Then how do you explain this group not being on TG? Everything there is to know is on there, so why isn't it?
Okay, that is funny. :) But you do realise the category you linked doesn't even include 'Gondolindrim', which unquestionably meets my description? (Not the answer, of course.)
Furthermore, I only have core books (e.g. LOTR, Hobbit, Silm, CoH) and FoG. Things like Lay of Leithian and all that are not in my possession, so if you expect me to get the clues from anything I don't own, then know that it won't happen.
I mean, you're doing okay so far? If you work out the theme there's really only one possibility.

Inb4 it's some obscure group of people found in Weird Bits, in which case the answer is Northern Orcs, who were particularly fickle and spent most of the time staring at Aurora Borealis, and the rest of the time inviting unsuspecting people for dinner, then chucking them into Northern Sea of Nurn, waiting until they froze solid, and then eat them like ice-cream. I'd give anything for ice-cream...

MORGOTH - Monstrous craven lord (per Fingolfin)
ORODRETH - A dullard slow (per Curufin)
CELEGORM & CURUFIN - Faithless lords untrue (per the people of Nargothrond)

Snort. Charming though the Northern Orcs are, it's not them.
Look at the answers so far and consider what links them. I will say that Fingolfin's comment on Morgoth is presented in flashback.

Okay; is it either CELEBRINDAL or CELEBRIMBOR? Tolkien at least considered silver to be a form of white (hence the White Trees are images of the Silver Tree), and both feet and fists are extremities.
Also they're both associated with Gondolin, which is always a decent guess with you around. :D

Hmm. The House of the Wing is one of the Great Houses of Gondolin, bearing a white wing as their symbol, so... #6 (HOUSE OF THE) TREE?
And oh, wait: there's another double drowning, when Ecthelion went balrog-swimming. So either ECTHELION or FOUNTAIN for #3?
The Houses of Gondolin are really interesting, from a political speculation viewpoint. They were clearly founded after the city, since there's nothing like them anywhere else in Arda. How many were there originally? The Pillar and Tower were clearly once a single House - how did they get so large? The Wing is an obvious political fiction, and was the Mole even officially approved? It kind of feels like Maeglin took up with the miners (who as low-class workers probably weren't in a House at all) and started using the name.
So were they all craft-houses originally? The Swallow still bear an arrowhead, and the Harp a... well, harp (so was Salgant actually just a bard whose House had turned themselves into warriors in his despite?). The Hammer was obviously the smiths, who later became the Hammer of Wrath. Pillar-Tower could be the gate-guards? But this leads us to the idea of the Tree as foresters, the Fountain as engineers, and the Heavenly Arch as... well, rich cloud-watchers, which pretty much checks out.
Anyway, that's all off-topic. :)

Maybe the theme is seven. There are seven gates of Gondolin, among which are the gate of GOLD and the gate of WOOD*. There are seven gems made of ADAMANT in the crown of Gondor. There are seven Dwarven ring-bearers and seven forefathers, and dwarves used AXES (there are also seven Balrogs - according to Tolkien - who also used axes).
(*Take a guess on who built them.)

:D:D
GOLD - No, I don't mean Alternate Universe
AXES - Weapons on which graphs turn (these ones are red)
3. T - Stonework that pulls you from the mud
EAGLE - Number one deus ex machina (now featuring heavy metal)
WOOD - I would tell you the answer, but -- just a second.
ADAMANT - Air is to corundum as water is to...? (Now, about that crown.)
YEW - You! Yes, you! Fire! (& look up into the light)
(Comments in parenthesis relate solely to the theme; they are not useful for the password letter.)

It's not drag, and there's no river in the clue. Also the answer starts with T. :)
The mud is not significant, except as a thing you might be pulled from.

Then I dunno.
So work through some verbs for pulling, and consider some nouns that could be related to them. For example, 'drag' might make you think 'dragon', but dragons are not stonework.
My mention of rivers was a reference to river clues in Password, and how they're often presented.

Mostly Turgon, I believe, though Maeglin added the last one after the Nirnaeth. The part where he used it to declare that the Crown of the Hidden Kingdom was more important than the Powers or the Two Trees might, in retrospect, have been something of a hint. :)

1. - I add underclothing, and there are four.
2. - The most powerful will shortly share the way to unlock.
3. - He, or won't he?
4. - A dwarven house has lost its supports (architecture) and gained support (attire), and married a remarkable woman.
5. - The second half of the Millennium follows a ruddy fruit in full.
6. - #87, do (it) backwards, #8 - a chemist's hero.
7. - Not old, not drunk - just the first deer.
8. - Run back, flinger of treasure! Your son is more famous than you.
9. - Most of a frond overshadows partial shadows in a mother's domain.

3. Sounds like repetition is in order. Maybe a name structurally akin to, say, Fingolfin, or Ghan-buri-ghan. But don't have one to fit the clue in a way that makes sense.
7. There was Aldor the Old and his brother Baldor the (occasionally) drunk. Enc of Arda tells me they had a third brother, Eofor. No odea how that could be related to deer though.
8. Okay, maybe a somewhat reasoned amswer. NIRUH? He did fling the Nauglamir at Thingol, and Turin does make more of a name for himself. The other flingers I came up with so far didn't have sons.

