, and most people think he's a little weird but like him anyway. He's usually at least a little out of it. Though he gets decent grades in school, he doesn't care too much.
When I try to imagine him, he becomes somehow inextricably linked with my brother (they're the same age), not because they're alike, really, but sort of because my picture of Perky came from a now much adjusted image of my brother. I can imagine grinning at Perky and saying, "Weirdo" in the same sort of voice I use with my brother. (Perks - that's not a bad thing. My brother's fun to tease, but I like him all right. :D )
Morai is very pretty, and one of those genuinely nice people.
It sounds right to say Shelob wears a skirt. Even though she seems more of a jeans kind of person.
In fact, most people wear jeans, unless I specifically think otherwise - e.g. Eomer in a kilt, Nilp as a surfer. At least Nilp is starting to look Filipino...

Holby is about 5'7" and has a solid (though by no means big) build. She has longish light brown hair that she usually wears braided back out of her [freckled] face. She wears beat up old jeans with spotlessly white button-up shirts and loafers. She sometimes carries a sword.

Morai is very pretty, and one of those genuinely nice people.
Aw...*blushes*, I think prettiness in general is pretty subjective (PUN!), so in a sense I'm pretty to somebody out there. As for genuinely nice, I'm working on it.

Well, *flutters lashes like a loser* now that I've seen Gil, I laugh to think that I ever pictured him looking like Michael Palin. Heh... Gotta admit, Gil is quite an attractive sight for sore eyes... Yay! The love of my life just so happens to be (VERRRY) a handsome prince! And I would've settled for nice, caring, intelligent, LotR fan! Good things come to those who wait. My new motto...I guess...

Before seeing the photo page:
Barrow-Wight: wizened older man, very good looking like Sean Connery (as in Hunt for Red October
Eomer of the Rohirrim: in early to mid 30's, dark hair slightly grown out, with light eyes, strong build
Mormegil: girl, early twenties with luxerious long blonde hair and wears pink dresses (because of his avatar with the monkey shooting a gun, wearing a pink dress, but it was a shirt)
TheGuyWhoBeShort and LittleManpoet: were the same person, obviously similarities to the name. They are late 30's early 40's speckled grey, dark hair and laugh lines around the eyes. Tallish, with a bit of paunch to their bellies.
What I still think
Feanor and Shelob: identical twins
Folwren: young, late teens, light brown hair and green eyes. a bit like Pigwidgeon, zooming all around
Anguirel: mid 30's with dark hair and blue eyes, and a very buff body (I'm sorry this is so embarressing to confess) like on the cover of those stupid romance novels. In all fairness to me, this came about when you were the hunter(or was it ranger) in the second WW game. You came across as tall dark handsome and mysterious.

You both are rather witty in your humor, so I imagined you wanted to be funny that way, saying you're short when you're really 6' 6". BTW, a little Holby fact: tall people fascinate the heck out of me.
Feanor of the Peredhil

Holby is short... maybe 5'4". Which I guess is more average than short, but is still short. She like gardening. She always makes dinner, and there are ALWAYS fresh vegetables.
Don't ask where I'm getting this, it just feels right.

Hee-hee, close, I'm 5'3". I do make dinner 98% of the time (with six of us, even fast food $1 menus get expensive). I like plants but don't garden, so EEHH! on the fresh vegetables, but I do try to get farmer's market stuff.
More Holby thoughts on fellow downers:
Mithalwen:I see her on the tall side, thin with dark shorter hair, quick to laugh but could abruptly turn her steely gaze at you if displeased. Definitely a person who can hold her own!
Firefoot: Her name gives way to a picture of a young gal, thin on the shorter side, but very fast in action and short auburny-red hair that's thick and wavy.
Gil-galad: what can I say? In my mind's eye, I picture him to be about 16, a gangly youth not quite finished growing. He is quite the trouble maker and charmer, he makes me laugh with his antics. Much like Fred and George Weasly from Harry Potter.
Anguirel

Well...er...thanks! All the more remarkable as I was an extremely unsuccessful Ranger; tried to hang the Seer and then got shredded pretty quickly. I think I preferred being a Seer...
Here is a poem I wrote describing myself to an e-friend...
Tis Sloth! O Sloth! Thou bind my hands
And manacle my leaden feet.
And so my vocab must suffice-
I’m tall and dark, a bit effete.
I think I can claim most of the adjectives, but handsome is debatable. Allow me to blush. And I don't have blue eyes, though it would be a guid Scots combination if I did...
Oh, and alas I'm 16...which puts me in a rather more depressing romance genre...

