Did everybody miss Brinn's post?
Thanks for bringing that up. I was worried my post would get buried...

If you guys want me to jump ahead on the modding list, I'm perfectly willing to do so. I already have an idea in mind and my game would be a normal one: three wolves, three gifteds, and one cobbler. :)

A couple of things: I have no idea when Noggie's game will end, so I don't know when mine would begin. Right now I have lots of time on my hands, but that could change as I am currently hunting for a summer job (and having lots of trouble finding one, mind you). If I do have a job while the game is running, I'd probably need a co-mod as I probably wouldn't be able to make every deadline. Also, while I will be home the last weekend of June, I will be very busy...so depending on when I start the game, I can either avoid running it during that weekend or simply have a co-mod temporarily help me out. Anyways, I don't really need to worry about that until the current game is over, but I thought I'd just mention it now.

With that said, I shouldn't have any other problems...and anyways I would rather mod sooner than later...once August hits, my freetime will most likely be cut short(er).

What's a cobbler? None of the games I've played have had one.

If I'm not mistaken, it's Rikae's role in the current game.... ;)

It's basically an ordo who's on the side of the wolves.

Sally pretty much explained it already, but if you don't have anything better to do, you might want to take a look at the phantom's game (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=14479). ;)

That is now three whole years since I modded a game and I'm very interested in doing another one. Just add my name to the list. :)

And, to distinguish it somewhat, my game shall be in honour of the very first game -- that is: 3 wolves, one seer, and villagers. Simple.

Eventually I think I'd like to do a sequel to my All Star Crossed With Nowhere To Go (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=13362) game. It's been a loooong time since I modded (I was still living at home with my parents, as I recall  ) and I really enjoyed that game. I'd like to try for even more players, this time around, since that game has a potentially enormous nightly death toll. I had 18 players last game and it ended up being rather short. So waiting for a while after Nog's big game is ideal.

Anyway I'm expressing interest -- but only if I can get a large number of players down the line. Summer seems ideal for this as school is out.

For the record, I'd very much be interested in Di's game. But I think I'm abstaining from WW for the rest of the summer after Nog's game. It's too much of a hassle to drag my computer around during work. I'm up for anything (and I mean anything....) in the fall though!

Mac chopped off your head and made a stew out of you for Lhuna to eat.

I enjoyed modding that game a lot, but I'm convinced it needs a Dueling Wizards sized village to reach its full potential.

I would like to mod again sometime (but not before the end of July) and do the long intended Opera themed one - but otherwise not too complicated... I did approach a few bods aeons ago but if anyone is interested theoretically in auditioning do pm me with your vocal range and type and I can start to work on your aria.... this will place you under no contractual obligation to play. Non singing roles may be available.

The Grawlar are discarnate, and there is no documented case of one ever taking physical form. However, with their potency of spirit (one of them could take on all the Valar with their hands tied behind their back while blindfolded), they might be able to.

They are also so powerful that they have many discarnate hands and a discarnate head. Dear Eru, what chance have we?

Lots of material to make a great story out of. Thanks Nilp. :smokin:

One of these days I'll come out of hiding just to play (much like now) and the mod will hastily approach me, fidgeting a little with discomfort, and mutter hurriedly, "I'm so very sorry, but it seems that by popular vote you're simply not going to be allowed to manipulate others, act erratically, and otherwise make a nuisance of yourself by way of being energetically insane... In short, maybe you should come back at a later date. Good day, Miss of the Peredhil."

I need players, first. I have a few sign-ups from the Thread but I think because it's so old that only few could make it. I'd like to wait probably until next weekend to give the invitees a further chance to respond, and also because I don't want to start immediately after Durelin's game.

I'm not sure about a limit on number of players; we'll see what demand is like. So please, if you are keen on gaming, and interested in the ancient lore of the Wargs, sign up!

