Okay, so I have put together the page and added the photos of those who have sent them to me. You can find the page here:

http://www.psy-strike.com/barrowdowns.html

I will put a link to it in my sig.

**Changed link to the new photo page site: http://www.freewebs.com/barrow-downs/
(edited by moderator)

If you have not submitted a picture yet and you would like to, please send it to psyknife@psy-strike.com

If you had a picture on the old picture page and you would like that same picture to be posted on the new page, then please reply here and let me know. I'm not going to repost any pictures without the consent of the subject. I know that there are many, probably, on the old page who don't even post here anymore. So, if you are on there and you just want to use that picture, then let me know and I'll take care of it. Otherwise, send a new picture to me at the email provided above. Thanks! :)

Beautiful work Tig.

Excellently done, Tigerlily. :)

I'd be grateful if you would copy my picture over from Alk's site as I no longer have the scan that I made.

Thanks. :smokin:

I agree. You've done a great job, Tigerlily!

I would appreciate it if you would copy over my same picture from the other site as well. :)

Okay, cool... I've saved both of your pictures (The Saucepan Man and alaklondewen), so I'll have them up there soon :)
Thank you for the compliments :)

Thank you, Firefoot... you should send in a pic.
And thanks for calling me "foxy", Snowdog, I think that's the first time I've been called that.

Gang connotations aside, I find H-I's blue bandana to be quite dashing. It gives him a tough, swarthy, somewhat mysterious look. :p

Nah... somehow I wasn't seeing Heren being quite so young, or swashbuckling. No matter how many times he referred to himself as young, he's cemented in my head as about 32. And more ninja-like than piratish. Go figure.

Even on these limited numbers, I suspect that some downers may be related....

Well, I sent a pic, I hope you can forgive it's peculiarities, I find it rather amusing and it does look a lot like me. Well, maybe I shouldn't give my drawing skills so much credit... It looks similar to me. Anyways, It's definitely a good substitute...

Very user-friendly, I must say. A good job. :)

If I can persuade SamwiseGamgee to steal his mum's digital camera then we might be able to send in a pic.

I was thinking perhaps Snowdog and Alk. Both bearded and have that strange thoughtful look on their faces.
But Fea and Tigerlily, I can't quite see a resemblence except that you're both lookin' pretty good! ;)

I would declare that Fea knocks Liv Tyler into a cocked hat, before proposing marriage instantly, but I don't want to be massacred by any, ah, supernatural spectres with saucepan-phobias...

Feanor of the Peredhil
05-14-2005, 02:38 PM
Liv Tyler? I wouldn't go that far... but then again, I've picked that picture to death in the dark room by now, so the final version is not so much a truthful portrait as it is an incredibly awesome mistake-gone-right and... Well, never mind. Maybe I'll switch my final one (which stands incredibly good chances of winning best in show at my upcoming art show) with the pic there now...

Anyhow, thanks for all the props, guys. You've certainly boosted my ego. I feel like Eomer of the Rohirrim. ;)

Fea, from one (straight, thank-you-very-much) girl to another, you're gorgeous. Tigerlily, too. All the 'Downs ladies seem to be beautiful.... P'r'aps the phantom's current signatures isn't so far off, after all.... ;) :D

Now I just need to find a decent picture of myself for Tig to put up. Problem is, I'm terribly non-photogenic....

Feanor of the Peredhil
05-14-2005, 03:30 PM
Thanks very much Eddy. You know, this is starting to explain why I spend so much of my time discouraging suitors that I don't want. Now if I could only get the one that I am interested in... :( Alas for the complications of teenage life. ;)

Oh yes, and Tig, it's true. You're quite gorgeous as well.

elronds_daughter
05-14-2005, 03:45 PM
Alas for the complications of teenage life. Ah, 'tis true, 'tis true... When I was small, one lady pronounced that I would be a "heart-breaker". Meaning, of course, that I would (as yourself) have to turn down many suitors. Fortunately, I'm homeschooled, and therefore don't have much day-to-day contact with potentials.

A bit more on-topic, I'm in HI's blue-bandana-fan-club as well.

Tigerlily Gamgee
05-14-2005, 08:02 PM
"Lookin' pretty good" is an insult to the level of hotness those two achieve in their pics.
*blush* Well, phantom, perhaps you need to be sending in a piccie of your pretty face soonly :)
Maybe we should change the motto of the Downs to "The Barrow Downs, where the hotties hang out!" ;) Thank you all. I've found, from forums, conventions, etc, that the LOTR fandom has many very attractive people on both ends. Take that Star Wars! I mean... heh.

