To clarify- as with my last one, the password is the theme. (Recall that the Nimrodel is a tributary of a tributary of the Anduin).
So, by popular demand, let's tackle #2.
6. NIMRODEL. Nimrod = hunter, plus the Spanish word el. Nimrodel is a woman (her) as well as a thing (a river), (it).
Hmmm ... although I'm not 100% sure about Dale, I'm sensing a connection with water. Nimrodel and Argonath have river connections, and Dale is on or near a lake, I think?
But then, Moria could work for 2 if it's a literal tumbling and a literal (dwarf) short chieftain (and Dale sort of could as well).
Ok so
A Short Chieftain Tumbled, here.
Nindalf
A short chieftain
Gandalf shortened to Dalf
Tumbled
Well plenty of soldiers fell in the Dead marshes which is part of Nindalf...
The comma is throwing me off but I feel here just completes the grammatical sentence? Also indicates the answer is a place.
Not Dale or Nindalf. The "short chieftain" is literal; "tumbling" is not. The comma is just to emphasize that the answer is a place (it's not grammatically required).

Could the third one be DEAGOL? He was killed untimely, if not due to mistaken identity, like Beleg, and whilst on a fishing trip on the ANDUIN, and the first part of his name is almost 'deal,' so it attempts a bargain.
Also, he's observant as he found the Ring? Although I think that was probably luck (and in the event very bad luck, for him).
Err ... can a LOG be an observation? (Trying to account for the letters).
Pervinca Took
06-23-2017, 06:35 AM
NAROG has NAR, but it's from the wrong age, so didn't coexist with the Anduin. Unless not all previous waterways were destroyed in the War of Wrath.
There is actually a river NORBOURN in the Shire, which has the first three letters of Nori ... but he wasn't really a chieftain, and I can't account for the remaining letters.
Nerwen
06-23-2017, 08:21 AM
Yes, it is DEAGOL. You are right about "bargain"; "attempt" however, refers to the word "go", made from the remaining letters. For the other part- Deagol is "observant" because he found the Ring and also because he is described as "sharper-eyed" (than Deagol). He is in the "Beleg club" due to having been killed by a close friend.
For N- no, it is not Narog or Norbourn. The Shire is extremely relevant however (though the answer is not in the Shire).
ARGONATH: Fabled vessel and preposition mingle, with monumental results.
N A short chieftain tumbled, here.
DEAGOL: Stir up to disclose observant member of Beleg club.
U Await continental upheaval. May not be over your head.
I Being sensational- disturb to reveal him.
NIMRODEL: Hunter adds a touch of Spain to find her- and it.

If it's crucially connected with the Shire but not in it, how about NENUIAL? (Lake Evendim). I don't think the short chieftain can be a dwarf, though .... The first three letters of leader are in there, but ....
It's also 'lieutenant' minus three letters, but for 'short' I'd expect to lop the letters off the beginning or the end.
Nerwen
06-23-2017, 08:58 AM
No, it's not a dwarf. There are other undersized people in Middle-earth...
As for the actual answer- remember, the theme/password is ANDUIN. All the answers have some connection to that.
Pervinca Took

The NAITH ('Thain' tumbled). It's between the Anduin and the Celebrant.
I was put off looking for hobbits because I thought the chieftain element started with N. Nob is the only hobbit whose name starts with an N (I know this from when I put together my All Tooks password).
...
INGWE is almost an anagram of 'being.' (And weeing). :D

1. A cheesey town
2.Ancient, volition and loud exclamation, this hombre sings.
3. Larvae to some, yet fond of Fungus and dogs
4. Saloon, a shortened arm, and master, yet forgetful.
5. Sounds presumptuous, or something like it, for this scruff man to ask reward.
6. Father with double walkers. Gossiped with pork product.
7. Absurdly simple, these cause long delays.
8. A underhanded throw to a long fish would be more appealing than she is.

2. Old Man Willow

Although short-cuts make long delays, it's RIDDLES that Gandalf calls absurdly simple, and they cause delays more than once?
8. A guess at LOBELIA, because 'lob' is throw and there is the sound of 'eel,' but the whole answer is more 'long' than that?
Kind of messes up my idea of Bamfurlong for the password, though. ;)

Is 7 short cuts, then, because short cuts are supposed to be a simpler way of getting somewhere? (And Frodo and company's short-cut is absurd/disastrous).