I think it will be quite a basic, old-fashioned game, but I hope the story amuses you all. ;)

I am, of course, especially delighted that SamwiseGamgee was able to make this too, for without him the Warg and Warg Rider Appreciation Thread would never have reached such heights of hitherto unimagined glory.

Nogrod has it right: I will not be creating a separate admin thread as I do not see the point. Just post here, or PM me, if you have announcements or questions to ask. Also, don't feel the need to explain why you won't be able to post during the hours of this- and that- o'clock, every single time. Most of us (or so I've heard) have lives outside the Barrow-Downs: right there is the explanation for players not posting! You can always post in the Game Thread if you won't be around for the rest of the day or whatever.

I tentatively suggest a deadline of, say, 10 or 11 PM my time, which is GMT+1. Morning is trickier as it will probably make me very late for work every day.

Does this work for you Kitanna? And everyone else, of course.

There are still three more people I especially want to add to the game, but I'm confident about merely one of them. The other two I haven't seen for quite a while (and it's most unlike them).

This sounds pretty good at least to me. By the way, one thing you should make clear too, Eomer, are we going to go by the computer time, or by the Downs time (which, for me, is now about 15 minutes late for me)?

Eomer of the Rohirrim
10-03-2008, 11:35 AM
Ah, good point Legate. My Downs clock is way off too. My times will be gauged from the real world and not the Barrow-Downs; but note that I am a relaxed moderator, and votes posted a couple of minutes after the deadline will count.

So keep in mind that the Barrow-Downs is cruel and lies to you, but don't panic if your post gets in a minute late.

Nogrod
10-03-2008, 05:32 PM
My times will be gauged from the real world and not the Barrow-Downs; but note that I am a relaxed moderator, and votes posted a couple of minutes after the deadline will count. That might be an interesting new trial: a game of WW with no actual deadline... So how do you make the difference? Two minutes late, vote okay; three minutes late, okay as well; four minutes, okay; five minutes... ten minutes, twenty minutes? Or maybe there will be the risk-taking mode involved here: leave your vote as late as possible (any minute after the deadline) but be prepared that just when you think you will vote the mod comes in and your vote is a no-vote? :)

That might be interesting indeed but for the sanity of all I'd say a certain clear deadline would be good. I mean innocents (having a strong feeling of one of the lynchees to be really more innocentish than the others), gifteds (possibly knowing someone is innocent or a wolf) and wolves (knowing who they wish to lynch) have their agenda of trying to help out with a certain outcome at the last minute. Therefore - even if some people will try to fake it - what people do at the last minutes is one of the most important things one can make deductions about the next Day.

If there is no clear deadline it will make the villagers the underdogs from the start as the insecurity of the deadline will add one more thing to baffle the villagers (was that one voting 8 minutes late really just late or was it intentional? - was s/he really trying to vote in earnest but just sadly was overrun with the mod's sudden and unforeseen deadline?).

It has been proved a working thing to use the BD-time indeed as the stamp of one's post clearly indicates the minute the post was made and no one can argue it otherwise ("I posted it in time according to my computer's clock!"). And everyone can pay heed to the exact BD time by checking it from the bottom of her/his page after refreshing the page.

But as I said, if you wish to make this the maddest game ever (which might be an idea worth trying one day indeed) then just say the deadline will be when it will be - and no one will know when - but otherwise you should actually state the exact time (and for that purpose the BD-time is the clearest as that's something we all share and can verify).

Eomer of the Rohirrim
10-04-2008, 04:37 AM
Interesting thoughts (as is usual from Nogrod!) Here's my thinking. I would not want someone, who ponders and stresses over their vote until the last minute, to lose the chance through something silly as momentarily losing their internet conection. Also, clocks are often a minute or two early or late. Try to make sure yours is reliable.

My plan is to be around at the deadline every night, and to warn players how much time is left. It is right to say that voting after the hour mark will be seen as suspicious: that's a risk some players might take.

Votes will not be retractable.

