What, no words of commendation for my own fetching chapeau?

Vive Les Expos!!

Oh, I noticed it my dear compatriot and had quite the chuckle, or several, over it. But what can I say? Did Les Expos ever win a World Series? Still and all, mythic potential there. The once and future team.

I am in fact contemplating submitting a picture of my own somewhat after the manner of your own, Fordim, so rest assured that your influence is not waning with your haphazard appearances here on the Downs. :p

Tig, there's a picture of me on the Chat Wights page of the forum. The one that BW has not desecrated with the pirate patch, although I find that one extremely funny. You had to be in chat to understand it though. :D

Did Les Expos ever win a World Series?

They would have in '94 had not the strike interfered. That's why the strike happened, by the way...it was a plot to prevent any possibility of an All-Canadian World Series.

Which is also why, by the way, Les Expos were forcibly removed to Washington...

I do not see that thread anywhere, Bethberry

Also, I just saw the posts by obloquy and VanimaEdhel on the last page. Obloquy says I can put that pic on the page, but Vanima... do you want me to add yours as well???

If ya'll do want your pictures added to the page... can you PM me personally and/or email them to me, because I may not see them on here otherwise.
Thanks :)

'Tain't a thread Tig, but part of the 'main' site (www.barrowdowns.com). Look here (http://www.barrowdowns.com/chatwights.php).

Fordim, bless his ever-gaming soul, has linked to the pirate patch picture. BW created alternate pics for all the ops. Mithadan is Gregory Peck, Legolas/Ulmo is Orlando Bloom, Rimbaud is Miss Piggy (the flip side of his Kermit chat nick), etc etc.

To see the original pic, just refresh the page or go 'hair' for Bethberry (http://www.barrowdowns.com/chatwights.php) . ;)

Hmm, the chat-wights page comes up different ways different times you click it...

I could almost find myself wishing that Rimbaud would bring back that Kermit picture for his avatar. There is just...something about it. ;)

Now that you mention it, definitely.
But I thought more of Galadriel, though Tigerlily would have been a better one, I guess.

They realize that they cannot possibly hope to surpass the sheer "Gandalfness" of your picture.

You don't suppose that this is why she chooses to run an Eowyn site...do you?

You don't suppose that this is why she chooses to run an Eowyn site...do you?

Hmmm...don't really see the connection?!?

And please don't interfere with my blatant attempt at shmoozing the site's host (note that shmoozing means being overtly nice to someone in order to beg a favor in the future such as submitting a new photo, nothing more). I'm sending flattery so that if, in the future, I were to submit a new photo she might consider swapping it in.

As my first was in color, would that hypothetical second need to be in B/W? Not that I'm asking anything...

Kuruharan

Well, it's because she has...oh, never mind.

I was hoping that this Father's Day would produce a good picture of me and the kids, but somehow we'd skipped it this year. In years past, my wife would make all of us tie-dyed shirts (even the dog) and I'd get a photo with all of us so attired.

Note that we like tie-dye not because we're hippies (far from it) but because it's colorful, easy to make and is pretty much pre-stained, which is an important consideration when you have children who somehow always manage to get something on your shirt.

And come on, Kuruharan, get off of the sidelines - it's about time that you sent in a pic.

Bethberry, how well you read me. There is something very impish going on behind those eyes and the world will know when The Lord or the Grins is finally published, and I have to go into hiding like Salman Rushdie ha- ha. By the way I am an older man (single) and I have five Grandchildren, the oldest being ten, I am not quite one of the Dunedain, but I am a pensioner and spend huge quantities of money on face cream.

I'd like to add my ernest appeal to Saucy's - please don't overdo the chatting on this thread! I'm sure brief comments on the pictures are alright, but it's better not to go off on a tangent - personal chit-chat should be taken to PMs.

On topic - I'm still away from home and my PC, but when I get back next week I'll have a lovely picture of Child of the 7th Age, Thenamir and myself, taken when I met them last week, to add to Tigerlily's site.

Also on topic, Tigerlily does look very much like Eowyn on that picture!

morm is just... nothing like I (or any of you lot apparently) imagined him. I always imagined him as small and dark-haired. I think my brain made that connection because of the "mor-" in mormegil. And all you people named after swords should be dark and mysterious...

Fea - Just wow. Maybe I'm biased 'cos I think she's one of the funniest people I know and I like her personality, but I think she's the best looking person out of us. Followed extremely closely by tigerlily of course.

the phantom - How do I do this without boosting his ego? Ah, yes. I would choose Brad Pitt over him anyday. ;) Actually I think tp looks better when not in his suit, though it's disappointing how he's not as dark and evil as I imagined him.

Ainaserkewen - I always imagined her as her avatar. Though I like the short hair.

The problem with me is that people always think I am younger than my actual age.

I could see that. I'm the opposite - for some reason, people have always thought I'm older than I am. They started thinking I was nineteen or twenty when I was thirteen. Now it's not quite as big a discrepancy between my appearance and my age - I get twenty-one or twenty-two and I'm eighteen.

And cool, Tig. :smokin: Take your time - just making sure I'd done everything I needed to do.

