It indeed was Party Field.

Yours again!

Da Skorpion
03-17-2005, 06:47 AM
This one shouldn't be too hard...

Elves beautiful and bright,
tortured in the night.
Afraid of the sun,
I made each of them now a dark person.
Tough soldiers in line,
each of them are mine.

Nilpaurion Felagund
03-17-2005, 06:57 AM
Orcs?

Da Skorpion
03-17-2005, 07:05 AM
Yeah you can join imo.

But no, not Orcs, watch the 'I' and 'mine' :)

Nilpaurion Felagund
03-17-2005, 07:11 AM
Big black guy, stupid-looking head accessory, scarred face? :smokin:

Da Skorpion
03-17-2005, 07:21 AM
Correct. Melkor/Morgoth it is.

The thread's yours.

Nilpaurion Felagund
03-17-2005, 09:58 PM
I walk unseen, but not unfelt.
I seek a gold ring, but not for wealth.
I talked to the father of the Elf-warrior
And chased the Ringbearer through field and river.

Easy one, methinks. :smokin:

Celebriel Esgaledhel
03-17-2005, 10:46 PM
Strider?

Nilpaurion Felagund
03-17-2005, 11:20 PM
Sorry, no.

Da Skorpion
03-18-2005, 02:24 AM
The Nazgul?

paavo
03-18-2005, 11:05 AM
Smeagol perhaps?

Nilpaurion Felagund
03-20-2005, 08:59 PM
;) Just kidding.

Erm, a Nazgűl is somewhat right. But which Nazgűl did the things done in the last two lines?

Da Skorpion
03-21-2005, 03:32 AM
Witch-king of Angmar?

Nilpaurion Felagund
03-21-2005, 03:42 AM
I'm sorry, no.

Da Skorpion
03-21-2005, 04:09 AM
Khaműl...

Marky Lazer
03-21-2005, 04:10 AM
It has to be the Shadow of the East, Khaműl. Besides the Witchking of Angmar, he was the only one of the Nine named by Tolkien.

I talked to the father of the Elf-warrior
The Elf-warrior should be Legolas, his father Thranduil, who were Elves of Mirkwood. Khaműl was in the Mirkwood as I remember correctly, so he spoke with Thranduil there?

Anyway, if this is correct, I give the thread to Da Skorpion anyway, because he did most of the job.

Edit: Oh, I see her already answered. Goody then...

Celebriel Esgaledhel
03-24-2005, 11:27 PM
NF, ya going to confirm? I think the answers were correct - no use delaying any more... :smokin:

Da Skorpion
03-25-2005, 02:51 AM
Yeah, didn't want to nag about it, but yea

It has to be the Shadow of the East, Khaműl. Besides the Witchking of Angmar, he was the only one of the Nine named by Tolkien.
LOL! I didn't tell you that a few minutes before your post, eh ;) ;) ;)

Btw, the Witchking of Angmar isn't named either I think, its more a title.

Gil-Galad
03-25-2005, 08:21 AM
Well i've heard himm being called Er-Murazor once and awhile...

Nilpaurion Felagund
03-25-2005, 10:43 PM
Although the Elf-warrior, Marky Lazer, is Sam, not Legolas. ;)

Yours again, Da Skorpion. (It seems this thread is glowing orange. :D )

Da Skorpion
03-26-2005, 03:29 AM
Gil-Galad: That's true but Tolkien never named the witch king and the other seven, instead they come from a series of rpg and tcg produced by Iron Crown Enterprises.

Big and strong,
joined in a battle of five headlong.
Black pelt everywhere,
but of men he is an heir.
Large gold buzzers around,
more yellow gold food than a bear can count.

Marky Lazer
03-26-2005, 04:08 AM
This got to be Beorn, if not I'll eat my shoes. And yours too!

Da Skorpion
03-26-2005, 04:10 AM
Correct. Twas an easy one:)

The thread be yours.

Marky Lazer
03-26-2005, 04:14 AM
Thanx Skorpio!

Wicked hobbit, steals from me
Tricksy hobbit, makes me angry
False hobbit, a thief I see

Who is it about and who is saying it?
And please explain... It's not as easy as you'd expect, BTW.