Well, I am dark and somber, at least in personality. But, I am sorry to break the image you had in your head. I would never have long hair, though...ever. Oh, and thanks for the short comment. At least someone thinks so. :D
I would also recommend lynching Durelin, as she sent that particular picture in. ;)
Celuien
09-23-2005, 08:13 AM
Celuien is a happy-go-lucky gal, with short blonde hair and a perpetual smile. She loves the color purple, and wishes to dye her hair the same color.
Oh my, I totally missed this before.
I actually have long and fairly dark brown hair. I'm not quite adventurous enough to dye it purple (my friends can't even convince me to put in highlights). ;) I am, however, known for being the calm, collected, and permanently cheerful member of my class.

Formendacil-40s, grizzled beard, pedantic, (as are the best of us)
This is owed-
Holbytlass-stunning vision of ethereal beauty with fountain of light brown hair, soft, forgiving eyes, dressed in white, with a long train held by ninety-eight adoring suitors...ageless, could be in tender youth or well kept peak of beauty...causes strong, faithful married men to burst into hopeless streams of tears...faultless conduct...marvellous singing voice...
Glirdan
09-23-2005, 02:01 PM
Glirdan is a kid who figured how to get out of the white jackets they keep strapping him into
And I owe it all to this admirable Ent who helped me escape. And Perky is not as everyone thinks, a teenager, but a real live Ent with a Balrog mask he uses when he wants to go into evil mode.
Bêthberry
09-24-2005, 10:58 AM
Bêthberry can best be described as timeless. An ethereal air is about her. She has long golden brown hair – shampoo advert hair – and shiny bright eyes. She wears expensive coats and scarves at all times, because winter goes where she goes. She is never surrounded by other people because they are awestruck by her. Some suppose that she is a white witch, but they are incorrect. Bêthberry is not a white witch.
Shush, Eomer! You'll ruin my reputation as one of the cunning folk and make me think I can give Linda Evangelista a run for her dye jobs. ;)
I imagine Estelyn and Bethberry as two mighty valar sitting atop Taniquetil, immensed in endless collections of literature with a laptop on their laps
The two of us together are immense, Perky, although I have to admit that I do not mount Taniquetil with my laptop. :D But I would be happy to see Esty's patchwork quilts there.

OH MY GOSH!! If your aim was to get me back for making you blush, you have succeeded! Last night at dinner, Mr. Holby did wonder why there was a grin on my face and a pep in my step. Nothing like a compliment to make ones day. I do appreciate the beautious vision you have bestowed upon me, but do you realize I can never now put my picture in the photopage.

Seriously, that's just... odd. Mind-Ang was 30. And since I've started, he had jet black hair and a constant sombre, solemn look, with quite pale skin and therefore visible stubble.
The Perky Ent

Estelyn, Bethberry, and The Saucepan Man all sit in the entmoot, and each have a 20 inch binder named 'Every ounce of Tolkien you'll need to impress people with your knowlege'. They go around in a circle reading from it in Entish. There's a computer sitting in the center, and they go around, dumbfounding the ents in the downs with their knowlege!

Whoa, I always thought Ang was closer to his mid-upper thirties as well...
Holbytlass has long black hair and can best be described as spunky. Though she might not have the most natural talent, she makes up for it with hard work. She has an excellent sense of humor and many friends.
Most everyone thinks I should have reddish hair... maybe I should dye it. ;)

No!!
It cannot be!
I am a unique individual. I am!!
My mental images of people tend to start out based on their avatars or usernames, then grow to encompass some strangenesses that are somehow connected to their posts, and then shift somewhat again when you learn/see what they actually look like.
To take Hookbill, for example, he originally started out, in my mind, as a thirties-ish, married, with two kids, goof- from somewhere in the southern States.
He then progressed to lose the kids (in my mental estimation), lose the wife, acquire a girlfriend, as well as about 50 lbs, and move up to New York.
Upon reception and/or distortion of the facts, Hookbill again moved, to somewhere in London, England. He lost the girlfriend, gained back about 20 lbs, and reset the clock back to 18ish...
He's still a goof, though...

Oooh, much more northern than London I'm afraid; there are other places in Blighty you know. Yes, I am 18 (In a week) though. I actually live in a quaint little village called Parbold, in the sort of between Liverpool and Manchester. Lots of hills and green fields. :)

I prefer the term 'eccentric'. :p
Formendacil, you have been, in my mind, a tall ish american with short ish hair and wears a lot of dark clothes.

