for all who have since been revealed: foxy! Spoken like a gentleman :p
I must say, malkatoj, there are no words I can form with my mouth... or fingers, that completely explains my envy of your cow..hat-doll.. balancing act. Very neat picture that I felt like calling you out on. Mwahahaha!

Always fun to just look at the photos. :) Wilwarin looks much like I imagined her, though slightly lacking in the wing department. Nice pictures from everyone else as well.

I can't see the new pics. :( I just have to keep imagining you, then. So, Wilwa doesn't have wings and every newly added person is foxy. That's a start. ;)

What's the one thing a female Downer is least likely to own? A pair of scissors I think! How weird - so many of us have long hair! I also wonder how many Downers wear glasses, but haven't got them on in their photos? It seems there is definitely a 'look' emerging. ;)

How did you know?!? I had taken them off for the picture since I usually don't wear my glasses, I usually wear contact lenses.
I noticed the hair thing to. It must be a popular hairstyle all over the world.

I save my glasses for night time reading, but do have contacts. I need something or I'm just totally blind.

Finally after 2 hours of trying I can see the new pic's
Wilwa and Valesse looks more or less like I imagined. The only thing that suprised me about wilwa was the braces and she looks a bit younger than I thought.
Vallesse is allmost as I Imagined, allthough she looks a bit older than i imagined. I suspect the angle in witch the photo was taken to cause this. . .

We must all be far too busy reading to bother going to the hairdressers. ;) Actually no, I don't go to the hairdressers because a) I am tight-fisted and I can cut it myself for free, b) I don't like people poking aorund my head and c) being asked on every visit if I'm "going anywhere nice" for my holidays makes me fell like being overly sarcastic in reply ("oh, just having a fortnight in Mordor, you know"). :p
I wear contacts too. I save my specs for at home because they are so thick I can guarantee I would get 'humorous' comments from people about them.
What has surprised me is that the male Downers by and large look very 'clean-cut'. There aren't many guys who look hippyish, which I would have expected. Could this be my age that I have presumed Tolkien fans to look like that? I did see a lot of people like that at Birmingham 2005, but then I was also surprised to see many, many perfectly ordinary looking older people too.

Wilwa looks much more human than I imagined her. I really imagined her with a manic, static grin on her face, and buzzing around a lot.

I hate hairdressers, well actually I have a kind of fear of them so thats my excuse for having hair all the way to my butt. Plus you get cherged more for a trim if you have longer hair even though they're only cutting off the ends... so just as much as they cut off anybody elses! Besides I look more Elven like that!
I wear glasses too (you can't see because I cleverly have my back to the camera), I'd love to wear contacts but my eye sight keeps changing too much. I have the same problem with really thick lenses and seeing as I've just moved to uni and now have to pay for everything my self; I thought I'd splash out: I spent £257 at the opticians  , because I decided I needed my lenses thinned. I have rimless glasses you see.
I expected the guys to look more hippy-ish too... But I don't think there's anything wrong with clean-cut either!
Boro dances like Tom Cruise? And Gothmog too? Wow Tolkien fans and Ballroom dancers... I thought I was the only one!.... Well I do waltz to my own tune ;) ... But thats a different kettle of fish...

I don't know any let says "proper" dances, I just make my own stuff up and call it dancing.

You can't tell from my picture, since my hair is up in it, but I do have kind of long hair. I've never had it cut by anyone but my mom, and she only does my bangs. The rest hasn't been cut in over 12 years, but it's only grown a foot or so in that time, since it's curly and grows slowly to begin with.
I always imagined Valesse to have the same color of hair as the cat in her avatar for some reason. Also, Wilwa looks like an acquaintence of mine from fencing, except with longer hair. Aman's new pic is very pretty too. And Nuranar looks quite like what I imagined her to be.
Nuranar
11-09-2005, 08:10 PM
Dittos with Oromin on the long hair - mine's a couple inches above my waist (and growing fast), but pinned up and bonneted, it's impossible to see. And I don't wear glasses, although I have them... I use them for distance vision, usually only driving at night. I don't really need them. The frames are period, though, so they'd fit right into that picture if I wanted to look like a bookish spinster.
And Nuranar looks quite like what I imagined her to be.
Hmm... so you think I'm 140 years out of style? Well! :D :p

11-09-2005, 09:33 PM
I started thinking about cutting my hair at Thenamir's line party for TTT. Micheal Martinez was there (I ended up sitting near him) and for some reason he kept calling me Arwen after I insisted I was dressed as a hobbit lass. That didn't go over very well with me, so, yeah... I might get it cut soon, but like Celebuial I can tuck the ends into my jean pockets! Isn't that Famdoosical?!
Oro: I do actually have very, very blonde streaks in my hair, but they aren't very large which makes it hard to see.
Nuranar: I LOVE your dress. Revolutionary era?