It's been a few days, so how about a couple of hints?
#4 is probably the easiest; 'dwarven house' means 'Dwarven House', not settlement. There's only seven, and only one has a support in it.
#10 should be fairly simple too - who is Odo? 'Welshman discovering America' is a perfectly straight clue; I think there's only one name that fits there.
#11 is... wrong. Remove 'and the first after the old'.
To make up for that:
#3 should start with an ellipsis.
#1 just needs a couple of synonyms; 'and there are four' is a straight clue.

There's a sonnet full of the word will / name Will - or are there two? - in which Shakespeare puns on his name the whole way through.

I looked into APPLEdore, but I think the Appledores are only in Bree. No E at second letter position, either.
MERIADOC has the E in the right place, but I have no elements to offer for such an answer.
Is 1977 anything to do with the publication of Thr Silmarillion (or was that 1978?)
...
I do like the FRODO answer, because not only did Frodo Gardner become the head of the family of that name (and Mayor? Not sure), but Frodo Baggins was Deputy Mayor for a little while.

Well, the apple is a pippin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox%27s_Orange_Pippin), which Tolkien explicitly stated (http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Pippin#Names_and_Titles), hence 'in full', but yes!
ISUMBRAS - I add underclothing, and there are four.
SHARKEY - The most powerful will shortly share the way to unlock.
WILL - He, or won't he?
BROADBELT - A dwarven house has lost its supports (architecture) and gained support (attire), and married a remarkable woman.
PEREGRIN - The second half of the Millennium follows a ruddy fruit in full.
FRODO - #87, do (it) backwards, #8 - a chemist's hero.
BUCCA - Not old, not drunk - just the first deer.
DLOGRETTACS - Run back, flinger of treasure! Your son is more famous than you.
FERUMBRAS - Most of a frond overshadows partial shadows in a mother's domain.
PROUDNECK - Higher than Odo is a Welshman discovering America.
ISENGRIM - Too grim to guard, a digger.
Theme: Masters, Thains, Mayors, and usurpers of the Shire
I really wanted to do something with just mayors (with Pott, Will, Lotho, Frodo, Sam, and Tom all named as holding the title, it should be possible) but couldn't find a password. As the second-letter thing shows, I could barely find one with this wider set!

A pity the password had no A. You could have included the new title that FASTRED took at Undertowers.
Or used it by running it backwards.

Frodos Dreme was just to put poetry into the clue. ;) You're looking for something that Bilbo dreams of.

Yes, he *does* see them. I am referring to the variety of them that he *doesn't* see.
Tolkien being Tolkien, does he describe them as being like Red Admirals or Purple Emperors? [Checks] It's the latter. 'Take the second' could indicate using the second letter (U), or could mean we only need 'Emperor'.
(Which would obviously be a reference to Ar-Pharazon, with the theme 'things found underneath mountains'. :D :D :D)
As for Bilboes Dreme - well, FOOD springs to mind after he got Bombur'd by Thranduil. I think he also dreamt of mountains; you say 'it', so maybe the LONELY MOUNTAIN.
6: 'Twin city' in Middle-earth would probably mean Minas Ithil & Anor, but my immediate assumption was Ankh-Morpork. ^_~ 'No rugs back' could mean there's a 'guron' in the answer, but that doesn't sound terribly Tolkien.

An ocean! - Fingolfin’s squeeze could mean literally 'the name of a sea, minus Fingolfin's wife'. 'MEDITERRANEAN' contains every letter in 'ANAIRE', and leaves 'MEDTERN', which is enough letters to anagram something. One vowel would need changing (maybe to 'o' from November, or maybe the vowel next to the N, or maybe you also need to add an N), and I guess we'd need to pluralise it...?
Or it could be LEAVES, based solely on the colour. :D

5. MITH + RID + NAR = MITHRANDIR (I have to echo you - blue?)
All that the unsuspecting Bilbo saw that morning was an old man with a staff. He had a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, a silver scarf over which his long white beard hung down below his waist, and immense black boots.
4 makes me think of Narsil, but can't fit it to the clue.
Not even close.

6. - Mother, you are a-- no, cut that down, wounded one.
IRIME - I rhyme! Or is that frost? Hang out in Hithlum and you'll see (probably).
8. - A road, a short gambler's hint, and a misspelled Hobbit for the second of three (FOUR!).
9. - If you don't know Latin, fear God and guard the ford.
10. - Make lots of money! Say "He know(s) you," and ride to the city.

o.o I am very pleased that I have no idea what you're talking about.
I was thinking about the three (FOUR!) Elf/Mortal couples. But the second - Idril and Tuor - are simply too short to contain that clue. Celebrindal is long enough, but I just don't see how it can fit.
#2 suggests NIE, which gives rise to several mopey name possibilities. An Elvish gift is ANNA or something like it, from Annatar. Hence, NIENNA.

Oh, hah. Nothing to do with any of that (except in the sense that this person is distantly related to them... but frankly, it's Middle-earth, isn't everyone?)

Y'know, he always has sounded like a refugee from Narnia. Proof, perhaps, of the old theory that the east-facing Narnia map and the west-facing Middle-earth map are supposed to back onto each other, making 'The Magician's Nephew' the canonical origin of Men in Arda? Further evidence is found in the fact that only a little fiddling lets you line the End of Narnia nicely with the Fall of Numenor and the Change of the World...
Anyway, no, and it's not a hint (or tip) to a gambler.
