Hookbill's latest is a bit . . . repetitive. ;) But I'm sorry to see he isn't drinking out of an official Barrow Downs mug.

Where are these photos?

And I would like to point out that I have never heard of a brick barrow with a wooden door!
(or a nice litlle sign saying A 24)

This must have been a nicely organized bureaucratic barrow. :)

Well, al, you do look tall enough and slender enough to be able to make swishy movements in wizard robes but the rest of the clan seems a bit shortish in comparison. It is really only Mrs. al who we can see does not have hobbit feet--unless she, er, um, *cough* depilates them? She looks great in a very dishy dress though!

Did I mention that I stand nearly 10 feet tall? Them kids are near giants themselves...;)

alatar continues in his willful disbelief in regards to his children, though they do tend to eat as only hobbits can (and hence the reason he takes them to places were it snows food and rains drink, as they say).

Your children look adorable. Your eldest(?) daughter really takes after he mother doesn't she... the little ones look more like you.

She looks great in a very dishy dress though!
And that after FOUR children - if it weren't for the above mentioned strong likeness you'd swear she'd stolen them....

And speaking of that, I made sir Volo upgrade my picture with a more recent one (taken not even a week ago)... so you can look at it too when you are looking on Cobbler's one. (Er... already happened :D )

Hmm...I think it's about time I posted photos of my recents meetings with BDers in Europe:

Rune and me (http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/Brinniel/DenmarkandSweden072.jpg) in Copenhagen. Don't laugh at our matching turquoise outfits- we were at an ice bar where everyone else was wearing them too. Oh yeah...you know you're jealous. :p But outfits aside, I'm afraid it is a rather bad picture of me (and that's after fixing the red eye)...but it's the only one of the two of us on this particular trip.

Legate and me (http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/Brinniel/Praha077.jpg) in Prague. This picture was taken on the Charles Bridge, which is the most touristy bridge I've ever been to.

This one was posted elsewhere before, but I think it deserves reposting in the proper photo thread. Volo, Greenie, Aganzir, Lommy, and me (http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/Brinniel/Finland077.jpg) at the train station in Helsinki just before I left. Hmm...I think we ought to photoshop Nogrod into this picture...

The brief meeting of Amanaduial, tgwbs, Anguirel, and me (http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/Brinniel/Oxford010.jpg) in Oxford right after a formal hall. A few days later, tgwbs and me (http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/Brinniel/Oxford057.jpg) had drinks at The Eagle and Child (of course).

Laitoste and me (http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/Brinniel/London083.jpg) in London during the intermission of the LotR Musical. :)

Kath and me (http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/Brinniel/London350.jpg) outside a bar after have plenty to drink. It's a good picture...I don't think we look too tipsy.

And Volo, to answer a question from Facebook: If you want to post the final picture on the photo page, you can either use the photo from this link or I can email you a copy. I'm not sure if it'll be better quality or not.

I think it was 3/4 full. . .I doubt that it is often completely packed as the prices after the first drink is ridicules, anyways they where all wearing outfits identical to ours.

Hey Brinn, I love you photo's from Oxford. . . However I was very suprised by the tallness of Anguirel

Brinniel

Yes, no joke. They have to keep us warm somehow...but I must say, it makes the whole ice bar experience that more amusing.

The advantage is that you don't have to worry about what to wear...because everyone looks equally stupid. :p

But I repeat Brinn's question to Lommy ... funny how?It might be for that tipsyness (tipsiness? is that a word? and if it is, how is it spelled? spelt? aaargh, English is not my strongest point tonight, it seems) Brinn mentioned. :D But you look very cute too, maybe it's the perspective - you look very small and besides you look genuinely happy/ be enjoying yourselves, and that tends to make people look cute (and funny :p).

Kath
06-06-2008, 05:58 PM

Been there done that. When it's very cold, snow on the bare foot feels like sand. Running in the snow with just shorts makes you feel like your heart is going to explode.

First of all, I walk around all winter in Alaska wearing crocs or going barefoot, sometimes during firedrill at school I run through a foot of snow almost barefooted (It's all my secret plot to become a hobbit, I'm already starting to grow hair on my feet!)... I don't wear a coat unless it is below 10 degrees Fahrenheit and wear t-shirts every day...

Anyway, I thought that your avatar was a self portrait, it looks kinda like one of my cousins self portraits...

Here's a picture of me doing the 'Bob Dylan' thing at a local pub. Hmmm...no, actually, it was more likely a blues number (perhaps John Mayall's Room to Move), as I'm playing the harp through a Sure Green Bullet (the round, green mic to the right in the pic), which, when fed through an old tube amp, gives a wonderfully distorted, fuzzy sound.

What, you mean my musical catheters? ;)

Yes, I play multiple instruments, but rely mainly on guitar and harmonica. Actually, if you could see the floor at my feet, you'd also notice six or seven foot pedals as well (for various sound effects). It's all rather electronically mesmerizing. I guess I'm just lucky they haven't figured out a way to hook me up intravenously while playing.

We have a Czech proverb - I am not sure what the etymological origins are and it would really interest me - that somebody looks like "an owl from (or of) noodles". (I don't even know if it's meant the way that the owl is made from noodles, or that it looks out of a pile of noodles. Probably the latter, though.) That's a beautiful church, Lindale. (I'm assuming it's a church...)