I've updated the page with pics from Lush, Abercrombieofrohan, Orominuialwen, Lindolirian, and Hookbill the Goomba.
If there's one thing I've found while making this page, it's that many members here have some long and tough to remember how to spell names. So, please, if anyone catches a typo, let me know

PS - Fea, they are not just complications of a teenage life... they go on into your twenties, sadly. It's always the ones who you don't want to approach you who do, and those who you wish would never do... and then I never have confidence (or barely do anyway) to approach anyone myself. Confidence boosts are nice, because when you have remained single for so long you can't help but wonder if there is something wrong with you. But I've just now decided that there is something wrong with the male of the species, most of them, at least... or the ones who ask for my phone # and never call :)

Of the nineteen pictures we took on that location, that was the best one. At first I didn't want Gandalf in the background, but he insisted on cameo-ing. However, most of the time it was Gandalf the grey uncloaked! Which was less than pleasant.
:D

I don't get many Photos (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/hukbillgoomba/BarrowGoomba.jpg) take of me these days. Mainly because I tend to doctor them when I do. :p

I attempted to send in a picture of myself, but it failed twice... it's not a great picture of me, but it's the only one I have where I'm not a complete hag.

If I uploaded a picture onto a webpage and posted the link, could you save it from there? I can't seem to email it at all.

Quit talking about other people's pics, Kuru, and send in one of yourself!! :p

Yes, I will practice what I preach and do so myself, but it may take a couple of weeks. I thought I'd wait till I get my LotR costume dress finished and have a picture taken with that. That would be a nice change from the other photo on Alk's page.

Tigerlily Gamgee
05-15-2005, 10:17 AM

Lovely, Lalwendë. That's exactly how I want to imagine you and davem.

Maybe I'll send in a picture eventually... if I can find a recent one that I like. I seem to look younger than I actually am in most of my pictures - which is odd because I am told that I actually look older than I am. So I'll see what I can do.

Besides, I rather like the stereotype of me having red hair. :D

A little advice from someone who knows that most advice goes unheeded, as I was there too. But anyway, don't settle!!

I was about to, as I was tired of seeing all of the great gals hanging on the arms of men who treated them poorly. Anyway, used to complain about the women that I wasn't really into dating, and my carpooler, who was hot but definitely not my type, nor I hers, used to cry about her boyfriend who was a real jerk.

One day something went 'ding!,' and we realized that the person that we were dreaming about was seated next to us every day. Some hard work, sacrifices, and a few scares came our way, but it all worked out - we've been married for ages, have three little ones and couldn't be happier.

Don't settle!

Ok, so I didn't get to update tonight as planned. For some reason the server was down.. at least the webhosting control panel was. Last I checked the page was still there. It's weird, though, this is the first time that I've had a problem with Yahoo. Let us hope that it's back online soon so that I can update :)

Amanaduial the archer
05-20-2005, 05:00 AM
I wouldn't say so, actually - even since Alk's creation of the first picture page, I've still had quite set images of people, even if they don't conform with the real appearances. You might imagine them as RPG characters, or as some aspect of their avatar, or according to something particular that they've said or just the general way in which they speak - the pictures just give another aspect, I suppose. Careful how you chose your avatar in particular, because they can become a person's image almost as easily: Estelyn Telcontar will always be Princess Fiona from Shrek! Similarly, Durelin will always be fixed as the avatar that she had for a rather lengthy period of time - a rather spooky, downright evil looking spirity style thing, which I actually set as my desktop and xanga background for a while, it was just so mysterious and fantastic. And if that means that some people imagine me as a little dancing imp...

Usernames are probably the one image-creator that we can't get away from, and more so if your avatar fits it! If the character is one from one of the films, it's somewhat natural to image you as that actor or actress - Eomer of the Rohirrim will always be Brad wotsit to me ;) Even if your character isn't a film one, due to the many illustrations of Tolkien characters there have been over the years, in books, exhibitions and the internet, if you have a well enough known character, there's bound to be some illustration that will be set to your name eventually - Luthien_tinuviel is a prime example.

If I don't know the Downer well when you first see their picture, or not well enough to have built up an image in your head, the photograph becomes their image in my mind; but every person who I remember having been through the Green Dragon, unless I get to know them better or play with them later, is basically stuck with that image! Snowdog, for example: sure, I've now seen what he really looks like - but the name Snowdog still conjures up a shady looking cloaked individual smoking a pipe in the corner of the Green Dragon. The real appearances of some Downers doesn't change my mental image of them :)

Feanor of the Peredhil
05-20-2005, 07:39 AM
That's not LMP!

