It appears the quote itself isn't the problem; it's identifying the speaker. Here's a hint.
It was said by a wise person, directed to one who had just done a dangerously foolish thing.
Coincidentally, I just posted in a thread in The Books in the last day or two which touched upon the chapter from which this one was taken.
