Hey! I'm new here. I love Lord of the Rings! I made a mistake in my profile and I don't know how to go back and change it. Could I get some friendly help? I have already posted some... posts, on the "Tolkien, founder of new religion?". So I not compleatly new.

well I never actually offically introduced myself..I am back from a long vacation from the Downs, well I hope to have fun here again, you people are just crazily knowledgeable about Tolkien........I need to catch up..I plan to write a paper about Tolkien's mythology...
My name is after a kingdom of my original stories (trilogy), sort of Tolkienesque, actually technically these stories haven't been laid down on paper yet, tried three versions already and didn't like them at all, but I just love the world I created and its history.
So...anyone up for a drink in the Green Dragons?

That reminds me of carebears... Wait a minute! What if there were BarrowDowns carebears?... Then we would have to them 'BarrowBears' or 'DownsBears'. The second one sounds like an effective anti-depressant stuffed animal, though. BarrowBears it is! Bringing you welcome and a good afterlife!
Sorry, I'm getting carried away. Okay, well, everyone have a BarrowBear and if you are depressed or just having a bad day, have a DownsBear. You can think up names as well, if you like, because i'm performing too much brainstorming on the subject...

Hello, everyone, I am Dimturiel and I am quite new here. I think it would be polite to introduce myself. ;)
I do not exagerate when I say that most of my life revolves around LOTR. I read it twice every year, at Cristhmas and in June-when the school holyday begins. I also write poems and stories that are either inspired from Tolkien's works, either take part in Middle-earth. I have been a Tolkien fan for three years and three months and I have never been more proud of being anything else before. Also, I am very proud to be here, with people who share my love for Middle-earth, and I have to say that I feel quite at home here. I hope we will get on well. :)

Elonve, a "sticky" thread is one that stays on top of the forum list so that it can be located easily, whether or not anyone has recently posted on it. Only the administrators and moderators can use that function, and it is reserved for important, basic information, announcements, etc.
Turgon Philip, I'm glad I'm able to help! I'm not exactly a "pro", as all of us who help keep the site running are here for fun like all other members, including our esteemed founder, The Barrow-Wight. But I'm happy to pass on what assistance I can give.

That was so cliche` (I love it.) I've been in the chat rooms (*whimper*) for over three years.. maybe even four. Its been too long. Really... and I used to have an account here on this most loverly forum but considering I didn't know a thing about Lord of the Rings then (I'm still a bit clueless when it comes to certain things) the account kind of... deminished into the southwest.
Oh, right. Talking about myself and all here... I'm really just planning on being your regular barrow-mirth-lurker and tend to have ridiculous ideas in general. Just ask people who also chat. I'm a total brain-case.
But, hey, if I have the time maybe I'll even try to start up those good ol' fashioned BD comics. That is if someone wants them started up...

Hi! It's nice to be here, amongst fellow Tolkien enthusiasts!
I am 18 years old, male, and very much not looking forward to school starting (first year of college . . . . yay??)
Besides that, I don't really have much to say about myself, save to give a "status report" with regards to my knowledge of Tolkien lore. I've read The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings (all three, of course . . . ), and The Silmarillion several times, and am currently reading them again as a refresher. That having been said, I am by no means an expert (after reading some of the threads here, well, it's incredible how many little details and subtle connections one overlooks, and some of the theories put forth I found very interesting), so I hope to learn much from you all.
- Koth
PS - I'm really bad at introductions, so if anyone has any questions or anything, go ahead.

There are lists like here on RotK's IMDb site (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0167260/fullcredits) (I know you said you don't want the actors' names, but it gives the character names as well). There's also a less extensive but more descriptive list here (http://www.lord-of-the-rings.org/books/lotr_characters.html).

Characters
The 9 of the Fellowship - Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Boromir
Of the Race of the Elves - Elrond, Galadriel, Arwen
Of the Race of Men - Theoden, Eowyn, Eomer, Denethor, and Faramir
Others - Gollum, Shelob, Sauron, Saruman
Those are some of the more important characters. If you need more info just ask and I am sure there will be other who can help more than I can.

Greetings, I am The Amok.
I have just yestarday finshed reading The Hobbit for the second time, (first time when I was about 13) and it has opened my eyes once again to the great majesty that is Tolkien's works.
I am now on to the Lord of the Rings, again (which I have read the trilogy once), and after conquering the latter I intend on reading The Similarion, which I haven't read so far, but I can't wait.
This forum is a strange place to me, what with all the strange emoticons and symbols and such, but I look forward to discussing Tolkien with all of you.
Tips and pointers welcomed.

I am currently reading the Silmirillion and a few Stephen King novels. I like music a lot but none of this dance or trance rubbish but heavy Metal and rock like : Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Rage against the machine, soundgarden and so on. I love doing quizzes on Lotr so any questions on the books or films will be welcome.
The Fish will find you.....

My darlings, welcome!
I highly encourage you to PM me with any questions about our non-traumatically decaying lifestyles here. After all, the alternative to answering private messages is to actually concentrate on one thing long enough to get my never-ending pile of university homework done.

Welcome Capatin Grishnakh to our lovely site. You'll eventually learn how everything works and as for what we call the Avatar (the pic under your screename) you have to have first a saved picture that you want to put into it. Then, go into your User Cp and press Edit Avatar. Once there, click browse, find the place you saved your picture to, open it and press Save changes. I don't know if there is another way that you could do this and if there is you'd have to ask one of the other Downer's. Have fun!!!

Welcome Aira,
I will be your guide for today. To your right is the Buffet Table. And just over the ridge to the left is the Complaints and Lost Luggage department. I suggest to stay away from them, they're a bit cranky. And straight ahead you'll see a graveyard which will be our final stop.
Ok, seriously now, Welcome and have fun here at the downs.

Hola all. I'm obviously a new member here. Shelob has been telling me to join for a while now (and at least two other people were telling her to make me join) and I was extremely bored now so decided to actually listen join. Well after spending an hour of trying to come up with a name because I wanted it both Tolkien and turtle related...

Let me be the first to welcome you, my dear ALT-coded Marcolie Lamen. As an un-official greeter, I know that I should either copy and paste or at least make an attempt at your diacritics... but it's been one of those days. č,ë,ĺ... they just hold no allure at the moment. :D
But new members will be ecstatic to learn that the 'Downs is great stress relief for days like mine! Welcome. Don't forget to wander aimlessly and find neat stuff.

Or, as Mr. Galad has nicely begun with, if you continue, you have the chance of being offered to create your own name... Warning though, it takes much mental power and stress to reach this goal, but the rewards are cute sounding...

Anyway. I'm Mrs. King of the Dead, but you can call me Ala, because, yeah, well, its gets annoying typing Mrs. King of the Dead over and over. But anyway. I just joined today and have practicly no idea of whats going on.
Help? *smiles sheepishly*
Well Ala/Mrs King of the Dead to begin with I would suggest reading the FAQ's thread which is around this place somewhere. Then just wander around the Downs for a bit to get used everything. And if you need any help feel free to PM somebody, everyone here is very helpful!
Enjoy the Downs!