I've had both. I've been called all sorts of ages, plus and minus my real age.

When I was 18 I had a beard and a fairly adultish haircut and, especially when I was dressed up a bit, I was often thought to be in my mid twenties.

For a bit while I was 20 I was really clean shaven and I spiked my hair and, especially when I would wear a silly cartoonish t-shirt, I was mistaken for a 16 or 17 year old.

Yeah, I kind of go through phases. Right now I pretty much look my age. Maybe next year I'll be younger? :p

Facial hair does tend to make guys look older...and certain girls too, I would imagine ( ;) ). I'm bad at guessing ages in general, though, so I never try with people.

Now I have to pop back over to Tig's page and see your picture, phantom. That's a cool pic. Got a certain indie, IFC Film of the Week, maybe Pulp Indie even, feel to it. And you know, that makes sense to probably about two of you out there, so I'll just be quiet now.

People have asked me if I was in college for several years now. Basically I think that was just to make sure they didn't offend me if in fact I was, but... Hopefully, when I reach that point in my life when I want to be called an age minus my actual, things'll change. ;)

I'm still trying to figure out obloquy's... Looks like something I'd have a nightmare about. So I give it two thumbs up. :p

Esty, your gown is gorgeous - and you did that by yourself!?

It's great to see new people revealing their faces although my images came crushing down. The biggest surprise was TORE's pic. I never realized that we have an own Smurf here at Downs! :p Seriously though, his new pic is really nifty!

I have on of those cardboard Legolas's in my closet, sadly... My uncle thought I'd like it...

Maybe I should pull that out and practice some moves with my sword.

Oh, and just as a note, the only reason my pic is funny colored was because it was so blurry that I had to do something to make it look better...it's taken with my camera phone, which can only do so much. ;)

I think Oddwen looks very mischievous in her pic... :p And Esty's dress really is absolutely gorgeous...

Esty, your gown is gorgeous - and you did that by yourself!? Why thank you! Yes, I sewed every stitch of it myself (many of them by hand, because of the delicate fabric); I did have a pattern (by Burda) for cutting it.

I think it was highly questionable and even improper to incorporate Legolas that way with the pictures of those Downers. As if we haven't done enough here at the Downs to hold the barricades against the Legoluvvers.

Why, it's enough to inspire me to start a pro-BD fan club and petition! The Truth about Lego is Out There" "Free BarrowDowners from Legolas Identity Theft!" "Stop Abuse and Impersonation Now!"

I foresee a glorious future. We shall be the Spittles--Stopping Personality Theft of Legolas Soon. The fangirls will have nothing on us! Of course, we'll need a photoshop pro to help undo all the copies of that picture! I'll talk lestat into helping us! I was okay with eyeliner, but this is a job bigger than I can tackle myself.

Oh, and, yes, while I'm posting here, I should say it's great to see those images of Child, Esty and Thenamir. :D

And I love Esty's costume. She is obviously a very accomplished seamstress. I'm just miffed that she didn't sew such a lovely outfit to meet me in last summer. :p ;)

All that traveling and partying and his hair still looks great! What an Elf!

New Rule: Only one picture change up allowed. I've been so crazy busy that it's hard to keep up with updates. So, please understand if your pics that you send take a week or more to show up on the page. So, if you've already changed your picture once, then I guess you're stuck... unless you buy me candy, or bow down before me, or...oooo... buy me a pony! But, yeah, I'm not doing it to me mean, it's just for the time being, especially since I may be moving in about a month and be without internet for a while.
Please keep sending in new pics, though :)

What type of pony? We could make a new breed for her, possibly by painting, or airbrushing it some colour. It might have to go in for regular detailing, but it would look awsome. I'll volunteer to do the painting, if someone can make sure it won't kick me or something... :)

Well I can say that I find you very mature for you age, however I didn't expect to find you still on playgroundsCurses, you saw through me. I thought that, at a casual glance, peopl would presume I was in a (small) Buddhist temple.

Actually, the first (major) mistake most teenagers make in life is to leave the playground. This invariably leads to them "maturing" as you say, i.e. falling into adulthood, a complex and harsh world (which some would call reality).

That looks too deep and thoughtful. Anyway, playgrounds are fun, and swings in particular are relaxing, whatever your age (as Indians seem to understand). :D

It's amusing that you call me "mature" though. Most of my close friends would laugh at that. That said, a lot of people in the Downs imagine me as 18ish, some as Middle-Aged and a few as Gandhi (who people only remember aged 60ish),

Bruce MacCulloch is not only a dedicated and enthusiastic member of the Society for Ancient Anachronisms (or is that 'of' rather than 'for'?), but he also indulges in the ancient art of armoury. I know he has told some of us how he built himself a shield and it might be that he has built that very helm you see in the picture.

