In case anyone needs a recap, here's the story so far of The Phantom and Alien;

The Phantom was fired from his job and so decided to try and fake his own death. Before he got a chance to he was taken in by The Hoody Cloaky Group. They had an ulterior motive for taking him in as it turned out they wanted to kill him.
Meanwhile, Lalwende forced Alien to apologize to PC Eomer for messing up his office. When they got to his house, it had been blown up. Lal decided that there is probably a massive conspiracy going on and enlists Alien's help for his special knowledge of explosives. The trail leads them to Suspicious Bob's oats, but the boss, Mr Namshif, is always hidden behind a wall. When they are attacked in their own office, they discover that some people with hoody cloaky things don't want them investigating the oat factory.
Alien goes to visit The Phantom and follows him to The Hoody Colaky Group's hideout, which he promptly destroys. The group is desperate for a new location and it falls on The Phantom to open up his house to them. Meanwhile, Alien and Lal discover that Mr Namshif is not the rightful owner of Bob's Oats and so go to find his house. On the way, they see an explosion.
Purple Pete, one of the Hoody Cloakies, eats a whole jar of Alien's Exploding Beans, supposedly killing them all. The Phantom was outside (getting wine) at the time. There was one survivor; THE GREAT FISH MAN.
Reporting the explosion to the Police, The Phantom found himself being arrested, but then let out by Mr Gross, his old boss.

Alien and Lalwende continue their investigation into the strange Mr Namshif...

Before reading this issue I had no idea ironing boards were so headstrong! I would like to complain about the misrepresentation of the Ministry of Homes, Houses, Smials, Barrows, and Sundry Other Domiciles in your article on vacuum cleaners. You misstated that the Ministry announced an abolition of dust in favor of the government-sponsored alternative, brust.

This simply is not the case. We understand that dust forms an integral part of the lives of many in our communities, and we do not wish to discriminate against them with the passage of unfair laws. Therefore, those who do continue to have dust in their homes within one month will not be arrested and thrown in jail without trial as is customary; instead they will be automatically vaulted into the highest tax bracket, no matter what they actually earn. We feel this is a much fairer alternative to the usual draconian legal measures, and plus, we really need the money.

I did! The character's expressions are my favorite parts of the strips! For this last one, I sat there looking at Lommy and wondered, "How does Hookbill do this? Does he sit there and draw it just so, or does he just wing it and it turns out like this - consistantly good?"

I did! The character's expressions are my favorite parts of the strips! For this last one, I sat there looking at Lommy and wondered, "How does Hookbill do this? Does he sit there and draw it just so, or does he just wing it and it turns out like this - consistantly good?"

A bit of both. :D

Lommy and Alien are quite difficult, I have to say, as they only have one visible eye at a time. The Phantom offers different problems since I have to rely solely on his eyes to get an expression across.
Who knows? perhaps one day we'll see what's under that hood of his. :eek:

Danny Boyle has been a favorite of mine since I saw Shallow Grave, since then he's gone on to make three masterpieces(Trainspotting,28 Days Later and Millions), a near perfect film(Sunshine) a guilty pleasure(The Beach) and a total miss(A Life Less Ordinary). Slumdog Millionaire comes out of nowhere and it could very well be his best film and one of the best films of the decade. Visually like Boyles previous work it's stunning, Apocalypse Now and City of God come to mind and there are dutch angles galore. The raw style mixed with the amazing locations make this film one of the most cinematic experiences you'll ever see. The Sound is perfect, I haven't heard audio like this in a while. This film needs a Sound Oscar nomination, it sounds that good. I went into seeing this knowing very little about it and the person I took with me didn't know anything about it, so I'll just say it's about a young man that goes on Indias Who Wants to be a Millionaire, it's a very unconventional film where they tell the story of his life in flashbacks while he plays the game. It's funny, sad, thrilling, basically a very enjoyable film that deserves numerous Oscar nominations. Also the lead actress is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen, if she isn't a huge star after this I'd be extremely surprised. If the academy doesn't honor this film with numerous nominations it will be a shame but this film will be studied in 20 years and whoever sees this will love it, so even if it doesn't get a single nomination it won't matter. Don't miss this film, it's perfect!

Danny Boyle has come up with some interesting cinema, certainly defining himself as someone above average. What he achieves in "Slumdog Millionaire" is transcend the line between inspiration and a miracle, awakening an emotional connection to the very special element great cinema can deliver. The packages might have changed, and the contents are more controversial and maybe a bit more tied to reality, certainly taking us to an exotic local, teaching us that our world extends beyond our freeway and limited perception of how more than the other half of the world's population has to deal without certainly preaching to us.

The tale of two brothers' lives is told to us through episodic flashbacks tied to an episode of India's "Who Wants to be a millionaire?". At first, the story introduces one of the brothers as being the subject of a very strong interrogation to find out whether he is being truthful about some knowledge that might be relevant to the game. As he answers the questions, we discover that this young man's life story might be more interesting than we originally expected.

There is an element of freshness in the way the story is presented, as we accompany Jamal through his life odyssey from a young child in the slums to a man who is determined to save those he loves. There are some strong emotions in the film, and Boyle's direction keeps the film dynamic and engaging.