I can't make myself believe it. The image of an Indiana Jones-esque professor with tawny brown hair and no beard will never get out of my head.

Fordim is Indie in the action scenes, LMP is Indie while he's in his dingy little office grading papers. Those two images will never be changed.

That's okay Eddy... the page will soon be graced with the same picture of me as is already there, only instead of digital it will have been developed in the dark room (with negatives and techniques created by yours truly). It *should* have won best in show, in my not-so-humble opinion, but since something else of mine won, I can't really complain, now can I? But since it's chilling in my portfolio (at school) right now, and I won't actually be in school until Tuesday... you see how it goes.

Not really ironic Fea, I am merely able to read your thoughts.

This picture gallery is confusing me slightly, because I am hopeless with ages. Hookbill and Aman for example, how old are they?

I was thinking about getting a picture done on the grass but Aina has ruined the novelty of that. I'd better get thinking again. Also, interesting to see those Downers holding an action figure; I think I shall resist the temptation to fit my Eomer figure in the pic though!

Yes, indeed. I always refer to that pic as my "James Bond Picture".
Because this will very quickly turn into a competition: who has the coolest pic.
If you send one in of you holding bagpipes and wearing a kilt, that would be extremely cool.

Such a pair of cynics... Now I suppose the real question is... will you say yes if I do? ;) No, seriously though... I always picture the phantom as himself these days, although occasionally a snout, fangs, and claws have been added, but with Fordim, I've always pictured him the same. Either as Indie himself, or as Marcus. Although occasionally there's a snout, fangs, and claws added. :p

I just sent Tigerlily a pic of me. It's a bit blurry and it was taken over a year ago, but it's still one of the best images of me (and unfortunately there aren't many of those)

I'm now beginning to adjust myself to Downers' real-life appearances. It's not very easy, though. During the almost two years that I have been here, I have had plenty of time to form my own mental pictures of you all.

What a little cutie.

Luckily, all three of my kids have their mother's good looks.

And do you really need an excuse to play LotR? Although I admit that it might look a little odd to neighbors to see a group of adults playing....

Some families/cultures just don't get it. It's okay for adults to paint their faces and bodies, wear goofy clothes, participate in unusual rituals and get all drunked up and shout at other persons playing a child's game (football, basketball, etc), yet if I were to don a cloak and sword and play 'LOTR,' then I must be some kind of NUT.

I'm glad some of our members are encouraging a new generation of fans...

I do a quick version of the Hobbit and LOTR for the kids sometimes before bed, and they have watched all three movies (EE), though I skipped a few of the more boring scenes and lied regarding the fates of the 'dead' - "Oh no, they're not hurt. Those people/horses just fell down..."

The boy figured out that even orcs can't live without their heads attached - the beginnings of skepticism and investigation.

It brings tears to my eyes knowing that my children don't have nightmares about orcs, trolls and the like, yet run screaming from Santa and the Easter Bunny at the mall.

Sniff... ;)

What bright little children. I'd run from Santa too.

The boy figured out that even orcs can't live without their heads attached - the beginnings of skepticism and investigation.
What you do in that case, is to show him the "dead" orc at the end of the Fellowship. As Aragorn's is running to Boromir, the orc looks up and watches him go by. Say to him, "But you thought this one was dead, and he isn't."

:D

Just kidding, of course. I'm sure you are just being humble.

Ha ha. Good point there. Worst case scenario would be that both kinds of people are nuts, because that makes me doubly nuts, being both a sports fan and a LOTR fan.
Oh no, they're not hurt. Those people/horses just fell down...
Ha ha ha! :D
yet run screaming from Santa
That's a natural reaction. I ran from Santa when I was three. Well, I tried to run anyway, but my preschool teacher picked me up and plopped me forcibly onto his lap. I then proceeded to ease Santa's hurt feelings with a "I don't like you! I wanna go!"

Feanor of the Peredhil

Quite honestly, and perhaps not surprisingly, I can imagine this easily. Now the true fun would be if somebody decided to host a Barrowdowns Baby Picture Contest with prizes going out to who can accurately identify which baby picture belongs to each screen name. ;)

The phantom's would obviously be the one kicking Santa right square in the shin. :p

The Barrow-Wight's would presumably be green and glowing.

alatar
05-24-2005, 01:53 PM
What? Not your good looks, too? Is that why you made sure your back was turned in the pic?

Yep. Never considered myself good looking, and as I've never been approached to be a movie star nor a male model, assume that others observe the same. What my wife sees, I have no clue, but I do note that she can't see past her own nose without her contacts...

