I'm pretty sure I got all of them. I added one "L" that I missed.
Folwren, I don't think it was quite guessable last round but probably is this one...
Hint: look for key phrases. Don't try to solve the whole thing. Find a phrase or two that you can identify and work from there. I think that is what Firefoot and Guinevere do and I know it's what I do. Don't be too hard on yourself I think you are doing great.
"Yet even as I write it is cooled, and it seemeth to shrink, though it loseth neither its beauty nor its shape. Already the writing upon it, which at first was as clear as red flame, fadeth and is now only barely to be read"
Isildur writing of his experience of the Ring.
And Folwren I'd not have got it without those S's, I needed 'seemeth to shrink'.

A's
You're very kind, Mormegil, and I don't think I'm too hard on myself. Just a bit frusterated at times...I ought to be able to get half of these quotes that are guessed. The main problem is often that I get on too late and though it's possible, someone's already got it. :) But it's all good and I'm having fun still. I comfort myself that the game will go on and I will someday get one.

Amazing how many times Gollum tells Frodo and Sam to rest, then wake up, then don't rest yet... I think I just spent more than a half hour on that quote. Nice one, Kath.

I just moved apartments today so all of my stuff is still packed. I sadly will not be able to find a quote and be able to keep up with it for at least a day or two. So as to not let such a worthy game go too long without action I shall hand my turn over to either Kath or Folwren. They were close on the last two. The first one to get it has the turn.
Sorry about that.
I wasn't really involved in the last one so Folwren can take it.
Folwren
07-31-2005, 09:18 AM
I don't understand...first one to get what? Anyway, I probably wouldn't be the one. Give it to Kath, she's better than I so has more right to it and she's been around more. (Now, if you're a guy, Kath, then tell me so and it won't be the first time I was wrong. I have an excuse, though...really I do...for thinking your a girl. )

I think I've got it (more or less)...
"The dread that haunted the great Tower, and fear of the glooms of Fangorn that lay behind it, might protect it for a while, but if it were unmanned and neglected, as it was in the latter days of the stewards, that protection would not long avail."
It's about Orthanc, somewhere in UT, but I haven't found it yet. Is this just narrative, or is it really said by a person?
Edit: I've found it now, It's in U.T, " The Battles of the Fords of Isen", in appendix (ii), and as I suspected, it's just narrative.
Obscure indeed! ;) :p