I've always imagined Anguirel as somewhat like morm and Alatar (who have always been rather similar in my mind.) He's in his late 20's to early 30's, married, and has two or three small children. He's probably tall, and very funny.

And any Tolkien fan worth his or her eleven copies of the Lord of the Rings knows it.
However, as I mentioned, the distortion factor kicked in, and you, decided my mind, must be a Londoner.

An American? Not one of those! To quote a famous beer commercial:

And very proud of it.
The rest of it isn't exactly wrong, isn't exactly right.
And an interesting thing I learned about myself today is that I tend to blur Hookbill and TOREstel in my mind. If I think of them as people, they are quite distinct, but after reading a, say, Crazy Captions post by one of them, and then scrolling down, I'm hardpressed to say which one posted.

*grumbles* Not ALL Americans are bad. Take Homeschoolers for instance. They're pretty smart and usually not too twisted in the American ways...at least...as long as they keep away from the Civil War. *cough cough*
Reading this thread, I find that I refuse to post any more descriptions. Half the people I think are girls are boys, and half the people I think are boys are girls. It's really quite awful, and has been (more than once) embarrassing when I voice those thoughts.

Why thank you! I was homeschooled, although I'm not sure homeschooling through college(where I am) would work out so well. Something about accreditation(sp) would probably come up.
But here I am telling about me, when I should be guessing about others. So back to the aimless hypothesizing:
I see Rune Son of Bjarne in his upper teens to early twenties, so within two of twenty. He's in college, does not currently have a job(to concetrate on school), and owns a dog. He's actually quite popular, keeping a pretty vibrant social life, but keeps ahead in his studies. Sometimes he's a bit eccentric, but never for any substantial period of time. Oh, and he has pledged loyalty to TGWBS. :D

It's usual with small countries near bigger countries. They've fought for so long to preserve identity, they hate it when people confuse them with "the enemy".
You should try mistaking a Scot for one of the southern sassenach...
Feanor of the Peredhil

I've noticed that I tend not to categorize 'Downers with countries of origin even when I know what said countries are. Except Saucie. But he's the exception that proves the rule.
And that's not saying that I automatically think of everyone as American... I just don't think about countries at all. Or languages. I know these things, mind you. I'm terribly jealous of Heren's knowledge of English, for example, but I rarely pay attention to it. I tend to look more to what is being said than to who is saying it.
I could never draw an accurate depiction of our community members. It would take the comfort of anonymity out of our experience here.
However inaccuracy is supreme!
Eomer of the Rohirrim is a vintage rock star, without piercings, but with long hair and scruffy two-days since shaved facial hair. He wears patched trenchcoats and eschews jeans for black pants. There are chains involved, but in a very classic sort of way. Girls flock to him, as they do to every extremely good looking lead singer who is also the master of riffage. His fantastic wit does no harm either.
The Barrow-Wight lives in a cave.
The Phantom is Fëanor. Inconceivably talented, with arrogance to match, and yet we can't help but love him and listen to everything he says. There are very few that can deny him his will.
Folwren... I can't stop thinking of cute little songbirds. In the autumn. You know, fall wrens.
Thenamir is Zeus. Without the womanizing, of course.
Feanor of the Peredhil greets people with the classic "I'm about to take a picture of one of your body parts. I haven't decided which one yet, but it's for an art class, so you shouldn't worry. Just so you know. Oh yeah, how was class?"

Not to get distracted... but my "fury" at being mistaken for an American was mainly humourous in intent.
Although, if I'm going to get mistaken for a foreigner online, I'd prefer to be taken for a Brit. I dunno why, they're just cooler. Maybe its because Tolkien was British. Furthermore, since people can only tell your country of origin by what you say about yourself, or by your writing styles, it ought to be quite clear from "flavour", "favourite", "labour", "colour", "centre", and so on and so forth, that I am not American...
And, as noted by Anguirel (my twin, sigh...), people in smaller countried DO hate being taken for their powerhouse next door neighbours. It doesn't matter if your next door neighbours are the NicestPeopleInTheWorlders, you DO try to preserve your own identity.
And I have to confess, that while everyone else here knows SaucepanMan as British, I keep picturing him as Canadian, from somewhere between Ottawa and Toronto.
Sorry about that, eh.