Gil-Galad
03-26-2005, 10:05 AM
Wicked hobbit, steals from me
-Gollum, talking about Bagginesss
Tricksy hobbit, makes me angry
-don't forget riddles in the downs, bilbo tricked gollum
False hobbit, a thief I see
-claims bilbo stole his b-day gift from him...

Da Skorpion
03-27-2005, 06:57 AM
Marky told me that it wasn't correct (he's here atm), and I do not have a clue either.

Marky Lazer
03-30-2005, 03:39 AM
Time for a hint?

Evisse the Blue
03-30-2005, 07:43 AM
Wicked hobbit, steals from me
Tricksy hobbit, makes me angry
False hobbit, a thief I see

Bert the Troll?
Bilbo tried to steal from him to prove his abilities. Then he tried to trick him into thinking there was no one else around. And obviously made him angry. :p

If that's not correct, a hint would be most welcome I think. :)

Marky Lazer
03-30-2005, 07:51 AM
Nice try, but not correct.

A hint then... It is about Frodo. Now, I only need to know who is saying it.

And it's NOT Gollum.

paavo
03-30-2005, 09:55 AM
What about farmer maggot whose mushrooms Frodo stole in his younger days.

Marky Lazer
03-30-2005, 11:35 AM
That is the correct answer! Thread is paavo's!

paavo
04-01-2005, 03:07 PM
Don't expect anything grand since I am definately not a poet. :)

A lot have I seen
Long here I've been
Found my home near the half-grown
a good thing for the life of our own

(now that really sucks. I just wrote a poem before this one so I had no inspiration left. yes yes, excuses...)

Nilpaurion Felagund
04-01-2005, 07:56 PM
Gandalf, who found himself "at home" in the Shire, Land of the Halflings?

paavo
04-02-2005, 04:05 AM
...But no. :p

Gil-Galad
04-02-2005, 08:05 AM
me thinks Tom Bombadil... who did live near Buckland

paavo
04-02-2005, 08:37 AM
You thinks right. :)

Gil-Galad
04-02-2005, 04:02 PM
Charged and fell, Weak but faithful, forgotton yet remembered.

Marky Lazer
04-05-2005, 01:05 PM
From the second line, I'd say Boromir...

Marky Lazer
04-13-2005, 05:28 AM
Gil-Galad!?

Gil-Galad
04-13-2005, 07:14 AM
Nope, before Boromir...

Nilpaurion Felagund
04-13-2005, 07:22 AM
Eärnil?

Gil-Galad
04-13-2005, 08:31 AM
nope

i wouldn't mind reasons too...

Marky Lazer
04-22-2005, 07:25 AM
bump?

Gil-Galad
04-22-2005, 08:43 AM
Hint: it was during the Last Alliance

Este of Lorien
04-22-2005, 12:40 PM
Isildur?

Gil-Galad
04-22-2005, 03:26 PM
nope and please people reasons!!!!!

Amrod the Hunter
04-24-2005, 10:27 AM
King of the dead (i mean the damned)?

Gil-Galad
04-24-2005, 08:38 PM
nope...Hint: its an elf!!!

Amrod the Hunter
04-25-2005, 06:16 AM
Well, only important elves during the Last Alliance were ELrond and Gil-Galad.Someone said Gil-Galad,so I'll say Elrond

Gil-Galad
04-25-2005, 07:01 AM
again reasons!!! please people...if i don't get a reason i won't accept the anwser...

(its not elrond by the way)

Marky Lazer
04-27-2005, 03:59 AM
Oropher then, he was slain during the War of the Last Alliance.
He's an Elf.
Remembered through his son Thranduil who survived the battle and returned to Mirkwood.
Faithful, because of his picking the side of good?

Gil-Galad
04-27-2005, 07:11 AM
Oropher it was!

Charged and fell - charged the Black Gate and was slain
Weak but faithful - Orophers elves had no armour and charged head on, but were true to sticking with the Last Alliance
forgotton yet remembered - remembered indeed by Thranduil, even though no spken much of, hes still there

your turn!

Marky Lazer
04-27-2005, 02:25 PM
Thanx...

Some think I'm a bird
Some think I'll land gently in the dirt
Some think I'm a stone
But what I can no one really knows

Gil-Galad
04-27-2005, 06:14 PM
no wait Gandalf!