Prepare yourself to be overtaken by emotions as varied as joy, pity, happiness, anger, revulsion, surprise, and an exhilarating conclusion rarely seen in movies anymore. This film has made me grateful to be alive and that we still have people in cinema like Boyle who understands the power and beauty of the medium. He knows that the perfect mix of a great story and the respective imagery can provoke unforgettable memories in its audience.

I've been thinking about something. You Phantom and Alien fans may be interested. As My brother and I have been making volume three (he's doing the pictures because I physically can't do the stuff I'd need to in order to tell the story well), I've decided to do a prologue. It will start with my artwork and slowly fade into the new style.

Now, for this prologue we'll have Death getting drunk in Burnt Burt's Bar. He will be talking to someone. Who should it be? I think some sort of contest is in order, don't you? ;)

The art is much better and the story much more complex and slightly funnier; there's stuff my brother puts in the background that is highly amusing.
Anyway, as a result of this, for the first few episodes I may go back t the once-a-week format until we think we're nice and far ahead to go back to two and maybe three. We shall see. Still, I hope you'll think them worth the wait.

Right, the votes are in and it seems quite clear that Legate will be the one to appear in the prologue to volume 3. I'll get started on that soon. Just so you know, the break between series will be a few weeks long, and I'm going back to the once a week update for a while. But here's what's coming up;

8 th May - The last episode of volume 2!!
11th May - A special three-part Phanston and Ailsbry
1 st June - Special comics drawn up by other Downers.
22nd June - Volume 3 prologue
29th June - Volume 3 episode one!

So, as of now, I am officially opening up the place to artists who want to draw P&A comics. I've left a three week gap for you, so that's a maximum of nine people, but I can work with less. So, sign up now! The earlier you say yes, the more time you have to draw.

Oh, and by the way, on 25th May it will be the 150th edition of The Downer, after which I will be putting it on hiatus for a while. The Downer is a great newspaper, but not as good as The Sun for lighting fires, in fact I have lost a number of computers attempting to burn down my house for insurance purposes. I must make plain my displeasure at your copyreader's inability to properly spell check your headlines, particularly when the blurb regards yours truly. In the 'Downer edition from Week #144, I noticed the following: "Rivendel elects Moth as new leader". Let's ignore the fact that the Westron variation of Imladris is spelled R-i-v-e-n-d-e-l-l, but the text in total should have read: Rivendell elects Morth as new leader". Yes, the Dark Elves have taken over Imladris from the decadent Noldorin pansies.

We of the Moriquendi have been for quite some time taken aback by the Noldor's seeming nonchalance at prostituting out their daughters to mere mortals. The whole Aragorn/Arwen debacle was the straw that broke the mûmak's back, so to speak. Add to that Galadriel playing a strumpet to a Dwarf, and one can plainly see that the Noldorin leadership is evidently a few strands short of a full head of hair, and the Moriquendi have taken action, shipping the remaining Noldorin faction to a long retirement in Valinor (where they can eternally bask in the glow of Manwe for all we care).

In conclusion, we request that your copyreader be executed post-haste for gross negligence. Torture will not be necessary, unless it eventually ends the life of said copyreader.

We're just two weeks away from the climactic conclusion to Volume 2! It's exciting, it's weird and has at least one more explosion. That can't be bad. Or can it?
Don't forget, after Volume 2 ends we'll have a three-part special adventure for that crime fighting duo Phanston and Ailsbry, followed by some special challenge comics from Oddwen, TheGreatElvenWarrior and Aganzir (any one else want to sign up for that?) and THEN we'll have the prologue to volume three. Oh, and Hookbill, I've been planning to tell you that for some time already, but somehow never managed to do so - I wonder if that's a sign of something. A few times, I've been "replaying" Phantom&Alien dialogues from the videos with my brother when we were walking somewhere, or such (Lommy had actually witnessed one, so that's what reminded me of telling you). Or, we have been "singing" the background music to Fungoltch&Schmurt video.

Oh, and btw, we were wondering which language did you use when recording the Fungoltch&Schmurt video (as it obviously isn't English). We came to these conclusions: Obviously, it's some language recorded backwards. At one point, I came up with a theory that perhaps it's actually this Fungoltish language (the one used in the comics), but just played backwards. To that, my brother reacted, saying that possibly it's Fungoltish that has been recorded backwards and then played backwards. :D

Indeed it is! It makes me quite sad to know that I will not be able to read the last P&A until nine days after it's published. That fact alone is going to ruin my entire kayaking trip. :( Perhaps I should cancel it.

Anyway, I'm greatly looking forward to Volume 3. From the preview artwork I've seen it looks highly entertaining!

It's been an interesting ride. We went from a lost job, a crazy investigation to a secret group and a power crazed Fish Man. What could be next for The Phantom and Alien? Where in the world will they go?

Fans, Romans, country men, I present to you the FINALE of volume two. Almost a year in the making, this story was designed to excite, entertain and induce vomiting. I hope it has done all of these things and more.

Now, to round off this fine volume, the longest P&A comic EVER!
