Okay. Is it, "Morwen, Morwen, when shall I see you again?"
Problem: I honestly don't know who said it or when. Obviously it was said to Morwen...but her identity escapes me at present, hence the identity also of the distressed person who appears to be leaving her. I think this is a shockingly clear sign that I need to re-read at least the Silm, if not other Historical books of ME.
Galadriel55
03-01-2011, 11:04 AM
You got the quote right. It's from COH. Think: who is disstressed, because s/he is parting with Morwen for quite a while? There aren't that many people.
Folwren
03-01-2011, 11:17 AM
I told you. I don't even remember who Morwen is, unless she is Turin's mother, in which case it may be his father that is speaking to her.
Folwren
03-01-2011, 11:18 AM
lol. That came out a little sharp. Is it Hurin? :)
Galadriel55
03-01-2011, 11:21 AM
No, not Hurin, but you're on the right track. ;) Keep trying.
Hint: Morwen is indeed Turin's mother. The person who she's parting with will not see her ever again (but they don't know that, they think they'll meet some day)
Folwren
03-01-2011, 11:35 AM
Okay...Turin himself, then, maybe?
Galadriel55
03-01-2011, 11:43 AM
Yes!
Now Turin was made ready for the journey, and he bade farewell to his mother, and departed in secret with his two companions. But when they bade Turin turn and look back upon the house of his father, then the anguish of parting smote him like a sword, and he cried, "Morwen, Morwen, when shall I see you again?" But Morwen standing on her threshold heard the echo of that cry in the wooded hills, and she clutched the post of the door so that her fingers were torn. This was the first of the sorrows of Turin.
~COH, The Departure of Turin
One of my favourite passages from COH. :D
Folwren

I haven't read all of COH. I really should, you know.
I'll get something up maybe later today.

Do you know what the problem is? Neither at home nor at work do I have copies of Tolkien books. My copies are at my parents' house, but whenever I'm there, I'm not on the computer much.
That being said, I'll put forth an effort and put one up toda.

Sorry for not replying sooner, for some reason I didn't get any notification on my e-mail account. :o But with all these new letters it won't be difficult to guess anymore!;)
And welcome to the game, Nolwë-Namiel!

"Alas! It is ill to walk in my shadow! Why did I seek aid? For now you are alone, O Master of Doom, as you should have known it must be. Now conquer alone!"
Turin to himself after Hunthor's death. That's one of my favourite COH passages. :)

Ok, I found that I mixed up the word order, now all's fixed. I hope. Every time I put up a quote here something is wrong with it.

Don't feel bad about that, I can bet you on the Hangman mix up front. I was on one of my other forums, and somehow managed to (likely due to lack of sleep) post the quote, and miss all but one O that I was supposed to include....:o
Anyways, S, please?

Okay, I feel like a jerk coming in after only guessing one letter....actually...I feel so much like a jerk, that I won't fill it out. I'll let Tuor or Lady Brooke do it.