Since the message board on the site seems to hate me (is it the dial-up?) I'll post here.
The cow isn't technically mine, so don't be jealous of me, it's my cousins' cow. They have a similar dog. And I happen to enjoy balancing strange things on my head.
Also, I know it's been up there forever but I'm a huge fan of TORE's picture. And so many of you look like people I know!

I noticed that Nuranar's pic, plus her comment about having very long hair, suggests that my dream (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?p=412731#post412731) was pretty accurate as far as her appearance goes, even though the events in it were really weird (And I also seem to recall that the phantom was in fact modding a WW game right around Halloween as well). That's very interesting...

Oh, and since there's a redeye problem, you'll just have to take my word for it that my eyes are bluish-green.

Huh, well, I’ve yet to send in a photo, mostly since I liked my descriptions in How Do You Imagine Other Bders so much and I did not wish to crush the rather favourable images. :) However, my mental images at least are in no way disturbed by the actual photos of the rest of you, so I guess it wouldn’t matter too much. Anyway – I have a webcam now, so finally I can take pictures!
I doubt this image is suited for the photo page, since my webcam is of such low quality that any resizing or converting immediately destroys the entire picture and it’s already a little distorted. Besides, my father recently shot some pictures of me in my elven dress, which would be far more appropriate (if I ever get to see them, that is, which is highly questionable). So I shall just post it here (http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1132452/cailin2.jpg) then.

As for the crazy glint about the eyes, it's nice to hear that your expectations were correct.
Meneltarmacil gained the Sharingan.
Yes, Nilpaurion, dimly-lit natural history museums can give one some redeye in pictures. But it was interesting to hear of this anime ability after I searched for it on Google. And yes, that is the real me, except for the eyes, which only appeared that way because of the lighting in the museum. As mentioned before, they are bluish-green in reality.

Hey, I have been there! And then there was a fire alarm and the whole building had to be evacuated. Huh, how strange.
You do look quite Elven, Cailín.
:) Incidentally, when the first Lord of the Rings movie came out, my drama teacher stared at me for an entire lesson and then asked the class whether they thought I looked strangely like 'that one elf from Lord of the Rings' as well. Unfortunately, no one else had seen the movie yet.
(Suddenly realising I still don't know which of the elves she meant. I hope it was not Legolas).
I recently got another picture of myself taken. I like this one much better then the one on the photo page, but I think I'll just post it here, instead of sending it to Tig.

First of all, jack, this is not the place to ask those questions. Especially not twice in a row. PM one of the moderators, or post your query somewhere else. Don't just tack a completely off-topic post onto a much-visited thread. And sorry, I can't help you. But using exact words will often get you many realted threads. I know this from experience. 'Downers use synonyms often. Or you could type in synonyms. Learn how to work the system, would ya?
Anyway.....back on-topic.
Wilwa, you look beeyooteeful. You look like I should know you. ;)
Apology accepted, Tig. (Now just hope I don't go all Darth Vader on you and kill you before I tell you that....) We all know how busy life can get. We understand. You're forgiven. (and yes, I am schizophrenic.)

Neither Glirdy or Formen look anything how I expected them to look.
Form, for me, has always been a tall, gangly, pale fellow; so tall, in fact, that he swayed with the wind.
Glirdan... well, I simply expected him to look more hyper. Where's the manic glint in the eyes?

Oh, that's actually a very bad picture of me. I could send in a picture of me looking like myself, but I don't think you'd be able to see the manic gleam. :D

I find it harder and harder to believe your true age, Sleepy. (Roa)I agree. He looks older than me. Well, at least, more mature.
And I'm supposed to be a few months off two decades of existence.
Formendacil lacks the gruff (or arrogant, depending on the moment :p ) look on his face. He looks . . . tame.
If I tried very hard, I can connect Glirdan with his posts, although I agree with daga'y here. Where's the manic glint?

Really? Well, let's test that theory out. Now, no looking at the calendar...how old am I?? ;)
By the way, I've never seen myself having a maniac glint in my eyes....Maybe I really should send in a different pic of me....

I'm debating between two similar pictures to send to Tigerlily. This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/sarahlitarose/Hag1.jpg) or this. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/sarahlitarose/Hag2.jpg)
They are each 4 years old (to the month) but sadly, remain the best pictures ever taken of me. :p
Though of course, there's always this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/sarahlitarose/cowallace.jpg) as well....