I too imagined Anguirel and mormegil - the two Swordies, if I may - as very similar. The 18ness still has me in shock, and on the subject, I was terribly surprised to find out how young Formendacil is. I pictured him as... I can't remember anymore. But old.
Rune Son of Bjarne... has pledged loyalty to TGWBS.To Hookbill, I think you'll find. I couldn't spell rhododendron to save my life. Unless that's how you spell it, in which case I evidently can.

You should try having fiercely patriotic Scottish teachers. It'd make you think Scotland had actually achieved something... or was still an indepedent country... or something. ;)
Arbitrary on-topicness:
Folwren is a vague, ambiguous blob until I figure out his/her gender. The blob is sort of pinky and gaseous. And glows.
Feanor, despite my knowing (I think) that she is quite tall, is now about 5'5". She wears lots of eyeshadow and wears a black, Gothic skirt. She can often be seen twirling and dancing around in it, creating what some would call music on her panpipes.

I'll have you know it's only in the last few years that Scotland has become slightly rubbish.
Hmm, let's see. If I'm a vintage rock star, then...
The Only Real Estel is the drummer. Come on, he holds the tune together; he makes sure that everything makes sense; when I'm almost ruining everything by seriously considering leaving wilwa the Shiriff alive on the final night of Werewolf, he's......you get the idea. :D (Plus, he's clearly rock'n'roll).
SamwiseGamgee is on bass. He's not actually around that much, but his presence is felt everywhere (especially on The Greatest Thread of All Time) and I notice immediately when he stops playing.
TGWBS is on keyboards, because every group needs their insane, shrieking keyboard player (well, maybe 'needs' isn't the right word.....anyway, he's there!) Though he will probably be the first one kicked out for substance abuse. :p
Fordim Hedgethistle is management. Obvious, really. He is power. He sets us on our way in the backstabbing world so very well, because as far as backstabbing goes, he's been there before.
Mormegil and Firefoot are the roadies. Really not sure why, but I'm sure they'd do a great job.

Now, now, don't get too excited.
You cannot blame me, really. You both showed (and continue to show) inherent knowledge in the lore of Middle Earth. You both scaled the heights of the reputation system at an admirable pace. Wouldn't that make anyone think you must look alike or something? :D
I'll try to conjure a unique picture for Anguirel, for your sake.
Anguirel (my twin, sigh...) But if you insist... :p
Now that you said it, Fea, Eomer does have the makings of a rock star. The eyeliner alone does the trick. But I still can't get the deep, mellow voice out of my head.

Well, she's a slug. A giant slug who spits acids and replicates into millions or tiny slugs.
She once fought alongside a giant frog with a dagger against a giant snake with horns. She ended up sitting back as the frog turns the snake into roast reptile.

The Ghosted Princess has that air about her of supreme self-possession and accomplishment, but this is hardly unexpected given her real life affairs.
In her other life, she is the headmistress of a Swiss finishing school for girls--the composed and polished woman of a certain age who acts always with great aplomb. She is elegant, with a cordial, urbane manner which never patronises others but which subtly announces, one might even say, imposes, her authority. She is imperturbable.
When wearing skirts, her silk slips swish ever so slightly; her hair is never out of place. When she walks, one can still see the mannerisms of her training: she could walk balancing a book on her head without dropping it and descend a staircase without looking down.
An accomplished horsewoman, she still rides regularly, although music is her stronger forté. She both sings and plays the piano for her private amusement and that of her closest companions. Her parfum is Chanel #5 and her signature in life is Alléger, suprimer, ne garder que l'essentiel, tel est le secret de l'intemporel.

TGWBS...very amusing, your present picture of me.
I have one picture to draw for you...but it's pretty much from his own writing.
Fordim Hedgethistle - A hobbit. But not any hobbit. A very short hobbit. (Really, you all should read his stuff in the Green Dragon, it's quite hilarious.) And he wears humongous boots, and for some reason, I see red boots. Red boots with the hat that his Avator has. (I hope that I'm thinking of the right Avator.) He's got a serious face for a hobbit...
I know it's not possibly how you look, Fordim, but your character there at the Dragon is so easily picked up on that that's how I see you now. Sorry.

The Ghosted Princess... Don't believe a word of it! This young lady has a highly fertile imagination and, aside from the piano playing, has invented the whole description. Anyone who has met me personally, as she has, knows that my curls, like wizards, are precisely where they mean to be - which does not necessarily coincide with the place I'd like to have them!
But on the whole, it's a wonderful princess description, and if you think Fiona when you think of me, that's a nice daytime (= virtual) persona. Another by night (= RL)...