Yes, this password has a theme, and the answer is MAIAR.
Re = short for regarding: hence ILMARE.
Slight mis-spelling of MELIAN ;)
You got the two correct citrus fruits, and the correct end result, but it was two separate clues leading to the same answer.
1. LIME confused = MELI, plus AN, a word Shakespeare often used to mean 'if.' Example:
'Get up, get up, an you be a man!' (The Nurse in 'Romeo and Juliet').
2. LEMON confused gives MELON. Exchange the Westron exclamation O for the elvish one, AI (as in 'Ai! Ai! A Balrog!'), but reflect it (put it in backwards). Hence: MELIAN.

Not Olo (is there an Olo?), but the right method and thinking. It's 'a great laugh' in a slightly different sense.
'Gone without direction.' Took 'E' (east) from 'gone' to get 'nog,' because eggs are used to make the sweet drink 'eggnog' (I don't remember ent-draught being sweet, but maybe it does say so, or sweet here means good to drink?) The answers all seemed to be edible, and you had implied all 3 of my answers were close, so I thought it must be eggs, which are eaten in Middle-earth (Bilbo dreams of bacon and eggs). Not as significant in the stories as rabbits, apples or taters, but I thought maybe it was just hard to find a comestible starting with E. (I guess kingsfoil might be drunk as an 'infusion for headaches,' but I thought the afflicted person probably bathed the affected part of the head with it).
P.S. Have copied Morsul's way of bolding whole answer, because it looks good.
P.P.S. Well done both!

Yes indeed! At one point in the story it says that Oin and Gloin have lost their tinder-boxes, (so incandescence clues for Gloin are doubly apt, although I didn't realise it at the time ;)) and then, in brackets, that 'Dwarves have never taken to matches even yet.' There are at least two other references to matches in Middle-earth ... Merry says just before the Scouring that the Shirefolk only need a match, and their rebellion will flare up (metaphorical), and Bilbo looks for his matches under the Misty Mountains and there aren't any (literal).
Doesn't seem to be a previous post, Mith (have checked again). But it doesn't matter now. :)

" 'Come, come!' said Gandalf. 'We are all friends here. Or should be; for the laughter of Mordor will be our only reward, if we quarrel.' "
(When they have to hand over their weapons at Theoden's halls and Aragorn does not want to hand over Anduril). (In fact, he has a bit of a tantrum about it, is told he can hand it over or fight everyone in the hall alone, and Gimli says 'Not alone,' or something very similar).

A scabbard... and I've been thinking it might refer to the line about Eärendil's scabbard being "of chalcedony", but I couldn't make the rest of the clue until it occurred to me that it could be "halcyon" + "dec". Is that it?

(Quite what use a quartz scabbard would be to the average soldier I don't know, but it's Earendil's ... all his accessories are shiny and precious and more mythical than practical. And maybe Bilbo imagines half of the precious/semi-precious substances for the poem). (And I really wanted an excuse to have the word chalcedony in a password).

Well-
#2 is literal- two of [a word equivalent to "me"] and [a word equivalent to "nothing"].
#5. You're looking for a word for a type of amphibian... which also happens to mean something else in Middle-earth.
#6. The answer- which I'm afraid is pretty obscure- is an anagram of the names of two birds, and is reversed. However, I acknowledge that's not all that helpful, as after all there are a lot of bird species. One is also a synonym for a type of machine, the other means "to flinch". An important part of the clue is the word "jovial".
For #7, I suggest you look at the first page of The Lord of the Rings: Appendix E: Writing and Spelling:Proununciation of Words and Name:Consonants. (The clue part is a sort of unkind way one might describe a vet- rather silly!)

It isn't. Hence the sounds like.
But that's the last one! Over to Pervinca.

I'll post the next one soon.

1. Elven-rope is as soft as this.
2. Nori runs back! It’s well hard.
3. Not acid, and mingles without note. Initially titanium, and six of these helped produce this seventh one.
4. Here without hesitation, reclined; it binds.
5. Gone to the toilet in slang? Must have been in a hurry, as got mixed up, ran backwards and overshot! Blame the Dark Elf for the result.
6. One emaciated top mingles for this substance.
7. Napoleon’s isle and royal seat? Loses note in confusion for this.
Galadriel55

Lebethron for the last one, as Elba+throne-A.
Iron for 2?
Making the password MITHRIL?

IRON: Nori runs back! It’s well hard.
T: Not acid, and mingles without note. Initially titanium, and six of these helped produce this seventh one.
H: Here without hesitation, reclined; it binds.

I: One emaciated top mingles for this substance.
LEBETHRON: Napoleon’s isle and royal seat? Loses note in confusion for this.