The game is part-invitational, yes. I gave the first chance to people who had contributed to the Warg and Warg Rider Appreciation Thread. Unfortunately, many of those historic Downers are rarely seen these days.

There's no obligation to post lots. If you want to post just once a day then that's fine by me. But it's more fun if people contribute more.

I think I mentioned before that the game would be simple. I've actually changed my mind and want to do something a little bit creative. But it's all very secretive. I'm still ironing out the details.

I'm very happy to hear that, Mith.

If anyone else wants to join you have until 7PM GMT +1 to do so. The game's deadline (i.e. beginning of Days and Nights) will be 11PM GMT +1. I'll likely send out roles a little earlier in the evening.

I'm going to start the game thread now.

Ah, good to see you making a public appearance Gaunt. :)

I should explain, especially to Sally, that Gaunt is one of my invitees and had already told me (face to face) that he would play. I just hadn't put him in the public list until he showed up here.

I sent out roles last night so I'm afraid you are too late, Sally.

In answer to Nogrod, yes I started Night 1 early. I didn't think there was a pressing need to wait. Don't worry: the deadline for the Days from now on will not randomly be two hours early. ;)

Yeah, it's my turn. I'm not sure what exactly my game is going to be, I wanted to do a "sequel" to my last game but that one needs a lot of players to work. Twenty at least. So whether I do that, or a simpler game, really depends on how many people want to play.

The original All Star Crossed... (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=13362) game, for reference.

Oh and Lommy, you did play in my previous game. It was two years ago. I see that now - and I now recall it. It was great game (except that morm killed me rather early ;)). You may replace "Says she who missed your previous game" with "Says she who forgot your previous game" if that helps at all. :D

If my maths works, the deadline would be either 9am or 1pm for us Finns, which means I prefer the later one, because otherwise I either have to wake up earlier just for the game, or then I have to vote about 10 hours before the deadline.

Aganzir
10-21-2008, 04:35 AM
Yes, I prefer the 5 am cst as well. Otherwise I would have little chance to be online at deadline.

However, are we starting before October 26th? The end of daylight saving time might cause some difficulties if the game is already running.

Also starting a separate admin thread might lure in some players. I don't know how many check this thread regularly.

Diamond18
10-21-2008, 08:20 AM
I'm actually leaning more towards 1 AM now, because 5 AM means getting up ridiculously early every day just because there are two days a week I actually have to be up that early for work. Of course that will mean I'll have to be up way too late on the nights before those forced early mornings. C'est la vie. I could have a nice, manageable deadline in the evening if it wasn't for the couple nights a week I have to work from 5 PM till midnight. I really have a terrible work schedule for modding Werewolf, but I'll make it work.

Perhaps the 27th is a good day to aim for starting the game. I'll go start an Admin thread.

Just putting this out there: I've had a pretty wicked idea for a theme game which has been met with delighted enthusiasm by the few people I've told about it. So I'd like to be put on the mod list and if a space opens up when already listed mods need a bit more time to organize things, I'd be able to jump in quickly. I doubt the game will run long, but as usual it will require players who are willing to have all of their opinions completely ignored.

Hullo everyone! I am very sorry I haven't been around. Things are looking better though(rl). I will try my best to keep the list up-to-date and maybe just maybe play in another game;):D

From what I could gather the list should look like this:

Gollum
Mith
Kit
Shast

(room for one more mod)

I won't be putting Lhuna's name on the list because that is way to far in advance and not really fair to everyone else. I will however, put her name on the list the closer it gets to April.

Ok some other "business" I have noticed that some have decided to have sign-ups and chitty chat about their games here. Having some talk about ones game in here is perfectly fine...afterall one has to lure people in, but getting in-depth about the game and sign-ups clogs this thread making it very difficult for me to find potential mods.

Mithalwen

Depends on the number of players . Most games have 24 hr day and night phases with a death in each so if it goes to the wire it would last for a couple of days fewer than ther are players. However the wolves may be found more quickly and special roles may lengthen or shorten the game - as will multiple lynches and modfire.