Orlando Bloom though? I certainly wouldn't mind that. :smokin:
Eomer, now that he has formed a band, is the typical thin-as-a-stick rock star. He believes in the attractive qualities of eyeliner, encouraging other members to undergo the same make-up processes as him. He wields a pink guitar (a manly pink, that is) and shrieks a lot when excited in the middle of a song.

the guy who be short: I'm terribly sorry if you have already fallen victim to my imagination. That said:
the guy who be short is a one-man-band/ stand up comedy act. He often walks on stage in black slacks and dressy coat with tails. Wearing ties is beneath him, and he often leaves the top of his snazzy dress shirt unbuttoned. Height isn't really an issue when he's on stage. Blue eyes sparkle and wink as he feeds punch line after punch line to the audience. Hair...I think blonde, at the moment anyways.

TGWBS commences to roll about upon the floor in laughter
Far too scared of the stage to ever approach it, though I do enjoy sharing laughter in a small group of friends. My clothing consists of the first thing I can find in the wardrobe and is thus nowhere near as cool as what you described.
I do often leave the top button of my shirt (snazzy dress shirt?) unbuttoned in summer. Unfortunately, 6th Form requires that I do wear a tie every weekday, so you're wrong on that account.
Blue eyes? Very attractive, but not moi. Brown and bespectacled.
Blond hair... black. :p And I mean dark dark brown by that, the colour that appears black and resides on every Indian's head (unless they're bald).

I cannot help but see Thenamir as a bear, possibly because of the way he regularly takes extended absences from the Downs but does return, almost like going into and coming out of hibernation. He's not the grizzly type of course, but a large, rambling black or brown bear whose fur ripples in waves when he laughs or when he takes umbrage against some infraction to "Thenamir's Chat Rules" in the chat room. He's very territorial but really plays well with the cubs, though. He doesn't have a harsh growl, but more a low honk that is playful rather than fearful. He has a fondness for berries, too.
piosenniel, on the other hand, is one of those vigorous academic types. She combines her love of fitness and cartography in her job--she's a geographer of the West Coast forests who treks around them constantly mapping changes. In her younger years she was a track and field champion: a graceful and fluid pole vaulter whose tosses (of the shot put!) showed rhythm and precision. She excelled at hurdles, where her successful technique and great running speed earned her many medals. Now, she runs regularly in 10K challenges for charities.

Sleepy Ranger : Despite what he lets on, Sleepy isn't Aragorn incarnate or a Star Wars character. He's what his name describes: a tired employee for the Forrest Service. Why is he sleepy? Because there's no Starbucks in the parks of course! Instead of a walking stick he has a light saber, and occasionally he'll sneak his cloak on over his sandy brown hair that's a bit too long. Not that anyone can usually tell, it's always in a ponytail under his Park Ranger hat.

Well, Sleepy, as I am pretty (okay, very) new here, I'll satisfy your request.
I see you as looking like a smurf. Small and blue, very cartoonish but in a real way--ever seen anyone who just looks like he belongs in a cartoon? Right, well that's you, but you're blue. You wear a hood, of course, and it kind of hides the blue-ness of your skin. You wear t-shirts that say things like "Everything I'll ever need to know in life, I learned from Yoda" and get mad when people ask if it should be 'learned from Yoda I did'. You're obviously always half-asleep; because of this you carry around a large coffee mug. Full of coffee, of course, and drink it so that you don't fall asleep completely. You carry around a big shiny sword-looking thing, but not a standard sword, it's got a funny shape. And you drive an old beat-up pick-up truck.

I have been here long enough now to start picturing vague, greyish blobs when I'm reading through the posts. Some are not quite so vague and greyish anymore (that is mostly people who were in a werewolf game with me ;) ) so let's see what I can make of you.
Kath is somewhere in her early twenties. She's not very tall and she will generally look exasperated with you. She has brownish, shoulder length hair and piercing eyes and is actually quite pretty.
Holbytlass looks exactly like Rosie Cotton, though possibly paler and with darker hair, from the LotR movies. She's also someone in her twenties (either 21 or 29) and she smiles all the time.
the guy who be short is well... short. He is about 22 and he probably sings crazy rap songs and wiggles his eyebrows a lot.
Wilwarin is very pretty, dark-haired and blue-winged. She's sixteen, like all typical fairy-like kids tend to be.
The Saucepan Man is a thirty-something and has a constantly bemused expression. There are several pots and pans on his head and even more dangling from his belt. This makes him jingle as he walks.
the phantom looks like the Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera. The masked version, that is.
Azaelia of Willowbottom is about 15 and has flowers in her auburn-colored hair. Or maybe she's just one huge, bright pink flower, I'm not quite sure.
Mormegil is even shorter than the guy who be short. He's a thirty-something, blonde, blue-eyed and good-natured looking. He wears glasses. Like, 24/7. (Blame it on the avatar).
Folwren... well if I just could remember whether he is a she or he or something else entirely, I might have a clearer image.
Eomer of the Rohirrim looks big, hairy and evil. In an attractive way, perhaps.
That will do for now. :p