I assume LMP is referring to this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/sarahlitarose/Sarah2003.jpg) , which happens to be almost 3 years old. I thought I used to have it up at Alk's page, but I may be wrong. More recently I have been caught at a wedding (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/sarahlitarose/Sarah2004_2.jpg), and appear none too pleased. But truly, who cares about me? What you all want to see are pictures of my car. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/sarahlitarose/Sarah-Prizm-29Sept2005.jpg)

So, as soon as I crop and upload the five new photos I have ya'll should check ou the page again for new (and updated) faces!
Also... thanks to those who wished me a happy birthday over on the photo page... but... err... my birthday isn't until May 23rd. Hahaha. It was surprising to see birthday wishes over there. Tee hee! Come back on May 23rd and send wishes again :-)
Lastly... here's a recent pic of me to share. I got this new fitness gear from Niketown and it's hot! I love it! I'm working on my Eowyn-esk physique :-D

For pity's sake. I've been trying and trying to get a stupid, inane comment up on that Tag Board on the photos page and it simply will not post. So:
You are all exceedingly young. I'm sure none of you have seen your Eleventy-First birthday. And I may have mentioned this before, but TORE, I want your hair. And Orom, I want yours too. Bascially anyone with curls, I covet your hair. Mwah ha ha!

Well, I tried to get some recent pictures of myself -- I went to get my hair cut so I took a couple before pictures and a few after pictures. But, apparently, I need to learn the art of self photography, because they all turned out impossibly bad. The best one (read, somewhat salvagable) of the lot is a Before picture, now rendered outdated by my new haircut. ;)
I look severely depressed but that's just because I was concentrating really hard on holding the camera steady. So that's my "intense concentration" face. The one I use to puzzle over Werewolf games. ;)

Hey Diamond18, where did you get that Silmaril from
From that good old Silmarill shop on the street corner.
Diamond18

I crafted it myself. It's one of my infamous light absorbing silmarils. ;)
Balin999
04-18-2006, 05:11 PM
hm..... can you switch off the flash? would be better. Tip: Let a friend take a picture, that way you don't have to concentrate on the camera :p
narfforc
04-20-2006, 02:45 AM
Or maybe get Beren and Luthien to come and steal the flash, or the batteries, or the camera, but then Diamond would'nt have her brilliant Silmaril.
Diamond18
04-21-2006, 11:19 PM
Well now that you've compared the flash to a silmaril I'm rather fond of it. :)
I took some pictures with the flash and some without, but I was also experimenting with how to hold the camera, so most of the non-flash pictures are stunning photographic captures of the sink. My concept of depth and such has never been good. I do have pictures that friends or family took of me, but don't you just hate it when someone's fiddling with the camera while you're standing there smiling and being careful not to blink? And then when they finally take the picture you have a really forced, pained grimace on your face.... Or at least that's what most often happens to me. ;)
Next time I'll try just holding the camera at arm's length and pointing it at myself. Outdoors when its sunny.
It IS on topic to discuss photographic techniques, I hope?
narfforc
04-22-2006, 02:31 AM
I know what you mean, I am terrible with a camera, I hate the things almost as much as Telephones. I try to avoid having my picture taken, I was told by an old wise man that they steal your spirit, since then I've never had one taken whilst I was drinking.
Feanor of the Peredhil
04-22-2006, 07:32 AM
Whether you're taking your own pic with your arm out or in the mirror, a good trick is to look directly at the lens as though it were looking back at you. If you can see the shutter close, you're probably going to get a decent face shot.
And I'm a big fan of the silmaril as well.
Eomer of the Rohirrim
04-24-2006, 04:54 AM
Don't know why I'm sharing these. I got a loan of a camera so I thought I shouldn't waste it. They're so small they may hurt your eyes, so sorry about that.
And why not! Bonus points to the one who first ascertains the referenced movie and actor. :D

Don't go as far as the Middle East.... in Latin America older brothers will do the same... and as a little buddy from where I volunteer said once, out there is Canada, but in here it's Africa (he's from Congo if I'm not mistaken). Same concept applies, out there it's the Internet but in here it's Latin America =P Or should I say  ? No, she is pretty =)

I agree totally with my WW-wife here. Nice one, but against many of my imaginings... And you're so young! (Take this as a compliment or not - it's up to you, but I kind of meant it in the complimentary way) But the red hair is "right" - and something in the attitude that you can see from the picture too...
And Farael: you've been so definitively the "Mario" for so long, that it's hard to think of you as that kind of slender young man with bright eyes and a nice smile. :)
As soon as I get grips with a decent photo of myself - that would be in digital format - I'll come forwards too. Maybe I should try to scan one (I'm just so bad in the use of these applications)? But this is a nice thread anyways...