Marky Lazer
04-28-2005, 04:06 AM
It is incorrect, and you were the one asking for reasons, weren't you?

Gil-Galad
04-28-2005, 08:53 AM
Some think I'm a bird - friends with the eagles
Some think I'll land gently in the dirt - the brown, a nature lover
Some think I'm a stone - Saruman calls him stupid, like a stone
But what I can no one really knows - did not really have a purpose, or no one can see his purpose

Radagast the Brown

Marky Lazer
04-29-2005, 12:58 AM
Good try, but not what I was looking for.

Evisse the Blue
05-03-2005, 06:18 AM
A hint maybe?

Marky Lazer
05-03-2005, 12:25 PM
If I do, I give it away probably... but because you asked that friendly...

Hint: an easy little question, but the more we examine it the harder it gets to answer it.

Evisse the Blue
05-04-2005, 09:49 AM
Hmmm...The Elessar?

Marky Lazer
05-05-2005, 07:27 AM
No...

bilbo_baggins
05-05-2005, 07:41 AM
A dragon? A bird, yet not one, not a stone, yet not one?

Marky Lazer
05-05-2005, 02:40 PM
I'm affraid it's not a dragon.

I'll try to come up with a good hint soon.

Marky Lazer
05-08-2005, 12:09 PM
A hint then, maybe a bit obscure, but you have to do with it.

I 583

Gurthang
05-08-2005, 05:40 PM
A Balrog because some think it can fly, some think it can't, and no one really knows for sure.

Marky Lazer
05-09-2005, 03:42 AM
That is the right answer! Gurthang's thread!

Marky Lazer
05-15-2005, 01:08 PM
Well, anyone then?

fillynicole
05-15-2005, 04:11 PM
We live in the Mountains, dark and damp,
Once we caught dwarves, they'd set up camp,
That night on the doorstep, we walked up the ramp,
And took the travelers out for a stamp and tramp.

Then a bright light, filled us with dread,
the dangerous flash, that made us like lead,
but we kept the dwarves, to the King we led,
when the Beater came out, and stoke him down dead!

We still live in Mountains, dark and deep,
we keep all travelers from their sleep,
along the shadows, swiftly we creep,
after revenge, the promise we keep.

Gil-Galad
05-15-2005, 06:04 PM
seems to be most obvious Goblins of Moria...

fillynicole
05-16-2005, 05:11 AM
Right! Gil-galad's thread!

Gil-Galad
05-16-2005, 07:10 AM
right...let me see here...

Founding of First, maintained of Second, both co-mingled yet hard to see unless First, commanded by a Greater Second and a Lesser Second after the war...

Marky Lazer
06-20-2005, 05:49 AM
Time for some hints, methinks.

Gil-Galad
06-20-2005, 11:06 AM
it was during the WOTR

Arestevana
06-22-2005, 11:46 AM
Minas Ithil?

Founding of First
At the start it was first in importance of the towers, as the fortress-city of Isildur.
maintained of Second
It was taken by Sauron and though retaken in the early Third Age, was thereafter second to Minas Anor.
Both co-mingled yet hard to see unless First
Minas Ithil was captured again by Sauron's forces, and both it and Minas Anor were renamed. The Palantir of Minas Anor was controlled by the Ithil-stone, making it difficult to "see" through the stone.
Or perhaps that once the First (Ithil) became the Second (Morgul), moonlight no longer lit the tower at night, and that pallid witch-light that replaced it was not enough to see by?
commanded by a Greater Second and a Lesser Second after the war
Minas Ithil (Morgul) was commanded by The Witch King, Sauron's second-in-command, before the War of the Ring, and afterward by Faramir, who as the heir of the steward and Prince of Ithilien could logically be considered Aragorn's second. The Witch King is greater than Faramir, as seen when the latter succumbed to the Black Breath.

A shot in the dark...or in that weird Morgul light.

Gil-Galad
06-22-2005, 11:52 AM
nope...close with Faramir though...it is a place

Arestevana
06-22-2005, 12:19 PM
Emyn Arnen, then?

Founding of the first Ithilien Principate, perhaps? Maintaining...the stewardship?
Commanded by Faramir (and Beregond, captain of the White Company)
Or by Faramir and Eowyn, each a second child...