And, yes, my back is turned, but it's my favorite picture - couldn't find any other picture with the kids and me that I thought was good enough for the B-Ds. As a very proud parent, can't help mentioning the kids when I can squeeze it into conversation.

Ha ha. Good point there. Worst case scenario would be that both kinds of people are nuts, because that makes me doubly nuts, being both a sports fan and a LOTR fan.

And throw in some Star Wars mania, and you'd never have to wear normal clothes again.

Life is short. Have a little fun now and again. My son and I hope to explore Moria (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=11694) this summer, and who cares what others think when they see our wooden swords and shields.

That's a natural reaction. I ran from Santa when I was three. Well, I tried to run anyway, but my preschool teacher picked me up and plopped me forcibly onto his lap. I then proceeded to ease Santa's hurt feelings with a "I don't like you! I wanna go!"

I was never a big Santa fan, and so seeing my kids avoid the 'Santa's lap' obligatory picture (how boring!) every year just warms me inside. And it's not because I'm whispering to them that Santa will eat them, so it must be genetic ;).

What you do in that case, is to show him the "dead" orc at the end of the Fellowship. As Aragorn's is running to Boromir, the orc looks up and watches him go by. Say to him, "But you thought this one was dead, and he isn't."

Still, headless orcs and mumakil-flattened Rohirrim are hard to explain without using the D-word.

Another positive is that that kids and I have discussed that the films do not depict actual events, and the EE extras with unmasked and dancing orcs helps show that it's all 'pretend.' We then moved on to discussing the toy commercials that bombard the kids constantly - "you thought that orcs looked real, then we saw that they were just like Daddy. Now, you see that toy car flying through the air...do you really think that it will perform as such when we buy it and get it home?"

A servile self-seeker who attempts to win favor by flattering influential people. There's an expression going through my head at the moment too, but it's probably too crude to use also. Hey good looking people,

I feel a little awkward sending in my picture because I'm a newcomer, and everyone really only wants to see pictures of those who have long established themselves as cool people. Hope to get to know all of you in time, and to establish myself as someone worthwhile looking at.

Where is this Beltane celebration?
All I know about Beltane is from what I read in The Mists of Avalon, but I'm sure that it's not all that anymore. Haha. At least, not in public.
It'd be fun, though, to go dance the night away.

Here it's just me and a few friends wearing flower crowns all day. *sigh*

It reminded me of Labyrinth.
For some odd reason, it just does...

And I'm starting your portrait today! ... and it might be Labyrinth in the foreground and background. It just feels really prevalent in your photo.

Everyone is beautiful. No one is "more beautiful" than anyone else.

Just have to add my two cents here as I'm a bit older and older people feel the need to ramble on now and then.

Took the kids recently to an amusement park which was attended that day by high school alumni, present schoolpersons, etc. Ran into some old friends and acquaintances, and of course saw a bunch of young people whom I'll never know.

Anyway, remembered when I was back in high school and concerned about how I looked, and how I'd wished that I was more like the football star or whatever. Was like those young people that I saw, looking to be hip/cool/ whatever it was called, concerned about the hair, clothes and not looking too stupid or too different.

Now, you might not believe this from where you're standing, but the football star is aged and bald, and some of the hot crowd are middle-aged, overweight, overbaked, overmade maxed-out lifers. Some of the people are miserable, as it seems to me that for them it was all about the outside. Others changed on the outside, but were the same person that I'd known years ago. Weird thing is, now that the all important 'cliche' is no more, alumni who would not look at me back in the day now share stories about their kids.

When we walked that park as teenagers we never thought that we'd ever be like those older people, but here I am now.

So anyway, not that I was making a point, but enjoy who you are - life's too short. You're going to age, you're going to change, and my suggestion is that if you have to get wrinkles anyway, get them from laughing with good friends. :)

P.S. And my son already knows the story of Narcissus...

yeah, I noted the same thing when I went to my 20 year re-union several years ago. The hot, barbie-like cheerleaders were divorced, fat single moms with lots of kids, and the homely plain janes were the beauties. Stoners were cops, and Brains were in AA... I hate that term. 'Newbies'. If you're a member, you are a member. And besides, It's time we had some fresh faces around here.

Also, just because we've been here forever doesn't mean we're the most popular, or most 'barrowish' (Is that a word? Correct me if I made it up.) some of our most recent members have such effort and assertive participation that I could only have dreamt about when i first came... And I can imagine others who would say the same.