Cailìn is absolutely beautiful. Though she is short (only about 5'1"), she has waist length black hair that falls in soft waves and shimmers perfectly in the light. Her golden tan seems to radiate warmth. She never wears jeans... the fabric is simply too heavy for her personality. She tends to be clad in cottens, but mostly in sleek silks and can be often seen composing nature poetry beneath a willow on the edge of a rippling brook.

the guy who be short is well... short. He is about 22 and he probably sings crazy rap songs and wiggles his eyebrows a lot.22? *Giggles like the schoolboy he is*
Rap?! No. No rap. No rap. Whatever gave you that idea, blast it from your head now.
Eyebrow wiggling? Hmm. Moderate. :D

Well, that doesn't sound like me, really. But you just very accurately described my imaginary childhood friend, which makes me think you, Fea, are sort of psychic in a confused way. Do you happen to look like Miss Cleo?

Cailín is one of those girls who causes everyone else to fall over with giddiness; she's that beautiful. She has flowing dark hair and wears gowns of green and gold, radiant and resplendent. Very Elvish, actually. She can apparently change her height: at times she appears small and delicate; on other occasions she appears tall and capable of administering a mighty wrath upon all who challenge her. She is a majestic singer, artist, and poet. Her eyes are brilliantly keen, and they can see through everything, and can reveal every secret of the mind.
She is merciless in using this skill to find out information.

Wilwarin is very pretty, dark-haired and blue-winged. She's sixteen, like all typical fairy-like kids tend to be.
Wow, that is so sweet! :D You are actually very right about the dark hair, and so close with the age. Now for you.
I think Cailin is about 15 or 16, so my age. She has long light brown hair and wears a lot of grey and silver clothes. You most definetely have grey eyes. ;) I have a feeling you can get very hyper, and yet be smart and anilitical(sp?) at other times.
How'd I do? :p
QUOTE]Kath is somewhere in her early twenties. She's not very tall and she will generally look exasperated with you. She has brownish, shoulder length hair and piercing eyes and is actually quite pretty.[/QUOTE]
Wow Cailin thanks! I like that! You're out on most of it but still. Do I really sound like I'm continually exasperated?
Cailin - hmm, I would say mid teens so around 15, 16. Dark hair but blue eyes. Not overly tall. Walks gracefully, in fact is graceful in general and wears things that float around her. A happy bunny but prone to bursts of deep thinking.
Lhuna - About 40 with withering white/grey hair. Very short, at only 4 foot 3. Nah I'm kidding ;) Dark hair, not sure on height though.
Thinlomien - I can only see as Winnie the Pooh! I knew that would happen!
EDIT:
Kath lives in a pub. The house on her left is also a pub. The house on her right... yeah. The house opposite hers? You get the idea. As a result, Kath is constantly in a state of relaxed happiness, but extremely forgetful.
Hadn't seen this :D I quite agree. With 40 odd pubs around it could well be!

Closest so far, though I don't know where all the dark hair is coming from. Maybe I should get it dyed. And I guess the tall really depends on your point of view (that is to say, whether you are taller or shorter than me).

Ah. That seems to be most people's stumbling block. It's getting quie vexing, you know.
Alcarillo: He's about eighteen...maybe twenty at the oldest. Dark hair, dark eyes, and he's shy. When he smiles, which he does often, it's a very soft, 'quiet' smile, if you know what I mean. He's rather handsome, and all the girls wish he would flirt with them, but he doesn't...either because he's too shy or because he's too wise for that. He doesn't talk overly much, but he usually makes sense when he does. When someone does him wrong (on accident) (like killing him in WW) he's very forgiving. He never loses patience, either, which is nice.
How's that?

Not quite eighteen, a bit younger.

