Indeed there are!

O

"----- / - / ----o-- / --- / ------- / -------_--o- / ----o-- / ----"

Guinevere
02-19-2012, 11:05 AM
how about T?

Galadriel55
02-19-2012, 04:47 PM
TO (no T)

"----- / - / ----o-- / --- / ------- / -------_--o- / ----o-- / ----"

Guinevere
02-20-2012, 08:34 AM
What, no tea for me?;) let's try N then

Galadriel55
02-20-2012, 09:51 AM
We have coffee? :p

NOT (no T)

"----- / - / ----on- / --- / ------- / ------n_--o- / ----o-- / ----"

Guinevere
02-22-2012, 01:57 PM
Well, it seems I can't do without the obligatory E's...;)

Galadriel55
02-22-2012, 04:33 PM
Don't tell me I haven't warned you! :D;):p

NOTE (no T or E )

"----- / - / ----on- / --- / ------- / ------n_--o- / ----o-- / ----"

Guinevere
02-23-2012, 03:16 AM
Ha! You managed to find a quote entirely without E's?

A please

Galadriel55
02-23-2012, 06:15 AM
No, I started reading a certain Tolkien book to look for one, but then remembered a nice E-free quote that's not too short or obscure. :)

NOTE (no T or E )

"----- / - / -a--on- / --a / ------- / -a---an_--o- / ----o-- / --a-"

Guinevere
02-23-2012, 10:42 AM
How about Ss ?

Galadriel55
02-23-2012, 11:18 PM
SANOTE (no T or E )

"----- / - / -a--on- / s-a / --s---- / Sa---an_--o- / ----os- / s-a-"

Now it shouldn't be very difficult. :)

Guinevere
02-24-2012, 11:24 AM
"Uglúk u bagronk sha pushdug Saruman-glob búbhosh skai"

No wonder I couldn't figure out any other words ! :D

Galadriel55
02-24-2012, 02:06 PM
This is, of course, correct!

No wonder I couldn't figure out any other words ! :D

Haha, yes, orcish slang uses the letters that aren't very common in regular English, and doesn't use those that are. :)

I just wish Foley was around for this one...

Ah well, I'll just have to find another one without E's. Maybe not for next time, but eventually...

Folwren
02-25-2012, 03:54 PM
Oh no! I missed the no 'e' sentence?? Dear me! How unfortunate.

Guinevere
02-26-2012, 02:47 PM
OK, here is the next one:

"-----/!" (said .....) "-----/ -----/! -/ ----/ -----/ ---/ --/ ---/ ----/. ---/ ----/ -----/ ------/ --/ ---/ ------/ -/ ----/ ---------/ ---/."

Galadriel55
02-26-2012, 03:25 PM
Do I have to say which letter I would like to guess? :Merisu::D

Guinevere
02-26-2012, 05:23 PM
;)

"-----/!" (said .....) "-----/ -----/! -/ ---e/ ---e-/ ---/ --/ --e/ ----/. ---/ ---e/ -e-e-/ ----e-/ -e/ ---/ ------/ -/ ---e/ -e-----e-/ ---/."

Galadriel55
02-27-2012, 05:55 PM
"Arrow!" said the bowman. "Black arrow! I have saved you to the last. You have never failed me and always I have recovered you."

~Bard, just before he shoots Smaug.

Guinevere
02-28-2012, 07:02 AM

Guinevere
02-29-2012, 04:16 PM
I guess there must be some E's here ;)

Galadriel55
02-29-2012, 05:35 PM

Guinevere

"------/, ------/, -e-e--e-/ --e/ -e--/ --/ -e-e--/! -/ ------/, ----/ ---/ ---/ -e--/ --/ ----/ ----e-/ -----/?"

I probably should have put in the E's right from the start! ;)
Btw, there are some names in this quote, but I shall not write the capitals as it would be too obvious! (When this game was started, many years ago, we first used only capitals for this reason. But now it doesn't let you do this anymore.)

You know that feeling when the quote looks familiar - the "shape" of it, the phrasing, the rhythm, etc - but you just can't get hold of enough of these associations to really figure it out?:smokin:

T's please.

Guinevere
03-05-2012, 04:41 PM

I did the same because I had no idea where it was from. :o :D

Lol...and I know it, and where it's from, and who the person is speaking to, but I'm blanking on the actual person speaking (plus, I've been absent for months). So who else knows it?

You could always check it in the book. That's not cheating. :p

LadyBrooke

Yeah, but (at the risk of angering the chat squirrels, please don't hurt me) I'm in the process of packing to leave college for the semester...and I'm not sure how kindly my roommate would take to me unpacking all the books.

So...anyone else?

Guinevere

I'm sorry if I picked something too obscure. I thought Galadriel55 might recognize it because of the ongoing chapter-by-chapter discussion...

I thought Galadriel55 might recognize it because of the ongoing chapter-by-chapter discussion...