Amoung members there shouldn't be any monarchy or hiarchy (except of course, for the Barrow-Wight and his/her selected Moderators), just the fact that we've found other wights who delight in the same topics as we do, and want to have a enjoyable time.

Okay, I am done with my rant.

Oh, yes, I'm sure she will be. But she had it coming. True she gave me a "yes", but she keeps putting it off. In January she said "as soon as I graduate", then in March she changed it to "after I turn 18 in August", and now she says "after I get my degree".

After that, I'm sure it will be "after I get a new job", and then "after I get my big promotion", and then "after I retire".

I just can't take that torture any more.
But honey, you must understand that if you want to make a pack of cubs, the distance might be an issue...
But I proposed a solution to that. Every other weekend, have your friends pack you in a box and mail you to me. On the other weekends I'll do the same.

Alas, now it must wait longer. "As soon as I graduate" is in barely over a week, and I'll just be too busy for a long distance marriage this summer. "after I turn 18 in August" won't work, because I've reserved that time period for the piercing that I went to get a week ago and could not.

Wow I'm almosut famous around here :)
To be honest, I forgot that some people thought that I looked like Elijah wood.
But the pic I send Tigerlily is very different... I'm wearing a suit and in the meantime I've grown a goatie ... or sth like that.
It's possible that you know me from the old quiz room threads... but they most be very old since I haven't posted there since.... a 100 years or so :)
Your right Heren, I had that Sauron999 account... well well well.... the times they are a-changing.
I'm in an online clan at the moment (we play a Half-life-mod, not counterstrike, though)
and there I'm known by the name Targon. Any know where that guy comes up in Lotr? ;)

Isn't he one of the men of Gondor? Oh wait for it, "Soldier, Third Company, Citadel Guard (Minas Tirith)". Ha. *Does little Dance*

Ok, right, on topic.

Very nice job Tigerlily! I don't really understand your picture, Gil-galad! And is that a picture you drew yourself, Abercrombieofrohan? Looks nice.

I don't have any pictures of me on my computer, but if I ever get around to scanning one, I'll send it over.

If anyone was ever curious, HERE (http://img238.echo.cx/img238/5259/moi0052nz.jpg) I am. Probably the only time you'll see me without makeup.

That's a really pretty necklace. :)

Sorry that I haven't updated in a while... my life has been rather, er, busy, interesting, disappointing, frustrating... well, I've covered the map of emotions, and I haven't been motivated to do much else. I'll try to update before I take my mini vacation, though... but I can't promise that it will get done. Depression has been winning lately, so I don't know what chance motivation stands against it.

Don't worry, Tig. I know alllllllll about emotional-roller-coaster weeks. I would post why I know about them, but I'm sure people don't really want to know about me finishing high school, my dog almost dying, my guy issues, my college issues, my parent issues, or my classmates-til-Friday-when-I-never-have-to-acknowledge-them-as-classmates-again issues.

So here are encouraging words: Things get better. I promise. And since I know everything, how can you possibly doubt me? No, I'm serious. Things always get better. Especially if you make yourself look for things to make you smile. Read a good book. I can name one or two (coughLotRcough). Or watch a funny movie. Or get your favorite kind of ice cream and eat it outside on the grass in the sun. That kind of thing.

And think of it this way... at least your tone-deaf next-door neighbor isn't butchering really good music with his electric guitar by trying to play along. :p

And if it helps, we all think you're doing a fantastic job.

Is this a dance photograph, Vanima, with your hair tied back starkly? I like it, particularly the colouring. Skip the makeup. :)

I must say my accessories are somewhat different from Lush's, as is my taste in older men. Nothing against davem, but Narfforc's piccie suggests something impish to me.

And as for accessories, I'm tied between SpM's adorable kids (tsk, using them to increase your charm quota!) and Meela's cat. That garden wall behind Meela is straight out of Middle-earth it seems to me.

Tig, this is just so cool. Really. You've made a wonderful contribution to the Downs here. Better than cool even!

And just where is your picture, Bethberry??? :)
Ok, I got off my sorry butt and updated. I'm truly sorry to those who've had their pictures rotting in my inbox... but hey, we're dead, so we're used to rotting, no?
I added Balin999 and SonOfBombadil (yay for uping the male count), and removed Encaitare as per her request. I also changed my piccie, because I got bored... haha.

Wow, that new pic of yours is better than the last one, Tigerlily.
You're quite a hottie too :D

What, no words of commendation for my own fetching chapeau?

But Fordim, it doesn't matter what picture we see of you. You are cemented as Indie. Until you post a picture of Harrison Ford, there shall remain no comment. :p