I've tried a little fiddling for the other clues, but no luck so far. But for the sake of discussion, here are a few thoughts.
H:
"Here without hesitation" I took to mean without the "er". So HE, unless it's a synonym. Hither gives HITH. Reclined - lie? Lay? Rest? I can't combine any of these into meaningful words, forget something that binds (rope? chain? oath?)
Pervinca Took
09-08-2017, 02:29 PM
You are very, very close.
HITH is indeed the first four letters.
'Lay' is almost right. You just need the past participle instead of the simple past.
Galadriel55
09-08-2017, 06:31 PM
Huh, wow, I was slow on that one.
HITHLAIN - the stuff the Elven ropes were made from.
Also, on the off-chance, METEOR for -R?

The -R clue does indeed run backwards, but it also overshoots by one letter. So R is the last-but-one letter of the answer, which you then put in backwards to fit into the password.

1 is milk, as Sam tells Frodo
6 is Ithildin
I have a feeling that the parsing for the others is going to be tortuous.

The other two shouldn't be *too* hard. Look at the theme that has emerged, then try working backwards to justify the answers.
(For Galadriel and anyone else, Ithildin = I + thin + lid).

You're close ... but haven't you noticed that the theme of this password is materials rather than objects? ;)
That particular clue has a sensible answer, but quite a silly way of getting the letters ... in a way, a bit like Nerwen's esteemed 'mutt healer.' :)

Galvorn = Gorn lav. ;) (Cockney slang, incorporating a bit of ellipsis).
(I couldn't resist the further lavatorial semantic opportunities that this and the 'overshooting' element presented, I'm afraid). :D
(I mean, even elves must have to go to the toilet ....)

Now struggling with the last one. Beginning to wonder if Drawven rings were made of titaneas or something.
By the way, I have to say that's a brilliant and very dedicated password. Much as it's curious to solve, cause you have to go back to the text for some clues and work both backwards and forwards, it must have taken a lot of effort to get words from such a limited theme to line up. Hats off!
Pervinca Took

That's kind of you to say, but you yourself upped the bar by making (I think) the first themed password and working so hard to find answers to fit that theme. It has made constructing passwords more fun and challenging, as well as solving them, so thank you for that.
1. You already have most of the Titanium part of the clue, with the initial T.
2. Now, what kind of substance is Titanium?
3. Do a little googling for Middle-earth substances, and keep in mind the earlier history of Middle-earth.

I believe answer is "Tilkal", referencing "The Book of Lost Tales". Ti + alkali - A (note)?

ITHILDIN: One emaciated top mingles for this substance.
LEBETHRON: Napoleon’s isle and royal seat? Loses note in confusion.
Yes, Aule took 6 metals and from them made a seventh, TILKAL, harder than all the rest, and from it forged Angainor.
Just the T (the initial of Titanium), plus alkali minus A.
I had to include 2 substances also around in our own age to make a password, though. ;) I did think of adding a reference to Dain Ironfoot to make the Iron one more Middle-earthish, but there was iron in Middle-earth and there was a mention of Nori. Milk already is because it's part of Sam's elven-rope simile.
Well done both, and over to Galadriel!

Tried to follow up with as cool a theme as yours, but had to go broader. I got a couple themes to work, but half of the words were reversed, so I went with the easier theme but well-fitting words. Your password is a hard act to follow. ;)
1. Sounds like drink precedes father of this man.
2. We run amok and laugh.
3. Blind set up bolted and tangled.
4. Small offspring tosses second person into garbage basket.
5. Negative German, Asian last name. So confused and sad.
Happy riddling!
EDIT: holy bananas! I missed my 7000th post by 50 posts! I'm getting worse at this with every thousand. But I still like to celebrate my chattiness. Maybe eventually the quantity will overrule the quality? :Merisu:

I missed my 1,000th too. ;)
Is 5 Nienor, because of 'nein' and its meaning? (Mourning). Not sure about the Asian last name, though.
I suppose Niniel (maid of tears) is closer to the' sadness' element ... maybe 'el' fits better for the Asian element?
P.S. And URWEN for 2? And maybe HURIN for the password?
Galadriel55
09-12-2017, 05:22 AM
Yes to Urwen and Niniel (name is Li). No to Hurin.

And maybe IBUN for number 4? (Bin + U, and he's a dwarf).

Thurin.
And a quick search tells me that this was Finduilas's name for Turin.
3. R Blind set up bolted and tangled.
Apparently REMBINA means 'entangled' in Quenya?
The only synonym I can think of for blind is 'screen,' and I got nowhere with that. Also, I can't think of any blind characters in Tolkien's works. Have tried mingling 'ran' and 'locked' for 'bolted' with screen and couldn't come up with anything. So I thought I might try the 'tangled' part as the straight clue.
(I expect I am wrong).
... REMBINA has RAN in it, but I can't account for the rest of the elements.

There is a minor blind character related to Turin's storyline, in Dor-Lommin. And you are correct with RAN.