Folwren – She's somewhere in her mid-teens. Her hair is dark brown and wavy, and is past her shoulders and frames her face just so. Her beauty has attracted many suitors (i.e., young hobbledehoys begging for a prom date), but she has spurned them all with a wild laugh and gallops off on a horse into a blood-red sunset. She plays a musical instrument, probably a flute or violin or clarinet. She is ruthless and determined when she feels that things aren't fair, and she has an enthusiastic way of rallying others around herself.
Jack – A blond, British ship captain in his 40s.

Ah, it's fair. Hair isn't dark brown...actually a very light brown, and it's a wee more than wavy...and to my waist, not a bit past a shoulders.
'fraid no one's ever begged me for anything, save my little brother in attempt to get me to go out and build a fort with him. I do love to ride...

Speaking of anime characters, I was thinking of LMP's rant (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=407175&postcount=299) in Werewolf 8 where he totally lost it. (He did turn out to be innocent, interestingly enough...) There is a Haku (http://www.naruto-kun.com/naruto+characters/haku.html) characer in Naruto, and he was the first that came to my mind when I read that. He, like myself, can look very feminine at times (http://www.naruto-kun.com/gallery/screenshots/Episode%20012/thumbnails/thumb_(naruto-kun.com)-Eps_012-040.jpg)--just ask Lhuny--so the image sorta worked.

Feanor of the Peredhil: When thinking if Fea two pictures comes to mind.
1. A sea-turtle! When launched from a catapult makes the UFO reportings in the area rise dramatically
2. Girl who is goth, not in that “I want to look like a corps” way, but anyway hope you know what I mean. Black is the predominant colour in witch she dresses (if there is sleeves in her outfit, they are too long), her hair is long and black, she is 5.4 tall and about 19 years.
Fea is a “free” thinker, who do not accept the moral rules of society because she is told 'This is just how it is' or 'This is what God says!'. Rather fea tend to listen to what you have to say, and make up her own mind.(maybe this goes beeond the thread but it is an important part of how I imagine fea)

Well, I guess I have to throw water on the flame warriors, but to be honest, I just cannot see any of those really fitting well any of our Downers.
I can see some ways in which SpM (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/eaglescout.htm) has some of those characteristics, but that doesn't begin to cover all his traits. There's a great deal of davem (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/ferouscranus.htm) in this one, too, but, again, it doesn't quite come to terms with some of his other traits (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/tirelessrebutter.htm), which of course doesn't begin to include his other tendancy. (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/duelists.htm) See what I mean?
Then there's The Barrow Wight's (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/kungfumaster.htm) various styles as his image as one to be feared (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/admin.htm) but also just a little bit of this too. (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/centurion.htm)
I see myself slightly mixed between this one (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/netiquettenazi.htm) . this one (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/grammarian.htm) , this one (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/toxicgranny.htm) and this one (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/coffeeklatch.htm) . I know, hard to believe, eh?
There's a bit of truth (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/rebelleader.htm) about Eomer here, but not enough of his sense of humour. And there is a slight resemblance here (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/picador.htm) of Boro88 but hardly enough to do justice to his profound rhetorical skills. (http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/filibuster.htm)
See what I mean? I think it does a grave disservice to account us Downers as anything ressembling such stereotypes. We are beyond caricature, I say!
(ran out of time--so many more I could have discussed as being inapplicable without in any way assuming allegorical reference!)

Orwell's 1984 was the first thing that came into my mind. I just thought, however, that you'd just come up with a random year. Although 1941 means little to me. Unless your referring to the War, witch would mean that it would be in the middle. WWII, as all should know was 1939-1945.
Oh! Unless you think I am American, they plunged into the war in 1941 ish I seem to recall from my history lessons. I am not American. I am British! And proud of it! Jolly good! Tally ho! Pip, Pip! And Bernards your uncle!

I think it's time someone finally added this to their "guess list:"
The Barrow-Wight
Species: Opii Biggus Shnozolus "The Common Hefty-nosed Penguin"
Habits most of Antartica, eastern Argentina, though he occasionally hops a cab to slip up to Iowa for a wild weekend
Diet includes herring, halibut, young sardines, small assorted South Atlantic schooling fish, and Pop Tarts
Nesting season is in early June. Mating behaivor is mystery since he is a discreet embarrassed animal.
When he is not feeding or caring for his young, he enjoys skinny-dipping, long hot baths, reminising about the 1960s, foot massages, listening to Moody Blues records until late at night with the lights out.
Fairly liberal minded, he would be driving an used Volvo if he could reach the pedals.
I won't mention his pecuilar tastes in television.
Conclusion: The Hefty Nosed Penguin is gentle, easily influenced, yet not overly sensitive. He has a pleasant dispositon, is generally optimistic, and a welcome member of the Animal Kindom, even though he eats crackers in bed.
I hope you find this more amusing than insulting Mr. Wight.