An old Anglican church built during the American colonization period in the Cordillera area (around the 1900s I believe). Those Anglo-American missionaries succeeded in less than twenty years where the Spaniards failed for three hundred years--Christianizing the area. That is in Sagada, Mt. Province, way up in in the northern mountains of the Philippines, where the people are believed to be dogeaters and savage head-hunters (true, in a sense). Beside the church is the Anglican graveyard, and opposite that is the very traditional graveyard of the Igorots (hollow tree-trunks as sarcophagi, which hang very gracefully on the mountain cliffs), which thankfully the Anglo-Ams did not destroy. Well, if they did, the Igorots would have hunted their heads like they did the Spanish. :D

Oh by the way, that was taken two or three years ago, so maybe the wave of modernization has more or less changed the area... I hope not.

I think looking younger than you are is a common "problem" among us 'downers (I "suffer" from it too :)) but you know, if you look younger you can buy children's tickets to everywhere and get everything cheaper... err, nothing, I mean, because that's obviously criminal. ;) Anyway, it does work the way you said: reputedly, my mum was IDed for a bar (you can get in if you're 18) when she was 24 or something, and now she's soon 43 and many people assume she's in her late thirties and are surprised to find out she's a bit older. So, good for us babyfaces, eh? :D

Although I don't know that much of Sequoia or Madrona since we don't have them here, they at least look nice. So unless their leaves are sticky and smell awful ten metres away, they should be as good entwife trees as maples. ;) Or maybe they look a bit more entish though...

Beregond
12-07-2008, 02:28 PM
Thank you, sir! :)

The flags were difficult to acquire, I have to say. I got them with perseverance and rather a lot of money. I REALLY wanted them to go with the pine wall I put in - total room Tolkienification. You may have more luck than I finding these flags. I bought them on ebay, from the company in Germany who makes them (flaggen-pehl is the company name, the ebay name was different). You can find these flags/banners on several German and international stores. I didn't order from a store because it was hard to find one that shipped to Canada for a decent rate.

The banners themselves are light material, screen-printed. Not thick and embroidered like you might hope. However, if you know what you're getting they are very nice. I see they've made a snazzy new "Boromir" flag.

Here's the company that makes them: http://www.flaggen-pehl.de/index.php?cPath=3_19&osCsid=8f9565620371302d80048968b6b5d322

Yes, it's mine. First medieval sword I'd held, as well. Did my research before buying it though. They're available for anyone to purchase, depending on local laws of course. I feel obligated to say though that anyone considering buying a sharp sword must place safety first. No children can be allowed to handle it or access it. Be extremely careful using it. But I like mine, and I've had fun cutting bottles with it. Having and handling a sword has brought a new perspective to the way I view the medieval ages, and Middle-Earth. It feels more real. :)

That is an awesome page there, thanks a lot for posting the link. I'll have to see what I can afford and what I want to purchase, probably something Gondorian.

The good part is that since I live in Germany I don't expect the costs to be that high for transportation.

I actually have a fairly Tolkien-like room myself, also wood everywhere and since I live in the attic and the room is as long as the house it looks a bit like Beorn's hall with beams spanning over the width of the room to support the two sides of the roof. Now all I need are some of those flags... :D

Yes - not even close. Old enough, in fact that I'd wish it would move out already with that sweater that it's been hanging around with.

Well, that's very nice too, Mig! While I dislike the portrayals of "succesful young men" in commercials, I think you here seem like an essence of a true, real one (in contrary to the construct that is usually pushed on us, i.e. a self-made man who has everything he ever wanted, but it gives the impression that despite that, his life must be completely hollow).

Abiball in GermanInteresting you call it that in Germany... from abiturus I guess, like we have in Finlad. Those getting their matriculation examination from a senior secondary High-school are called abis in Finland as well.

And my God how the Finnish abiturients drink... (says one who has taken part into something like 11 abi-cruises on a ship after their school ends, by the request of my students...) :D

Laurinque, so I was quite right about Goldberry.

Legate, this is a picture that looked kind of special, so I chose to take this one, also because it probably is the one I look best in. :D And trust me, I am far from having everything I ever wanted, I'm trying to get there at the moment though.

Nogrod, indeed, the exam is called Abitur here. And we also are abis. Only difference is we didn't have a cruise, but rather a trip to Hungary to the shores of the Balaton Lake, quite nice place. I had had quite many drinks (champagne) in the morning when we received our diplomas and since I was out the night before I had to sleep for two hours in order to be "fresh" at the ball that evening. Ah the joys of bad hair...:p (ahem I style hair for a living;)) Although I do hair on other people everyday, my hair is always a bit of a mess, I'm letting it grow out and the humidity this year has made it look rather hobbitish some days...
Aganzir...you should use conditioner dear. It's not just for your hair but for your scalp as well, keeps it nice and mosturized and keeps your natural oils in balance. Brushing your hair a little bit can make it shiny, too much can make it oily. (sorry just though since I knew I could spread some hair love;))

Only now I typically rock a 1-2 inch beard most of the time so that actually adds another few years to the look, but you get the idea...

Cheers,

Estel

P.S. Thanks Hookbill for the quick help :D

I don't think they update the main thread site anymore... well at least not since sometime in 2008.

*raising eyebrow*

The Only Real Estel is hot, ya'll.

(Leave it to me to be classy about it, of course)

For those of you who are, for some reason, not friends with me on Facebook, here's probably the latest decent picture made of me, on a train to Moscow, next to my lovely cousin (I'm the blonde):

(Gah, why does Wordpress let you scale images & save, and then does not reflect the scaling? Bad Wordpress, very bad)

So I realise that the 4 1/2 picture of me on the photo page looks nothing like me anymore. Proof?

I think the only reason that the picture on the page is still up is because my senior photos are probably the best photos of me ever taken. But the picture above is much more recent. It was taken two weeks ago and is my current Facebook profile picture.

Brinniel, that sure is an interesting picture, especially when contrasted with the one on the main site. Why the change? :)