We were there! In October! Only because of a lost passport did we get the extra time. That's at the end of the Serpentine!
So close to a random meeting! We (well, 5/6 of the family) were there at the end of December and spent a significant amount of time wandering around that spot.
I have a picture of the Serpentine on my desktop... ;)

I have a picture of the Serpentine on my desktop... ;):) Cormorants. Princess Di's memorial. All kinds of sidewalks leading all over the greens. Very "forward" squirrels and pigeons. Dogs, dogs, and more dogs (with their owners): we saw Border collies, Great Danes, Golden Retrievers, you name it, they were there. London truly is a town for dogs and dog lovers. By the way, the Italian gardens are actually in Kensington Gardens, not Hyde Park; but that's an easy mistake to make, since they're right next door to each other.
Okay, that's probably about as off topic as it gets, so I promise to take this to PM if everybody else is just rolling their eyes. :p

First things first... if you want your picture to show up on the Barrow Downs photo page then you need to email it to me. I don't always come scouring through here to see if people have been posting photos and expecting them to show up on the other site.
Secondly, I'm sorry updates have been slow. I have had some recent emergencies in life... my car (got hit on the street and needed body work), my cat (got gum disease and I spent lots of time at the emergency and regular vet), and myself... so I haven't been around. I've been spending too much time worrying about getting my finances under control and getting my health back on track. This is on top of the fact that I work two jobs and am working 14 hours days a couple times a week.
So, I'm sorry if you get annoyed that your pictures don't show up right away, but right now I seem to be able to update about once a month... just so ya'll know.
Thanks.

*hugs for Tigerlily* No problem, gal! We all get smacked around by real life once in a while, and I think it's safe to say that everyone really appreciates all the hard work you've put into the photo page. Hope both your cat and your car are doing better.

I'll second and third what has been said before. =) I surely appreciate your hard work on the photo page and it is really a nice way to make the fourm experience less impersonal. This way we can have a face for the comments we read and it is a bit more like a community of people rather than of very inteligent humanoid text producing robots :p
But all jokes aside, I thank you and wish your cat, car and yourself good =)

Ang - have you got a "Room without much of a view" or are you becoming an anchorite?
Anguirel
05-25-2006, 01:05 PM
Sort of both. I love my room actually. It's far longer than it looks and it's always dark and forbidding, which makes me feel as if I'm ruling over some medieval hall...sort of serious here...although the walls are covered in Titian posters...so quite Renaissance. (Not to mention Venus of Urbino desktop)
While the view is a bit, ah, austere, the window's also got access to the roof and I can hear anyone coming in by the boy's entrance if I want. If I were to conquer my boarding house, this would be the place to start...
And the housemaster's kitchen is close by for possible raiding.
As Mith pointed out by PM, a painting commemorating my recent murder of Glirdan can be spotted left of the window, ho ho...
Diamond18
05-25-2006, 01:28 PM
But Glirdan was not a pheasant. :p
Anguirel
05-25-2006, 01:47 PM
Actually I think it's a grouse. Though that's a fairly uneducated guess...not flamboynt enough for a pheasant, too fat for a quail or partridge...

Nice photo, Ang. Where did you get your costume, if you don't mind my asking? It looks awesome. I wish there were medieval banquets around where I live, but we don't usually get that kind of thing.

The good news... we're on to page 3 now!
I may have fun photos to share in a few weeks... I'm going to Toronto to The Gathering of the Fellowship (hopefully... assuming it still goes... which it probably will) and to see the musical! I'm excited!

The second one is really to prove that I am, in fact, Scottish and am free to wear a kilt. I would have liked to show you a better picture and I did honestly take about a thousand photographs, but the quality is generally poor (I'm no photographer) and I don't know how to make it better on the computer. The others look quite fuzzy and so I show you this image of a rather shy-looking me.
The first one is really to prove that I have eyes. :D

Ooooh, the long awaited Kilted Scotsman picture! :D And what a yellow room.
I would have liked to show you a better picture and I did honestly take about a thousand photographs, but the quality is generally poor (I'm no photographer) and I don't know how to make it better on the computer.
I scoff. Not only do 99% of my pictures turn out horribly because I'm so photographically inept it's disgusting, but they get worse when I scan them onto the computer (because the scanner is generally old and decrepit, and leaves odd specks and streaks on the image). My photography is way worse than yours. :p
Er, yeah, I'm just complainig because all the pictures I took of the cat didn't turn out, and so all that premium cuteness I thought I was capturing is lost forever. And ever! *sob* But I digress.
My hair is short now. This is, like, big news.
Wow Di, you look exactly like my aunt.

We have a quaint custom here in Britain, a serious looking gypsy will approach you demanding ever so nicely money in exchange for a sprig of heather, if you refuse they will curse you and your kin for the next ten generations and slash your tyres. As a matter of interest Eomer do you have any children or drive a vehicle, and how much did that piece of Glen cost?
Eomer of the Rohirrim

I don't like children; I don't like vehicles; and I have nothing against gypsies: so I am not at all your average Briton. :p
That little flower cost £4 from a flower shop. My dad was outraged because, you see, back in his day it would have cost not ha'penny. Nevermind the fact that we have heather growing in our garden. It doesn't look very good so we splashed out. Needless to say, it was destroyed by the end of the night. The scant remains are lying on my desk as I type. :(