Gil-Galad
06-22-2005, 12:30 PM
your close with Faramir and Eowyn

Arestevana
06-22-2005, 02:06 PM
Well, that puts one in mind of the Houses of Healing...

Eowyn's stay was founded by the orders of the Master Healer, when she wished to leave, but was later maintained by her own will, though she was pronounced well.
Eowyn and Faramir were together often during the latter part of their stay in the Houses of Healing, but could not have visitors without the approval of the Master Healer.

...but that would make the Greater and Lesser Seconds the voices in Eowyn's head... Alack, my reasoning appears to be faulty.
Unless of course, you refer to her two mindsets: childish infatuation with Aragorn giving way to love for Faramir?

Gil-Galad
06-22-2005, 03:13 PM
*sigh* its a city...

Kath
06-22-2005, 04:08 PM
Ok there is some logic behind this but it is pretty screwed up so I might ramble a bit.

Last bit first is that I think Greater Second refers to Faramir because he is second in line to being Steward and Lesser Second is Eowyn because she is technically second in line but is from Rohan which is less important than Gondor.

Then keeping in with that theme First should be Boromir and second Faramir.

I am totally stumped on the co-mingled bit.

Actually this is really hard! I'm going to say Osgiliath on the guess that Faramir and Eowyn were left in charge after the war and that Boromir first freed it from the orc invasion and then it was left to Faramir to maintain it.

He fell ere Gorthaur's realm did fall
The sign he brought was clear to all
Though hidden long it did remain
A sign of hope for men of Sauron's bane.

Who was it?

Marky Lazer
07-12-2005, 04:40 AM
He fell ere Gorthaur's realm did fall
The sign he brought was clear to all
Though hidden long it did remain
A sign of hope for men of Sauron's bane.

Who was it?

Gorthaur -> Sauron, banished 25 March III 3019. At this same time Gandalf, Aragorn, Éomer, Imrahil and the other lords of the allied force rode against the gates of Mordor, but I don't know anyone who fell there :S

I hope I helped someone else with my thinking out loud...

the guy who be short
07-12-2005, 05:47 AM
Gorthaur -> Sauron, banished 25 March III 3019.Correct.

Ere means before, remember. It might be easier to think about what the "sign he bore" was first.

Kath
07-12-2005, 07:17 AM
The only person I can think of right now is Aragorn. He had the green stone on his forehead or the banner for 'signs he bore'. He was long hidden as were these two signs but when revealed they brought hope to men. But he did not fall before Sauron so . . . ?

the guy who be short
07-12-2005, 07:40 AM
You're on the right track with the signs, but it's not Aragorn.

fillynicole
07-16-2005, 12:13 AM
He fell ere Gorthaur's realm did fall---he died at Amon Hen
The sign he brought was clear to all---his horn
Though hidden long it did remain---gondor was long a, well, pretty sad place
A sign of hope for men of Sauron's bane---"my lord, my brother, my king"

Who was it?---Boromir!

the guy who be short
07-16-2005, 05:19 AM
Nope, sorry!

The only person I can think of right now is Aragorn. He had the green stone on his forehead or the banner for 'signs he bore'. He was long hidden as were these two signs but when revealed they brought hope to men. That's the closest anybody's got so far (pretty darn close, actually).

Kath
07-16-2005, 10:36 AM
Was it maybe the man who brought the signs from Galadriel/Arwen to Aragorn? The Dunedain man gave him the banner I know that much. Tell me if this is right and I'll go find his name. The books have to be around here somewhere  .

the guy who be short
07-16-2005, 10:46 AM
You've got it! (Get me his name or I won't give it to you :p).

Kath

Bully. Ok it was . . . Halbarad! I knew it began with H!

the guy who be short
07-18-2005, 10:05 AM
Vrai. He died at the Pellenor Fields, if anybody, you know, cares.

Over to Kath.

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-31-2005, 08:17 AM
Kath?

Kath
07-31-2005, 09:19 AM
Sorry I've been having trouble thinking of one. Next time I guess I'll make sure I have one to hand! You can take it Nilp.

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-31-2005, 09:31 AM
No! I just poke people!

*sigh* But only since you asked.

I shall think of one up soon. About 24 hours from now.

hehe happens to the best of us! I've got one...