I cannot help but see Eomer as a folk singer from bygone days, ye formerly famous Donovan, he of colours, catch the wind, sunshine superman, hurdy gurdy man, and mellow yellow fame. They are both, curiously, born in Scotland. But Eomer's voice and humour here are nothing like Donovan's etheral songs of childlike wonder. Catch a few pics for comparison here. (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE47F1CD24CA57F20C6933D41C5A07CE50CCC63 E99713304B41D5B63E068E0C6AE36FE49ABAC2B032F871B0FA 31A65A0FD686E75CF9D46C3C3E9D8EDB&sql=11:cx5ibks96akz)

Hookbill, I think that may be because all of us across the pond are secretly fantasizing that Lord peter Wimsey really does exsist and that if we went to England we could find him. That said, I thankfully don't have that image of all British people. My next-door neighbor is English, and he certainly isn't the Wimsey type. And who's Neil Oliver? Should I be happy with the comparison? :D

You better not waste your time waiting for mine either. I'm a little behind in the technology world. I don't got a digital camera, I think my cellphone is from 1998, and I just recently upgraded to AOL 9.0. So, first I need a digital camera, and the way my technology trend has been going it aint gonna be for a while.

I've been toying with sending in a pic for awhile... however, I don't have anything recent that I like, so the picture I sent in would probably be from when I was about 10. I have lots of pics that I like from when I was little... ;)

Besides, I like hearing how people imagine me. Especially phantom's recent, "She isn't a horse. She's a centaur." :D

But great pictures to everyone who has sent them in. Eomer, you do look like a familiar sort of friendly guy. Not familiar like I've seen you before, just... familiar. :p If that makes sense.

That must be a brick.... my 1997 one was fairly substantial. But the batteries never seem to last so I have had several since guess it may be inevitable that the next has a camera. I have an excellent 35mm cameras and no plans to change.....

Dancing spawn looks nothing like I imagined her. I don't know exactly what I imagined, but your hair was down and you were less pretty... erm... *rephrases so as not to offend* more bland! *It still looks offensive* You know what I mean... ;)

Eomer - For some reason, I always imagined Eomer with straight, dirty blond long hair to about his shoulders. My mental image of him used to be so, laughing crazily whilst swilling a cup of tea around and dropping the contents over himself... Yeah. Anyway, again, more attractive than I imagined. Seems to be a recurring thing actually... maybe I should just imagine all the un-photoed Downers as models or something? :D Work on your eyeliner though...

Some people are just photogenic. How I envy them. I have a good pic/bad pic ratio of around 1 to 50.Sigh, I know what you mean. That's the only photo I could find of me that I was willing to show (which actually showed my face).

it wouldn't be a wonder that there'd be a Miss/Mister Barrow-Downs competition...Interesting idea...

Wear it [eyeliner] anyway! Reject social norms, O Short One!Hehe... well... I already reject most social norms anyway. I would just rather avoid wearing eyeliner with so many chavs around... Actually, I don't remember what eyeliner looks like on me. All I remember is that lip gloss doesn't suit me... :p

Those without a digital camera could use a regular photo and a scanner. There are sometimes one at the library, or you could always commandeer a friend's. ;)

I'm positive I don't have a scanner either...or if I do I don't know about it.

Eomer- The pic I did send in, is of course not myself but it may suit people's imagination of myself until I do get one. :p

Mith- I'm quite sure Europeans are much more advanced in Cellphone technology then us Americans. Talking to a German girl I met her Cellphone is something that we probably won't see in America until 2010. So my Cellphone from 98 is probably something that came out in England in 92 or something lol.

I remember when my cousins uber-yuppie then husband was issued with a mobile phone by his work. It was the first any of us had seen close up (this was mid-eighties). It was like a old Roberts Radio with a standard receiver attached by a wire. It weighed about as much as a breize block and cost a small fortune.
Needless to say we gawped at it and said "it will never catch on......" . Now I have a triband clamshell that is so small I clip it to my bag so I can find it and it was not expensive .....

My friend had quite a spiffy little phone when I was in Florida in 99........

You people are lucky... I have yet to purchase my first cell phone. For some reason, I do not, something that drives friends and family mad. I like to remain 'unreachable' at times... Okay, make that most of the time. I prefer mail, electronic or not. Besides, pay-phones are fun to use... :D

Maybe I am just anti-new telecommunications, I do like my technology old.

As for digital cameras, I am divided. I do like them for their speed, but I prefer the certain memorable quality of black and white cameras...

I'm feeling the newbie factor here considering this is my 34th actual post, but let me just say that I think Tigerlily's photo pages is stupendous. The chatroom version of BD never had it quite as together as y'all all do here, (and their photopages seemed to come in and out with the tides) so you can probably imagine me giggling and twitching with awkwardly anxious glee.

I'm not sure if I'm missing out on some sort of joke or something but does anyone else notice the uncanny resemblance between Morsul and this actor (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001019/)?

Definitely Brad Pitt, though Gothmog himself looks quite okay to me as well. ;)

No one, of course, looks quite like I had imagined them. Then again, most of you are inanimate objects in my mind. Always surprising to learn you are talking to actual people who look all human-like.

Of course, I would send in a picture, but then I'd have to wait for someone to take one I accidentally look stunning in, and since, due to a childhood trauma (or say, traumatic childhood, cause my father is a photographer), I have camera fear, that might take a while. :p