Littlemanpoet, I like to imagine as a Dwarf poet who stalks Dearon and hurls bricks at him saying "Show me up will you?"
I like putting ridiculous back-stories to things. :D
Take Gandalf_the_white for example, I at first imagined him as a small child, but soon I began to think he was a wizard that wore a white pointy hat. In my mind Rune is Marx... or at least, he looks like him. And he smokes pipe, so I guess he's also slightly hobbit-ish. So I guess Rune is a short, rather chubby but in a good way Marx.
Also, even though I believe I've never talked to her, The Ka is clearly your good ol' slightly bohemian painter. A look of absent-mindedness veils a really sharp mind and paint stains veil what otherwise would be a rather snappy attire :p Yes, I always imagine The Ka as a cute painter.
Oh! and before I forget... Diamond is obviously Daffy duck in disguise. But she ain't fooling me!!

Hey now, I make sure I don't spill too much paint on myself, and I have a good smock and pair of pants in case it is anything messy. Ha, ha, cute? The only thing I will say is that you might wish to discuss with Sleepy before you stick a claim to that... ;)

Now that, I believe, is quite true. Many a relative I have claims from Bohemia. And yes, the french-made presumption of Boho lifestyle is very true too.
A look of absent-mindedness
Ah splendid, you found one of my ploys. It keeps people generally themselves. I despise too many ladies and gentlemen with masks, it makes one awfully alone at thought and opinion.
Sleepy looks like a young Harrison Ford !
Yes, slightly. From the left side you can definately make a reference with the jaw line and bridge of the nose.
Personally, all the times before and when I have seen him, Sleepy has always looked like Sleepy to me... :p
And thank you for the compliments Farael, not many with thought like yours do I recieve.

Rune looks like a chicken combined with a frog that was half-chewed on by a martian turkey while eating an eclair himself. :)
Ka looks like the girl I love... wait... Ka is the girl I love... :p

I am oh so tempted to illustrate that, but Rune has vowed to give me a social shun if I push the envelope of jokes... ;)
Truly though, Rune could pass as a very good Buzdan Hayaller, independent of mind, a bit of humour and rebellion against the shuns of tradition... Either that or your Marx icon is becoming a rather good decoy.

Ka! I don't think I ever showed you the picture that I made that turned out looking like you!
Or maybe I did. But if not, here it is again, cos I tried to search the thread to check and it just made my computer freeze. :(

Oh my...!
That is wonderfully close dear, except for the hair colour, but everything else is quite close. Thank you for the portrait my angel of aesthetes, it is beautiful!
You haven't shown me that one before, but I am glad to see it now dear.
Encaitare, you've always looked uncannily like my friend Autumn, especially the fabulous hair.

That was a marvoulus picture, not far from what I had imagined. . . It just lacks the Pilsner Urquell, THE ka always carries around.

Okay Enca, it's official...you scare me. That's how I pictured her as well... Creepy yet ironic with a tinge of hilarity...for me anyway...

Ha. Ha. Ha...
I enjoy the spirits, and every once in awhile, a good skleněný pivo, but nothing is quite as nice as a well done trochu skleněný vodka. ;)
Na zdraví!

Nowadays I can't help imagining Di as Audrey, though I know what she really looks like...I almost know the trouble. I've got her pegged for a crazed chaos-monger with a kitty named Hissyfit.

Fea is Miss Elizabeth Bennet.
Don't even ask me why, but I just cannot fully separate the character from her.

makes note to read that and disappears back into academic papers that are far less fun than dark ladying it up.

Di is a young Dorothy L. Sayers to me, ever since I discovered what a shocking (http://www.psy-strike.com/Diamond18.jpg) resemblance (http://www.historyswomen.com/images/sayers.jpg) they bear towards one another.

I knew she looked familiar..and having been a pawn in the cunning plans she produced for her werewolf game I am sure she could contrive devious detective plots too!
Dorothy L. Sayers cropped up in one of the Oxonmoot lectures I attended - apparently Tolkien was a fan in general but hated Gaudy Night !!!!