Thrice have we survived the end
Music engraved in our name.
In the second, we lived proudly
Light led the music
Now we are a relic of the past
Music heard no more.

Sorry it isn't that good. I'm not at my poetic peak :D

Gil-Galad
09-22-2005, 09:23 PM
sounds like the Elves of Lindon, or Greenelves

The Perky Ent
09-22-2005, 09:36 PM
You are indeed close, Gil-Galad (hehe especially with your name), but that is not the answer. Well...at least, the answer is part of the answer you gave :D

A far-fetched idea...Legolas Greenleaf? As leafs literally are sprung from the limbs. "Root and branch protect him". Hmmm...Well he is one of the woodelves.

Rimbaud
11-08-2005, 03:11 AM
None of the above, I'm afraid. It's a very literal 'name-related' clue.

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-08-2005, 05:02 AM
Thorin Oakenshield ?

Rimbaud
11-08-2005, 05:29 AM
That is correct, well done, and your turn!

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-08-2005, 04:18 PM
arrgh I kind of hoped I was wrong! I am no good at these kind of things, so don't expect anything of my "riddle"

Among faithful I was, yet shunned by all
Placed high over vale yet in the ground

Morsul the Dark
11-09-2005, 08:26 AM
Gandalf? his fellow isatari shunned him by turning on him or not helping he becAame gandalf the white in moria in the ground?

Gothmog
11-09-2005, 09:04 AM
Hearing "faithful" I'm thinking of Numenor an those faithful to the old traditions, not forsaking the friendship of the elves. "Shunned by all", hmmm... I'm going to guess for Tar-Miriel. She was supposed to be queen but was forced into marriage and from the throne. Maybe that is "shunned by all". It is also said that she tried to reach the top of Meneltarma when the island sank, which would explain why she's high over vale. In the ground meaning dead in this interpretation.

I don't think that's correct actually. But am I on to something? Is any part correct?

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-09-2005, 11:54 AM
No your all wrong Morsul !

Your answer is all wrong too Gothmog, but some of your resoning is right, try rethinking it. . .

(remember I am no good at this so it might be cryptic)

Gil-Galad
11-09-2005, 07:14 PM
Tar-Pantir? he was of the faithful and tried to bring back the Elvish ways

Rune Son of Bjarne

Nope.

Try to think a little unorthodoxly. . .

(Shall I give a hint when I return in 8 hours?)

Gothmog
11-10-2005, 07:21 AM
The last line sounds kind of like the barrowmounds. A barrow-wight? The barrow-wight? But I don't know about the first line. The kings in the barrows were descendents of the faithful of Numenor? And those who lived in Numenor and were faithful was shunned by all? All that anti-elvish propaganda going on...

No I really have no idea... Maybe a hint, if no-one else has any ideas

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-10-2005, 06:25 PM

Maybe it is to easy now, but thats just the way it has to be.

It was on the top of the Hill of Erech, yet in the ground; people were quite afraid of it, but it was brought there by Isildur from Numenor...

No.

Slightly modified riddle:

Another way to be taken

I can only apologize! To my defence I must tell you that I didn't see Morsuls last post about the lighthouse (well, it wasn't a lighthouse but probably looked something like one), but still this was mostly thanks to you I guessed it right. But I realized early that "ancient eye" must be a palantir. It was those "three" that confused me... However, here's a new chance for you Morsul. Quite easy I think, and not to well composed I'm afraid. But this is the only thing I could come up with right now:

One of brothers three
A king one can't see
The jewel his doom
Killed in his own room

Good luck! And I hope you can forgive me, Morsul :(

Allthough I cannot remember more than one brother, but I often forget these things.

Gothmog
11-23-2005, 01:46 PM
Correct! According to my sources he had two brothers; Olwe and Elmo. We all know of Olwe's fate and Elmo apparently dwelled in Doriath with his brother. I looked it up in the Encyklopedia of Arda to be sure I didn't lie now when you made me unsure :)

The White makes me think of either Gandalf or Saruman. According to the movies, couldn't one say that Saruman the White gave life to the Uruk Hai, definitely dark beings/things?

Not the best of guesses, but I have to think a bit more to come up with something better...

Iron is used for weapons aka death and for making tools.