Okay. Naria asked me to update the list of the last games quite a few months ago actually but now I finally remembered it and had time to scroll through the old game-threads.

So here are the games of the last year (the older games-list can be found from page 98 of this same thread).

The dates are dates for the first post in the actual game thread (so not the exact day the game began) and should be read in the logical order of day.month.year.

Some memories coming through? :)

The six-months -line means that one is not allowed to mod another time within six months and looking at the "recently modded" -list Naria will decide the order of the future mods giving v.i.p. status for those who have not modded at all or only a long time ago... if I got the idea correctly.

Kitanna LVI - Panic at the Prancing Pony (to commence shortly)

Once Kit's game goes of the modding list and there's space, I'd actually like to mod. (For the listkeeper's information, I've modded twice, last in December 2007. :)) My spring (and summer) will be rather sort of interesting, though, so I might be willing to swap places with mods after (or before) me. :)

Looking at the pace the games have gone on the last year (and earlier) it might be something like mid/late April when it would be your turn Lommy - if you are placed as the next one on the list of mods now accounted for. Isn't that the best possible timimg for you?

Anyway your "modship" should precede mine as I have modded more games and more lately than you have.

And anyone who has not yet modded or has done so a long time ago should go before me.

Also, just as a teaser... anyone wishing to mod the Dueling Wizards III late spring / early summer, or something like that? :)

Well I have been thinking about modding too, but that has time: especially if somebody else expresses their wishes to do so. Most of all, depending on the pace of the games, which may vary a lot, I might anyway be forced to swap if I signed up for some place. But anyway, at least Lommy should by right be before me, and that means for now, I won't get to the list anyway.

I have plans for a rather unique Werewolf game. I would like to do it sometime after February, but before August. Nice big window there.

And it will be very fun. I promise.

Well, you don't need to write me down yet or anything, I just wanted to express I am interested in modding another game in the near future. I have a couple ideas in mind and would like to put them to use.

Also, I want to point out a post from long ago:

If Lhuna's still interested in modding at that time, then I think it'd be nice if we let her. :)

Did anyone PM/hear back from Valier? It's been a week since the last game ended and if she has made no indication of modding, then I think you should go ahead and put up your game thread, Sally. If Valier does turn up later and still wants to mod, she can always go next.

Also, it seems that our mod list has run empty. There have been several who expressed interest in modding soon, but there's no official list or order. Should we get one going?

Speaking of modding, while there's plenty of people interested, the official mod list is now empty (the last one was Sally).

So, the question is....who's modding next? If we're going by who requested first, then I think the next mod would be Nogrod...

We probably should get this sorted out before Sally's game ends so whoever does mod next has time to prepare.

Legate of Amon Lanc
03-25-2009, 09:54 AM
Back then, when there was some discussion, I know there was me and also Lommy who have expressed our feelings to mod (and we should go before Nogrod because he was modding a game far more recently than both of us). Also Lhuna said that she would like to mod in April - the question is, if she is still willing to do that or whether she is busy. However, there was another person and that was our well-known Mr. Phantom, and it seemed that he would like to mod before us. So, if he is still interested? (And I guess he is.)

And don't know, maybe there was somebody else, but I don't remember him.

Yep, but there's still the thing I was not aware of at the moment - that Lhuna wanted to mod, if I am not mistaken. If that is so and she still wants to, I'd suggest it will be fair if we all wait.

Yes, yes, see? I knew there were quite many people. So the list is, in fact, pretty busy. Let's see what can be done. Myself, I would prefer to run a game sometime either at the end of April or sometime during May. If wilwa says she can go as far as August, I guess she does not need to hurry to the list. I don't know about Lommy in particular, but I guess she'd also prefer some time before summer, but I can be mistaken. No idea about Nogrod. And the most important are, anyway, now those two - Lhuna and Valier. I suggest we wait for them to make contact, if they can. From there on, we can move to further arrangements.

Lhuna said she wanted to mod in April/May, so I'd doubt she'd be able to until the game after next, though that's just my guess. Valier said she wanted to be placed on the bottom of the list. So perhaps our list would look something like this?

Legate is the next in line and anyway I have no chances of modding a game in the last two-three weeks of May - and sadly I'm afraid I can't even participate a game then. Those weeks are just going to kill me RL.

But from the beginning of June I have all the time up to the beginning of August.

So if Legate wants to run his game after Lommy that would be fine. Then we could discuss it whether Wilwa (or Brinn or Mnemo) would prefer hosting a game or should I do it next after Legate.

It would be my turn then but I'm open to suggestions if your timetables have limitations. From the beginning of August I will be away from the 'Downs in general quite definitively for a month anyway so my next chance to mod would be on September. But even that would be no problem to me.

Modding is fun but if there are people who have not modded at all or have modded only once I'm ready to let you go first.

Alright, well here are two lists, perhaps they can be compiled somehow, to make it the fairest:

In order of when they asked (please do correct me if this is wrong)
Legate
Nogrod
Brinniel
Wilwa
Gwath
Mnemo
Lari
Eonwe

Those who never have (again, correct me if I'm wrong): Mnemo, Gwath, Lari, Eonwe
The rest who have modded (in order from longest time ago to most recent, and # of times modded)
Wilwa (back in 05ish/06ish, once)
Legate (03/08, twice)
Nogrod (05/08, thrice)
Brinniel (06/08, once)

So I don't exactly know what that makes. I know there's also available times to be considered. But there seems to be a consensus that Legate is next.

Wow, this is kinda complicated, hahaha.

I'm completely flexible as to when I would hold my game. I'm planning on doing a classic game (basic rules; narrationally driven) so I'd prefer to hold it after someone else has done something a bit more complicated.

Well, as for me... not that the coming time won't be without running my game in the middle of an end-of-semester rush :D but, I have done it once and I can do it again.... ;)

If some people who haven't modded yet desperately wanted to, though, I could let them... but then, this may be one chance for me to mod for some time to come... so perhaps I'd like to use it.

But I am still open to negotiations. The last word has not been said yet.

I can't talk on behalf of Legate but with me you can rest assured I'm ready to make a deal with anyone who has not modded a game or with those (well, you Wilwa) who has only modded a game a long time ago.

I'm in no hurry but would like to host a game in some nearish future (those limitations I talked about in my last post being rather sticky) meaning something like between now and the next Christmas... or anything. :)

Modding is fun.

Hmm, all right, now I would perhaps like to ask one question here... The thing is, it is possible that I may be really very busy by the time when I should mod my game, and so I am sort of becoming less and less sure of whether it's a good idea for me to mod right now.

My question would be, if there is anybody (wilwa? Nogrod? Brinn? Mnemo? Anybody?) who would be willing to mod now, instead of me. Would there be any volunteers?

If there are no objections I would like to. From July to mid August I'll be too busy with my summer course, so this would be perfect timing for me.

But anyone who asked before me is free to go first.

I'm good with Wilwa modding the next one (even if I have to skip that game myself due to end-of-semester madness).

During the summer I know some people are very hard to catch and others will have all the time in their hands. But we might discuss that Legate - which one of us goes for the next after that or do we pass our turn to someone who has not modded... like Mnemo.

I'm all ready to go, so if there are no objections I can have my admin thread up, for WW LXI: Grimm Tales (a little teaser ;) ), either later tonight or Saturday morning. Is that good with everyone? :) The actual game I'm hoping to have started late next week or early into the week after.

Wilwa, I think you may go on as no one has protested to your modding and my game's officially over. :)

(PS. I'm sad I can't play because of silly Uni entrance exams but I will probably be following the game at least a little!)

For sure - I officially delegate my post to you, and I think whoever might have wanted to object would have already done so.
